- FF7 was an incredible experience and will forever be one of my favorites. I wasn't expecting it to live up to all the praise I had always heard about it, but it certainly did. I love these characters and this world so very much ;-;

"every iteration of shiva can step on me" SAME
this video is amazing and your aerith voice gets me every time LMAO, can't wait for part two!!!
A hint of Michael Jackson in it.
"Sephiroth is Tifa's dad?!"
The emotional resonance of Aerith’s death really get driven home because you have to go through a boss fight with her theme playing in the background. It makes it hurt more because you’re not allowed to grieve. You’re not allowed the time or space to live with that loss, but it’s subconsciously with you because of the musical cue that reminds you of her.
After playing REMAKE 7 times, there are SO many parallels and emotions that drive the game that still resonate. My wife just started her 3rd playthrough yesterday, and she’s preparing herself to ugly cry through 3 chapters because she knows it’s coming, and she can’t stop it from happening.
Disclaimer: I asked her to give it a chance, and the storytelling character building and love that I’ve always had for these characters mean I cry too.
That’s why I find it sad that so many people are like : Cloud is so emo in Advent Children, it’s unnecessary, he should be over it all…
It’s not that easy, things can come back years later, none of them had the chance or time to even grieve her loss, they just couldn’t and that fight right after makes you feel that rush that they had to go through because they also had to keep on going despite everything.
The fight makes it even sadder 😭
Leigh talks about how the mansion is probably haunted
*laughs in Vincent Valentine*
"kids played this !?" Yup. 13 years old here. My mom didn't understand my sorrow when I finished CD1
I had to have been around the same age. Maybe a year younger. I remember my disc two didn’t work, and when my dad took me to Best Buy to get another one I chewed them out for how long I had spent on the first disc and that they should give me a second one for free for selling faulty merchandise. Suffice to say, my dad told me to shut up and we had to pay for a second one.
I first started playing when I was 8, and I think I finished it when I was 9. The funny thing is, while I'm normally moved by games very easily, I didn't get that emotional at the end of Disc 1. I think I was more numb than anything. I already suspected something was different because all of her equipment went into the inventory after she left the party, and that never happened any other time the party split up. (Yes, I picked up on details even when I was young.)
It was only after I had matured, years later, and read Cloud's dialogue very carefully, that the magnitude of the moment hit me. Seeing Yuffie's reaction sealed it for me, I think...
(I just remembered though, for some reason, one thing that did upset me was the situation between Cid and Shera. As a hormonal early teen I had spontaneous bouts of crying at times and that was one thing that popped into my head.)
I really like seeing people play this masterpiece for the first time.
Same
Me too it really shows how awesome this game is and why its a classic and my fav game of all time
Glitchiest masterpiece ever.
Me too sephiroth
It's a good game. I got it on Xbox Gamepass and I liked it so much that I bought the remake on my PS4 and the original when they took it off. Honestly as much as I love the remake, the characters and backgrounds just have more charm in the original if you ask me
Haha that Aerith reaction was spot on with everyone's first play through, you get super sad then you realize you don't have your main healer for the party anymore and then you really breakdown. lol
"Is it depth perception?" THANK YOU!!!
When I first played this game I got stuck in that stupid construction yard and leveled up like 4 levels because I could not find where to go at all. So thank you for pointing it out. My fav game but damn that walk up to wall market was not conveyed well at all
I feel less dumb now ooof !!! Thought it was just me
I died many, MANY times here because I was underleveled and I couldn’t find my way out. I got so upset cause I even had the damn official guide and it still didn’t help!
You & nyxipuff should be friends. I love both your channels
TIFAAAAAAA!!! 😅
Loved seeing this playthrough unfold in real time and I can't wait to re experience it again!
Welcome back to UA-cam Leigh!!
I first played this game with my uncle (who is 6 years older than me, my mother has a large family) when I was 8. We stayed up late so many nights that summer and formed a lot of great memories. I’ll never forget the feelings I had when we played it together. So much so that I still call this game my favorite game of all time. It’s always so nice to see someone experience your favorite game of all time for the first time. So glad you enjoyed it.
