Coming soon! We need to get some flight time with this, but of course it's really heating up in AZ so we'll only be flying early morning or end of the day. Hopefully soon I'll be able to do a test mapping flight.
Thanks Rich for these ongoing educational videos! I'm in the commercial roofing business and getting into 3d mapping with Map Pilot Pro. I'm looking for a viewer / reader good for obtaining measurements that others can easily use like clients or our own estimators. I know you've mentioned Sketchfab in your videos. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!
I'm not sure what the best display option would be for you. I use WebODM and Metashape to render models and maps. I use Sketchfab to share the 3D models with clients. But when it comes to the kind of measurements you probably want for your work, you might be looking at something like Drone Deploy or Pix4D.
Thanks the video - for the reason reasons you have talked about (camera/video settings) I will probably buy in time both the M3E RTK primarily for survey work (replacing Phantoms) and the M3Pro for stills/video work. DJI have made us have to purchase multiple drones unless we move upto the Matrice. I prefer the Mavic series for many jobs due to the portability.
Glad the video was helpful. I really feel like DJI is trying to make us purchase 2 drones at this point. Once I get some real video testing with the M3E I'll be sure to share my findings with everyone.
I agree Rich. I use my mavic 3 e for photogrammetry but decided to do some progression videos. I’m not impressed. I wanted to try and make the video quality better but that’s hard when there are no freakin options. I don’t want to post edit.
I knew that I wouldn't have many options with the video. But I didn't realize the options were that slim. I've notice that in DJIs training video they kind of skip over a real discussion on video.
I have actually been delayed on the class, and will be back to work on it next week. I have several "beta testers" going through the class for me, and so far very positive feedback. I'll post on UA-cam when it's ready to roll. With the latest firmware update several menus have been changed or consolidated, so I'm having to re-record a few sessions. Today we'll be out doing a few videos on the mapping functions in a complicated area (rapid elevation changes, cliffs, and trees).
Hey Rich! I'm curious, did you really not know about the video restrictions until you received the drone? Or was this part of the review "theatre" for the review? I do a lot of research on products before buy them and never considered posting research but if you really didn't know, I could see that research being useful.
There is a bit of theatre going on regarding the video. But also there were some surprises. I was aware that the video settings were slim, but not that slim. When researching and watching other videos not everything gets covered. I watched DJI's full series on the M3E, and they had a few items in their Pilot 2 app that I did not have. Reviews / tutorials can become "dated" quickly with updates from DJI. For instance, there's a "save" button when setting up maps and waypoint missions shown in the DJI tutorial series that is not on my controller. I checked with one of my Patrons who has a M3E as well, and he didn't have that particular button either. The lack of Bracketing was also a surprise. I research a lot before buying new gear. But as I said, old tutorials may have things that don't exist now. So in the end, I still need to be prepared for "surprises." One thing I do know. Every 3rd party app vendor has specifically said you must Force Quit the DJI Pilot 2 app prior to launching their 3rd party apps. (so I'll believe them on that).
@@AZ-Drone Thanks for the reply! DJI is quickly making it's way on my do not buy list. I am returning my M3PCine. I believe they are intentionally software feature blocking us. Long Live the P4P!
LOL! Long live the P4P indeed! My hope is they'll have a firmware update that could benefit the video side of the M3E. We'll just have to see. And once again, Long Live the P4P
DJI is trying to clearly define between the Cinematic Mavic 3 range and Enterprise. Basically if you want to shoot pretty videos and photos buy a Mavic. If you want to map / thermal etc. buy an Enterprise. The latest Mavic 3 range will never have SDK allowing third party applications as thé Enterprise drones will never have thé photographic functionality of the latest Mavic range. I can’t wait for the day when a say Mavic 3 Airframe has an interchangeable gimbal and can switch from a cinematic drone to an Enterprise…..but I think that’s way down the road when DJI has some actual competition in the market place.
@@craig_Dronepilotsqld We totally need more competition in the marketplace! I've been watching for years now and wondering who will bring something to market.
Been using the M3E for commercial use for a couple months, never needed it for video. just use it for mapping and modeling and it is AWESOME! DON'T format the SD card in the drone, you'll get errors when you go to read it in the computer. Format the card on a computer and you won't have any issues. Using DroneLink with no issues other than not being able to zoom in Dronelink. Can zoom it in DJI Fly the switch and the zoom is then set for DroneLink.
Theyre def making to make people by multiple drones , not one features everything .even if you go up to the m30t .... you need the m3e to make best possoble maps
DJI is starting to annoy its customers. Limit the features on its enterprise drone forcing you to buy a second drone. And their geo-fence is ridiculous. As a pilot, i dont have to contact Cesena in order to fly in certain airspace, so why do i have to contact DJI to do the same?
Totally agree! I've been watching the evolution of the Mavic 3 series, and held off on buying anything for quite a while. I feel like my Mavic 2 Pros are "swiss army knives" that offer a lot of feature control. The M3E will be used for an upcoming project, and I have a feeling the Mavic 2's will be coming along as well. I'd really like to be able to accomplish tasks with 1 platform. But I feel like DJI wants me to buy other drones for other purposes. Frustrating. Oh and the geo referencing and unlocks can become tedious.
@@AZ-Drone i would love to be able to afford a Matrice or Inspire but for someone trying to start out in this business, its not an option. Something smaller is better suited. but surprise, my M3C wont cut it. need a M3E but apparently that doesn't completely cut it. so it would appear you have to purchase even more from DJI. I partially understand their stance but its starting to annoy the DJI buying crowd.
Great review! I was curious on the video quality as well. Hoping to see your post processing soon!

It really does feel like they want me to have the Mavic 3E and a Mavic 3 Pro. Fortunately we still have our Mavic 2s at hand.
@AZ-Drone rich I don't even think m3e will shoot in 16:9 I could be wrong but I couldn't switch it earlier I gotta read the manual
