8 days since Brostrom procedure with Artleon implant to repair Grade III CFL & ATFL. Had splint removed 2 days ago so I can focus on ROM exercises. Scooter indoors and crutches out but did some walking this afternoon in the boot. 53 y/o Ironman and other endurance race athlete and have goal to begin running at 10 weeks and a possible 1/2 or full marathon in 4 months. I wish everyone a quick and relatively pain free recovery. There will be setbacks and frustrations so don’t get discouraged about the low points and keep your personal goal in mind. God Bless All
I had this same injury and probably the same surgery as you. Is 10 weeks too early to start running? Would you please share your experience and any advice you may have for me? It would be of great help to me. Thanks
@@drejey1931 personally did extensive PT, 3x/week @ 60 min per session, almost immediately post op and we focused on ROM and reduction of swelling. If your PT clinic has an Alter G treadmill you may be able to start there even earlier. My return to running was around the 10 week mark but very limited, ie: 10 minutes total 1 minute jog 1 minute walk 5x thru. Added time each week. Things to be aware of: the fat pads on bottom of feet will be very tender and take some time to acclimate to run sessions, due to tightness of surgical repair you may experience some PTT issues or God forbid, Achilles issues. Be careful to stretch all those areas extensively as Post Tibial Tendonitis is hard to shake. I’m 16 months post op and would say the ankle issues 80%, probably good as it’ll get. No restrictions on my activity just dealing with extra stretching and post competition recovery. All my best
Back on Friday 13 of August 2021, I fell and broke my R ankle in three places and sprained the L ankle. I was in absolutely no pain with the break. The ambulance got me to the hospital and they went to work immediately on the broken ankle. Nobody paid any attention to me saying that my L ankle was in pain as well. I ended up with a plate and 7 screws where the small leg bone connected to the ankle. I have been diabetic for 53 years now. I'm 63. The bone healed on time and is solid now. I had another surgery to remove all the hardware. It was thought there was too much physical interference and it was holding the skin apart over the ankle. With the hardware removed I'm still not healing. I've been using Collagen and other treatments. It's been about 5 months now and I still have an open incision over the ankle. I currently are without that clumsy heavy boot. Ataxia only made it worse when wearing the boot. I would come more near falling if I have the boot on. My L ankle still bothers me and my R ankle has pains if I move it in a way that strains it. I sit here and wonder daily if that incision is ever going to heal. The stiches are buried beneath the skin now. They were not intended to do that. Just a point that being a Type 1 diabetic for many years will affect how well or fast you will heal.
I had foot surgery yesterday. Gastroc lengthened, heel spur debrided and tendon repaired. My podiatrist, Dr Spooner, Tallahassee Fl is remarkable, how bout he called me from his office to check on me and express the importance of instructions. I am obedient....

Hi Ginger. But you'll be fine. When the bone fractures naturally, it will be fine again, just as it was before it happened. The problem is when they saw him to do some bone surgery, just like me. As it is a very strong trauma to saw him, the bone never remains with it before, there is a bone scar and it becomes very weak and starts to give problems afterwards. Too bad I found this out too late and at the time I went to have this surgery and I regretted it, nobody told me about it and even today, I think nobody counts, orthopedists. I will put in the next comment, what happened to me so you can see what happens to those who go through this and me. But cheer up Ginger, take care of your foot, you'll be fine soon. A hug, stay with God and get better for you! I'm going to pray or pray to God that you will get better and be well soon and in the meantime not even see the time go by and have joy even in this difficult time that you are going through now.
