Anybody remember "Finn"? _Loved_ that series - Lovecraftian monsters, magic and badassery.
Not gonna lie, a 2000 AD Universe would be really dope. ESPECIALLY if they adapt the stories as they are.

@@karlydoc The second one, albeit a reimagining, was solid. Urban was born to play Old Stoney Face, and Thirlby's Anderson was pitch perfect in the setting. The real crime was that it wasn't part of a trilogy.

This is why I'm so excited about an Unreal engine project. If this works, it opens things up to tiny studios. We could see some amazing stories, but sacrifice a bit of CGI quality. I'll choose stories every time
I’ve been waiting my whole bloody childhood, adulthood to see this up on the big screen! I hope they use animation to their advantage and really stick to the comic - comic-book frames come to life would be great. Really looking forward to this and so glad there’s now some news of everyone’s Nu Earth Rogue Trooper - Southers yeah!!!
200AD is ripe for a cinematic universe!
As you said its a shame its not a live action movie, Dredd was so good its criminal how we never got a follow up or a series.
Imagine a live action Slaine movie that did justice to the comic and books! Amazon or Netflix could have a fantastic property
here if they dared to adapt it well.
How would you feel about Neil Blommkamp (District 9/Chappie)? I feel like he could mess it up royally or make a really fresh Sci-fi Action flick/series.
This Rogue Trooper movie sounds exciting. David Bowie's son directing. Sean Bean. Hayley Atwell. Asa Butterfield. Reece Shearsmith. Aneurin Barnard. Man! This could be a great movie.

0:27 I can't remember them saying it would be animated then proceeds to read that Duncan Jones said "way way back" that his next project would be an animated version of Rogue Trooper.
This will work perfectly in Animation, you would be talking Avatar size budgets for live action. The cast gives me great confidence.

I really hope they go with a strong anti-war message - war is profit sentiment - as a kid Rogue was my first introduction to anti-War voice - until I saw the anti-war movie greats. Duncan must deliver more than a war film - hope the message of endless war for profit endures - I’m gunning for this!
Truly a shame it's not live action, I guess live action was deemed too expensive for a comic book character that is not well known.

I played the game on ps2 and is still one of my favourite games I’ve ever played
15 years ago, a property like Guardians of the Galaxy (even though it had the Marvel brand name behind it) was a considerable risk in Hollywood. Rebellion just needs to take a shot and stop dragging their feet, people want cool stuff, what's old is new to the next generation, especially if they've been sitting on cool properties that haven't had the chance to breathe.

Zealots who don't really know anything about... anything, really. Don't know the proper guidelines on how to make something decent. Can't write fiction, because they don't know how to write real-life, because they want to lie about their lives in the first place. When there's no honesty, there is no virtue. When there is no virtue, there is nothing to make that is remotely upheld on the backbone of integrity and decency. It becomes patronizing fluff, full of hot air that signifies nothing. Relying only on the emotion, with no greater understanding of the self.

I think it make sense that It's gonna be animated as the main character is a blue person with glowing eyes and most of the set pieces would probably have to be CGI'ed in anyways.
Guardians of the Galaxy to name one that works where most of the scenery is cgi, in fact in some places it's all cgi.

Are you freaking serious! About time. They had better not Disney it up. Fingers crossed for its success and a possible Strontium Dog follow up. 2000ad was my comic of choice back in the 70s and 80s. It is what led me into comics and games.
2000 AD and Michael Moorcock are two of my favourite things and in my youth all I wanted was movies and games. The last 15 or so years had beaten any desire for them out of me. At least we got Dredd, Urban was a God in that movie.
I imagine Hayley Atwell will be Venus Bluegenes.
I also seem to remember in the late 80s - early 90s talk of Rogue Trooper movie with Rutger Hauer or Van Damme in the role. Or was that just my chums and I being 2000ad nerds and casting a movie over beers?
Thank you for the update Mr. H. I remember when this was announced. It did seem like a long time in production. I'm looking forward to this movie.
I remember thinking back when the first Judge Dredd movie was made, that they should make a Rogue Trooper movie. The listed cast looks _brilliant_ 🤞

I can see Atwell as the voice of Venus Bluegenes and Matt Berry and Germaine Clement as two of the chips he carries !

Rogue Trooper was a fav of mine when I read 2000AD in the 80's . Didn't know a film was a thing- interesting.
I loved the rogue trooper video game from back in the day. It was kind of a AA gem. I had no idea they were making a movie!!!
I'm glad it's animated it'll allow them to be more faithful and not look as weird as it would in live action.
I forgot about Duncan Jones he is a good director but lately with his work has been a mix bag due to Warcraft movie good to see him return

That being said, the cast being females heavy might suggest that they're going to rush the expanded Venus storyline in way too soon in the name of pandering and the whole project might well be shafted from a real fan's perspective.
2000ad has gone STAGGERINGLY woke. i tried to get back into it recently and by god both story and art there now are appalling. incredible considering the MASTERS that worked there in the past.