The death of Aerith was a pivotal moment in gaming for me. Never before had a video game killed a protagonist, and definitely not one you had grown attached to.
Phantasy star 2 did this first.
@@tats_sacs Ok I didn't know that. From my perspective at the time, no game had done it before FF7.
CelticSpike Plays phantasy star 2 was worse for me because they literally killed the strongest character. Nei
@@celticspike2522 also ff4 and Ff6... There's plenty of games that did a protagonist death prior to ff7.
None of them hit as hard, because of graphic limitations.
@@chaosstorm8307 that's a good point
That moment when cloud places Aerith into the water. I remember it. I was a young teen watching a movie in a theater with my first love. This scene came in a trailer. At that time it was in all pre movie trailers watching Aeriths body float down. None of us was prepared for what came
I'm still watching through the Twitch VODs of Disk 1, there are so many golden moments. Can't even imagine how you narrowed it down to just half an hour
This playthrough was so amazing to watch on stream. Awesome job Leigh ❤️
Aerith was a nice subversion of the damsel in distress archetype. You (Cloud) thought you had to rescue her when she went off on her own - but by the time you reach the ending you realize she saved the world while you dealt with your personal issues.
Tifa was also a nice subversion of the childhood friend archetype - she was infatuated with you, but the game doesn't present this in a overtly good way - since Kalm, you get the uneasy feeling that she's either lying, mistaken, or dealing with issues of her own. Both she and Cloud made decisions based on their insecurities and losses and they're suffering.
This game will always hold a special place in my heart, as will this play through, as it is the one where I found Leigh! Can't wait for the Wutai cat room in Part 2 (or 3?)!
It's so brutal that you have to fight that boss battle with Aeris' music playing in the background. It was such a devastating moment, playing this game as a kid.
THIS PLAYTHROUGH CURED MY DEPRESSION
"Sephiroth is Tifa's dad?"
Sephiroth: 😏
I wonder if she watched Advent Children, as well, in preparation for the Remake? I hope she did : )
I remember the first time I went through FF7 way back in the day when I was young. I cried the entire battle with Jenova and winning a boss fight never felt so unimportant and unfulfilling. To this day, I love and adore Aerith's Theme not just because she was a beautiful and amazing character, but because how she was wrenched from us when we needed her the most.
That movie undid every progress Cloud had in the Og game. I only like it for the fighting scenes. But story it was a travesty to Sakaguchis vision
So glad UA-cam randomly led me to your channel, the cutest and most adorable gamer I've evere seen
I remember very well the moment aerith got stab by sepiroth..I was playing this during midnight..that scene shocked me. After the battle, i straight away save and went to sleep. I didn't cry at that time, but it does make me speechless and thinking about it before i went to sleep..
"oh wait is this a pick who you can romance kinda game? cuz im gonna go with the girl who can beat me up. I mean Aerith is great and all but have you seen Tifa? Daaang." XDDD
Also Tifa doesn’t die, which imo is a big bonus😂
I would still choose Aerith
10:15 You had me at "Is this Chris' blood?" :)
Oh man, watched part 1 and part 2 of this and your reactions were identical to mine when I first played Final fantasy 7! Definitely a homing missile to the feelios.
The Jenova fight is cruel and unusual punishment
Ah yes the Demon Wall, my most brutal gaming memory from when I was a kid ever.
And I mean kid, I was like 8 or 9 when I played this a 3 or 4 years after it came out. That shit was brutal.
Grinding in the hall where the black materia is is very helpful, because you have a save point and healer right outside the door. Spent a lot of time leveling up there. My other favorite place to grind was in the rail station when you jump off the train. If you don’t go to the front of the train, you have only have to go back a screen or two until you face a continuous stream of guards. Always made sure Cloud at least had his first level 2 limit break before I left there.
bro.i remember having the fight those flyign dragon things for hours to level up enough to beat demons gate and his 1500hp damage attacks lol
Watched your FF7R vids and went back to see this. You really put a lot of time into these edits! Nicely done, that's quite some dedication/time sink.
