    With the incorporation of Fusion and audio features into Resolve now, that price is looking better and better, especially with there being a very capable free version to check it out with.

    I just know Resolve will make a jump and even faster near term imo...the new bmpcc4k will be catalyst, i.e. full version of Resolve is free with bmpcc4k purchase. And the camera should sell very well with its enticing price of $1300.

    I've just started to learn video and editing recently. I tried Premiere Pro because I shoot stills and use Photoshop/Lightroom so it made sense to try with Audition. However, after numerous problems and crashes I tried Resolve and the difference is amazing. I'm still a Photoshop user so will switch to the lower tier sub but Resolve seems to have everything I need on a PC.

    I'm in the outlier group and use Vegas Pro. It is under active development and many features have been added to it. I also have Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut, and still like Vegas. It has one of the most intuitive interfaces, handles audio very well, and rendering speeds are improving now that it has GPU acceleration. Is it perfect? No. But I like it.

    The number going up for FCP X is that also many Apple users fell into the Adobe web, but they then realized that Apple makes a NLE that works great on our own computers and also, as Resolve, you pay once and get free updates that also do great features. The latest that made the round was the color tab on the 10.4 version of FCP X. Also, by comparing videos by Max Yuriev and other tech people, FCP X on Mac works really much better than Premiere Pro and is only rivaled by Resolve. Even for high resolution footage.

      It's not so much that they felt into Adobe's web but more that Apple finally fixed it.
      Early FCP was terrible for a "pro" NLE.
      Also what helped were the free updates.
      People who bought it then could update without any payments which helps big time.
      Tho I still dislike it, no one can deny FCPX came from a long, long way.
      Now if they only added an option to get a regular timeline I'd be golden.
      Until then, back to AVID.

      I agree with those points, and I’d just add that FCPX has also become a lot better than when it debuted, and it keeps improving. It’s hard to rival its speed on good Mac. I think FCPX would take over if Apple was willing to sell it to other OS platform. (Not going to happen, I know.) Resolve’s editing has also improved a ton. In fact, Resolve overall is much more intuitive and snappy than it was a few years ago too.

    David, how was your learning curve for switching from Premier to Resolve? I'm interested in Resolve basically because of BRAW, but still struggling with the mechanics of Resolve

    Resolve: A couple years ago the recommended specs for resolve were pretty crazy, It was too sluggish. Haven't tried since.
    Final cut X: It's so efficient, everything is so fast and smooth. I just dislike so much about it too though (user interface, workflow, button layout/locations, keyframing, grading, ect.).
    Premiere: Everything makes sense, if I didn't know how to do something I could guess correctly. It could be perfect, but... Its just so buggy and slow, especially on mac.
    Bottom line: I've always wanted Premiere with the reliability and efficiency of FCPX for 1 one time payment.

    Can't seem to find anyone with an answer, hope you can help on Resolve question. Old hdv files at 1440*1080 that I'm trying to convert to 1920*1080. I can't seem to find right setting for it. From settings to file format, everything pops up 1440 or 1920 but aspect ratio on the 1920 still looks like format choosen choosen, meaning property shows 1920*1080 but have bars showing the aspect ratio... Thanks.

      Also, what setting do you use for export for best results without bloating the file? A 4k video with a file size of a gig and I get results from 38mb to 100+gigs! Thanks Dave.

    I cannot understand why anyone would want to use PP
    ANYWAY... I switched to Resolve about the same time you did. I put it on my under-powered laptop because windows 10 was grinding it to a halt so I threw Ubuntu on there. I now run the latest Resolve with Ubuntu 18.10 and it absolutely flies. It has turned my laptop from being a boat anchor to a useful editing machine - and I don't even have the paid version of the software yet.
    I am hoping to get the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K soon, and then I will get my full version of DR. Looking forward to trying network rendering and multi-user collaboration on the same project at the same time. What a weapon. Currently I'm on the full suite of CC but I am weaning myself off it. I've switched to Affinity Designer, switching to Affinity Photo (both of which are on iOS), and I will be using Luminar very soon. And then I am done with Adobe.
    I already have licence to Music software on Linux (Harrison Mixbus (analog ardour), and soon Bitwig). If I can get my graphics software onto Linux, then I will be fully set.
    DR is a lean, mean, production machine.

