So much great advice Abby! One thing that surprisingly took me a long time to realize, in my marriage, was that we are on the same team. There is no place for a 'me vs. him' dynamic, and that mind shift has really helped me. Also, I do not go into a potential argument saying "never" and "always", besides likely being untrue, it was puts the other person on the defensive instantly, which is unproductive. You are absolutely right, watching your husband enjoy your children, and enjoying them together is THE MOST special thing! Priceless and irreplaceable!

I would be careful about dating for marriage as a young adult or teenager- I ended up married at 17 as a result of that and it was a terrible idea- my ex husband was abusive, alcoholic and was out with other women. At that age it's far too young to know what you want in a man

I think for the wife of the video gamer husband. I had the same issue, because I was not investing enough time in myself. Maybe you need to get a hobby or make new friends. If you’re together less often then it’ll make the time your together more special and he’ll want to put the games away.
It’s also possible that he is addicted to the games and you need to discuss your concerns with him. If he asks, help him strategize ways to limit playing time. You can also encourage him to spend more time with other less addictive hobbies.
Also I will say, now that we have a baby he has no time for the games anymore. It maybe is just something in this season of life.

  • @tomhammond89

As a guy I disagree about the games. And this is coming from someone who in highschool and in the military I played for at least 6-8hours a day. I now have three boys and might play a game on my phone about 30min a week. In the beginning of my marriage i wish my wife would have steered me towards more masculine activities, which i do now and I'm a much better husband/father because of it.

Hi Abby! I wanted to ask a question for this Q and A but wasn't able to in time. I (20 female) and my husband (23 male) are expecting our first child. I'm preparing the nursery and speaking with my own mother as well as my mother in law and am having such a good time preparing for the first of what I hope will be a long line of children - God willing. A couple of days ago, my husband brought up the topic of names while we were in our garden, and we started a conversation about what we would name our child if they were a girl or a boy. I was raised Christian and wanted all our children to have Biblical names as it meant a lot to me. My husband on the other hand was not raised Christian but converted 2 years before we were married, and he didn't want Biblical names as he didn't think it was that important. I'm not sure how to get through to him as this is incredibly important to me. I hope you can help! God bless you and your husband, and god bless your sweet baby boy!

We are ALL born sinners in need of a savior. God has revealed himself and his intended design through creation itself. He has given us his Holy word written through the hands of sinners even so as God-breathed scripture. The Bible tells us that we can never buy our way to heaven because of our good works-- we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. Jesus says “You will know a tree by it's fruit.” in faith, we are called to repentence in honoring God by following his commands and not reveling in the sin which we once did. Though we often fall short, if you are truly sorry and repent of sin and trust in Him, he will give you a new heart. While we are still sinners as Christians, we have become new and no longer desire the things of the flesh. God designed man and women to join as one within the covenant of marriage, 1 man 1 woman. Anything outside of this is sexual immorality and is thus a sin. God so loved the world that He gave his only son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.

    • @ProbablyBased

What does he do generally? Or I guess is there a way for him to advance in his career? He might not make enough *now*, but with a few more years could his job be in a better place financially? Are you currently working to put you both in a better place financially so there isn't as much debt when you do leave the workforce?
This might stem from a deeper values misalignment. If you want to be a SAHM and he doesn't want that for you - are you really of one mind on your future together? This is something you two should sit down and discuss. You also need to evaluate if your dream of being a homemaker is too big for you to let go of, and if so, how can you work to make that a reality together? That will probably involve living farther out of the city, in a smaller house, and good budgeting capabilities. It's always possible, but there's a lot of nuance and sacrifice
