That's because one hundred and sixty thousand Hollywood actors have gone on strike in the film industry's biggest shutdown for 60 years.
Major US productions have been brought to a halt - joining writers on picket lines set up around the headquarters of Netflix, Warner Brothers and Disney.
They're calling for more pay from streaming services as well as assurances their work won't be taken over by artificial intelligence.

Hollywood actors: if we don't strike, our livelihood is threaten by technology!
Fast food and store cashiers: welcome to the party!
Most of the actors in SAG make barely more than fast food and store cashiers. They’ve definitely already been in the party
Great news, would love to see the end of Hollywood.
No but I believe it's turning out that way
@@mikegarrens5286 It is, but I wouldn't like to see the end of film though.
Shutting down Hollywood is an excellent idea! Hope it stays that way! Go read a book or ride your bike!
And your advice to the hundreds of thousands of people who will be out of work is to what exactly?
It would be like everyone else when times change......Get a job.
@@elcristoph7380learn to code
If the whole industry went away, it would not matter.
AI will be writing the stuff anyway next year, and I’m sure there are some starving waiters willing to do a movie for 5k instead of 15 million
Let’s see if you think the same when your industry comes next
@@mrex8458 I’m not worried.
@@kevinb9830Movies lately are not exactly the epitome of quality. Can't imagine AI making it much worse
@@kevinb9830 Depends. Imagine if you train it, on good movies only.
Really speaks volumes for the state of things when millionaires start siding with the proletariat and join industrial action. Enough of the greedy executive class profiteering on other's labour, across all sectors.
These “millionaires” are out of a job if the writers and “proletariat” are not making movies either
They're on their own side. They do not care about the general public. They complain about being underpaid while making millions.
Who actually cares?
There's no more good movies Nowadays, they are all rubbish 😂 older actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Silvester Stallone, Bruce Lee, etc are irreplaceable actors. All modern movies are not entertaining at all.
As far as I can tell the writers and actors of Hollywood have made absolute garbage the past decade. Terrible remakes/superhero shlock that is poorly updated "for modern audiences". And now they want MORE money?! Its the only industry where failing upward is the norm... As a tradesman I can tell you without hesitation if I don't perform with quality and efficiency I will NOT be getting more money.
But writers don't want to live in the real world and expect unions to bail them out for their mistakes
Yea the last few years has only been about Remakes or live actions. We want something original again
More money? They barely get any money at all. Streaming has changed the industry and writers nowadays get residual pays that are like 10 cents or so. So because there are bad writers out there, the good ones should suffer too? What a load of nonsense!
@@Cinedragon based on most American media flopping or not being good yes they should. Also, if these good writers were as good as you say, they could sell their stuff to other countries or make books and sell them on Amazon. Let's face it most writers are not as good as you claim. if they were, their writing would make them independently wealthy like J.K. Rowling. You don't see her in the writer's strike.
@@adoptedbyangelinajolieThat’s the fault of the producers and studios that the writers and actors are striking against. The actors and writers don’t want to be pushing out shitty remakes, the studios are making them
They would never work again if I was in charge
More of an opera fan then?
Who cares!!
Awesome. Actors can pretend to be outraged. Writers can make up stories about it.
Win/Win.
I guess the movie studios figured that their 'creative accounting' and sometimes cruel contracts/ NDA's would proceed flawlessy into this new era of streaming. They were wrong, preparation is everything and they were completely ill prepared for this new platform of entertainment. Example; Disney is thinking about selling their cable channels, a panic decision in my opinion. The disparities by default between the wages of (male) actors and the rest of the film crew are excruciating. I understand the writers who fight for royalty payments and sometimes have months between jobs.
I had an experience with Motion Capture and voice acting and have to say even though gaming industry is a colossus these days, voice over actors and mo cap performers are not fully considered 'equal' talent as regular actors. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in the new Resident Evil games :)
@@AnxMa I support ALL labor strikes without question.
Have for over 50 years. 🏴
actually, actors SHOULD be outraged because with no writers, they’re jobs are also at stake
A Hollywood blockbuster movie in the making . Who then will write the script ?
@@addamr2052 Awesome! We movie goers can protest watching the movie till they meet our demands!!
Who cares.
The writers have been writing rubbish for nearly 20 years!
In case you’re implying they shouldn’t be paid for their work: ua-cam.com/video/tlj-5kPl6fU/v-deo.html
Movies have been pretty bad overall but I thought it was because of the writers
It didn’t even occur to me that studios have less money to give with their movies flopping hard this summer
@@paul7TMwhen you watch the opening credits here's what you see.. universal picture's presents a blah blah blah production of a blah blah blah studio in conjunction with blah and of a film created by blah blah blah. Then 10 minutes later it starts
No the writers are under control by the studios
@@victorseger6044 Netflix and Amazon don’t have an issue with that. It’s mostly big studio movies that do that and not really an issue in my opinion
Studio preferred giving a hefty sum to Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford for indiana jones 5 (which no one really asked for), than taking a chance with many smaller projects and new blood
End superhero films. They’re over glorified kids rubbish, their time is over. Let’s have original creative content. And written by people not AI.
WHO CARES!?!? THEY GET PAID MILLIONS, ILL WATCH MORE UA-cam AND GIVE MY MONEY TO REAL PEOPLE.
Idiot. Acting like people shouldn't follow their passion and be treated fairly 😂
Monks protesting Gutenberg press, colorised
That’s actually a decent analogy
You beat me in posting this comment! I was thinking the same thing. 😆
Oh no! How will audiences be fed a nonstop stream of unimaginative remakes that focus more on the "the message" than quality entertainment? Who will buy all of the drugs and trafficked children?
End of their BS. Get a job like the rest of us.
This could go on for 3 years and I wouldn't know other than through the news
Well you would when eventually the movies/shows in the can run out and nothing new releases
@@JoelMcVeagh Everything good has already been made.
@@JoelMcVeaghso in a hundred years? Lol so much stuff out there we would be fine
Who cares? There are hundreds, probably thousands of excellent grade films out there. Just watch those classic motion pictures (including anime/animated and international).
I'd think if you can appreciate the archive of old great old movies, it would be concerning that there are so few great current movies, and that the writing on the wall says there will soon be none. If actors are overpaid it's because they are few, working on unoriginal superhero movies which get all the investment as no risks are taken. The crew that work on them can then go and work on independent movies for next to no pay. It trickles down.
@@brunolondinese5857 You don't see many portrait painters in the world because the camera changed that industry. Same with film. We can't and we shouldn't stop progress. AI is better in writing nowadays, so why have screenwriters? And actors are just overpaid privileged entertainers.

