Let's check out this INCREDIBLE subwoofer/box combo recently sent to me. The box itself was created out of 3/4" acrylic, which is insanely expensive. You have most likely seen Gately Audio boxes shown off recently by Steve Meade. Gately makes custom boxes and has some "custom prefab" boxes available for sale on Sky High Car Audio and other places. The Lord of Bass offers speaker parts and is also planning on offering kits so you can build your own sub (just like this one if you want). My 21" is built but Ken Brown with Lord of Bass/Ultra Audio parts. Gately Audio is a fairly local shop to me, he really does some amazing work. I have talked to Mr. Gately a few times, very cool down to earth person.

That box is so incredibly beautiful!!! Bobby Gately is the box building GOAT. I can only dream of owning a Gately built box. His birch boxes are so beautiful and what he does with acrylic is beyond beautiful.

I had one sealed. It was unfortunately underpowered in my setup, but it would hit for what I was feeding it.
Prob all the DC Audio and Sundown fan boys hating. If you're truly old school then u was up with the kappa perfect sub. Excellent sq and perfect for demos.
I was thinking of getting a few kappa 12 or jl 12v3 which would be the better choice in everyone's opinion? Sealed box running a rd900/5 jl amp. Want something that sounds good but also hits when wanted.
I still rock (2) 12 reference series infinity from the 1999 line up in my home theater set up retired from the car to my home love them great sound on only 250 watts rms each subwoofer

That thing is just rediculous beautiful!!! I've seen some amazing Gately boxes, but DAMN!!! I just finished a 4th order blow through for my Avalanche, and i REALLY took my time with it. 2 plexi panels, chromed steel inner bracing, every edge rounded ( not one right angle or sharp corner anywhere on the exterior), 100% hidden led lighting.... IT'S NOW A FINGER PAINTING NEXT TO A MONET! Seriously i'm extremely proud of it, but damn that thing is gorgeous!!!

Great pics because it's not in the truck yet. I've got 2 Sundown X12v.2 D4s in it. Saving up to get a SCV4000 & a Mechman to power them, but it's going to take a while on a disability income. Been a long time since i was an installer & did some cool fabs, but i'm more proud of this box than anything i've ever done. I'd really appreciate some feedback from a true professional. Clean looking box, i just happened to be casting to my tv, and had my old school onkyo receiver blasting for the demo. My walls were rattling. Floor standing techincs 10" w/ mids, Bowers& wilkins bookshelf speakers and a polk audio ps100 powered sub.

That’s a bombass box! Impressive, especially in an L acrylic. Try it guys. Same thickness and dimensions. Done in L acrylic would be worth a try. When you hear it in L acrylic, you will understand. All I can say without violating all kinds of protocols and proprietary rules. Try it in a sealed enclosure if you really want to see if your assembly skills are up to it! Later!
Master Class equipment gentlemen. Not only respect, envy, covet, salivation.... This is a must for showcasing the functions and quality that should be present in any pro-level installations. I am pleased to have seen it on video, but would really like to own one of each size, from 8-15" with variables that could be altered per speaker specs. A solid color with some sort of slide-mounted piece to modify parameters would be perfect for future designs and installation examples for customers to not only see, but hear.
Not easily impressed, but, am - blown down.

Idk why everyone hates on the Infinity. It's perfect for what you use it for. high sensitivity, and can handle some power when you need it to. that new box is sweet though

@@wal I remember being back in high school and a buddy of mine restored a mustang with his Dad and was going to put a system in it centered around the infinity perfect. I was the guy with 2 12's or 4 10's so I immediately scoffed it off as weak. It blew me away the sound he was getting from that one 12 off ~400watts or so.
That is sick! Meade916 has been using their box's as of late. Instead of building his own.

Plexiglass is the best material to make your subwoofer box out of than using mdf or any kind of wood because no air leaks from the enclosure and the bass is deep if it's a sealed enclosure then it's air tight but if it's ported then air only comes out of the port because the enclosure is air tight and there are no air leaks at all definitely would give gately audio a thumbs up for that because plexiglass is better than using mdf or wood

That 120 Rockford amp is stable to a .5 ohm load ,which will not clip at peak output of 250w per channel . also capable of running stereo&mono at same time!

@@rob22849 Yeah, he commented on Facebook about the cost. The material itself is very expensive and it takes a special skill to make a box like this. And the fit of the sub is just PERFECT! These guys are professionals for sure!!

Just was browsing Gately's sub boxes for sale 2 days ago and this one was sick, def caught my eye when looking at his page. NIce to see a review!
Enclosure density is very important for subwoofers. Plexiglass has to have a harder density then mdf. The more sturdy a enclosure is. The more solid and smoother the sound waves will be. Resulting in less coloration of sound, more bass accuracy and an increase in db. Every db counts in spl. I think that they make a hardness gauge to measure the hardness of materials. Should get one and test it on mdf then test it on plexiglass to see witch one is harder. Off the top of my head I imagine plexiglass working great if used correctly. Plus the adding led lights definitely makes it look cool.

