- Should you buy a Honda Element Camper (Ecamper) in 2019? Or should you maybe look at another camper van build out? In this video I'll talk about the three reasons you should buy the Honda Element ecamper and the three reasons you shouldn't. We'll talk about some of the alternatives like a VW camper van, the Jeep Wrangler pop top or even the new Ford Transit Connect with pop top build out!
If you're interested in the pop top definitely checkout Ursa Minor's website for all the different build outs and prices.

Wouldve been nice to see the inside of the poptop and explain how you get in there from inside and the bed situation.
I just drove my 2006 Element with 260k miles from California to Pennsylvania and Back to California. No check engine lights or any problems. Thanks Honda!!
I like the element, but the mpg is just awful for what it is. Might as well get a jeep.
The connect is awesome BUT finding one with a rear seat is next to impossible and when you do they're very expensive.
should change the title: My Face 2019.
I dig your energy and enthusiasm for the Element! Me and my lady are working on an eCamper right now. Early stages , but can’t wait to travel in it!
Btw do you have footage of what the inside of the car looks like? :o
Definitely do! Checkout the video linked in the last 5 seconds of this video call Honda Element Camper Conversion, it's a good walk through of the inside of the camper!
Loved the concept of this car. You're doing great and honest reviews. Kudos for that!
Appreciate it!
You nailed this video. And you now have a new sub. And yes, my vanagon was too expensive and continues to be a mechanical pain in my a$$.
I commute to SF in my Element 22 miles round trip back home. I get 19.5 mpg combined with freeway city driving. My best was mpg 23 mpg going to Monterey with ac turned on.
Great video! All good points regarding goods & bads.
I laughed so hard when you looked at girl on your left. Make you a better chef lol
Aww...I thought u were gona show me the inside..😣
Checkout my older video on the ecamper for a better look inside!
Can you do a review on Marianne’s fancy French range stove??!
No no I can't! 😂🤣
dang such an informative video! love that pop top!
I'm here to inform!!!
Well done, enjoying the creativity you are putting into the videos, keep it up 💪🤗
Really appreciate it!
Excellent video! Happy trails!
Great video! Awesome info!
Great video, very informative.
I need something like this. I love to explore new places and I’m using a Scion tC to sleep while intake beautiful videos.
Where can you get that popup tent it's not like you can go into a Honda dealership get one. Also what does your inside look like? I myself have a Black on Black with a STICK.
Ursa Minor Vehicles is the company that makes these! They have a couple different shops on the west coast. Checkout my other video on the car, I walk-through the inside of the pop top and show you the features!
I feel really dumb. I have an Element and I never knew you put the fuel cap there. I just went into my driveway and checked if mine does that and I can't believe I never noticed it.
I just bought one and literally just ordered a gas cap tether cord last night! Cancel that!
Interesting video. I sold a Ford Sportsmobile popup and bought an Element. I'm trying hard to like the Element but I really miss being able to stand up and walk around inside the vehicle. It's tempting to go for a Ursa conversion until I look at the price and wait time. I found a Freeway interior reasonable priced and it sort of works but not really. I guess I'd say the Element is good for one person, not so much for 2. Oh well.
When your keys got lock in. Why you didn't open the ecamper top and when from the inside roof compartment?
The release straps are inside the car. The latches outside are just additional protection.
@@RianSpaulding nice to know. Thanks. awesome video
Thanks
Awwww, you were in my neighborhood! Literally half a mile from my presidio apartment. Come back to SF soon!
Yeah I have a 03 and 5 spd element and vanagon. The element is cool but trust me the vanagon is way cooler I love them both!
Definitely! The vanagon is the dream!
I have the 03 MT 5 as well and love it! I want to buy another one just to have. Never saw a Vanagon. Really wish you did a closeup tour of the Element and Ecamper, it’s missing everywhere that I look.
Drop a turbo in it and some lifted skins. In mine, now I get 17 mpg, but FAST. I get camping before everyone and sleep whenever, cause now I live in my car too, since my mom threw me out.
Thinking about one for a weekend car to haul my bike , car camp b4 a trail run .
It's perfect for that!!
I drove from Sylmar to riverside in 45 min at 90 to 110 miles and hour at 2am full tank and its was a little more that a 80 plus mile trip and back and then almost at empty when i got back. so i would say 1 full tank gets u 170 miles.
Yo these are DOPE
yoo. your vlogs are pretty dope man! The honda Element might be a cheaper option for myself instead of buying a Mercedes Sprinter. I also live in SF, do you have a hard time parking your car?
Thanks! Not too bad to park. The sprinter will definitely be harder to park but would give you more space.
I got really excited at 1st when I saw the title because I thought it said "Should you buy a Honda Element 2019"
I guess that's my fault for being hopeful that Honda would remake it lol
I wish I could make that video!
why spend $30k on a new one, when you can get a used for $4k?
@@04dram04 They don't make Honda Elements anymore. I was just saying I misread the title of the video. Even if they did make a new Honda Element that costed 30k, I'd still get something cheaper lol
simple and great advice at the beginning :D things do not change people. people do not change.
❤️
Why are many complaining about the MPG? 22 is pretty good compared to pickup trucks and SUV’s.
I agree... I'm getting rid of my pickup and looking for something that's better on fuel. Going from a truck that gets 10mpg to a 22mpg suv will tremendously help my wallet
Trucks are getting 25+ now
@@buck19 yeah I know right🤣 lmao these idiots have no idea what they are talking about
Two questions: What wheels are those? I have an '06 with steel wheels and have been thinking about swapping them out for some alloys.
You're in the City? Umm...let's start a SF-Element club! Climbing trip to Castle Rock anyone?
