The Samsung software + camera app-integration is brilliant. The razr screen however is, because of the software more usable. I really like the idea of using a form factor like this in a closed state. Folding it open to get the fuller experience is brilliant. The fold however would be the better option for me because of the bigger form factor but I think that it would please a big target group to have full functionality on just the cover screen of a flip device.
For me, I think that though it may be compromising a bit on battery and other things, I really like it's design and the quality of the outer screen, and how it looks so premium when folded, much more that an iPhone for sure. Not sure if it looks better than an s23 ultra ( that phone just looks superb )
As an apple fan, I’d have to say, it’s a phone that is actually a unbelievable phone. What brought me here is the out screen and it’s huge. Like I was not expecting the flip 5 to be that nice.
I've been loving the heck out of my Flip 4 model for a long time now, and your review of the Flip 5 managed to bring up every reason I love my Flip 4. It's a phone that just feels "fun" for lack of a better word. I'm still figuring out if or when I'll upgrade to a Flip 5, but the fact that Samsung isn't just giving up on this smart-flip-phone premise brings me so much joy. There's a company out there making cool Android phones that bring back the silly, gimmicky and childlike joy that we all remember our earliest phone models feeling like.
I’m glad to see Samsung moving in the right direction but I’m still going to have to give props over to Motorola their flip phone the Motorola Razr+ has been such an amazing phone to use, and the ui is simple and honestly doesn’t contain all the Samsung bloatware or UI issues that come with it.
Thank you so much for your great reviews! I have the 4th generation, and the battery runs out very quickly, and the phone heats up many times during the day, and if I use too many apps at the same time and someone calls me in the middle, the whole phone freezes for a few seconds. From what we see right now, these problems will continue to exist, but with a bigger external screen...😅
Agree 💯%. I loved the form factor and everything about it but sadly even with the best features in the world, battery life is a major deal-breaker. For the price point this whole concept is flawed.
i like the way you call a spade a spade and give an extremely good insight into the devices. i haven't bought a foldable yet and i'm not even thinking about it. but i always get the most important updates through you.
Finally someone who gets the ZFlip!! Absolutely agreed! I think this phone is a winner and it is interesting that this is not a phone for specs enthusiasts, it is really for normal people!
Conversely, that is why I am not inclined to buy it. For £1k, I want design, novelty AND specs. It's the only thing holding me back from the Motorola Razr 40, which has a nearly invisible crease. Do I buy that, or the incredible specs in the OPPO Find X6 Pro, which is a BEAST of a phone with an extraordinary camera...
@@poopoomcgrew That is a very good point and I wonder of how many of us is deciding between going for a ZFLIP, which sure has its constraints but surelyoffers something different, or a full specced-out slab phone like the Oppo Find X6 Pro with all the best Android has.
I love the idea of Foldable phones. With screens getting bigger and bigger, I personally feel they become clunky and uncomfortable to work with, especially if you carry it in a pocket. These incremental improvements that Samsung is making on this series are fantastic. But the only thing holding it back from being my next phone is still the price. I don't use my phone nearly enough to justify using that kind of money. I am excited about the future though. The fact that they didn't just try it and ditch it, but have been steadily improving it, is great news. This could mean that in the future, they might be starting to offer cheaper versions that doesn't have flagship features and components, but still offer a decent phone for a reasonable price. One can hope at least.
Even though I am a heavy iPhone user I still love the samsung flip! And the new one is just perfect! Also this was one of the reasons why I almost switched from my iPhone SE to the Flip
I appreciate the functionality the outer screen brings but I always liked the fact that folding a phone shut protected the screen and allowed you to throw it in your pocket and not worry, this just puts the fragile screen back out in the open again.
Yeahhh, I have the moto RAZR+ and I love it but am worried about longevity, I feel like maybe I should have waited for the regular RAZR 2023 to come out since it has a small cover screen
I love the new outer screen. Even though the design looks like a RAYZR from the outside a little bit, it looks more premium and is no doubt more premium.
Seriously, the way you just grab attention of the user right from the start of the tech review video and make us smile through it to the end, all the while knowledge sharing, that's why you're so special Arun 👑🥳🎉😍
100%. This flip phone era is just companies trying to differentiate their product enough to bring in more sales and compete with apple. If you can afford it, sure buy a flip if you like. But it's an awful phone for practicality and you are essentially paying for a prototype. I mean you get a disgusting crease in your over $1000 phone screen. Their are better samsung phones and apple phones. The flip literally just flips. There is no major benefit that isn't just novelty. Quite honestly, I think folding phone would annoy me after some time. I want my screen ready at all times. I don't want to have to flip it open. Arun in the video says that it helps him focus more, well guess what? Literally every iPhone has a focus mode that you can customize to show only what you want to show. Im assuming samsung does aswell. This isn't innovation, this is differentiation.
I agree. There are so many things wrong with the fundamental idea of having a foldable screen. It doesn’t solve good problems, and creates more problems than it solves.
This is the type of foldable I could actually see myself using. I don’t need my phone to turn into a mediocre tablet. I’ve got a 10” iPad Pro for that, and even that gets rarely used since I got the ROG Ally. I’m still not convinced it’s worth the extra money over a standard flagship smartphone, especially considering the camera compromises. But for those that value form more than high end features, this thing looks really, really good.
dual screen bifolds like Samsung Fold 5 is better than Flip 5. But the cost doesnt justify it. Even on a standard 6.7" phone the image is big enough for UA-cam. For productivity though i doubt tech from Samsung Fold 5 can replace a Surface or iPad.
The regular moto RAZR is coming out later this year and will probably be half the price of this, I have the plus and I love it. I probably should have waited for the z flip 5 to make my decision but I feel pretty good about it based on price (and I got it for free through t mobile)
My main issue with the Z Flip 5 is the huge cover screen. Yes, it's more optimal and can fit a keyboard, but to me, it's too big and not only looks bad when not on, but serves basically the same functionalities as the Z Flip 4. If future generations of Z Flip phones keep the big screen, I might give it a try, but for now I think its unnecessary I'm perfectly content with my Z Flip 4. Also, you can mess with zoom on the cover of the ZF4. 5:27
