This is the climactic music played in episode 83 of Ninjago, "True Potential". The first piece, "This Doesn't End Now", plays when Lloyd skydives and drives off to face his father, who was resurrected as Lord Garmadon. The second piece, "Garmadon's True Potential", plays when Lord Garmadon fights and brutally defeats Lloyd in Kryptarium Prison. Both tracks are reprised numerous times throughout season nine. I combined both tracks and dubbed it "Lloyd vs Garmadon Reborn" so it's easier for people to find. At over five minutes long, "Garmadon's True Potential" is one of the longest Ninjago tracks released so far. For copyright reasons, over half the video contains stills from the scene while the rest contains clips from it. I uploaded the music from the Serpentine War flashback last September, and it was taken down a week later for copyright reasons - so I had to change things up here. As always, I don't own the material featured in this video, and it's solely here for entertainment purposes.
Analysis: When I first saw this scene, its music stood out to me immediately! Jay and Michael brought in some great new themes, like the Sons of Garmadon theme (a sped-up version of the Lord Garmadon theme, which you can hear at 3:06). The SoG theme pops up numerous times, notably at 3:30 and 5:48. There are also references to the overture at 1:01 and 4:52, and some nice musical connections too - the drums at 5:49 played in "Cursing Chen's Army", before Garmadon is banished to the Cursed Realm. Most of all, there are some fantastic renditions of the Green Ninja theme (which you can hear at 0:31) and Garmadon's main theme, which is very prominent throughout this track; most notably at 0:44, 1:43, 3:39, 5:25 and 6:05. A stellar vocal rendition of his theme is heard at 7:14, and a shorter flute/strings rendition wraps up the piece at 7:58. It's an amazing track, and it was great to hear it again throughout season nine.
Enjoy! Feel free to comment, like and subscribe for more.
I do not own the footage featured in this video. It is here solely for entertainment purposes and to go side-by-side with the original music, and it is owned by The LEGO Group and any of its original owners.

Hope everyone enjoyed Crystalized! Watched the final episodes today - what a journey, and what a pleasure seeing it from beginning to end. There's always a need for a Ninja! What did you think of Crystalized? *Spoilers are welcome!*
I felt like the buildup was really good, and Garmadon got a lot of good development. He's almost like his S1-2 self now who clearly did NOT want to be evil and cared about his family. But I do think that the storyline was kind of rushed at the end. That and, they didn't play the Overture at the end, so it didn't really feel like a proper ending. It felt like an ending to the S11-16 chapter of Ninjago, but March of the Oni felt more like a proper ending since they had callback after callback
@@rickyk4583 Yeah good points man! Also felt the ending was kinda rushed, last few episodes definitely felt a bit crammed. And I also wish they ended it with the Overture, Sally’s song didn’t really fit with the ending for me. The Overture IS Ninjago.
@@LordStarscream100 it indeed felt rushed. I think Overture needed to have been played, and if they really wanted it to feel like the end of Ninjago, they should've brought more allies to the Ninja's aid. Yang and his students, the Skeleton Army, Cloud Kingdom, and Dragon Hunters plus the Dragons themselves should have all been there since the Ninja have helped all of them in one way or another. They could've built up the Overlord vs Lloyd battle more, and I think Lloyd should have fought with the Oni form in totality, and that helps him unlock a dark golden power. It would've been a perfect foil to the way Season 2 ended.
@@rickyk4583 Yup spot on, everyone coming together in the final battle felt restricted to the Wildbrain era. At the least we should’ve seen the Dragon Hunters and all the Serpentine. And a bit of a nitpick but I wish the returning characters got some dialogue, having voiceless cameos felt awkward.
The Overlord/Lloyd final battle was cool but yeah I agree it wasn’t set up well. I wasn’t a fan of Lloyd/Garmadon’s arc as it felt redundant of season 10 - Garmadon tries bettering himself, and Lloyd forgets who his father was in seasons 2-4. That’s ridiculous.
Lloyd won’t use his Oni side to defeat The Overlord, yet the whole season tries building up to that payoff, which never happens outside of his brief Oni form. We didn’t need Lloyd to avoid his darker side altogether - to me a better payoff would be him learning to conquer and control that darker power, to permanently defeat The Overlord and embrace being a Garmadon in the process.
@@LordStarscream100 that would have been really cool!
Voicless cameos felt really weird, and yet with the way the season was going I fully expected it.
I agree that the Lloyd/Garmadon arc wasn't great.
TL:DR Lloyd remembered who he was in seasons 3-4 throughout the Oni Trilogy, hence why he kept saying "this isn't you!" and "you could change" because he knew Garmadon was previously capable of that. He once pointed out a photo of Garmadon when he was a Sensei/Master to him on the bounty too. It was ridiculous that Crystalized Lloyd hates him when he KNEW that he didn't really have a choice in the sense of he was brought back by Harumi as an Oni, AND according to the Oni Trilogy logic, they would've invaded anyway and he was basically the only thing that prevented their invasion from happening any sooner than March of the Oni, maybe Mystake as well tho. So Oni Garmadon was probably necessary to save Ninjago, just not in the way Harumi thought.
I agree that a better payoff would have been Lloyd embracing his dark side and becoming the Son of Garmadon. Because the whole thing with his lineage is that it makes sense that only he could be the Green Ninja, because of how much power the FSM had. It would only make sense that to conclude his arc, he gets to that level and embrace it.
Remember when Lloyd used to be a trouble-making little brat and an antagonist that wanted to be evil like his papa?
Maan that feels like so long ago....
I know!!! I can hardy belive that the Lloyd in season 1 is the same Lloyd we have now. Out of all the characters, Lloyd has undoubtedly gone through the most development.
@@thedorkknight9684 now he's leading the Ninja and destroying evil forces

