- Death Road and Salar de Uyuni. Two stunning places in Bolivia. This is the third episode of our adventure in South America. The bikes: 2015 BMW R1200GS and 2018 R1200GS Adventure.
The Death Road is a touristic attraction today - when we got there, we saw a lot of teenagers riding down on it and having some beers at the end. If paying attention, there's nothing scary on the Bolivian Death Road. But a few decades ago it wasn't just a tourist thing. It was a connecting road between La Paz and the Yungas, there were cars and buses over there, and a lot of people died.
Salar de Uyuni - i'll never forget it. We've been lucky enough to be there in late January, when the salt desert is flooded - the view is fantastic. It's just riding on the clouds. Yeah, riding, not walking because we entered with our bikes over there. It's a bit dangerous for the electronics, I know, but it's worth it!
After Chile and Peru, Bolivia is the third country we visit on our R1200GS bikes in the South American Adventure. The next destination: Argentina.

Lovely video. Just these two places are on the top of my to-ride list and you've motivated me to get my finger out. I've riden several times in the Himalayas and I must say that I agree with you that the Road of Death doesn't 'look' that dangerous in comparison.

I'm an old fart and have ridden a number of world highways, roads, streets, and goat paths. I have noticed almost every country has it's own "Death Highway." I'm currently in Thailand and their "Death Highway" is highway 105 south from Mae Seriang to Mae Sot. Good riding and happy experiences from an old goat!