The concept is great, but...it’s a Honda Element, which is good and bad. The good is the basic utility of the vehicle. Muddy shoes? No problem - just rinse it out with a hose. The quite bad, to me, is the utility of the vehicle does away with road trip creature comforts. Hondas are known for transmitting road noise, and the Element is one of the worst in Honda’s lineup. So, spartan and utility comes at a price. Weekend trips close to home? Good rig for that. Long road trips requiring hours in the rig? Not the best rig for that.
I love, love the concept. A viable alternative is a rooftop tent; many choice options now. Not quite as convenient as the Ecamper, but conceptually not too dissimilar and one can mount it on a more road-friendly vehicle.
Just a few thoughts..
Hi there! Just found you in UA-cam Land while researching this vehicle. I like your style. Good info in this video. New subby right here. :0) I am currently looking for one to buy. I want to drive across the country. I'm living in a 2 story 3 bedroom house but my 2 son's are grown and long moved away. After my marriage fell apart I became a single mother and I've always had an itch to just "get away from it all". I was enrolled at a college in Pennsylvania set to be a flight attendant when I was young. I was going to travel the world on my job.
Unfortunately I was a passenger in a terrible car accident that took the lives of my childhood best friend and her sister when I was just 18 years old. I have had years of surgeries and medical care. That's all behind me now. I am longing to hit the road! I sure hope I can find a decent one to help me finally get to do some much needed traveling.
Where do you usually park to sleep?
I don't live in the vehicle. It's my daily driver and weekender(road trips, camping etc.)
It would have been nice to know how the camper functions like how to climb imside, do you need a sunroof or ladder?...
Way to much face time!...
Checkout my Honda Element Camper Conversion video for those details. This wasn't really meant to be a review video.
oof, ok. That was actually quite helpful.
Glad I could help!
Don't count on 30mpg with the Connect... We have one at work and I love it but empty it gets maybe 23mpg mixed around the Bay Area, and like 18mpg with anything more than 100lbs in the back.
Wow, good to know!
I L O V E the music choice at the beginning.
Thanks for checking it out!
Love the Honda Element.
The intro deserves an Oscar. And i’m getting a Honda Element camper
Oscar 🐝🐝😂😂
Melissa M just picked up a Honda Element w/ECamper...haven’t slept/camped in it yet; but family & I are soOoo looking forward to our mini-adventures!!
Where do you buy the roof top camper?
A company called Ursa Minor Vehicles!
@@RianSpaulding does it have to be done at one of their locations on the west coast? Asking as someone from the east coast
Thanks! Can you tell me how tall the vehicle is with the Ecamper on top? I have a garage door that is only 6' feet tall. I'm guessing it's over 6' Thanks
Yup it's over 6 feet. About 76 inches exactly.
Where did you get the “sorry it’s been declined” clip? That’s my friend!
Just set those little bits up myself and the guys were good sports! A couple of my favorite coffee places!
@@RianSpaulding that’s fun! Loved seeing this little surprise ha
Really informative! I loved the video of the inside of the car. I am being facetious.😠
How the heck did you lock your key in?
Living in San Francisco you learn to lock your car very quickly.... sometimes too quickly. 😂🤣
@@RianSpaulding - I ve owned an Element for nearly 10 years here in the bay area, have never locked my keys in the car, ever. I have with other cars, but Element makes a huge fuss when you leave em in the ignition and won't lock if you do.
@@F1lmtwit yeah very true, mine were unfortunately left on the seat.
whats point of pop up? you dont sleep on top, very good video. i am 610th subscriber
Thanks for watching! You do actually sleep on top of the car, and then have the main area of car for storage or seating or whatever you need!
Great vid! Just got one in highschool! 😁
perfect car to hook up in, in high school ;)
Enjoyed your blogs, Don’t see much anymore, have you retired?, best wishes, Jake 07 lx 155 k Element
I like the car but prices are tooooo higghhhhh right now. It is to crazy spend thousands for old cars. Hope things get better but I don’t see the light.
Why didn't you show the interior???
Instead of the cute interjections of which 1 or 2 are ok (but more NOT.)..show the inside!!!!! Appreciated you noted other vehicles with pop tops and did quick comparisons.
New sub
Who installed your pop top
I have an Element
So while he was making this video he locked himself.. couldn't you just go through the pop top?
Lol the donut marks in the background. Hyphy movement staying strong I see
not even 30 seconds of footage of the inside or how to turn it into a camper..
Do you live in the city?
I have an 07 with 130k, love it, !!
Best wishes, Jake
I do!
Anyone interested. I got one listed on eBay just now. 2004 EX AWD plus custom furniture
Inside...???
Thanks for checking it out! Take a look at the video linked at the of the video for more of a walkthrough.
He never showed off the pop top or the specs what the fuck
I want Honda to make a cargo van. I am a Honda person and want a van so I can convert it. I just don’t trust Ford or Dodge.
transit connects are unreliable as shit tho
The fact that the tent costs 5-6k is fkn ridiculous...
It actually STARTS at $6500. Up to $10k with all options.
Like he said, compare it's finished price ( $11-13k) to some other van/suv-based camper to make price easier to digest.
@Andrew nailed it! But still a lot of money for sure.
What, no tour?
Hey checkout the video linked at the end of the video for a walkthrough of the ecamper.
U didn't even show the thing thumbs down sorry
I’ve had a Honda Element for about four years now and the build quality makes me want to kill myself every day, I hate this plastic box 😀
😂
It is the pop top I get 30 mpgs on my element
Why didn’t you show us the interior of the camper? DuH we didn’t want to. See only you, nice as you may be, not a very good or useful video,
Wish we could see the car instead of your face through out the entire video
dont waste your time.
this video contains 95% of his face and some 0.5% of the car..
Its too bad he didn't show what the vehicle could do - the only thing he did was give his opinon and listen to himself talk. What a waste.
