Great to see you back. Hecate being seen as evil isn't new. In the middle ages Hecate was seen as the leader of the witches. I studied Shakespeare's Macbeth at school and Hecate appears to the three witches in it.
From some online notes on Macbeth
Hecate is the goddess of witchcraft, and one can view her as the ruler of the Three Witches. In Act 3, Scene 5, Hecate appears before the Witches and demands to know why she has been excluded from their meetings with Macbeth.
She tells them Macbeth will be back to know his destiny and she proclaims that he will see apparitions that will, "by the strength of their illusion" lead him to conclude that he is safe. She plays an important role in the play because of the lines she utters at the end of the scene: "And you all know, security/Is mortals' chiefest enemy." She reveals in these lines that Macbeth's belief that he is untouchable will ultimately result in his downfall.

As a modern-day worshipper of Hekate a Hekatean male witch, we as witches don't see Hekate as evil, infact we see her as a kind protective mother figure.
Indeed, she is recognised as the queen and goddess of witchcraft and magick, but we also don't see witchcraft as evil either.
To us, witchcraft is simply harnessing energy and bending the will of fate if you like and turning it in our own favour, or to put it simply, answering ones own prayers instead of going to the christian god.
But we very much believe in Karma and so have a moral code.
Some of us, however, do pray to Hekate and ask for her to give our magick workings a 'boost'.
She is known as the queen of darkness but not because she's evil, because she is not, but because she is the torch bearer who guides her devotees through dark times and leads them to the light and safety.
She is the lover of animals, especially dogs and wolves, and she protects children and mothers, as well as the homeless and people on their travels in daily life.
Of course, some think to use her for baneful magick, but her true devotees believe she is fair and just and will only avenge those who she considers her faithful and even then ALL guilty parties pay a price including her devotee if he/she isn't entirely innocent.
She has a dark side and a light side, but so does ANY god or mortal, but she definitely isn't evil.
Shakespeare was the Hollywood of his day, and Hollywood always portrays what it doesn't truly understand as evil.
That's how the witch hunts began back in the 14th and 15th centuries because of a controlling invasive Roman church driving out the pagan beliefs by using peoples fear to do its dirty work, infact it could be said that the Roman church by nature was much like its armies that went before them in that being aggressive and conquering.

It's sad how Hecate is considered as a "goddess of evil" in Western civilization context (largely due to factors like Christianity), when she is in fact quite benevolent - like how Hecate assisted Demeter in searching for her daughter Persephone after she was abducted by Hades and then becoming her companion in the underworld. Why do Westerners have to see underworld gods like Anubis, Hades etc. as evil all the time?

Why did they have to lay with daughters of man to steal dominion of the earth? This is why we wrestle with powers + principalities, not flesh and blood.

@Iapetus the Stag Do we? I doubt we know any less of this than you, or the man your listening to. Well, maybe than him. There certainly is a cult of Hecate black magick, which is interesting. You sound more than a little upset. Don’t be upset.

@@Keimelia Sacrificed puppies? Seems like a goddess who loves dogs would be rather disinclined towards those who sacrifice them in her name. Rather counterintuitive.

Some refer to her as the tripple goddess but there are many times female witches appear in threes.
Also seen as the maiden mother and crone. Thats also seen as the beginning, middle , and end but the mari is the original tripple goddess. The 3 phases of the moon. Crescent, harth , and full.
So yes i guess hecate is much different than the tripple goddess.

It's usually just translated as an impersonal divine force or god. It is usually "the divine power" while theos is the god in person. It is not an easy concept for us.