What has Fran has been doing in 30 years though?wtf?
Living off residuals and expenses
Who cares? Hollywood could stop making sitcoms and movies, and most of us wouldn't miss it. The viewers are the ones who should be striking.
Oh noes! No more stupid remakes, sequels, and over budget garbage movies! How will we ever survive?! LOL
Oh for Pete’s sakes! Let’s be real. Actors and actresses are hardly paid minimum wage. Oh tough if they don’t get residuals. Regular people who lose their jobs don’t get any money. TV coming to a standstill? We’ll see repeats. Acting has always been an iffy business. You may get a part you may not. The world keeps spinning.
I'd be striking too if I could only afford five gold toilet seats.
The writers and actors can scream and cry all they want. The industry has changed and not in their favour and they are going to lose in the end. Life isn't always fair.
😂so you want them to give up and not fight? Seems like you personally dont do anything or never stand up for yourself so you want everyone to be as sad as you😂

What do you call it when you want them all to lose?
Sensible?

Actors go on strike, and nobody notices.
So long as Korea doesnt go on strike, foreign movies have been dominanting over hollywood movies. Who eveb noticed Hollywood was on strike? 😅
I hope ai gets better to replace them

I mean going by the state of movies now how isn't ai better already 😂
Those B actors😢😮
I was told by my dentist that I was no longer their patient. Was offered to go private with the same dental practice. I turned down their offer. I am still searching for a new dental practice to register with.
The dudes baffled why Indiana Jones didn't make as much as they expected. Maybe they should consider the audience don't want to pay 30 bucks to get a ticket and popcorn for a 2 hour lecture on wokeness.
In what way was that film a lecture on wokeness?
Not even that. It's just gærbage. Who tf watches Indiana jones nowadays? We're not in the 80's anymore
When in doubt blame "woke" even though you have no idea what it means 😐
It is very expensive to go to a movie. I remember the times when I went on dates and the man could easily afford dinner and a movie with popcorn and a drink. Those days are gone.
You can't beat human creativity
it feels like they will be the first to be replaced by AI
They will, this is an AI takeover, it's 2023, at this point anything is possible with a coded machine that can obtain knowledge faster than the human brain maybe even Cryptology
Lol and I’m here for it
@@orsitheawesomewhy? Only idiots think how you do honestly
All creatives are screwed. I'm in a vaguely creative role and I know I'm Fd in the A.

