I use Kazrog True Iron all the time. The piano setting is ridiculous. It adds both presence and depth that makes you feel like you're sitting on the piano bench.
I'm a huge Sascha Eversmeier fan and think that VariVerb is the best Reverb vst around...
@@edkrausmixengineer You certainly can't go wrong with that VST. Another one for me is Neold's Big Al. It does something magical to tracks and buses.
Softube's Tape and Kit's BB N105 V2.
On all of my template tracks.
My go to plugins would be the Oxford Inflator on the master bus, Struder A800 on sub mix busses and a Zener Limiter and Pultec EQP1A on my drum bus. The SSL E channel strips are also great on kick and snare.
Soothe is a gamechanger for experimenting with physical modeling synthesis which always produces resonances that were hard to eq.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
💯
That plugin is great and the vocalist is awesome! What a beautiful voice!
Thanks Michael!
Chills down my spine over the vocalist and the sonic luxury of your mixing.
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much
@@Producelikeapro my very pleasure. Thank you for all the marvelous content and knowledge.
I hate UA-cam compression. Difficult to really hear the subtle differences in some cases. Love that you provide multitracks....I need to get a demo of the plugin and try it out myself.
Damn! What an amazing vocalist:) The fluidity and control passing through the register is extremely difficult to master. Breath and placement is spot on. Wow!
Thanks for this! You brought it back to my mind. Now it will be interesting to compare this against eventide's split eq.
I love your videos. You explain everything really well and you can tell that you have a passion for recorded sound. Please keep them coming.
Thanks ever so much!
First time I've checked out an artist from one of these demonstration vids. Stunning job Warren.
Wow!! Thanks ever so much John
Thanks for the vid. I bought both Soothe and Spiff some time ago. Using Soothe with great satisfaction but never focused on Spiff. Now I have some guide lines to go on Spiff too. Ty!
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
I love my Soothe 2. Looking forward to trying out Spiff soon after watching this video.
Thanks heaps 🙏🏽
Thanks Nathan!
Great video! You really show how to use Spiff to get some great results.
Thanks ever so much!
Great video Warren. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks ever so much!
Ooh I need this! Clarity Vx is a new fav despite not being m1 native yet.
It's magic, it's great for bringing transients back into a sound after heavy compression with fast attacks. It's special
Marvellous!
That singer sounds absolutely incredible!
Thanks ever so much Danny!
Soothe is a total must-have, there’s a reason everyone is crazy about it. Huge time-saver; all that time with narrow dynamic EQ bands, notching out problem frequencies in localized audio regions, huge headache. Spiff, i’ve been using he Neutron transient shaper, which gives you multiple bands… but after seeing this, seems like Spiff might be another good tool for that.
Very well said! We love Soothe 2
Vital, Surge and Nova TDR but I always loved how Spiff works amazing on vocals in many of its tutorial videos...
Vital is ❤
Nova is underrated,excellent plugins
Thanks for sharing Reuben!
Schepps Omni channel is amazing. My goto channel strip for at least a year. Gullfoss too thanks to your review. ! Thanks as always for the great content.
Its very powerful and sound great
Thanks for sharing! We love Omni Channel!
@@Rhuggins Thanks ever so much!
Great uses! At 30:17 that example using as a enhancer on parallel (Parallel Spiff!) is he using linear or minimum phase? Thanks so much!
Did a mix from these tracks. It's in my video area.
Thanks for the opportunity to learn from them.
Yes, I used Spiff!
very versatile plugin! great video, thanks Warren!
Hi Willem! Glad you like it!
I've been using spiff on almost anything! I love it especially for rap vocals and dealing with harsh picking on guitars!
Edit: BTW I won my Spiff on Warren's first giveaway of this plugin!
The presets are really helpful as well. I've used the preset for reducing lip smacks and it worked like a charm. It also works beautifully as a tone shaper especially for acoustic guitars.
Thanks ever so much for sharing Angel!
Lovely vocals. I enjoyed Spiff most on the piano sound actually. I don't work with vocals, well almost never but when it comes time to do so I will buy Oeksounds gear for sure. Thanks guys.
LOL Having just watched Matt's contribution I see that I could use Spiff all over my mix!!
Marvellous! Thanks Pat!
I own soothe 2 and love it. Wouldn’t mind owning Spiff too ! 😅
I’d been over thinking and over complicating my compressor plugin selections so I’ve made a vow to use my R comp a lot more. It’s been doing everything I need a compressor to do and it’s easy to use so I’ve been using my ears and mixing a lot more.