This game was my first intro to Final Fantasy; bought it when it came out as a kid with allowance money. First game/story I cried to. Spent well over 99 hours, 100% everything possible in the game... What a trip...
I like you, it was fun watching your playthrough highlights. You play a lot of games i'm interested in and you seem like someone I'd watch often, so here's a sub.
Lmaoo “cat shit”. Love this so much
Your journey is so fun, I can’t wait to watch the rest of the FF7 videos.
"Aeris will not longer talk, or laugh, or cry, or get angry..."ToT
"Y'all played this as kids!? I'm done."
Yeah . . . I think that every time I replay it or watch someone play it. I played it with my dad when I was 10ish. I'm so surprised he introduced it to me at that age. To be fair, a lot of the mature content went right over my head until I went back to it a couple of years later.
Yo WTF you deserve more views! This was a great videoooo
Nice silent hill 4 reference too I thought nobody liked that game lmao
29:51 this bit of the game was good at screwing with emotions, especially considering i was about 8 years old by time I'd got to this part. The fact they kept her theme tune playing during the Jenova Life battle was ingenious portrayal of fighting through the loss and trauma too 😢
My all time favorite game stl to this day! I was 8 years old when it came out and as much as I idolize and have a huge man crush on Sephiroth now, all his scenes use to scare the hell out of me as a kid haha 😂. Aerith will always be my first love, and I'll probably continue to play this game and everyone of them on the series until I die.
I got this game at a Game Crazy back in 1997. (Game Crazy, what a fine age.) The library puzzle was one I didn't figure out back in the day. But, became one of my favorites later on. Each room has a particular subject, and each book has a number on it that indicates the position of the letter you need from said book. The book that is in each room that does not match the subject in that room is the book you need a letter from. It's a fun one to also use a pen and paper for. One of the hardest puzzles is the Shinra Mansion for the safe.
Oh boy, I remember playing it when the game came out in 1997. I was 10 years old then. Nowadays it's quite common to see main characters die and it still hurts (think of Game of Thrones), but back then in 1997 to see one of the main characters who's so nice, innocent and is all about protecting her team, it was absolutely *unheard of* to see them die, and it shocked me to the core as a child. I was mortified and couldn't believe my eyes. I felt as if I've lost a family member. My mom couldn't understand why I'm crying in front of my Playstation and why I was so depressed for almost a week.
I've spent countless hours after Aerith's death trying to find a way to bring her back. But alas...
The rage I've felt towards Sephiroth for killing Aerith is not something that you can describe with words.
Thank you, Square Enix, for these amazing childhood memories.
Final Fantasy VII taught many of us about loss
Hahahahaha the voice over was on point
I laughed so many times 😂😂 instant subscriber!
Lmao at 10:16 "Is this Chris's blood" got me 🤣🤣
its been over 20 years and it still doesnt get easier. im not ready to see it again .
Well done on that mayor puzzle damn.
I hope I get to see highlights of your FFVII Remake playthrough. I love your reactions but I don’t have the time to sit through 30-40 hours worth of VODs on Twitch. I loved these!
17:12 I was replaying this game shortly after my dad died. That section made me loose it a bit not gonna lie
4:16 I wasted so much time in that zone as a kid don't knowing where to go. Loving the playthrough
Rewatching this again, watching Aerith’s death scene still hit home. And it made me realize that if she dies in the Remake (which is now not certain), it will absolutely DESTROY the gamer. I mean, we got emotionally attached with and grieved for a lego figure. Can jou just imagine how absolutely brutal this scene will be now with the character being an actual human?!
STILL F**** HURTS WHEN "THAT" SCENE 😣😣😣😣😣
"Is this a pick who you romance type of game?"
Sephiroth: Cloud is mine and mine alone.