So I was going to make a 3/4 inch thick subwoofer box with a LS7 kicker subwoofer and was wondering if the plexiglass box distorts the sound that’s the one thing I’ve been worrying about. I bought the sub in a kicker box that was made for the sub but when I went to put it in the trunk of my Hyundai Genesis it was exactly 2 inches to big and decided I would make my own box. I thought of doing the same thing with the LED lights. This is the first video I’ve seen with a pure plexiglass subwoofer box. The subwoofer I have is rated 1500 watts 750 RMS @2 ohm. I figured if I am going to build it go big or go home. Then the wheels started turning once I couldn’t find anything about a pure plexiglass box and then I found this video. So is there a reason that most boxes are made from high density fiber board? I figured it was to absorb the sound and help push it into the car. So I started thinking wouldn’t the sound be better if the box was solid. Thanks for any input on this. liked and subscribed!

When working with Acrylic or Polycarbonate, always use nutserts. Clamping threads through poly or acrylic will form cracking, either right away or over time. To drill before inserting a nutsert, use a drill in reverse to melt it's way through without cracking. 20 years experience in Poly fab.

I have an all plexiglass sub box also. It's impossible to keep clean in an a daily driver. But it's still beautiful. Mines I was told was a cost of $600 just for the plexiglass alone. And that's what I paid with a free 12in JBL MKII.

Put 4 12s in a sealed box in the rear of an extended cab s10 once..pioneer head unit and 700 watt amp. Had about $500 in entire system. You couldn't crank the volume and stay in the truck. Can't imagine the money in high end systems nowadays.

20-25mm thick cast acrylic is the best material for subwoofer enclosures. Its a lot more expensive and much denser/heavier but far superior than anything else.

He told you $2500?! Damn, man.. Some serious labor costs. I could pick up a few sheets of 3/4" Acrylic, a few heat guns, and a few tubes of acrylic bonding cement, and it would NOT cost me $2500.. I could recreate that box for a little less than a grand, and it wouldn't take $1500 worth of my time to do it either. This is exactly why I do or build things myself whenever I can and don't buy into 100-150% markups on products like this. I don't have anything wrong with them trying to make money, they're running a business, just saying, it could be done for a lot less if you're a DIY kinda guy lol.

you should make a video on what makes one base driver handle so much power and another one can't. what does the 1000 watt driver have that that the 100 watt driver doesn't? or do you have one already?
2500 bucks! you can blow me! I use to use plexiglass all the time in when I worked for a company doing high end aircraft interiors. 3/4” plexiglass isn’t cheap that I admit. I just looked up what a 4 foot x 8 foot piece from a couple distributors online. Depending if you want tinted clear with shipping was around 500-600 bucks roughly. But you can buy exactly what you need to your exact specifications. There are some pro’s and con’s for building with plexiglass. A pro is you can have one continuous piece. If you start at the back inside of the port and using a form or a template clamp the piece to your form. Here is another pro/con you have to heat the plexiglass in order to bend it. This does take a little skill because if you make it too hot it can deform and haze on you. Forget trying to sand that out! But you can make nice radius’d corners. Remember subwoofers really don’t like corners the perfect box would actually be a ball cut in in half but that’s another post. You would continue up through the inside length of the port make another bend across the face, then the side, bend now the back, bend and finish up on the where you started now you have your port, front, right side, back, and left side. Now cut 2 identical piece for the top and bottom. You will want to check each bend because what can happen depending on the sharpness of the bend it can cause flare out or squeeze out whatever you want to call it. That will need to be sanded down and polished but doesn’t take too long since it usually a small spot. Once you have glued on your top and bottom cut out your sub opening, drill a couple holes for your speaker connections. I estimate building one at the very very most is 4 hours of labor. Actual material costs I would put at 350, 100 bucks an hour for template and box building 400 bucks. Even if you double my estimates you are still half of what they are claiming the cost is.
Great info! As with most things it’s what something is worth to the buyer. I don’t think Gately charges 2500 for these boxes but he was estimating materials plus his time. They also laser cut the logos into the top piece of plexi. Thanks for the detailed response though, I appreciate it 👌
That box is sick. There are a some high power amplifier clones from china that i would love to see how they stack up. Life of bliss just purchased a Sinbosen FP20000Q that supposedly puts out 18kw. i would be curious to see how powerful it really is.

Its a cool box but I just couldn’t spend 2k for a box I got mine for free with purchase of a 10w7 for $200
But I will say that box has great craftsmanship I would rock it forsure tho you could throw some lights and have a color matching lit up ride

LEX HTFD,CT I know what you mean, I’m not saying my sub is louder than anyone’s cause it doesn’t really matter to me like that but for the price for price I can’t justify multiple 1,000s for a box that will never see a comp lol my amp is a 1200 mono but probably only puts a true 500 watts to the 3 ohm sub but we’re not entering anything for shows unless it’s something I just gotta have I just build my own box to spec usually I got lucky with my deal for $200 the dude just didn’t want to install it in his new suv or was upgrading either way, a deals a deal lol $400 isn’t bad either shoot still Do able, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but money in my pocket is even better along with beauty haha