Yeah I hate how unsymmetrical the new cover screen is. I prefer the screen on my zflip4 as it cute but not too much. I also worry about how much more battery will be used one the flip5 as the battery is the same size
@LukaCuturic this can be done with both phones, just assumabley better on the ZF5 due to the bigger screen. But because of its awkward shape it's hard to tell whether the apps being used on the cover screen is actually good.
In case you didn't know the regular moto RAZR comes out later this year and will be styled more like the 4 and will probably have the best battery of any flip phone
that's where I'm at too, the big screen is so ugly and pointless imo. what's the point of a flip phone at that point lol plus aesthetically, doesn't leave much room for cute cases 😅
My Z flip 4 was the first phone I ever loved and actually worked like a smartphone but I think I'd rather have the four instead of the five just because the cover screen keeps me separated from social media just a little bit more so I much prefer it
I have used flip since the third generation, switched to flip 4 as soon as it came out and I have no plans to go back to them brick phones. I immediately felt I was checking my phone significantly less as soon as I switched to flip 3 and have become more productive. The small form factor has always appealed me so much and this line up of the phones is king in that category. I must say that I need to carry a power bank at all times wherever I go but I was doing that before anyways so no problem in that. Flip for life
I have a Z Flip 3 & I love it. I've had it a couple of years & love it for a lot of the reasons you mentioned, including the female pockets thing! My question is, the phone is so damn expensive, is there enough of a change between 3 & 5 to go for an upgrade or should I wait another year for the flip 6? I have to say I'm digging the larger fold screen!
I think it js better to wait a year cause I feel like it isn't too much of an upgrade from the previous versions just the chip and the outer display, the outer display I will give it to you it is really good but like the amount of things that you can do is still limited I mean you have your whole phone right when you unfold I feel like the purpose of the fold screen should be just to give you notifications and prevent you from sliding into social media by mistake cause you can do all the essential stuff like setting timers etc. Right on the small screen so there is no chance that you will just lose time through social media by mistake. So I would suggest you to wait another year
If flip big upgrade iterations follows the Fold or S series, then their next big upgrade would be flip 6/7 unless they count flip 5 as a big upgrade just coz of the back screen. Hence, if i were u, i would wait for a year then decide to get the flip 5 or flip 6
I believe a big thing for me is that it finally folds flat but I completely agree I just wanted to open all the way up and at least the crease in the center tends to disappear once it gets to a certain temperature but it does irk me a little bit 😂. I also want to thank you for striving to keep neutral reviews and talking about the tech and not going significantly one way on something because it's your preference I have definitely unfollowed people who became extremely blatant iPhone groupies lol. For instance somebody who I unfollowed review this phone saying that it seems like Samsung has just settled and just makes the same phone over and over again and that's somewhere where companies shouldn't be yet they gave the iPhone 12 Pro to 13 Pro a glowing review and didn't point out it has the same size screen or anything like they did in their video for the Samsung 😂. I just appreciate your pretty much neutral reviews and excitement for each individual device you do review no matter what device is. I've been doing this for 20 years working with these phones and I use both a Samsung and a iPhone for work but I prefer the Samsung at the end of the day and that's just me
Personally, I've always seen the flip and fold phones as more of a gimmick but kudos for Samsung for this. Recently, my outlook has changed and they actually do seem cool, that said I still wouldnt buy one
I guess I'll upgrade to a new Flip if Samsung can remove the crease in the middle; aesthetic-wise, I prefer the Flip 4. I was pretty much content with Flip 4, but thank you so much for this review! your insight really helped me if I should or should not upgrade :)
I’ve heard from a Samsung employee who used a tester model that the crease is only visible when the screen is black. He couldn’t see the crease when the screen was on. I don’t know how heavily the phone had been used but he was really impressed with the new hinge
A lot of people make this mistake when complaining about creases and I don't blame y'all, cause a lotta people don't know this, but getting rid of the crease will make you say goodbye to that sweet water resistance
the covering the phone with ur palm to reject/ignore a call is great. i use that often on the apple watch and it’s convenient when you’re in a work meeting/quiet places and need to turn down a call quickly
This is one man's wish. Your Z Flip Unboxing video ultimately got me to buy Z Flip 4 and now I'm waiting for a Z Flip 5 delivered. Back then you were speaking proper English. Proper speed, proper pause in between sentences and your voices properly came up from your gut. Now, you speak fast and ungrounded as most of American reviewer and I wish you to go back to your Zed Flip days. I know you have a huge female viewership much more then any other reviewer. And, I understand them as I get often mesmerized by proper English spoken by female. If your sentiment is same as mine let Arun know.
Nice work! Great analysis. The use of screen space and applications for that space will be very interesting to follow. We're always interested in how features and content can be optimised for the screen spaces that are now available in smartphones. User behaviours, adoption of screen space, new apps/features, and the "statement effect" with these devices.
I'm currently using a Z Flip 4 - but my next phone won't be a flip phone. The gimmick of having half a phone is cool, but it just does not outweigh the negatives. The smaller battery, the lackluster cameras, and having to open the phone to reply to text messages (which seems to be at least gone now with the 5th gen), that's just too much of a hassle. Also, it is quite expensive for what it offers.
I admit it, the fact why I am in love with those little Samsung Flip suckers, is just the novelty and cute form factor. I don't need the best camera or highest specs. There is nothing more to it than me thinking the form factor is the most adorable thing ever.
It looks awesome, sadly i dont trust its durability since mine broke so i had to switch to the ultra series. If they fix the screen durability completely i'll consider giving it another chance in the future maybe, it stops me from buying a foldable for now. i have to make sure no customer has had any issues with the screen, then i'll spend money on it. And it costs as high as a flagship does so, i dont wanna risk it... (and i never dropped mine so idk why it broke)