If we remember back in Season 1, Kai locked out everyone from a room in the Bounty to face Garmadon in hopes of unlocking his true potential, and it failed. Seven seasons later, Lloyd locks the team inside the Bounty to confront his father alone, only to fuel Garmadon’s true potential…
That’s a great point
If I had a nickle for each time a ninja locked out the team to fight Garmadon, I would have two nickles, which is weird that happened twice
Lloyd learns from the best💀
Some may have not noticed, but Lloyd basically committed the same mistake as Wu when he fought Acronix. Going alond was his mistake
He needs the high ground
It is in our DNA. We always try to do anything alone, but we need to be a family at the end of the day.
Not to mention Lloyd is doing the same thing Cole, Jay and Kai by ignoring Lloyd when Ronin and Dareth told them the vermillion warriors are stealing metal
*alone
@@montgomerygarmadon4688 garmadon you got destroyed by the overlord and lloyd and harumi did nothing ngl☠️
The ending of the episode struck me. The moment Lloyd said "Father..." it was the moment that everyone knew that this is not Lloyd's dad anymore. He is gone.
Yeah it was sad
Lloyd: i dind't come to fight you
Lloyd: my father is somewhere in here
Lloyd: i'd saved you once
Lloyd: i'll saved you again
Garmadon: there is nothing left to save
😫😫😫😥😥😥
There is something left to save. Garmadon is just corrupted with evil. He tried to be happy once with Lloyd when they were fighting the Onis
No, there isn’t, and it’s been confirmed that Garmadon’s good form will never return. I say that not to crush your hopes, but rather to tell you what’s received confirmation.

I’ve played many roles, wore many masks. Father, Husband, Brother, Teacher! But, Only ONE was summoned back! DESTROYER!
Horrifying line!
The thing that bothers me is that every one hated season 8 because of their designs and I can see why people are upset and I respect that but let’s appreciate how great this season was this season brought some of the best lego ninjago sound tracks and the season took an extremely dark turn which we haven’t really seen before and even the suits look great
Totally agree! While I know LEGO made the design changes to bring in new fans of the movie (although how many new fans it created is another question), I don't think it took away from the show at all. Many people seemed to judge the season off of that. Sons of Garmadon is among my three favorite seasons.
The designs really appeal to me for some reason.
at first I hated the new designs, simply because of nostalgia for the old ones but I grew to like these more. Also Lloyd getting a new voice was a great idea in my opinion, shows how he aged.
It grew on me
@@gideono.s3459 Lloyd's new voice was important for SoG, Hunted and MoTo. I wouldn't have been able to take certain scenes seriously with Jillian Michaels (like Lloyd finding out Harumi is the quiet one, or Lloyd confronting Garmadon at Kryptarium)
We need an official releases for the awesomeness that is the Season 8 soundtrack!!!
Jay and Michael are currently busy scoring other projects, but they recently told me that's on their agenda. :D
@@LordStarscream100 Well, they haven't released much. We need hunted soundtracks too.
Well personally I'm kinda happy with this and the Lloyd and mr e's first encounter (season 8 intro) themes for now
Oh shit, you again. From ninjago overture piano and ninjago overture
hey man i know u from somewhere
This fight is easily one of the best ones ninjago had in all time, the intensity, the movements, the dramatic touch, the flashing aura of garmadon and lloyd's element, and the drama, a feeling of a final boss
People: season 8, 9 and 10 are the worst seasons of ninjago
Fights scenes, dramatic scenes, soundtracks, storyline: *allow us to introduce ourselves*
8 and 9 are some of my favorite seasons. March of the Oni is kind of a weak conclusion to the two, but I still love 8 and 9 on their own.
There is no way people have watched seasons 8 and 9 and thought ''wow it's so bad''. The visuals, the soundtracks, the storyline, the battle scenes, the overall darkness of this season is just AMAZING. And it's also less cheesy and childish than the other seasons (except maybe seasons 5, 6 and 7). There is no way someone genuinely hates those two seasons. I don't want to believe it. Those two seasons literally felt like a movie, and were almost perfect. Those are my two favourite seasons.
Season 10 was meh, but I loved season 8 and 9.
The Oni Trilogy wasn't my favorite, but that's just because I'm shamelessly biased towards Garmadad. The effects? Spectacular! The music? Absolute slaps, every last track! The tone of the story? A bit darker than I was used to from Ninjago, but still amazing! The new characters introduced in both realms? Excellently-written!
The plot point where Garmadon is essentially resurrected as a soulless husk, used as a weapon, and manipulated to disown the one (1) person he cared for above all else before dying, the one (1) person who could get him to break through the Overlord's influence way back in season 2? And then to turn that care onto Harumi, the one who *did* all that to him??? And THEN to just. walk off into the sunset, *never to be seen again?????*
I have Very Strong Feelings about this, to say the least. THE NINJAGO WRITERS ARE *COWARDS* FOR TAKING AWAY GARMADAD, (YOU CAN'T) CHANGE MY MIND
@@RoseVerdict OMG SAAAAME, So that's the reason to why I don't like the seasons with emp Garm in them :/ But I cannot deny that they have amazing potential and that the music and fighting scenes are phenomenal. But I just love Garmadad too much, so I can't watch the season cause it literally hurts my soul :( (and btw I'm doing a rewriting of season 8,9 and 10 to please my inner Garmastan xD it's still gonna be hella sad, but in the end Garmadad comes back :3 so if you're interested I can send you the link when it's done! I am looking for fellow Garmastans to help me with the story line tho, if you're intrested )
Did anybody else get chills when garmadon said, "THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO SAVE!!!"
That’s too scary
bro if Cortana said that to chief that would've made halo 5 guardians story a lot darker
Ninjago Season 8 Sons of Garmadon > Halo 5 Guardians

