My Grandfather was Lieutenant Commander of landing craft 159 in the Dunkirk Landings. At the end of the war, the ship was on Loch Ewe in Scotland. My mum was christened by the Naval Chaplain using the ship's upturned bell, a Royal Naval tradition for officer's families.

I am truly glad to see this. So many historical artifacts have been lost that should have been preserved. HMS Warspite immediately comes to mind along with both USS Enterprise’s.

My Dad was on Hunt Class Destroyers which were difficult at times, but he allways mentioned with respect the Captains of the landing craft on D-day.

Will be interesting to see how that fairs with the side being open to the sea, with all it's salt and the wind shotblasting her.

Great to see that another icon of Naval History has been saved. But how are you going to preserve her in the open environment that you have her in at Southsea with the sea so close. Having served in the Portsmouth area with FAA at Daedalus, at various period of my know finished Naval Career. That area can get battered by some horrendous storms. Which causes the sea to crash onto the shore lines, of the area causing the sea to swamp everything in its path.

Hello! Thanks for your comment. The landing craft is well set back from the shore line, and protected by both the sea wall a brick wall and an enclosure/cover. We hope this helps! ^SF

Not sure why this film/video was not released back in 2020 when it was moved and installed in its current location vs 12 days ago?