As an apple fan, I’d have to say, it’s a phone that is actually a unbelievable phone. What brought me here is the out screen and it’s huge. Like I was not expecting the flip 5 to be that nice.
I can confidently say that both Arun's videos and Samsung's phones are both going in the right direction. Both of you, good job and keep it up!
I’m glad to see Samsung moving in the right direction but I’m still going to have to give props over to Motorola their flip phone the Motorola Razr+ has been such an amazing phone to use, and the ui is simple and honestly doesn’t contain all the Samsung bloatware or UI issues that come with it.
lol..the bloatware can be turn off bro. We're not in 2015. My Samsung phone is clean.
the bloatware takes 5 minutes to get rid of if anything.
Samsung UI has no issues as far as I know... I use Samsung for last 6 years
Bruh Androids suck period
What issues do u have with it? I’ve thought about that one!
It is so refreshing to see how much the flip series improves every year, especially given how stale the smartphone market is
Thank you so much for your great reviews!
Man at 7:09 I got a ad about Samsung z flip 5 that’s hilarious
Edit :At the end I got it again oh I am laughing harder than ever before
I love the idea of Foldable phones.
I was hoping they came out with a smaller one too, hopefully that's an option in the next couple years
Afterpay refurbished phones, i pay 250 a fortnight and the pjone was second to new
Watched a number of reviews in this phone but you being your own unique persoective thats refreshing to know!! Please keep it up
Even though I am a heavy iPhone user I still love the samsung flip! And the new one is just perfect! Also this was one of the reasons why I almost switched from my iPhone SE to the Flip
Very happy with that gapless hinge, it might be a small issue but it just looks so much better.
Best video about flip on internet

