I have to say, her speech was one for the record books, and Drescher is right. These bottom-feeding CEOs can give themselves $100+ million dollar paydays, but want to, as my aunt would say, poor mouth about losing money. There is no feasible reason they can't pay people what they're worth except their GREED. Not every actor or writer is making millions of dollars, and as Drescher said, most people don't even have $500 in their bank accounts for emergencies. There's long been this misconception that everyone who works in Hollywood is ballin' and they're not, and it should be abundantly clear that not only in Hollywood should the rank and file bring these corporate big-wigs to their knees, but all across this country. It's time for the working class American people to reclaim our power across the board. We've been controlled way too long by these corporate thieves.

This is the nuance that is lost in the comments. I’m seeing so many say we don’t need actors but this is a microcosm of a growing issue, corporations and the politicians that enable this behavior, are siphoning everything away from what makes this country great: the people that contribute to it and live within it. They are 100% making quarterly profit margins a main priority over the well-being of their employees and citizens.

@patriciamcclanahan2114 I think most actors that are involved in this contract don't really worry financially, week to week or month to month about how to pay their bills. To be fair, some people in this industry seem to be working for low wages, compared to what retail workers get. So, I get in some way, what they are wanting to fix. At the same time, if A and B-listers are worried about losing money, then shame on them for living a lifestyle that is above their means! Shame on them for not saving for a rainy day!

Only a small number of actors make the kind of living you're speaking of. Artists generally are low-income and have at least one part-time or full-time job.

You are talking about a very small portion of actors. Most are struggling to get by with the current payment models. The strike is more for the lesser known actors who work hard only to get stiffed for the amount of work they put in
I do feel bad for the 1,000’s of people who work on the set and get paid like the majority of the working class. Without a person filming for them they are nothing too! Sad to bring up but it does affect all things in the end- who you vote for plays a tremendous role.

The people who are having trouble making ends meet from residuals & royalties etc are the vast majority of actors. They appear in small roles. Character’s that move the plot along 10-15 mins in a movie . Non speaking roles. Extras.

People comment about how this is famous actors whining but it is about "Newsman 1" and "Mary the store clerk" who are the actors who fill projects with characters that support the progress of the story. This same imbalance is happening in healthcare; the big conglomerate health care entities are making buckets and paying the muckety mucks the big dollars while nurses, lab techs and others are holding facilities together by the skin of their teeth. A lot of you need to remember that most actors do not make very much money and often have 2 or 3 "real" jobs in addition to acting. This strike is a very good thing.