@@msheat8376 its hereeee pretty much think so
I miss the version of Garmadon when he was rid of the evil inside of him after being possessed by the Overlord. He was so cool and wise. Also, I liked his old version when he was evil because despite him being evil after the Great Devourer bit him as a kid, he still loved his son and his wife.
S1-2 Garmadon would not have done anything he did in this episode. He wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if he did
"Destruction comes from the eternal struggle between light and dark. I will destroy the balance. There will be peace in the dark."
That was the Crystal King right?
@@The_Awesome_Channel Indeed.
5:55 probably one of the most epic parts of this piece in my opinion. Sounds like it uses a bit of Garmadon’s sacrifice from Season 4
That part is probably peak ninjago compared to anything else we've seen so far.
We see Lloyd willing to do something (maybe trying to reason with daddy) but then he just lost hope and started fighting for real accompained with that beautiful materpiece music.
1:58 Love that callback to season 2.
they also had a season 1 reference when Lloyd locks the door on everyone. I think Lloyd locking the door and Cole breaking the door down with his rock hands was a reference to when in season 1 Kai did a 1v1 or Garmadon and he did the same thing to his team
which?
This soundtrack defines true Ninjago

Marcela Maria Marcinova Yup.

Ok so I just wanted to say that THIS WAS THE BEST FIGHT SCENE, SOUNDTRACK AND INTESITY IN ALL OF NINJAGO. MICHAEL KRAMER AND JAY VINCENT HAVE REALLY OUT DONE THEMSELVES! !!!!!!! GO NINJA GOOOOOOOOO! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Agreed completely Moses! This music brings out the best of Ninjago. For me this is definitely one of the best fights in the series, not to mention one of its most mature scenes overall.
LordStarscream100 I know right? ! I loved this scene so much that I made a stop motion video for it. It's pretty good for a mediocre
It is. When I first watched it I was shaking of how it ends because of the intensity and I'm shaking now just of the music
5:55 I always imagine Garmadons good side cheering lloyd on at this moment, telling him not to give up
5:48 - 5:55 is just the drums from Cursing Chen's Army (indicating something huge is gonna happen) and the SoG theme representing the intensity wow
Great ear Marcela! Jay and Michael likely added those to make a connection between Garmadon’s sacrifice and his rebirth. That part‘s a great example of their attention to music detail/motifs.

I love that even though Garmadon is in his Oni form which is commonly believed to lack many of the memories and morality of his previous self, he still seems to love Lloyd in some compacity even this early in his new strictly Oni form. At 7:25, Garmadon for split second seems to be mournful and regretful for what he just did to his son but then immediately buries those emotions.

This is probably the five hundredth or so time I’ve listened to this piece, it’s so well-done. All the themes and motifs woven into it, the emotion, the intensity, the pure EPICNESS. I had this playing over speakers the other day and several people asked me what movie it was from lol
I really wish we’d get an official release of some more soundtrack pieces soon. I’m especially irritated since Lego’s 10th anniversary stuff has a lot we were missing before, but not in their entireties, so I’m left with parts of tracks and parts I want that were excluded and it’s kind of frustrating. But hey, I’ll take what I can get, and it’s amazing they released so much at all!
That, and I greatly desire the score from Nya merging with the sea.
I love how parts of sensei garmadon's theme can be heard during the fight scene
While this may disappoint some, I will not be taking requests for music. I've released a handful of Ninjago tracks over the last three years. I don't do it often as I like to make each release special. We're all anticipating music like Harumi's theme and more, but those will likely be for Jay and Michael to release. Thank you for understanding, and enjoy!

To me, what most people call "Garmadon's Theme" I see as not only his theme, but the theme of the relationship between him and Lloyd. A lot of times I'll just call it the "Separation theme" because (almost) every time it's played it seems Lloyd and his father are split even farther apart.
