Great review.I have one question, is there any way in this free version to calculate say how many cubic meters a given pile of soil is? Thanks in advance
This took all my worries out of mapping and mapping and processing for the first time. This was an incredible and easy to understand tutorial not to mention how user-friendly Maps Made Easy is to use. Liked, subscribed and shared.

Thx for your video. I would like to use this for landscaping on medium size properties. Which would be the most economic drone you would recomend for this?
Great video! I'm using the DJI Mini 3 Pro (March 2024). I attempted to use Maps Made Easy but I need a photo from my starting point (ground level) so I'm going to try again tomorrow. Any other suggestions or tips I should be aware of?
Hi - let us know how your second flight went. No other specific suggestions right now, just to use their flight planner, input the results into MME and see what comes of it. For photogrammetry in general take a look at my, and other UA-camrs, other videos for suggestions and inspiration. All the best!
Hi - thanks for watching! Yes it can. The free version has some limitations, but you should be able to make the measurements you have asked about. If you want to get more serious and perform more detailed survey flights, it might be necessary to look at more advanced software, but this is a good start!
Audio geek here.. Consider dropping a "Compression" effect onto your audio track to bring up the lows and dump the highs.. Other than that - thank you.

Hey! Sorry about the Mini 2, but I’m reading good things about the 3. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll do my best to improve on the audio side of things. Appreciate the helpful feedback.
@@geospatialtips I would just recommend using a slight compression + limiter, then crank volume out a little.. it will help avoiding the volume disparities.

Hi @Alex-bv5se and @8CHULEE Thanks for watching and for your comments. It is in fact free up until the 1 Gigapixel limit per project. The software allows for a total of 3 of these projects to be run per any 24 hour period, after which you can run another 3 projects so long as they fall below the limits set. I have no affiliation or tie to the software, developers or manufacturers at all, but merely presented a way for those who wish to try drone mapping for free. If you have a chance, give it a go. I thought it was a pretty nifty way of introducing their tools and if it works for a user, then encouraging them to take it to the next step if they have larger projects.
Very new to drone photogrammetry and as soon as I can I plan on giving this software a try. 2 questions though. You mentioned a link in the description that would go into more detail about map pilot - I don't see it. Is there a free version of global mapper. It is quite expensive and a huge investment for someone just starting out and learning. A stipped version that did only a few features like contour lines and stuff would be fine. Thanks.
Hi - good point, thanks. Here it is: dronesmadeeasy.com/map-pilot Global mapper allows you to perform certain functions for free, but no free version. You can achieve many of the same functions using QGIS, which is free and open source.
Hi - thanks for watching! If you are just wanting to try it out, why not go for one of DJI's smaller drones such as the 'Mini' or slightly bigger, 'Air'. But, make sure you choose those that are supported on this list: support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us/articles/205704366-Supported-Hardware Later on, if you get into the business, you could then move on to some of their Enterprise drones and still use the Air as a backup.
Hi - yes, you have the option to download the Geotiff as well as the JPG image. Both file formats should be viewable on your phone and other devices. The JPG image would be a smaller file size.
Hi - I am not sure to be honest, I was just demonstrating how useful it can be. Here is a link to their support page, hopefully it'll help you: support.dronesmadeeasy.com/hc/en-us
Hi George - due to an SDK delay from DJI, there is no automated capture software yet (that I know of) but seems like some developers are now in beta testing. However, if you fly and capture images manually, then yes you can definitely use the data from the Mavic 3 and produce some good photogrammetric/mapping results. Only the flying and data capture aspect is the issue, the rest can certainly be done.
@@geospatialtipsany further info on the beta testing? Can you provide a developer name or somewhere I can look? DJI will never release the rtk. Great video!
Hi - you would want to export the mosaic as a KML/KMZ file that will open in Google Earth for you. You may need to make use of another piece of software to convert the mosaic into the KML format from the TIF or JPEG format. QGIS can be used to achieve this for free.
Hi - no, just DJI and Autel devices unfortunately for the Piloting module. However, if you just need to do the photogrammetry portion, you can certainly use Maps Made Easy.

Hi, thanks for watching. So far as I know QGIS has no photogrammetric processing model. I know ESRI has one and it can be attached to ArcGIS, but is is incredibly expensive. Here I wanted to highlight a free photogrammetric processing service and the output of that could be put into QGIS or ArcGIS for additional mapping and data processing, but the data needs to be created first.

Hi - I used Copterus for this particular flight. But the product Maps Made Easy offers is called Map Pilot Pro and there is a free version you could use. DroneLink, Pix4D, UGCS etc. are all viable options. It doesn't matter what you use for capture, you could make use of any of their output images in Maps Made Easy.
@@geospatialtips Yah looks like my hangup is using the smart and rc2 controllers with the built in screen. I’m going to have to buy a plain controller to use a phone for other apps.
You are correct that 60/30 is all that is required for photogrammetric processing and this setting can be adjusted in the software. However, for better visual 3D modelling results, a higher percentage overlap will be needed.
Yes, unfortunately this is the case. However, it seems that it's due to a DJI restriction, rather than a processing software limitation. Maybe one day they'll open it up...
DON"T RENAME YOUR IMAGES ALL AT ONCE!!!! I select all my images and give them the project name. When windows does this it numbers them ( name (1), name (2), name (3)...). This software can't tell the difference in the name. I have 445 images that I can't use without renaming them. That SUCKS!
Hi - this might be due to the brackets. I know it works with numbers, so this is the only reason I can think of. You can use Bulk Rename Utility, which is free, to remove all of those brackets in a few simple clicks and then you should be back on track.
Correct. And for other Mini 3s, the limit is that DJI themselves is not releasing the SDK to developers to work with. Not sure why, but this is why they cannot be supported by any third party.

Hi - thanks for the honest and valuable feedback. You're not the first to have said this. It's an odd one because although I know the audio isn't good, I don't have the "effect" you're mentioning. However, UA-cam doesn't allow any audio edits after the video is already up and live and so I can't change it unfortunately. I have been working to improve the audio on the latest videos and I hope you will see the improvement too!
