Geez, when you paused to let it sink in… lmao you make me feel old now 😂 I remember I wanted to play FFVII before… bought the three discs in Italy… but never played it until I got a PSP…
I started my FF journey with 13. Imo it was a masterpiece. It was really linear but the battle system, music, visuals, and atmosphere made up for it. I seriously hope they give it a remaster for PS4/5
Ff13 was like my 9th or 10th one to play. And still to this day, after playing every main title, is my favorite series. The story is AMAZING, and if the developers and producers could have done EVERYTHING they wanted with it, and include all the story elements in a more outgoing way, people would love it more. There’s so much hidden in the menus that I love. The hate against lightning is also unfounded, because there are reasons she seems “bland” and “uncaring” which is told in the story, and she shows such growth in the trilogy, and nobody gave it a chance

The big new thing I remember about 7 was this was the 1st to have guns as a weapon. I thought "How can they do that when guns kill so much better than swords?" Answer, the bullets go really slow:-D
i preferred 13-2 over 13, both were really fun though! During this (90's, super early 2000) generation of games though (ff7/8/9), I honestly disliked ff9 the most (just cuz it was such a shift from ff7 cloud/ff8 squall) Ironically ff9 is really good, i was just slightly anti at the time. It is interesting to see how perspectives change overtime. ff13 is definitely a solid game!

