ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you.
Ah yes 1989. When you can't quite tell if something is late 80's or early 90's. Perfect.
I think this every time i listen to Pretty Hate Machine.
That bass line can cure cancer.
ahahahahaaaaaaa, probably !!
It’s Billy Gould; can we expect anything less?
Stéfano Calderón Fkn A bro!!!
brother funk pop punk rock can always cure anything!
Lifted from Dr. Royal Rife, with his express permission to do so to the Rockesmeller/Illuminaki cancer industry...;)
This was the perfect example that rock/metal doesn't have to be dark and angry all the time.
It could be weird, colourful yet still heavy af at the same time.
And it could be fun
You mean this was Faith No more?
Cannibal corpse is fun and colorful also
"You ever fall asleep on acid? That is our music video."
You talkin about the video or the lyrics? Cause the lyrics are pretty depressing...
It's 2022 and this band is still charming as it used to be.
you mean 2022 right?
No it’s not.
It's now 2023 and they still stand out

Two of my granddaughters walked in while I was rockin this and said “Pa, you listen to some crazy stuff”😂🤣 ✌️
Adam Brunton I’m turning them on to the good stuff🤣✌️
B P I’ve been there for a while bro. The “new” stuff is garbage!! I have four daughters and they are all into the classic rock scene, so I must be doing something right 👊✌️
If they thought this was crazy, they should've heard Frank Zappa. That'd be a trip for them 🤣

The fact that it's over 25 years old & still rocks is a testament to how awesome & timeless this band is.

It's like a cycle, that scene repeat again and again every time I listen to this song!

I think they tried to use Welcome to the Jungle and it got "shot down" prior to production
Well thank God they had to change the song

This bands success surely owes a lot to Mike Patton's sense of humour, as well as his energy. What a frontman!
Indeed his energy, one of best live concert experiences
I'd have given anything to have been a teenager in the 80's because of these ❤️
Or Chuck Mosley who actually went to better bands like bad brains
@@mikehesse4095 you can't honestly say that chuck mosley was better than Mike Patton... Or that bad brains were anywhere near the level of faith no more??? Bad brains were a shambles dude....
a top tier sarcasm
Rap and nu metal cannot be understood without Faith no more. They were the basis of the model that saved rock in the 90's
Chili peppers were doing it before them. That was the whole thing with these 2 bands back then and the rivalry between them. People were calling FNM a ripoff of them and maybe they were in some ways but they were definitely more of a hard rock band than the chili peppers were. Metal at times and chili peppers never were that heavy. So they definitely were different.
@@trenken
RHCP started as a fusion between funk and rap, nothing new, other bands did it before, they simply gave it their style and then in the 90's they noticed that the FNM formula worked and that many bands began to be influenced by them. What I mean is that FNM was more influential in the growth of music in the 90's. Especially in the second half.
What I say is a verifiable reality and also my comment is very clear about what genre was born based on what FNM did.
Hard and glam rock barely touched the 90's, and we all know what happened to Guns And Roses, on the other hand bands like Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, etc... became old-fashioned for many young people before starting the second half of the 90's. Not to mention how the grounge crashed as well before the second half of the 90's. The most direct influence on the way bands that emerged in the second half of the 90's played instruments and even sang was FNM.
I give an example: The greatest influence of the members of Korn (said by them) has been FMN. Jonathan Davis and various singers have taken up the nasal way of singing that Mike Patton used on The Real Thing and Angel Dust albums.
FNM was the bridge between rap metal and nu metal and without that musical style, metal would have had a very difficult time in the 90's and early 2000's. Everything generated later is a direct consequence of what FNM started.
Another thing, the cool style of 90's rock and metal we owe to the master Rick Rubin who indirectly worked with FNM on The Real Thing thanks to his friendship with FNM guitarist Jim Martin. Years later he produced albums with RHCP...
Grunge saved 90s rock n roll
@@Hamlet2085 Patton didn't sing nasal on AD.
@@mikespearwood3914 Of course he did, on most of the album but especially on Everything's Ruined and A Small Victory. He generally does it on almost every Angel Dust song. You just have to pay a little attention.