I love the new outer screen. Even though the design looks like a RAYZR from the outside a little bit, it looks more premium and is no doubt more premium.
Actually its EXACTLY a Razr +. Probably one will sue the other soon. 😂
Seriously, the way you just grab attention of the user right from the start of the tech review video and make us smile through it to the end, all the while knowledge sharing, that's why you're so special Arun 👑🥳🎉😍
I love that it fits in my pocket. Think of it as a front pocket wallet. I used to hate having my big phone and my camera.
Love how it just fits !
I don't ever think the "flip" will ever outweigh the caveats that having the mechanism in a phone brings
Hi
@@Helo_WatchHi 👋
100%

You can use full apps on the flex window, you can even force all apps through Labs
@LukaCuturic this can be done with both phones, just assumabley better on the ZF5 due to the bigger screen. But because of its awkward shape it's hard to tell whether the apps being used on the cover screen is actually good.
In case you didn't know the regular moto RAZR comes out later this year and will be styled more like the 4 and will probably have the best battery of any flip phone
that's where I'm at too, the big screen is so ugly and pointless imo. what's the point of a flip phone at that point lol
plus aesthetically, doesn't leave much room for cute cases 😅
4:12 😢 No!
Yes!😁
YES!
I can always ALWAYS count on this guy for anything electronic!!!!
My Z flip 4 was the first phone I ever loved and actually worked like a smartphone but I think I'd rather have the four instead of the five just because the cover screen keeps me separated from social media just a little bit more so I much prefer it
Crazy how we've devolved from Nokia keypad phones to smart flip phones!
You mean devolved?
You mean devolve
Going from physical keyboard to virtual keyboard is devolving? I guess its for the better!
Would love to see this put head to head with the new Moto Razr 40/Razr 40 Ultra! Excited to see such new sleek foldables in the market
Yeah, I find it sad when everyone hates on Motorola, competition is a good thing for the continuing development of foldables!
This is probably one of the coolest phone I've ever had ...this is just so amazing....
Flip for life
Arun is the proof that SOME youtubers can get straight to the point
It's always a good day when this guy uploads, absolute amazing video quality, Never stop!
If there are good trade in deals, I'd say absolutely go for it
I think it js better to wait a year cause I feel like it isn't too much of an upgrade from the previous versions just the chip and the outer display, the outer display I will give it to you it is really good but like the amount of things that you can do is still limited I mean you have your whole phone right when you unfold
I feel like the purpose of the fold screen should be just to give you notifications and prevent you from sliding into social media by mistake cause you can do all the essential stuff like setting timers etc. Right on the small screen so there is no chance that you will just lose time through social media by mistake.
So I would suggest you to wait another year
I plan to wait till next August to get the 6th. I'm sure the 5 is amazing but I know the 6th would be even better
Yo, your sibling might be in these comments. I saw someone comment named Miller Miles.
If flip big upgrade iterations follows the Fold or S series, then their next big upgrade would be flip 6/7 unless they count flip 5 as a big upgrade just coz of the back screen. Hence, if i were u, i would wait for a year then decide to get the flip 5 or flip 6
A banger as always. The production quality increases every video.

9:27 Mac sitting with Samsung. yeah 🤣
I just love watching Arun's videos 😃
Recently, my outlook has changed and they actually do seem cool, that said I still wouldnt buy one
still a gimmick
@@bangedmybroyup, a costly gimmick
@@bangedmybroyou stole my comment, which i was abt to do 💀

Iphone fanboys be like, no its not an innovation, the only innovation there is in this world is apple iphones😂😂

Nice work! Great analysis. The use of screen space and applications for that space will be very interesting to follow. We're always interested in how features and content can be optimised for the screen spaces that are now available in smartphones. User behaviours, adoption of screen space, new apps/features, and the "statement effect" with these devices.
I can watch & comment on this video WHILE the phone is closed!! That is epic & I absolutely love this phone!! Great video, as always!!

The camera and battery is what is stopping form getting it. Now I'll keep my phone and get the 6 when it is released next july/August
Yall better get s23 ultra or wait for smthin like s24 ultra

I admit it, the fact why I am in love with those little Samsung Flip suckers, is just the novelty and cute form factor. I don't need the best camera or highest specs. There is nothing more to it than me thinking the form factor is the most adorable thing ever.

2:50 yeah, yeah yeah, we have a small screen, OK, we get it.
Mine's arriving next week. Super excited! ❤ good review!
