I also cut down my long handle brushes for Plein air (less weight and fit my kit better) and to sharpen them for scratching. I’m happy to see more short handle choices - and a few companies who sharpen or slant the ends to provide a variety of scratching and scoring tools.

How do you make it short tho? I've ordered long handled ones for watercolor but after reading all the comments I think I just made the wrong choice

Ever since I maned up and started using an easel when I paint, love long handles.

A few years ago I bought from Jerry's Artarama a set of beste brushes duo headed. Round and flat on the same handle. Sadly there are not available anymore. Those are my favorite brushes of all time!!! I did get a chance to buy some extra sets . I gave them as gifts . Everyone I gave a set to . Love them also. I use them for water color and acrylic. 🎨 Wish they would bring them back.

I work with acrylics and have always had short handle brushes. It’s been a year now and I’m finally starting to learn a bit more about brush hairs and what they have to offer. I also just got some long handle brushes as a gift (2 filberts, a flat, a round) and couldn’t figure out what are the pros and cons of using it. Your video helped big time so thank you!! I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos. Side note: I laughed super hard when you said “I’d certainly like to think of me as a tool” 😂💙💙🎨🎨

Wish I hadn't already spent my art allowance, would have loved to buy this set.

Thanks, useful -- though I wish I had seen it earlier! I've done some water colors and am about to dip into acrylics (class in a week or two). I took advantage of your '23 Labor Day sale but for the life of me could hardly find any short handled brushes so I got a set of long handle Black swans.

I just started using long handle brushes for my watercolor because of the home setting for my easel, and how challenging its been to use a short handle. And it has made a wooooorld of difference that makes me wish I had used long handle brushes for more than oil and acrylic when i was younger. I now do mixed medium pieces and go between the long handle and the short, bit it is nice to have tools that allow me to more efficiently achieve the results im working towards :)

100% sold on the mimic brushes. I have a couple of the black Swan that I love. A couple of other swan that are just okay. Which is just fine. I have a lot of other brands that are definitely not okay. I haven’t found a decent synthetic hog bristle, but based on my experience with mimic and black swan I’ll be trying out the hog bristle.

Also, I use short and long handle. Interesting using both when it’s not intuitive to do so

I use short handles for watercolor, long for oils, but the one thing I am having trouble finding is a quality long handled, heavier Dagger brush for oils and a quality short handle lighter dagger for watercolors. Ever since I found out about dagger brushes, I rarely use anything else. Does Jerrys carry dagger brushes?

I use a combination of long and short, always have. Just depends on what I'm painting. 99% oil painter.
You really want me to call you 'a tool'? Hahahaha
