    When you ride these bikes back to back you really learn one thing. The Sherco is great in the slower stuff and the YZ250FX is great in the faster stuff. They are kind of built for different purposes. If I’m going to ride really fast and flowing stuff, I’d take the YZ250FX. If it is slower more technical terrain, I’d take the Sherco 300 SEF.
    Both are great bikes, but you have to pick your poison here.

    The Sherco SEF 300 Factory is designed to have the torque and “lug-ability” of a big bike like a 450 or 500. With the maneuverability and handling of a small bike like a 250. That’s why it’s not gonna be quite as “snappy” as a smaller 250. But it’s also gonna make it easier to handle and more forgiving. Especially in the tight technical stuff.

    • @MatthewC137
      @MatthewC137 3 роки тому

      My 2020 YZ450 is probably snappier than that 250, especially right off the bottom. It's too explosive for a lot of situations. I'm sure the lightweight titanium valves help it to rev so quickly.

    I had a chance to ride a 2020 SEF 300 and Yamaha YZ250FX back to back this week also. In my comparison the Sherco has far more power than the Yamaha. I know you said snap not power but the engine on the Sherco I was riding was far better than the Yamaha in every way. I guess the Yamaha I rode was a couple years old so maybe they've made some significant engine improvements that I wasn't aware of. I have been really enjoying your reviews and your honest take on things.

    I'm getting a good sense about the bikes.
    Road racers use the front brake to quicken steering, but not really seen as technique for woods. One day bikes will be able to adjust to rider preferences on the fly.

    Hey Kyle, I'm just getting back into riding, I have a 230 trail bike but it's really undersprung for me and a tad low on power. I want a 300 2 stroke but I'm a bit worried the power band might be hard to get used to while I'm trying to re-learn my technique. Does the green spring and turning the power valve screw in a bit make it a more mellow hit or does it not really make a lot of difference? Thanks

    • @cadencramer2747
      @cadencramer2747 3 роки тому

      @@MrNz96 I mostly just want the low end tractoring ability/grunt that the 300 has since I hardly ever go above 3rd gear where I ride. The riding lessons would be a good idea either way though just to get back in the swing of things and to learn 2 strokes better. I've ridden one before but not a full size bike.

      The 300s are tame when set up the way you describe, you’ll be fine on one. Could also look at a Beta x-trainer, it’s like a way better version of your 230, very mellow and great for lower speed stuff.

      @@MrNz96 Were you trying the street legal version? It’s pretty tame if not uncorked. My 2015 350 xcf was anything but mellow. It was mellow down low and but could still be lugged down low (but would occasionally flame out). But if you didn’t shift early like a 450, and let it rev like a 250, it would scare the crap out of anyone that was unsuspecting. Was only a few HP shy of the 450, but made the power way up high in the rpms. Most people that tried it were short shifting it and didn’t even realize that they were only using half of the rpm range.

      My Buddy races his 16 350xc-w in motocross in A class full of 450 and is not left behind at all. He revs that bike to the moon and it been very reliable. He also raced A off road with it. Very versatile bike once suspension is setup.

      I’m lucky enough to own both and the YZ250fx definitely has its place (3rd gear and faster terrain), but when the single track gets to be tight and gnarly 1st/2nd gear terrain the 250/300 xc/xcw is unbeatable. The YZ is a close second, but it takes more effort and wears me out quicker.
