Just installed a couple new TPMS sensors on mine. I knew about this procedure, but I forgot which order to program it in. Just taught me the light thing. Thank you!
Lol ! Thanks man 👍. Yep, I do like black vehicles for sure and these two have been pretty good ones overall. They get a bit grumpy from time to time (thus several videos on the channel for them, lol), but nothing so far that a DIY’er can’t handle with a few tools and some spare time. All the best ! Steve
Hey man ! Yes, I agree completely, lol. GM did do a good job of adding in things to help folks. They still even have the routine built in un-flood the motor due to the notoriously leaky fuel injectors from the mid ‘80’s, lol ! Although injectors don’t leak much anymore thanks to improved designs, it’s is quite helpful for a stuck fuel tank purge valve as this causes a similar condition. Probably hardly anyone even knows it anymore, but to turn off the injectors to clear the motor, pressing the gas pedal to the floor while cranking the motor shuts down the injectors (and spark I think) to just pull air in…then when the pedal is released while still cranking, the injectors and spark turn back on and it will start up. Probably way too much reply to your comment, but it is nice that GM makes things easier for owners, lol. All the best ! Steve
Thanks man. Very helpful. I hate taking my car to any shop. But these days with needing to program every part that is replaced on the car, I'm gonna have to either start using the dealerships, or suck it up and figure out what tool I need to buy to be able to program these parts that are coded to the vehicle.
Thanks 👍. Yep, seems the car companies want to make it much more difficult for DIY’ers to work on them, but fortunately aftermarket companies make some scanners that will allow re-coding for basic items. I’m used to working on my BMWs which require software to do almost anything (even replacing the battery as they have to be registered, lol ! ) so I’m kind of used to it, but it is annoying to have to take one to a specialist or dealer just to have some simple thing replaced for sure. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve
I have a 2013 cadillac escalade esv luxury I Rotated my tires today I put it in learning mode. It did everything it supposed to do. when I start letting air out of the driver's side right front tire got down to 25 pounds and I the horn blow. For to go the next tire
Hey brother, Steve. I have 2018 Escalade. I replaced all my sensor with the correct one, even though I follow all the steps, it didn’t work for me. I also used resetting device but no result whatsoever. am I doing anything wrong? Or is there any other process?
Hey ! Seems odd that they wouldn’t even reset using a reseting device. Not sure what would be the next steps as I’ve never encountered them not wanting to reset at all.
Hello, GM did a pretty good job of keeping things consistent across models so it might work as well for the newer Escalades (someone commented that it works on the CTS). Easy way to see would be to push the remote buttons at the same time and if it pops up the tire learning notification on the dash then it should do it. You can always just turn the vehicle back off then lock and unlock the doors and it should take it back out of learning mode if you just wanted to see. All the best ! Steve
Hello, spraying some liquid soap (like kitchen dish soap) mixed with water on the valve stems once you have filled the tires to the correct pressure will let you know if the valve stem seal is leaking. If it starts to make big bubbles appear after you spray it on the valve stem, then you have a bad stem seal and the stem seal will need to be replaced. Anytime you put air into a tire, there’s always a chance that the stem seal will not seal back and then the tire will loose it’s air pressure making you think you have a puncture in the tire. Hope this helps and all the best ! Steve
Hello, I think as long as the sensor is an OE replacement part for the vehicle, it should register with the vehicle since the communication frequency would be the correct one. I am not 100% sure since I’ve not had to replace any of mine, but for sure a GM dealer would be able to confirm that they would. Hope this helps a little and all the best! Steve
@@alexandercohen7277 Hey man ! Great to know and glad it coded to the vehicle 👍. Thanks for letting me know as now I know for sure in case other folks ask. All the best ! Steve
Hello, if you mark which tire pressure sensor is in each rim (front left, front right for example) and then put them back the same in the new rims, it probably won’t need relearning. Probably easier just to swap them to the new rims without keeping up with where they were and just doing the relearn since it’s not very difficult to do.
@@StevesDIYs nice I swapped my 22s to 17s with fatter tires for a smoother ride but forgot to have the tire sensors put in so I will have to order a new set to put in the 17s?
@litosway1077 hey again, yes, you’ll need to order a new set if you didn’t keep the old ones and have them installed. Then you’ll need to do the tire learn for the new sensors 👍
Hello, not sure which year they started using TPMS, but an easy way to tell would be to just hold the lock and unlock buttons like I did in the video. If it shows it on the dash or beeps the horn and lights the corner light then it should do it. You can always just turn the key back off and it takes it out if program mode
Hello, I’m not sure which years they had this easy setup feature, but it’s pretty consistent for GM. It’s easy to tell though…just do like the video and hold the two buttons on the fob, if it honks the horn and then shows it’s in the learn mode then the vehicle still has this feature. Hope this helps and all the best ! Steve
Hello, when you scroll through the information using the vehicle info button on the dash that displays information in the small screen in the center of the dash cluster, does it say that the tire pressure is low maybe? Also, does it show the tire pressure for each tire? It may be that it didn’t register one of the tire’s sensors so you would need to repeat the process again.
@@StevesDIYs It doesn't say monitor tire pressure system anymore it's saying check left rear tire & right front tire pressure but all tires is 35psi specs
@staceyjones2168 Ah, it may have not calibrated to the sensor at the correct pressure for those possibly. Good that it is showing pressure on the display for all four tires though as it is at least picking up the sensors. If it was me, I would try the procedure again for all four tires to see if it will calibrate to the correct pressure. If, after recalibration, it still shows that these need air, but you have confirmed with a tire pressure gage that they are at 35 psi, I would put 40 psi in them (the side of the tire tells you the max pressure you can put in them so being below that should be fine for a test). Then I would see if that turned the check tire pressure indicator off. If it does, then the sensor may not be calibrating correctly or is no longer accurate (or if you have changed the sensors, then they may not be the correct ones).
Good to hear and glad you got it figured out 👍. Sounds like the sensor is just off a bit and not reading the exact pressure, but does confirm that everything is working. All the best ! Steve
Actually, the spare tire on mine doesn’t have a tire pressure monitor in it (not sure if that’s standard from the factory or not) so it wouldn’t give a code or be part of the reset process on this one.
Hello, yes, for directional tires and most modern tires, it’s important that the tire rotates the same direction as it did before rotating the tires 👍. This means that if was on the left of the vehicle it needs to stay on the left…right stays on the right. This way the tires still turn in the same direction both before and after rotating the tires. Actually, in thinking about the phrase “tire rotation”, it probably should be changed now since they are no longer rotated…more like swapped front to rear, lol ! All the best ! Steve
Lol, yep, the little nub works pretty good too if they made it long enough…about the same as the gage stick. The ones that have a little short nub have annoyed me in the past so I just use the gage stick as it always works lol. All the best ! Steve
