bit sad Flip was decommissioned. Unless it was very broken, I’m sure it’d have been useful enough to keep in service, you know scientists, they’d have thought of some weird use for it lol
I'm quite afraid of open waters. My question, how terrifying is the process of turning the vessel? Is it like a sinking ship simulation? How was the feeling of the first time it "flipped"? What kind of training did you experience before going on your first operation? Kudos to you, bet there are a hell of great stories from your work!
FLIP was unfortunately taken out of service in 2023 due to it's age and too high maintenance costs. It's currently sitting in a shipyard in mexico waiting to be scrapped.
I saw this posted somewhere and had to hunt down a video because I needed to know what was done with fixed furniture and plumbing. Knowing some furniture could be converted over or that they actually had two sinks was highly satisfying,
Such a great example of human creativity and our capacity to solve problems, I learned that many of these are already decommissioned which is sad, these beauties are awesome!
The scale of construction made possible for ships at sea is truly astonishing. We have not even begun to reach the potential sizes we could eventually have. It is inspiring to see such unique and clever methods being developed! It is not often we can look toward future developments with such wonder and imagination!
@@CraFtoReklol that’s all fine and good, I love when they give both units of measurement. But in this case, 12 meters= about 39 feet.. 23 feet= about 7 meters, the math isn’t mathing 😂

It's annoying that you keep switching back and forth between US and metric units, sometimes in the same sentence. Just pick one and go with it. And brief transitions between segments would help viewing pleasure.
It's funny, the first time I became aware of a ship like this was the Netflix anime 7 Seeds. I thought it was just made up. Found out later it was a real concept.
Not entirely true. She sits in Ensenada Mexico still in one piece with hopes of having a second life. Possibly that some company is interested in overhauling her. Stay tuned
0:15 yeah? But can the make it under the Francis Scott Key bridge without taking out the whole damn thing amd forcing us to look at the Mayor in his pedo varsity jacket?
I worked on Flip for 8 years and was on her last expedition. Truly one of a kind. A tree house one the water.
What kind of work did you do on the Flip? Was it scary when it started sinking/flipping?

Such a bizarre and unlikely shape

Just saw this on Facebook and thought it was bullshit. It's not bullshit...
Lol I think you saw the same thing I just saw on FB! 😂
Yea me too, and I thought it was bullshit
😂 yeah me too
I just saw it too 😂 and now we're are all here
Same!!

like everything else in the US
@@itoibo4208everything is being scrapped by mexicans?

It should be in a museum or parts of it
Never knew it existed until 5 minutes ago
U find that Twitter post too?
Facebook for me

@@CoDGAM3RRRxI found it on a FB post
This thing is weirdly terrifying to me
An insane piece of engineering

Haha.. same here 👍
Me too lol@@shibanshughosh573

Older than me and I just heard of it. FLIPing amazing x
Such a great example of human creativity and our capacity to solve problems, I learned that many of these are already decommissioned which is sad, these beauties are awesome!
I remember the Jacques Cousteau show in the 1960’s and dedicating a show to flip.
I knew I saw this somewhere when I was a kid! Thanks.
I can't even fathom the type of engineering involved in designing this
Thanks for this. As soon as i saw what a flip ship was i needed and answer. The rest of this video was very interesting too.
I'm here for the Facebook after party!! 🥳 lol but cool, bc now i'm a believer 🙌🏽
whoever designed this ship was a madman to go against the traditional norms of boats and ships
I thought they would have chairs on the wall 😂. I'd love to see more interior footage
...I'm amazed on how it flip vertical and not totally go down below the sea...
This is almost unbelievable, but there we have it, amazing
Please tell me that the crew members are called Flippers.
Why do so many people still use Facebook
Why not? Many of us still use email addresses older than the Facebook itself, so?
My email doesn't sell my data and doesn't actively spy on me
@@Nubby007 Oh yeah... Of course they don't 🤭.
Why people use X (eye roll) is the bigger question. But the answer to both is in the questions, people.
The same reason they still vote blue, they are old and out of touch with reality. Forgive them they don’t know better 😢

The immense scale of huge ships scares the shit out of me. Almost as much as the ocean itself!
This is the ship that Soma got its inspiration for the MS Curie from.
8:08 "at 23 feet long, this 12 metre sub features..." - I give up

I just looked it up, the FLIP is actually 355 feet (108 meters) 😂😂
How does it anchor or does it just float around with the currents?
Who else is here from Facebook 😅🙋♂️

I don't have Facebook and haven't since like 10 years now. What an attention seeking shit website it is.
Are there more than just the one FLIP ship? Or was it a sole vessel?
An amazing concept and ship....well done. : )
Need is indeed the Mother of Invention.
I remember seeing something like Sea Shadow in that James Bond moovie, didn't knew that it was real
I swear the dutch are the greatest engineers on the planet
I still don’t believe this is real after watching this video 😂
Now you know how flat earthers think lmao
It's real. I was stationed in San Diego and I saw it. My oceanography teacher also briefly worked on it.
12:10 not anymore,it looked a mess when it was seen back along with panels falling off
Reminds me of trees in a flooded area floating, standing upright near the top of the water, then dropping to the bottom, oxygen distribution.
Finally i found my floater for kraken fishing
Did I just watch a boscalis commercial?
is this one of those videos where you just play random videos while reading the wiki page?
So its the boat from the anime 7 seeds...is that why we didnt get season 3?
Nice, at both orientations i can see the toilet at eye level.
Human engineering is amazing..

This is insane. How did someone sell this idea?
It’s the sideways toilet for me 😂
Brilliance
Is it built extra strong on the lower portion in case of hitting the bottom?
Aint no bottom in the deep sea to hit
At first I read the fb post wrong. Thought it was built for when the ship sinks on accident
The Curie from Soma (game) was the same concept as flip.
So it is not just me who saw this in Facebook and didn't believe it initially and came here to see whether it actually exists or not

True crime. Too bad no one will care enough when the time comes to say "I told you so".
Are you a bot or just commenting on the wrong video?
I wonder how often the coastguard gets calls about a ship in distress? 😂

Cool video, but that ship cannot drill through the crust
This thing is pretty old theses days I can’t believe it’s still in operation
it's not.
was decomissioned and scrapped in 2023
I imagine every ship can do this once.
Thank you !
it is not a ship, it is a research instrument
You don’t want to forget to flush the toilet on that vessel.

That's a good buoy.

saw this at FB.. great info for the day
The narrator sounds Irish! Cool! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
not sure about that since I lived in Ireland for some 10 years
Omg what a cool thing wow
I am Irish and in my fifties.
I know, it really is cool to be Irish. Unlike so many nationalities who are disliked! Love Ya!
We worked on scripps new pier and got a chance to see this dock. It was cool seeing it come in
"flip" and "invert" are incorrect.
But imagine if someone forgot to flush the toilet before the ship inverted.
23 feet 12 meters ship HOW❓
Tony Hawk's ship
Why?
If you watch the video you might find out.
8:59 LOL
Imagine forgetting to flush 💀

The title should imply that the video is about more then the RP FLip, you're not doing yourselves any favor here.
Neat

why do you spend so much of the video not talking