What an adventure
"Clam, isn't that clam?"😂😂
I ALSO love when Cat Shit betrays you
I’m not ready to face how they will handle her death scene in the remake. Tears will be shed
I lost it at "Cat Sh**" 😂😂🤣🤣
Not laughing at Ifalna protecting the future savior of Gaia lmao
I missed our ff7 adventure.
And you’re long hair
Yaaaas!
everytime aerith dies it's so sad. i still remember the emotional tearing when it happened so many years ago lol
When you realize how long of from Midgar is only the 1st disc... The remake will never be completed :(
Imagine not knowing about her dying at all and seeing this scene.
I'm glad u weren't spoiled on that part I wasn't either and I cried cussed and broke my tv with my 🎮 my fav magic user dead why square why😢😭
Everyones first mistake when playing this for the first time... utilizing Aerith as the party healer lol
i can't wait to see what they do with aeiths death in the remake
Wanted to see if the Odin boss would turn red or purple. When he turns red it’s usually instadeath. After figuring out the puzzle for that long and then he turns red...
You are so emotional on this games, ist love it. It makes my haert melt. Love you 👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🙈
No good. Let's try again.
No good. Let's try again.
No good. Let's try again.
No good. Let's try again.
No good. Let's try again.
Side note : I know it's not easy to play and stream. Splitting your attention between the game and live chat. But this is hilarious.
Hey just found your channel - you're awesome!!
One thing that I really like about Aeris' death is that she doesn't speak any "last words" before dying. I always found those scenes really unnecessary - it is much more shocking and powerful if a character just dies immediately.
Like, they are alive, and then BAM! they are dead, and _that's it._
YES!!
Shes... alive?
Should have learned “Big Guard” from the big turtles 🐢 on Wu Tai beaches. Reduce that wall boss’ damage in half.
woah... that man in a black cape with a tattoo number 6, they were on the remake :o woah
I love these videos so much! You kind of resemble a blonde Aubrey Plaza 🤔
4:00 professional voice actress right there.
It took me over half way thru this part to realize her Aerith sounds like Luanne from King of the Hill.
Absolutely love Cait Sith being called Cait $h!t. Describes him like a T. lol
When are you playing FF8 on Twitch? You seem to have skipped it
+Knock Knock+ Jenova's Witness!
play Final Fantasy 7 crisis core, and before crisis to understand more of the game 😊
Why did it take u so long to play this game?
maybe most beautiful funeral scene in entertainment..
She named RedXIII RedASS! 🤣🤣🤣
...and CatShit.....😹😹😹
Hang on, how did she already know some of these characters?
Can I see full stream anywhere?
Did you watched FFVII Machinabridged?
Did you just call jigsaw, triangle and slapjack?
4:40 SO KNOWN FEELING
Superb!
I've noticed that the voice for Tifa and Aerith sound alot like princess Zelda done by GameGrumps
Red 13 is the best, bugenhogen is best dad
I really hope you'll do a reaction to ff7 abridged.. (That moment when you said i just can't is when ya got me)
Do you fight emerald weapon and ruby weapon? Or do you just follow the story line
@@zayne7921 they are optional
@@zayne7921 I know I'm not a moron... my question was did they do the optional bosses on this play through or just the main story...
it's Legitimate question, so stop trying to make it look like a stupid one!
@@zayne7921 no worries mate.
"aerith's great n all but dang have you seen tifa"
what a MOOD been that way since the 90s XD
Leigh pulls a few blonde moments early on XD Its all good
Dios necesito la versión extendida!! jajaja
You literally skipped Vincent? I'm so disappointed.
The moment that traumatized an entire generation
4:17 dw i had this problem on my first playthrough too lmao
Yeah demon wall killed the shit out of me my first time too hahaha
did kids play this? not sure, depends on the kids reading levels? I knew at the time mostly teens and young adults were REALLY into it. But even young adults understood the themes of it as they played it.
I remember trying to get one of my friends interested in it, but I don't think it ever really clicked with him, he thought it was boring. I adored the FF games though, but I was also a bookworm since a young age. I acted out scenes from the game on the playground and everything lol. I replayed it many times as I grew up and I would understand everything a little bit more every time I did.
