  • How to get your dog to come back to you when called is something we talk about often. The remote collar is something that does save dog's lives every single day. Modern E-collar training is dog training for the future, it's the most advanced piece of technology we have in dog training today. Often times the remote collar gets confused with an old school shock collar, the remote collar is much different.

I used to HATE e collars and prongs I used to be one of those people who were uneducated and thought they were just abusive devices. After working with a balanced trainer, learning how to properly use the tools it opened up my dogs world!
I find ecollars especially helpful for me when I want to take my dog on a trail while I'm riding horses. While I'm riding I really can't get to my dog easily, and on trails things always pop up other dogs, people, wildlife, etc. It gives me a peace of mind not having to worry about my dog at all while I'm riding and we all just have fun.

it's just a tool and you can use the vibrate or the loud tone rather than the zap...it's used for hunting dogs who are far away to recall...once that dog locks into something, he will chase, no matter how loud the handler yells recall...

I am blind and have a guide dog. Typically, guide dogs are not allowed off leash in areas that are not fenced, because those of us who are blind cannot see the environment and properly react to where our dogs are going or understand when it is time to recall them. The dogs catch on that we cannot see them and do not always recall reliably. However, after talking with my trainer who moved onto working with Dogs on E collar, I decided to get one and work with my girl! We have conditioned her for a few weeks and she is now to the point where we are just introducing her to new environments with the E collar. It is only used for off leash recall with us, and she is still dragging a long line, but responds completely to the E collar! It’s giving her so much freedom and she absolutely loves to run and play ball at the parks and in big fields! I will be taking her to the beach next week and on some hikes and I am so happy that she finally gets the freedom and downtime that any good working dog deserves! She wears a bell so I can hear where she is at and I know that she will recall to meet whenever I need her.

I have an akita inu with very high prey drive and very stubborn. Because e collars are illegal in my country and considered abusive I didn't want to use one. But then I've seen more and more UA-cam videos about them and I started to wonder if they are really that abusive. I did a lot of research, bought a book and finally got a dogtra arc 800. Because e collars (and many other tools) are banned where I live I couldn't go to a trainer. We started training when my dog was 1,5yo. I introduced her to the e collar for about 2 months, since then she is completely off leash. She ALWAYS listens to me, even if she sees wildlife or other dogs. And our relationship got SO MUCH BETTER! The e collar is still on her for emergencies but I didn't have to use it once since we finished the 2 month introduction and training phase. The e collar changed everything. We both are not frustrated anymore, we are the perfect team and we both enjoy daily hour long walks through the nature. The e collar changed everything to the best possible! Thanks Tom 😊

I’m a 60-year-old woman who rescued 90 pound Dogo Argentine. I struggled to give her the proper amount of running exercise and to control her during stressful walks in our neighborhood. I watched your videos for the E collar and bought one. After training with her the E collar has saved our lives. She is now able to run free on our hikes in the woods and is equally adjusted to neighborhood walks. The E collar gives us the added security we both need.

I got an ecollar for my husky-GSD rescue after he decided that the woods behind my apartment were more interesting than whatever I might have for him. I now use it every day when we go out, and it has been great for both of us. We go out together hiking and I never have to worry about him getting into another hiker's business. Having the remote correction saved him from a questionable snake encounter about a month ago. Now when I pull it out he will push his 'sister' out of the way so he can get his on first. He doesn't get excited for the leash, he get's excited for the ecollar. For both he and his sister it has been a saving grace at the dog park. If there is ever a fight that seems like it might be starting to break out I can call them and if necessary apply a light stim or vibration and they come instantly without needing to be ready to run across the park. Now they are starting to default to me when a kerfuffle breaks out. It is one of the best investments that I have ever made.

I have a 2yr old female husky and even though we live in the country when I let her or if she gets off leash she is gone for hrs. And I am try in to catch her. I finally figured out the more I chase the more she runs. So now I either leave a door open and she comes in or I set in my yard with my back toward her pretending like I'm not paying any attention. She will then come up and lean against me. I feel like I'm a horrible human to keep such a beautiful intelligent dog captive. I love her so so much and I've had her since a day after she turned one and now she listen to me very well unless she's gotten loose in the house she does tricks and obeys me. I do not want to keep this dog locked up she is so remarkable. I guess I just want to know that I'm not making her life miserable.

I taught my dog recall from a very young age and would occasionally tune it up with the vibrate or beep function when we are at our HUGE off leash park. He has been good for over a year running back to me when I say "touch." He is now 2 and recently a light went off and he bolted to chase a noisy truck that was driving up the middle of our park going way too fast. It was out of the blue with no warning and his life was in danger. I didn't play around with vibrate or beep, I shocked him as I called his name because he was running about 30 mph on the trucks tail. He stopped on a dime, turned to find me and came running back....nuff said! It's my fault and I now pay extra attention and watch for vehicles coming on the street and I get him leashed up when one is 1000 ft away before he notices it! I don't want this to happen again but will be prepared.