22:30 a lot of people dont like FF13 because they felt like it held your hand too much and was too many steps back from ff12. Most people i have talked too were unhappy cause ff12 was more fleshed out and polished game. And this is coming from someone who loves 13 and 13-2. but it is very shallow compared to other FF games imo. they ignored too many of the core elements of final fantasy for that entry.... it plays nothing like the rest. makes it too easy for the game to play itself. and that is just sad cause ff12 will literally play itself and no one complained about that. its just from 12 to 13 was a lot of disappointment. edit: think about it like this. there were about 3 years between ff12 releasing and ff13. a lot of people were excited for a new game it had been a long time since a new FF. up until that point FF games were releasing almost every year or every other year. so when we finally got a game... and it wasnt anything like the previous franchise and felt watered down we were unhappy. once again. This is a blind playthrough right? But you're talking like you already know the characters - have you played Remake or something before coming to the original?
Characters have always been iconic, so many fans of JRPGs talk about these characters everywhere on the internet. Even my first introduction to Tifa Lockhart was Rooster Teeth’s Death Battle of her vs Yang Xiao Long
13's good. The day it was released it was branded as all of these horrible things. When that happens you know that whoever's reviewing it hasn't been paid off in a way they would have liked, so they're going to accentuate the flimsiest stuff they can find front and center. I would say that the last 1/3 of that game was particularly epic and engrossing. It was fine before it, but it really picked up towards the end.
I have played 13 all the way thru when it first came out and I have also played every other final fantasy ever made (except the continuations of 13). I am on the hate train for it hard. I can name several reasons why. But my main one was squares attitude about it all. They outright refused fan criticism about the game and also didn't listen to what the fans where wanting next. Keep in mind that they remade the ff7 opening for the ps3 reveal in 2005 and the fan base went full Monkey mode over it expecting the game to be coming in the next couple years. What they got was the dissapoinemt that was ff13 two years after the ff7 trailer. A game that square kept trying to cram down the fan bases throat. There was a interview at one point where they outright said (as far as I know) that they would not remake ff7 until they made a FF that was better. Or something along those lines. Someone even removed lightnings hair and added clouds hair then compared it to cloud from the movie and there was no difference. Square even made it worse by adding clouds outfit and sword for lightning to use as a add on which just insulted the fans more because if their attempts to make lightning replace cloud. Then came more ff13 games. People had every right to be mad back then.
I highly, HIGHLY, disagree. What the 13 series as a whole showed quite clearly is that the team working on the games listened a lot to fan criticisms, and changed their sequel games to reflect that with multiple corrections and alterations. They listen to fans in ways that are actually productive; not just pandering to every call for remaking every single nostalgic childhood memory. There are so many differences between 13, 13-2 and Lightning Returns that just reek of them trying to improve based on what fans didn't like about previous entries, sometimes to the point of over-correcting. And honestly, thinking back from then to now, Square has shown through its FF games like XIII and XIV, that while they don't always hit the mark at first, they're always trying to change things in find ways to satisfy the players based on feedback. Which is SO much more than I can say for most AAA game companies nowadays. And they obviously improved a lot over the years considering the quality of the FF7 Remake. And one praise I can have for the 13 series over 15 is that they did a good job at telling the individual stories they wanted to tell to completion. For me what harmed 15 the most was the feeling of incompleteness it had, and the disjointedness in trying to fix that was part of its downfall as well. You say they didn't listen to fans because they didn't just throw a remake at us for an easy win. But I strongly believe that had they done that without working on what they were currently doing back in the day, FF7 Remake would have probably played just like one of the 13 games. Or 15. Not to mention it would not have looked half as good as it ended up. And their ideology of wanting to make something better than FF7 before remaking it is perfectly sound, since if you can't even make something equal or better than what you're going to remake, then your Remake isn't going to be equal or better than the original either, which is an obvious disappointment. Fans ask for a lot of things, and basically want companies to remake every childhood game of their in existence, to the point where it's becoming a rather tired trend of game remakes and remasters in the industry. If fans have their way, there'd be little to no original stories in games to date, people would get bored yet again, and developers would probably get burnt out on a lack of creative diversity and freedom. Also fans can be overly sensitive and dramatic about certain games that they take everything as a personal insult. So when it comes to fandoms, companies need to listen, but also add many grains of salt.
13 was 'bad' because people were used to large open worlds. 13 is a corridor and the combat is easy mode for babies. Is it as bad as people say? Not that bad. Is it a good final fantasy? Ehh...it's okay. It was good enough to get to the end. Love 13-2. 13-3 I couldn't even play for 5 hours. Also still have no idea what L'cie and Fal'cie are lol
13 had it's charms. It looked stunning, the soundtrack was excellent as expected, the combat becomes a bit tactical and the game opens up but by the time they get interesting, about 90% of the game has happened
Funny you say that but lots of people complained it was too hard lol. I guess some old FF fans don't have well tuned reflexes? EDIT: I also find it really odd how people either hate 13 and love 13-2, or the opposite. I liked 13, but couldn't stand the sequel.
@@Walamonga1313 To be fair each Final Fantasy game has something different in the combat, you have materia, sphere grids, junctioning, etc. I was highly intimidated by the junctioning mechanic in 8 until I eventually got used to it. 13 likely was hard to some people but easier for others, the faster learners are always gonna have an easier time.
I agree that XIII gets too much hate. I'm currently replaying it after not playing it since it released and thoroughly enjoying it. . . . But the battle system is god-awful
about the hot cheese take: I only like cheese when its melted on pizza or in toasted bread things, not cold and solid, it looks gross. I also dont like eggs.
The general consensus among video game...academics, I suppose you could call them? Critical thinkers? Whatever, those who try to be more academic then "I hate this game, it sucks," generally say that FFXIII was not a bad game, just a huge disappointment. Personally, I would say the emotive acting was way overdone, the coincidence/symbolism aspects (Team NORA and Hope's mom being named Nora, for example) were as subtle as a flame covered sledge hammer hitting you in the face (such things, IMO, only work when they sutble to the point you don't THINK it, but you FEEL it). And between the cutscenes being super long, the story often moving forward at a snail's pace, the fights being way more difficult than normal for a FF title, and while the Paradigm system worked much, much better than most people expected, I still never quite felt like I had as much control over my characters as I should have, and a story world that is just so bleak where the good in the world seems to be only occasionally hinted at, which made it difficult for me to care; all these things combined to make a game that, for me, was just very draining and stressful. But I'm glad you liked it more than me.
Yeah I hated what they did to the summons. 'what do we do for the summons this game? We want to have a new experience. Do we make new summons like in 12? No? Cars it is'
Take a shot everytime I drop an f-bomb!!! :)))

It was fine before it, but it really picked up towards the end.
i always thought jesse was a dude
Love it how this game still lives on. Have you played the remake yet?
It sounds like she has. She played the remake first and this game will break her, just like it broke the rest of us.
What a BAD take
13 was 'bad' because people were used to large open worlds.
@@Walamonga1313 I didn't like Serah or whoever that dude was. I liked the world system and pokemonesque aspect of it.
03:35 you weren´t born
I agree that XIII gets too much hate. I'm currently replaying it after not playing it since it released and thoroughly enjoying it.

But the battle system is god-awful
about the hot cheese take: I only like cheese when its melted on pizza or in toasted bread things, not cold and solid, it looks gross.
I also dont like eggs.
Are you Australian?
Aerith the best.
No? Cars it is'
@@babyplaneswalker341 What? That was one of the best parts of 13. The Eidolons were so cool