Thanks for sharing that!
People talk smack on Waves, but the entire R series are still classics. Simple, fast and great sounding. Indispensable to fast work for me :)
Wow, that voice is amazing!
Thanks ever so much Brian!
Would you use soothe for the first vocal example too? I’ve been using soothe to the same effect. Never thought to use spiff tor this kind of thing. What is the benefit of using spiff over soothe here?
Yes, Soothe 2 is excellent in that situation for controlling excessive build up, obviously for transients Spiff is amazing!
I’ve never heard of this plugin, definitely going to check it out.
i have sooth plugin by the same company i really like it and use it all the time. i am picky and use analog mixer and outboard. very good plugin, gonna get this one to
soothe2 and spiff have been on every channel i have ever mixed since they were released. Indispensable tools.
Thanks for your advice, going to try out this weekend :)
Thanks Greg, it's the number one requested plug in for us to review, so we did it again and I asked two others to give their opinion and show their uses!
Hi Warren. Thanks for posting this vid. Would you say that this is essentially a multiband compressor?
It does more than that as it can increase specific transients as well as reduce them. Thanks for the great question
More like a multiband transient shaper but with the algorithm they used for soothe. Actually, it's more than that. In multiband dynamics, the bands are fixed whereas in this, the bands move intelligently and they act closer to a dynamic EQ than a multiband compressor. There's no crossovers.
Plugin sounds amazing. Cheers great video
Thanks Joey!
I finally sprung for Soothe. I was putting it off for a long time because it's so expensive. I hate spending as much on a plugin as I would on a cheap guitar. But it was worth it.
Other plugins I use all the time:
Brainworx Townhouse Buss Compressor
Waves SSL Compressor
Waves R-Bass
Lindell Audio 50 Channel (API emulation)
Brainworx SSL 4000 G
Fab Filter Pro Q3
Fab Filter Pro L
Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor
I could go on and on. I have a lot of subscription services. Recently, I started the Universal Audio Subscription, and I've been pretty blown away with their plugins.
How would this compare to eventide split eq
Excellent video! Great plugin! And that girl's voice....OMG!!!!!
Thanks Tommy!
Weird. Isn’t the ‘Cut’ function just doing what Soothe does? Why would I need both?
A must!!!!!
Thanks Manny!
Awesome vocalist!
Thanks ever so much!
It’s like soothe. I find myself using it on everything
Thanks ever so much
I'd say Spiff is aptley named as it is rather "spiffing" (english term). I dont use it on everything but I do use it. It is rather excellent on harsh strings.
Yes! Agreed 100%!
Just one more thing, and this other thing, and this, oh, and this one more thing. It's ox's and otters, all the way home. Water that I am. 🛶😄🧜🏻♀️🌊 What? ...and some Reaperness thrown in!
Haha thanks Audrey!
Yes sooth for vocals all the way
Fantastic
need this for my jodeling recordings. greetings from switzerland🇨🇭🧀
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing!
ALL ABOUT LOVE!!!
Oeksound really has some incredible stuff. Great look at it!
Thanks Conor!
Thanks
You're very welcome!
Spiff becomes even better when you reduce or completely null the stereo link.
Thanks for sharing!
Spiff and Soothe are incredible. I will use them more when I upgrade my CPU. They are too much for my 2014 Mac book pro.
Tell me about it my friend.
Thanks Delon!
@@patkelly8309 haha I hear you!
how would you compare spiff (and soothe2) to gullfoss? thank you!
I'll have to do a shoot out to know for sure!
Man that vocal wow
Thanks
I enjoyed Matt's Homeless Otter comment very much, although I did wonder if he'd had one too many Spiffs~?
Haha thanks Pat!
so good plugin
Marvellous!
If there is no spiff what you would do instead? I mean befor spiff how you did all of these stuff without spiff?
Is it basically like Gulfoss?
I need to compare this to Split EQ
They're both irreplaceable to, Spiff and Soothe. On point workflow! And for what it gets done it's almost too easy :D It feels a bit like cheating to be honest (but who cares anyways?)
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Off topic (sorry): Why not make a video about what NOT to do in a recording studio and other things; for example placing coffee cups on or near a mixing desk, cellphone use, proper storage of cables and so on... There's so much that can go wrong, and it can be really expensive... haha... well... just a suggestion in case you are running out of things to talk about (probably not), haha... I learned a lot in my younger days when I first started to work in recording studios and also on television, about 35 years ago... The damage some coffee, or even worse Coca Cola, can do to gear, oh man.... Keep the videos coming!!