@@HERITAGE12 I tried dipping my toe in a couple of years back, and even then it had more heavy panders than a Japanese rainforest. Finally gave in when it became "deviants & criminals aren't the problem, it's the heavy handed authority figures trying to protect the citizens that are to blame!", probably around the same time as Saint Floyd of Fentanyl's mostly peaceful supporters were liberating sporting goods stores.
@@HERITAGE12 Halo Jones was feminist. Slaine was even more feminist. Nemesis the Warlock was anti-fascist and anti-racist, with its big central theme being xenophobia. Rogue Trooper was about how corporations can become monsters and the military industrial complex. Strontium Dog was about class. In fact most of 2000AD has always been what reactionaries have been calling woke since they started throwing the ridiculous term about wholesale. The whole comic was packed with content that used dystopias to show how bad society could become if you let it. 2000AD has always had plenty of left-wing content. You were just too young to notice it at the time.
Aneurin Barnard is a Welsh actor I've followed for a while who's a pretty solid actor. He also played the doctor in the later seasons of Peaky Blinders which some may recognise him from.
Really good supporting cast and I can't believe I haven't heard of Rogue Trooper until now.
Some original characters and stories finally. Look forward to it.
Been excited for this for years now. Kind of happy to hear it is animated. Duncan has definitely never said anything about it being animated.
Just want to add that Aneurin Barnard, Hayley Atwell, and Jack Lowden is a sick casting lineup too.
@@Blisterdude123 yeah, there's a great deal of quality people in this though with it being animated I sometimes wish full time voice actors were given the roles opposed to just getting more standard actors.

I really hope this is good, I loved the comics back in the late 80''s and the game was great too.
The whole concept of trooper is so cool, with his dead comrades being parts of his equipment.

It being animated is slightly weird BUT I reckon this will be a way for them to test the waters for audience demand for potential future 2000AD projects, without expending full-blown levels of £ on feature live-action movies.
Hopefully this means we'll be seeing more 2000AD series/movies in future...... Especially more Dredd 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I'm actually a bit relieved. 2000AD has always resonated with me 'because' of the many and varied talented artists and styles that make up their stories. Sure, you can interpret some into live action, like Dredd, but animation and a distinctive style can say SO much more, sometimes.
I just want one thing on the big screen again from 2000ad the judge... J.D.

Hmm, this has been bubbling away for years, I really was hoping for a live-action version. I guess something is better than nothing though.
I grew up reading Rogue Trooper along with many other characters from the 2000ad universe and really looking forward to this, I think the cast choices are brilliant.
Shame it's not going to be in live action, I've wanted to see a "Rogue Trooper" movie since I started reading 2000AD in the 80's!

I will give them props for this looking, so far, as it should because studios changing things in adaptations is one the biggest problems these days.
And it's a good thing that it's animated. Why can't western comics enjoy the same 1:1 animated adaptations as manga does?

I agree. I'd love to see more films in the style of CG films like Advent Children, Appleseed, Starship Troopers, Resident Evil, Captain Harlock, etc. To do those in live action would probably be too expensive, but the CG route gives them a chance to get made.
It was definitely meant to be live action, but I'm guessing they couldnt raise the budget required for an IP this little known in the US?

Rogue Trooper and Strontium Dog were my two favourite strips.
I think Jones has learned from his experience with the Warcraft movie. I really enjoyed it but it would have been better if it didn't mix live action and CG characters and he'd just made the whole thing CG. I'd far rather have a fully generated CG movie than the live action drek churned out by Disney, filmed in the volume.
I'm really excited to see what indie film makers can do with amazing new tools like UE5. Anything that undermines the monopoly of the big studios is a good thing.
love 2000ad i had it from the first issue and then all the mine comics.. then sadly i had to store them at a friends house as i had to move and that was the last i seen of them.. but i wish it had been a film also.. have a few ideas of who i would loved to have played rogue and his buddies.. but i knew it would never be.. i will still watch and love and enjoy the animated.. and i have to admit i have seen some awesome 2000ad short films fan made on youtube that deserve a film.. and i so wish they would make part 2 of judge Dredd with Anderson.. i would love to see the underworld city when he was chasing the white wearwolf with angerson.. that would rock

Not sure about the 3D cgi animation, I would prefer it be done in the same style as Heavy Metal. I mean they're use unreal engine 5 for the animation, which makes me a bit worried about how it's going to look. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first time that this software is being used for this?

Bit of a disappointment that but I still look forward to seeing it.
As I have restarted my interest in comics, I decided to include some things from 2000AD as well.
Primarily "ABC WARRIORS & Rogue Trooper", some smaller things as well.
But not everything is easy to get, 2000AD is kinda, well, not big, and some comics are sold out, or never released as a TPB in general, so it's a risk to get into this.

Love Rogue Trooper maybe more than Dredd (although the 2012 film restored some hope). Strontium Dog would be good but always looking for a live-action (I'd even accept animated) Halo Jones.
