This young man's mother kept her cool and as I listen to her speak you can tell that she's a fantastic mother who has brought her son very well. Both of them were very calm and respectful. I think that it's terrible the way this young man was treated. I think that the officers got off much better than they should have. My take on it is this ..... once you are terminated and no longer a police officer that should follow them everywhere, so they can't ever do this again. They also should have to go to anger management classes, so that their anger can never hurt anyone else.

City will just raise taxes next year to cover the legal fees. Current system needs to be changed where every officer has their own insurance which covers legal fees for their malpractice. This would force officers to think twice before they choose to abuse their power.
I'd recommend that they not only sue those officers in a civil suit, but also sue the media outlets for reporting slanderous, false allegations, like saying drugs were involved.

I saw the video of this young gentleman being assaulted by those criminals on Facebook, but I couldn't watch it. I did however reposted it in hopes of making sure enough people see it thereby forcing the district attorney's office to file charges. It's dusgusting and heartbreaking what was recorded that day. The way our police officers conduct themselves and the lack of simple accountability is shameful and disgusting. The supreme court has even ruled police can perform unlawful acts if they believe their actions are lawful, regardless of the actual law. Officers aren't required to actually know the laws they enforce, just as long as they claim ignorance and believe what they are doing is lawful. Citizens are told "ignorance of the law is no excuse" but police officers operate above the law and aren't even required to know the laws they enforce. Why are police officers the only ones who can get away with unlawful acts? Supreme court has also ruled that police aren't there to protect you. If they're not there to protect you, aren't held accountable for their actions, and operate above the law, who are these people we call police officers? It's hard to even call them a gang since gang's typically don't get away with unlawful acts or murder. My husband & I were on our way from Cali to North Carolina. We had cruise control so we wouldn't get stopped by the HWY patrol for going over the speed limit. Low & behold, we were stopped by the HWY patrol. He approached the passenger side of the car & said, "You didn't do anything wrong." Yet my husband had to show his driver's license, proof of registration & insurance. He even asked my husband where we were going. Now if we weren't doing anything wrong, why stop us & ask for everything under the sun? .
It's time to start requiring a college degree in order to be a cop. A lot of cops gave high school diplomas or ged's, and cannot conduct themselves professionally.
There should be MUCH more education in the academy. Math and English won't help much with a cops ability to interact properly with the public. Psychological training is needed not to mention better psychological screening.

Most never been in a real fight and are truly scared and would reach for a taser, baton, asp or gun depending on the situation. College has nothing to do with this. And Gcpd doesn't teach them to kick people in the head or to punch a man with his hands up in between a door jam. Some individuals are just fools and most likely gotten away with it for a long time. Generally supervisors, judges and the solicitor does not know what occurred until the officer(s) involved writes the report. So now you understand how Sgt. only got caught when the tape came out, he neglected to put that in his incident report.

I’m so sorry you had to suffer this attack young man! I hope everyone starts filming the ones who are supposed to protect and serve, so it will possibly deter any future attacks, and expose any that may happen again! Like in the case of George Floyd, we are so fortunate that the entire murder was carried out in front of someone’s camera.

City will just raise taxes next year to cover the legal fees. Current system needs to be changed where every officer has their own insurance which covers legal fees for their malpractice. This would force officers to think twice before they choose to abuse their power.
I'd recommend that they not only sue those officers in a civil suit, but also sue the media outlets for reporting slanderous, false allegations, like saying drugs were involved.

I saw the video of this young gentleman being assaulted by those criminals on Facebook, but I couldn't watch it. I did however reposted it in hopes of making sure enough people see it thereby forcing the district attorney's office to file charges. It's dusgusting and heartbreaking what was recorded that day. We cannot allow criminals with a badge to get away with murdering our sons and daughters. The way our police officers conduct themselves and the lack of simple accountability is shameful and disgusting.
The supreme court has even ruled police can perform unlawful acts if they believe their actions are lawful, regardless of the actual law. Officers aren't required to actually know the laws they enforce, just as long as they claim ignorance and believe what they are doing is lawful. Citizens are told "ignorance of the law is no excuse" but police officers operate above the law and aren't even required to know the laws they enforce. They carry around deadly weapons, are quick to escalate situations, and end up killing people with no reprecussions.
Being fired isn't a reasonable penalty for breaking the law or violating a person's rights. How long till we can simply hold police accountable for their actions? Why are police officers the only ones who can get away with unlawful acts?
Supreme court has also ruled that police aren't there to protect you. If they're not there to protect you, aren't held accountable for their actions, and operate above the law, who are these people we call police officers?
It's hard to even call them a gang since gang's typically don't get away with unlawful acts or murder. Throw on a costume that includes a badge and a gun and you have free reign to do whatever you want. Worst case scenario, you get fired... Whoopsy

My husband & I were on our way from Cali to North Carolina. We had cruise control so we wouldn't get stopped by the HWY patrol for going over the speed limit. Low & behold, we were stopped by the HWY patrol. He approached the passenger side of the car & said, "You didn't do anything wrong." Yet my husband had to show his driver's license, proof of registration & insurance. He even asked my husband where we were going. Now if we weren't doing anything wrong, why stop us & ask for everything under the sun? .
It's time to start requiring a college degree in order to be a cop. A lot of cops gave high school diplomas or ged's, and cannot conduct themselves professionally.
There should be MUCH more education in the academy. Math and English won't help much with a cops ability to interact properly with the public. Psychological training is needed not to mention better psychological screening.

Al Rodriguez I know dozens of officers that went through the academy in Gcpd. Book sense does not mean you have common sense all it means is an increase in your pay check. Most never been in a real fight and are truly scared and would reach for a taser, baton, asp or gun depending on the situation. College has nothing to do with this. And Gcpd doesn't teach them to kick people in the head or to punch a man with his hands up in between a door jam. Some individuals are just fools and most likely gotten away with it for a long time. Generally supervisors, judges and the solicitor does not know what occurred until the officer(s) involved writes the report. So now you understand how Sgt. only got caught when the tape came out, he neglected to put that in his incident report.