I'm trying to figure out the difference between this and Soothe2.........
I just wish the workload was a little less. Once u have 3 or 4 instances on a big project it rlly limits your flow. Add a trackspacer on top of everything it's crazy
Hey! London is a HTX artist! My good friend drums for her!
Compared to a dynamic EQ, what difference would there be?
Sure seems to be just a dynamic EQ to me.
@@weschilton I believe it aside from EQ you are zoning into what harmonics to bring out or cut.
In principle I imagine that the main difference is the bands, but I would like a comparison video, what advantages or uses it has, why it is more convenient to use it.
Surely you already know Pitch Tracking with dynamic EQ, there are a few plugins that do this, like MAutodynamicEQ, which also allows you to adjust what happens with the harmonics.
Another very "Pro" dynamic EQ is TBProAudio DSEQ, which they call "Dynamic Spectral Equalizer".
I wonder if what becomes standard is because it is also easy to use or has a very short learning curve, what Melda does is very... deep, many options.
Another case is the "Spectral Compressors", such as Sonible smartComp and MSpectralDynamics, which have many bands and many things can be done, that may be the problem, that it is not for a specific thing, I don't know.
Of course there's also Oeksound Soothe, but they say it's a resonance suppressor, so isn't it a spectral compressor?
All of these can work as De-esser. But how easy is it to attenuate resonances?
One that I would like to see in the comparison is another transient EQ, if that's what it is... also from Sonible, the entropyEQ.
And where does Denise Dragon Fire come in? What the hell is a tonal compressor?
and now comes Baby Audio Smooth Operator, which says "combines equalization, spectral compression and resonance suppression".
It is to go crazy.
@@a-job7276 since you get a trial I would do your own comparison since your the engineer. You have to decide if its right for your workflow. A lot of these youtube engineers are promoting products for the partnership links. I bought way to many plugins because of that. Try it! : )
@@artale4404 Thanks for the comment, I should definitely try and study them, but I am not an engineer or a professional, and the opinion and advice of audio professionals is always important.
It is clear that it is a promotional video, the most important part is that it says that it has become a standard. The amount of plugins that mix engineers have to buy is to cry... Marketing on UA-cam is very strong, apart from known websites.
Great plug-in, you're also good at EQing though - you can tell when an engineer has "console ears".
Thanks ever so much!
Veri naisss
Thanks ever so much!
song name?
That was rather um...SPIFFY. ;)
😀
Haha Spiffy indeed!
@@jcpuga Haha
i can do that on a transient like izotope ones .. choosing frequency. .....a whole lot cheaper
She can sing
Yes! She can!
Just basic thing, in life it never is a good idea to put one thing on everything, that’s first you know for yourself. Concerning plugins you already know, best plugin is no using any plugin at all. If you ask me Isotope ozone helped me to put out fast a quick dirty mix for demo purposes. Plugins saving time are useful in general. What specific plugin that is depends on your personal creative workflow ;
I take my hat off to you, listening to that voice for anything longer than 10 seconds. Modern music just does not cut it for me.
Why not soothe2?
I love that too and use it ALL the time!
A new recording studio scenario:
Artist waiting in studio asks why the mix down is taking an unusually long time. Audio producer says the engineer left for a quick 'smoke break'... When audio engineer comes back they ask why he suddenly left.
Audio engineer : I thought you said to " use Spliff" ... LOL ROTFL
:)
Parallel spiff + saturation is fcking crazy
Re: wooly. To me overly compressed v.ovals like that sound like the singer has a cold- kind of nasal where n sounds become Ng sounds. It’s Not just vocals - bass guitar can sound like that as well.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
why did he decide against the genelecs?
I didn't! I'm rotating my speakers!
I can see DAW's having an Automix button soon. 1. Track 2. engage Automix 3. go to the pub.
Haha we are a LONG way off that! You have to know what you're listening for and identify what frequency transient you want to increase. Without a good ear this will do the opposite of what you want!
@@Producelikeapro A.i. only has to learn to make the same (or better)decisions as a human would mind you and according those pushing the 4th industrial revolution thats here. I dont like it stop!
Soothe 2
Fantastic plug in!
Lifesaver for problematic bass tracks
Thanks ever so much Victor!
The arrangement is beautiful. There is a permanent suspension. The vocal melody is suspended against piano chords.