Lyrics:
Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed
Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
But I know, there's a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens....
Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together
Layin' face down on the ground
My fingers in my ears to block the sound
My eyes shut tight to avoid the sign
Anticipating the end, losing the will to fight
Droplets of "yes" and "no"
In an ocean of "maybe"
From the bottom, it looks like a steep incline
From the top, another downhill slope of mine
But I know, the equilibrium's there
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens
Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together
Brilliant lyrics. This group should be in R&R Hall of Fame
Well copied and pasted 😂
Please Mike... put the pieces together... stay safe and get well🍀 wishing you well
The only thing I had, and still have, a hard time understanding is when he says: "No one listens". cause it sounds like something extra than just listen. If it was not for the lyrics, I would never guess. hhahaha

I had the biggest crush on Mike Patton in Jr. High. I bought this CD and played this song at least twice a day. Ah flashbacks.
I was 11 years old when I found out I won a week long , all expenses paid trip to Old Quebec City , Quebec for an essay I wrote in 7th grade. I hadn't quite got into music yet or found my groove at that age, especially growing up in rural Bad Axe, Michigan. Anyways, when it cam3 time for me to leave , I had to accompany the High School French class . Everyone at least 4 to 5 yrs older than me n I was only one going w them. No seniors were gonna Wana chat up or hang out with the tag along shy 7th grader. The bus ride was supposed to be 13 to 14 hrs to Quebec.....I had a couple books n my clothes. No music, no friends, never having left my small rural country town, i almost didnt go. My older sister surprised me the night b4 I left with a brand new walkman and about 14-15 cassette tapes from her boyfriends car. Never heard of FNM or most the other bands, but it was the 1st tape I put in as the greyhound bus pulled Away from Bad Axe Hjgh Parking lot at 3am. The next 7 days I spent in Old Quebec City overlooking the St. Lawrence Seaway like it was a dream world (our hotel was an ancient castle that had been restored) Everything was like something out of a fictional tale. I never even looked at those other cassettes in my bitchin fanny pack. Faith No More the real thing, Was the only tape or muwe're music I listen to That whole week. After A-day and a 1/2 and you every song by heart. I was fucking hooked. That cassette tape/Albun launched what became the start of a massive addiction to all things Rock, punk, metal, etc. I am 45 now and still a hard-core headbanging bitch. Faith No More my fav band and so are all Mike's side projects/gigs/bands. Graduation day in 1995 , walking off stage with my diploma, and throwin up devil horns, I yelled 'I'm gonna make Mike Patton my bitch" (my family was mortified 🤣🤘
I often wonder what my life would be , or music id discover, had my sis never got me that walkman and her bfs tapes for that 1989 Quebec trip. (We grew up on rural farm, no cable TV, mostly only A.M. radio Stations avail)
@@kathleenlittle758first of all, thanks for the great story! I mean it! I love reading stuff like this. There are sometimes those who will poke fun at posts like this. Fuck ‘em. If social media is to be a form of communication, then this is one of its highest uses.
It was really charming, though, and well written. I could almost see that scared kid on the bus with all those high schoolers. If any one of them found you listening to what you were, they might have realized what a little badass you were.
Secondly, what an amazing older sister! I’m an older brother and tried to do the same for my brother who is six years younger. Today he’s a professional musician and I couldn’t be prouder.
Lastly, FNM are one of the coolest bands of all time. I get kind of annoyed with all the Nu Metal comparisons and stuff. I guess I can see where folks are coming from, but I think they’re in a league all their own. They sound like no one. Completely unique. They took big risks. They were true artists with their music. I really love and respect them for that. This album in particular, though. Phenomenal. The Real Thing is my personal favorite. One of the most powerful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. Inspires and motivates me still, after 30+ years.