I got an E-collar after my lab ran away into someone’s backyard I was a little sacred at first but then I found ur videos and that’s what made me think food is not the only thing I have to rely on for training my dog. She’s a lab so food works yes, but not for long she lost interest in it. Walking became something I didn’t look forward too which is sad. So that’s why I got an E-collar it took weeks of training slowly for her and me to get used too. And now she has a recall which still impresses me to this day and can completely be off leash to have her fun. Now when she see the E-collar she aways thinks we’re going some where fun and that’s good😊. I really thank 🙏 u for posting theses videos it’s taught me so much.😁

@@meeshell2267 I can tell you that my Shepard mix took to it right away, and understood quickly what it meant - it was an invisible leash. I had a story similar to the above where my dog went after a buzzard that swooped down and taunted him. He ended up clearing a 5ft fence and was in someone's back yard before I could even think about catching up to him. I decided right then and there, I had to do something immediately. I did some research and came across Tom's videos on the 280C. I went on Amazon and had it the same day. After binging several hours of videos and tutorials, I felt confident to put it on and begin the process - after trying it on myself, of course... it is true, on the setting 6 or 7 I use for training, I couldn't even feel it! After just one 15 minute session, his on leash was so much better than the prong alone I had been using. After a few sessions on-leash, I took him off-leash, and couldn't believe the difference. On a few occasions I have had to use the boost button (which adds 10 to the setting, and I tried up to 20 on myself and it in no way hurts) when a squirrel or other dog got his focus. He immediately responded and turned on a dime and came right back to me. He is excited to put it on, because he knows we are going to have fun!

I wish with all my heart that you were on this side of the world, since I have an Everest-like task ahead of me with my 2 rescues (that I kind of inherited). Between the 2 of them, I think I’m faced with almost every problem in the book and I type this while trying to heal from an injury that happened on a walk...if you can call what we do ‘walking’. @@rauldelgadillo8447 It will work. Just not in two weeks. Time is ultimately the difference between balanced an unbalanced. @@rauldelgadillo8447 Even with the two year approach you should see progress regularly in some aspect of the training(leash manners, off leash, tricks, socialization, etc). If no progress is being seen clearly you need to change tactics, but generally speaking in all of his series I've watched there is progress.
Is it a lot less progress than a balanced trainer could get in the same amount of time? Definitely.

I really enjoy you videos I am currently working towards getting a e collar, I am wanting to get the 280c. I have also used your videos to help me with teaching my first personal dog also she is my service dog. She was crazy before I was turned to your channel and noticed that how my parents taught me to train her was with no structure. My parents have 2 dogs that are 25 pounds that will walk away and 80% of the time they come when called but they just let them come back at there own pace and not straight away. I didn’t want that for my girl.
Both there dogs are not as active as my dog (just turned 2, 65 pound, working line black field lab). My parents also use strictly positive training to where I am balanced. They don’t like that I use a prong and I showed them your video on prong collars. Even though they still don’t like that I do use tools to correct her, and tell me about it every time they can, they have backed off a bit on trying to tell me how to raise my dog. They are now starting to understand why I use tools and why I’m very structured with her and don’t talk to her excessively and give her so many boundaries. Including on my semi truck she has boundaries and stays on a 10 ft leash, while I’m driving, so that if I need to I can correct her.

Hi Tom, thank you so much for your enlightening videos! In my country, there's a lot of skepticism and misunderstanding about e-collars, making your content incredibly valuable. Thanks to your insights, I've successfully trained my border collie using an e-collar as a communication tool, not punishment. She gets visibly excited and happy every time I bring out the collar-she sniffs it, loves wearing it, and it seems to make her feel secure and safe. It's as if she knows that with it on, she won't lose track of me. Your videos have not only helped us but also challenged common misconceptions about using technology in training. Thank you for reaching audiences worldwide and help us having the same access to the information in order to contribute changing perspectives!

I love everything you said on this video but especially want to highlight two things you said that dog owners HAVE TO ALWAYS CONSIDER: First, you said dogs are animals and have animals instincts and tendencies. That is so important to remind yourself and I have to constantly. We start to see our dogs as our kids, almost as humans to be honest. Until that moment "dog" takes over and they bolt after an animal or a person on a skateboard, etc. The second was towards the middle when you mention always having your dog wear the collar because of the things YOU cannot control, I.e. other people! I've had more near incidents in my years of dog ownership because of other people and other dogs than my dogs doing something to someone or something else. It's unfortunate but so many people (especially kids) are just awful and have no sense of what is going on around them and put me and my dogs in contentious situations. Great video!