Thanks ever so much!
imho at least soothe is bad, tried the demo for a month , on rly bad material , it does nothing that a dynamic eq /or compressor can't do .... i wish there was a plugin that could rly fix high freq harshness without making it sound weird or worse .... (also tired of all the demo vids were the source audio is good with no actual problems , and no accurate lvl matching after the process )
suddenly all the influencers are making videos about how great Oeksound plugins are
Suddenly? Haha I've been talking about them constantly and every time we use Soothe 2 (in every mix video) someone says what about Spiff?) so I asked them if they'd give us some to give-away!
Haha the latest video before this on Spiff was 4 months ago!
@@Producelikeapro at least the others are saying its sponsored
I try not to use plugins! I try to record right to achieve the best sound. My favourite plugin? Hmm... maybe my mic?
Please let us hear your mixes! The people I know who love this ares me of the best in the business, would love to hear what you do! When using a plug in like this you have to know what you're listening for and identify what frequency transient you want to increase. Without a good ear this will do the opposite of what you want! I was turned onto Oeksound because the most analog and organic mixers I know used their plug ins.
Multitracks would not dl
I just tried and it worked for me. Can you double check please? Many thanks
@@Producelikeapro I will do that. It might be my Firefox browser. I try with Chrome I will get back to you when I do! thx
Why do you wear colored lenses?
Coloured lenses?
Soothe must be on a marketing kick or something. I’ve seen numerous videos released at almost the exact same time promoting it and it’s definitely not a new plugin.
Maybe? This is about Spiff though because so many people have asked me to re-review it. I thought I’d bring on two others to help review it!
@@Producelikeapro oh not hating at all they are great products. I just thought it was interesting how many new reviews have dropped for oeksound products in the last 3 days. Keep up the good work
@@krispybowgod9656 I haven’t seen anyone else’s videos on Oeksound recently. I’ve been meaning to do this for 6 months.
oeksound seems to be nice plugins and everybody love them. maybe. but they dont really care about customers who cannot afford their stuff! even on black friday they give just 30 % discout. every black friday the same discount. yo oeksound look at the others! softube e.g. they got fabulous software. they give 50 even 60 sometimes 70%. why? because they say: everyone should afford our plugins!
and thats customer focus!
Oeksound is a very small company with only 2 plug ins. Your original comment, which you edited, talked abut Plug In Alliance who have 100's and 100's of plug ns going a bigger discount. To a small company of a handful of people with 2 plug ins they can't devalue their products, then people will only buy during sales. Large companies can discount certain products massively that aren't selling.
Softube have many products, both software and hardware. Oeksound have 2.
Neat but this seems like a plugin that you could easily get lost in the weeds with and spend hours working with, and only other audio engineers would be able to tell the difference in the final mix.
Owning SplitEQ already, do you guys think Spiff is worth getting? Because my brain tells me Yes, my wallet not so much…😮💨
Did you get Spiff? I’m in the same boat and wondering what Spiff offers that Split EQ doesn’t.
@@psybursonic Nope but I got Equalizer by Wavesfactory recently when it got released. Not that it can do exactly what Spiff does but it feels like a great and easy to use tool to boost or cut certain parts of the spectrum.
Absolutely hate this. In a few more years, you can just type text in your plug-in, select male or female vocals, select the key, chose a singing style and *poof*... out comes the vocals.
All this hyper-correcting is losing the character and essence of music. Its why almost everything released today sounds the same. Imperfect is perfect. This is just fake music.
This is why so many new musicians emphasize "the show" when live, because they aren't very good live. Its why I have seen so many major blunders in live shows when auto-tune fails, or pre-recorded lip-sinking fails, or yada, yada, yada. Milli Vanilli was mocked for their lip-sinking. Years later, its the norm.
You can keep your Spif. Would rather hear actual singing and all its imperfections,. No thanks.
BTW: Any real singer wouldn't want this. Its all about those that aren't that good... isn't it? Answer: yes.
Hi Trevor, we are a LONG way off this being any kind of AI! You have to know what you're listening for and identify what frequency transient you want to increase. Without a good ear this will do the opposite of what you want! I was turned onto Oeksound because the most analog and organic mixers I know used it.
The first low-mid cut on this awesome female vocal is awful imo
We need more dynamic range there, not less
The drums and voice sound so digital and the opposite of sweet and yummy , just plain gross sounding and yuk . Thanks for nothing , digital recording and plug ins . Lastly thanks for nothing to producers who have fell into digital recording and productions . Us music lovers dislike this digital , artifact sounding records so much it leaves a fake saccharine taste in our mouths . Yuk again.
nice to read this actually the whole world is going fake plastic trees it seems, music esp