Great news 🥳 we can concentrate on more important things like exposing evil/lies 🥳🕊
Isn’t this a bit like Bud Light going on strike in protest at people stopping buying its ‘Beer’? 😂😂😂
All they know what to write is the F word , noooo money for them
The writers say they will not give up and keep on striking no matter how long it takes and they have a strike fund to sustain them during the strike. Let’s see if the strike fund will last for the next 10 years if the studios refuse to bargain.
Time to change to a.i.😂
This is a general trend, not just in the entertainment industry. Greedy corporations trying to extract as much value as possible and keeping salaries low as possible.
Not exactly, companies want to make money, people want high pay.. strikes and negotiations are part of the process...
@@elcristoph7380The difference is that normal workers need the wage to survive.
Dump Netflix. It's total shite.
Why do we need writers all they do is create sequels and remakes. Hollywood is dead !! they have no fresh ideas anymore. Now you got Mel Gibson about to drop the hammer on hollyweird
I lost my job today building the sets over this strike
Good on them let Hollywood pay a fair price for writers
Look on the bright side, your still going to watch reruns.
Lucky you're not a writer.
Good. Hope the places in catering college don’t fill up too quickly.
Every industry deals with the same issue we can't stop technology
Does it mean no more movies or tv shows?
Anything that has not already been filmed can not start filming until the Actors aren't on strike
Unfortunately some of the actors resemble AI !
Stay on strike for a few years if you like lol
We all have plenty of other things we can do.
Your bubble needed bursting.
Hopefully AI won’t have annoying political or hypercritical environmental views in its acceptance speeches 😂
I'm an actor producer and writer and I live in a different country and everyone deserves a fair wage for their day's pay
Well no big loss there then
All the big actors will still get royalties, it wont affect them one iota.
Cinemas can just repeat and rerun films next year. Most of Hollywood and streaming is just the same stuff again and again anyway.
And you start off with a plug for a film... wow!
Meh ...
I don't think anyone really cares what these people do anymore...
Times are tough for everyone these guys don't know how good they got it afraid they will lose thier LAVISH life style
Poor actors where are they gonna get their millions of dollars
RIP Hollywoke
just look at how streaming has killed musicians... actors you are next!
thank goodness, the world would be a better place sans Hollyweird Inc.
Good, go on strike & stay there. Will happily not sit though any movie again. Haven't for over 3 years. Go away Hollywood
That'd be sad if the background actors were replaced with AI. No thank you to that. Creepy. Don't do that.
Looks like they'll be stepping up the service then.
wHAT else did Simon Pegg say? he is apparently close friends with Tom Cruise.
What a tragedy..
So the thousands of people that work in this industry that won’t get a pay rise out of this will do what? Just hang around? Good job there’s not a cost of living crisis or anything.
that's what the strike is for, to make sore more $$ gets to the workers in the industry,
@@elcristoph7380 The workers are not striking, but we are all out of work nonetheless. We’ll get no financial reward from the strikes, and if it goes on too long many future projects that we might have worked on will be cancelled as well. I’ve worked in this industry for over twenty five years and seen it before. The workers lose - immediately when shows are paused and long term with the schedule bump they cause.

the withdrawing of labor to sort out questions about min contract standards and AI is a good thing..
Damn that entertainment lawyer at 4:11 is getting high on the Hollywood supply. Her face can hardly move with so much filler and botox in it, like she's wearing a mask from Mission Impossible that's been torn off half way.
Hilarious!
Yes, I think there's been something put in there.
It means nothing to be an actor nowadays, everybody can be on the screen , all you have to do is pull up you phone 🤳 and be seen by millions , it's meaningless, It doesn't have that GLAMOUR and LUXURIOUS UNTOUCHABLE dream it had in past, where a few selected ones were the "once upon a time" GODS of the big green SCREEN .
Now , to add insult to injuries your face can be swapped with somebody else just for the sake of wanting to knowing what it would be like to have an other actors playing this particular film 🎥 which is catapulting the cinema industry into a whole other realm of dystopia
I support the streaming platforms and the production studios. They either provide a service or employment, which anyone can terminate at any time if they don't like it.

That’s the point idiot. Most actors are waking up to realise they can’t be paid any less. Hence the strike. The problem with actors has nothing to do with AI and everything to do with residuals and making enough to pay for health insurance. Matt Damon et al are striking in solidarity to those who don’t make as much, which is the pint of a union.

It's a chicken and egg situation. Big names=box office sales, so they take the hit. It doesn't seem to matter if the quality is dreadful...as long as they have their star it will sell seats, which becomes the benchmark.