    I don't think premiere is expensive, I pay like 62 or so a month bit I got all the Adobe suite, yes the color tab in premiere SUCK, for serious color work I always do a round trip, premiere is buggy but it still get the job done

    Hi Mr D, too late to vote, yesterday I started a subscription to PremPro (unwillingly) and have made first steps in learning system. I have used iMovie & Lightroom before now. I am doing some real estate vids for realtor who insists on PremierePro. I’ve only bought base package ($21.99 per month) with just PrePro app, will I be able to do basic color grading, exposure fixing or do I need to go up to the $50 p.m. option in your opinion? I have a Mac and would far rather make the jump to FinalCut or Resolve. I’m using GH5 btw. Thank you!

    • @dasaauto2024
      @dasaauto2024 5 років тому

      alan moore Can’t speak for Mr. D, but I’ve use/have used PP, FCPX, Vegas and Resolve, and in your situation I’d recommend going with FCPX, while using & learning Resolve 15 for free in spare time. It’s good to know Premiere Pro just in case you need to use it in the future, but FCPX and Resolve (even the free edition) are a much more potent combination for video editing.

      Dasa Auto Thanks, I will def look into FC & Resolve for my own use but I’m beholden to the realtor at the moment, and they emphasized PremPro. Respect to you.

    With all this talk about optimization with macs, I think that's why people are going over to final cut. Personally I think final cut x is horrible compared to its predecessor and the competition, but that's just me. Personally I have a macbook pro, loved it in the beginning with final cut 7 and 1080p content but hated it for the cost and lack of upgradeability so I decided to go the pc route. Personally I love both systems. I just really wish mac wasn't so costly and non-upgradeable.
    I really want to switch to resolve, but its still just a little too clunky for me. Hoping they can make the navigation of the timeline be more fluid. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

    I don't know how you can stand working 100% on Windows. How can you work without ProRes?? I guess for UA-cam maybe it doesn't matter. But when working on professional gigs, you can't use H264. It's way too compressed. And you can't use DNxHR either because it's not a standard codec that plays on anyone's computer. You'd get a lot of angry clients that can't play their files! So what do you do without ProRes? There's literally nothing on Windows that compares.

      @skakdosmer 5 років тому

      Yes, I did look it up ;-)
      I just find it odd and slightly irritating that so many people just fling abbreviations around expecting everybody to know what they mean.
      It's never a good way to welcome newcomers, as it only makes them feel left out.

    • @skakdosmer

      And by the way, the phrase “non linear editor” doesn't mean anything to me. Why is it called that, and how is it different from a linear editor? And are all non linear editors related to video?

    • @annekedebruyn7797
      @annekedebruyn7797 5 років тому

      A few people using Premiere Pro doesn't mean it's any good.
      Nolan uses a cheap Casio EV4500 as his director monitor. That doesn't make it any good which is why literally everyone else don't use it.
      AVID still rules in every major area (Film, Broadcasting, finishing houses.)
      Yet, the majority of the low end videographers are all on FCPX or Premiere (at least on this poll.)
      That doesn't make it good or bad.
      Like sure, FCPX is fast but its workflow is still a hell to work with in high end productions.

    • @dasaauto2024
      @dasaauto2024 5 років тому

      pete49327 I’m 99% sure they didn’t do that on their on volition, and with zero incentive- especially since Hollywood doesn’t run on Premiere. Plus, Adobe practically marketed that announcement like they paid for it. Resolve is the default coloring program for the “elite” that you speak of, so AVID might want to dust their off their software devs and do something before colorists realize how great Resolve works as an NLE now.
