I absolutely love that the music starts out using Harumi's lietmotif until Lloyd convinces himself that Avatar Harumi isn't real, after which Unagami's lietmotif is used. It must help that Unagami and Harumi's themes are so melodically similar.
So here's an interesting thing I've been thinking about: A lot of people on the interwebs debate wether Avatar!Harumi is actually the real Harumi brought back from the dead, an NPC, or a real player using Harumi as their avatar. The answer to this debate comes in the weirdest of places: The Ninjago Character Encyclopedia. The entry on Avatar!Harumi states that she was created from Lloyd's memories. So she's essentially a manifestation not of how Harumi was, but of how Lloyd specifically _remembers_ Harumi being. Which, come to think of it, is an explanation for a lot of weird things about her character. Avatarumi (which is what imma call her for the rest of this comment) is a way better fighter than her flesh and blood counterpart was. This is probably because every fight Lloyd had with her was a struggle. Not actually because she was stronger, but because he was always off his game and/or at a disadvantage for a couple of reasons. But her being a way better fighter than him is how the game represents this. Even weirder than how strong she is, is the way she behaves during the battle. She flips back and forth between her sweet, innocent persona, and being completely merciless and cold way, _way_ more often than her actual self ever did. The real Harumi tried tricking Lloyd by appearing more innocent a couple times per season. This AI knockoff does it three times in the span of two minutes. This is because, undoubtedly, Lloyd's memory is an exaggeration. I can say this with certainty because _anyone's_ memory is like this naturally. We all remember good things as better and bad things as worse, we all exaggerate things in our heads at least a little bit. And lastly, there's her dialogue near the start of the fight. She says that Lloyd left her behind and couldn't save her. And that's a collection of lines that have always bugged me, from the moment I saw this scene. Because it's something no one would say. Not any IRL person, not Unagami, not the real Harumi. There's no way anyone would blame Lloyd for her death, he's just not responsible for what happened in the slightest. But he probably blames _himself_ on some level, and if Avatarumi is a manifestation of his thoughts, then she would, too. Thank you for reading my frickin' four-paragraph essay about why this scene is actually brilliant and not crap like I initially thought it was, your time is much appreciated.
You make good points and I agree with you. It’d be scary if Avatarumi were to be the Harumi in crystallized. To have a representation of a character who is basically merciless with no actual background, motive, or any way to negotiate would be very bad news, especially if her bad sides were exaggerated.
the only thing that doesn't make sense to me in this explaination is that Avatarumi doesn't know the answer to Lloyd's question at the end. If she's a representation from Lloyd's memories she should know that they went to feed the poor in their first date, since lloyd didn't forget this. The rest of the theory is great though !
@@conflictbrooks well I still like the theory either way ! It does make it a more interesting fight and gives much more meaning to the music And it could always be something about Unagami taking Harumi as she is, checking very quickly through the pages to check « how she usually acts according to Lloyd » and then taking control of her and completely F up the questioning at the end cause he didn’t study enough !
Ninjago Writer 1: Should we make lloyd the main character? Ninjago Writer 2: Yeah but make him traumatized more and more with double the amount of pain.
All of Harumi's soundtracks are *KILL-ER AMAZING!!!* Which is somewhat fitting as she has attempted to kill Lloyd at least 4/5 times (twice from attempting to drown him, twice from attempting to slash/stab him in the chest and once from him nearly getting eaten alive by piranhas). *And* the avatar version of her did actually kill him in Prime Empire (though her avatar version of her did die as well in the process). Plus she was the cause for Hutchins and her adoptive parents deaths. Also let's not forget about how many citizens would've died when she and Emperor Garmadon took over and ruled Ninjago city.
My god what an amazing track. I absolutely love this. I really like the intense harumi theme followed by the techno arcade music making it seem like a simulation. Probably my favorite ninjago soundtrack followed by Lloyd vs garmadon season 8
I don’t know if this is just me but If you listen with headphones, in the beginning you can feel some of the music moving left to right inside your headphones don’t know if it’s just me or what
