This is a very interesting training philosophy. It seems to be based on the idea that these dogs are instinctively pack animals. The traditional Inuit philosophy, which is based on thousands of years of experience in conditions that demand peak performance by the dogs, however, is more analogous to human military training. The Inuit would never suggest to the dogs that they are their equals. Instead, they emphasize that they are on a higher hierarchical level. They feed and care for their dogs, but they do not hesitate to use pain as a disciplinary tool, for example.
@@northerncowpoke7020 Neat! My hunt got cut short by unseasonably warm weather. We had to mush dogs out through bank to bank overflow. No caribou in the freezer! Heck!
It can get expensive. So we have ways of cutting costs. We buy in bulk when we buy dry food. Also, I have a video about fishing on the Yukon that shows how we can get some food, like wild Alaskan salmon, for free!
There's always jobs! Come on up! I think it's the sort of place you have to figure out once you're here. Fairbanks is my favorite place, but it's not for everyone.
1. Talk to your vet. 2. I follow the bag recommendations pretty strictly when they're a puppy. My vets, who have worked with hundreds of sled dogs, say that the dog will grow into its full size sooner or later. The danger is feeding too much too fast: bones and joints can grow faster than they should, resulting in later joint issues. Have fun!
You got it! It's already out there: I think it's called "Do the Puppies Pull?" As you'll see, I'm no pro. The dogs WANT to pull; I just have to get out of their way.
Chris ok thank you! I’m trying to find a breeder around me that has dogs that have in there blood but I can’t find any. Any breed recommendations if I wanna start?
@@bellawil4698 Hmm. Mutts. Alaskan huskies are mostly mutts, and mutts are my favorite. There are always dogs to be found for free if you're just looking for a pet! Around here, there are always good sled dogs for free as well: maybe they just didn't fit in the team- that's why I gave Radar to my friend BJ. I would warn most people away from huskies unless they are very eager to get a lot of exercise: these dogs can be terrors if they don't get to run. This is why we always get two puppies: they can take some of their energy out on each other! Good luck! Hope you find a good match!
@@bellawil4698 There is a story that someone tried to do the Iditarod with poodles once. Maybe dogs just like to pull? Pugs are probably a poor choice. But huskies love it. I'm afraid I don't know.
I dunno. They seem to end up doing what I hope they do! If you watch the series, you'll see I often don't quite know what I'm doing, but the dogs show me what will work.
Hi, I hope you are all doing great 😊. Please take care over there. We are doing okay here in New Zealand. My retriever doesn't like the cold, no where near as cold as you are. Thanks
Hello NZ! I kind of wish I were there! Nice thing about dogsledding is that I don't have to interact with a bunch of people. Or any people! Hope your pup is enjoying the start of summer down there on the other side of the world.
Great video"s man, i live with just one siberian husky and a saarloos wolfdog in the netherlands and they both like to exercise with me on the inline skates and jorring the bike when the temperature is low enough, they like or little dutch seaclimate country 🇳🇱 I love your philosofy about bonding with the dogs , because if the bonding is good you can do much with them 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 I also put videos on my channel because i love my two rascals 💪🏻🐺🖤
Huskies, the "I know how to get over every fence" gene comes with their mother's milk. What a great life you live in Alaska
Lol 2:01 you were telling Verb to sit and behind you the Noun sat on command 😂
Here after watching TOGO! Thank you for giving us information about sled dogs. Learning alot
We’ve been drawn by the same heart 😂
The big siblings looking while you’re cradling verb is amazing
I really enjoyed that. Great job on the edit and music.
Thanks! UAF taught me something!
Sled floofers the most cutest of floofs.
If it was easy everybody would be doing it.The challenge is worth the reward.
Sleeping with the puppies is a really (really) cool idea. ❄️👍🥶😎

What a great life!
My great grandfather was a dog musher, he hunted caribou and travel with the sled dogs,
That's exactly my plan for this Thursday! Where was he?
@@puncAF where was he from or where he hunts? well He’s from northern Saskatchewan and we hunt caribou in nwt (north west territories)

How do manage their food..is this very expenssive??

I want a place just like yours in alask, any suggestions?

This is so cool it reminds me of a movie. Could u do a more in depth video taht just focuses on how to train your dog to pull?
