I tend to use the square inch method because I like to calculate the cost of the materials and years of experience in the art field. The "Buzz" factor is true and that's why I promote the even before it's complete so when the public sees it, they will have a better understanding of the meaning of the painting and some people bond to that meaning which causes an auction bidding frenzy.

Great advice! Right now, I price mine by hours. Like…roughly how many hours do I think it will take plus materials. Then I give myself an hourly rate. I like the square inch method but it’s bitten me before on commissions because folks will want to try to squeeze a painting of 5 people onto an 8x10 canvas and I have to explain why that doesn’t work. I love your advice and content, it’s very practical. Just found you yesterday!!

Yay! Welcome! I'm so glad you found this helpful! Hourly is definitely another common pricing technique. Ultimately if it works and you feel comfortable with it, than keep at it :D
