    It's been TOO long since I've painted on my walls like an actual 6 year old, so it's time to remedy that. My "Too Much" gene noticed some blank spaces around my house and barn that just needed a little spicin' up. Taking some inspo from Scandinavian folk paintings, I got to work filling in those spots!

      I heard that from different people around the world. In Germany you can paint whatever you want on your walls in a rental. Colour, tapestry or drawing on it. You just have to overpaint it when your moving out or somebody else takes the Appartement like it is and has to paint it white if those people are moving out.

      Solid color peel and stick wallpaper is a thing. You can always get some and paint that. (Or, if you want to go cheaper, get a roll and/or large sheets of white paper and paint that, then tape it up.)

      I think if you use something like wheat paste, you can lay tapestries or yards of colorful fabric on your white walls.

    As a former mural painter I just wanna say yay you!! Couple tips from an old pro: watercolor pencils are your bff, cheesecloth can help age and soften, and the prep you cannot see is what makes it look pro. A quick pic of that wall and a drawing on your iPad will help if you decide if you want to redo it. And what I always said to clients: it’s just paint. We can always paint over it if you hate it

      Yes to using the cheesecloth to age with the paint that Rachel used. You can also combine the paint with a glazing medium that can make it more transparent. This is how you can fake a Venetian plaster 😉 at least in color. You can build up layers that way. I used Benjamin Moore & Martin Senour paints for the base coating bc that’s what I had near me. For the decorative art I used Folk Art paints from the craft store. If it’s going in a high use area ( kitchen, kids room, or entry) I used a water based top coat.

We were 10 and 12, and it looked HORRIBLE! My aunt’s husband came home and screamed at us. We told him we got permission from our aunt. He didn’t believe us. When my aunt got home, she said she DID give us permission, but she didn’t realize we would cover every inch of the ceiling or that it would look so bad. It caused so much tension between our families. There was another time that “uncle” accused me of trying to turn his son gay by painting his nails. 🙄Thankfully they divorced. ☺

    Great work! 🎨 I'm an art conservator and restorer, and I have some tips and tricks concerning wall paintings to help them look "older" or more vintage-looking. Especially with green paint, you always want to use a color that is a bit muted, not so bright and neon-like, as such pigment was not historically available, and it instantly looks very modern. The "whitewash" you did was a great idea because it helps achieve this slightly faded look. I often use the dry brush technique or even a sponge to scatter some thicker, more opaque background paint on the design to mimic chips and losses of color. I also recommend using a very fine brush to clean up the edges and make fine lines. You can free-hand little details with great effect, but in my experience, a tiny brush makes it a whole lot easier. Keep up the good work! 👍

    The norwegian art is called rosemåling, and it's... a whole thing. Each area has its' own colors and style, and they've become pretty set in stone over the years. I tried to get into it with my local Sons of Norway, but it's got a lot of rules haha. Specific shapes and colors and flourishes have to be used in specific styles only if you want to be "accurate." Gotta respect the folk historians who carry it on. My little impulsive heart couldn't handle it.

    • @elisebjerke3976
      @elisebjerke3976 7 місяців тому +6

      To the ones that say you can't do this or this because it's wrong considering the style that's been used so many years ago I say: NO! I don't care, it shall be beautiful by my own standards. And letting people vary their expressions and linetypes to fit them is what's going to bring it into the future(this is also true for the bunad, but people might kill me for saying that). I do know classic rosepainting for my own area, and I've practiced many an hour to make the lines just so. But the works I'm most pleased with and that gets recognition is always the ones where I go beyond and explore the possibilities. The beauty of the artstyle is after all the impulsivity and creativity behind it, not replicating something exact.

    Ma'am... there is no OOPS, we know you... white walls are not safe 🤭 and we live for it! The kitchen and the bathroom light are my favorites, using the gold and brass paint together is really beautiful! The kitchen detail is perfectly wholesome, Autumn whimsy. And yes, I'm clinging to Autumn with all of my strength! My favorite seasons go from Autumn, Winter, Spring to Autumn again. Summer can suck a fart. Even though I've moved from Arizona to Colorado, it still is the WORST! I do also love the floral borders but as an Autumn Forever girl, anything with acorns and anything made with brown, gold, and brass colors = chef's kiss! I wish I could paint my walls but I can't, gallery wall it is for me and so I watch you paint and dream...

    The barn one was my favorite! I did a scandinavian floral design on the back of a door back in January. No freehanding for me tho LOL I designed it, printed, traced it and then I felt confident enough to go in with the paints. Took me a lot more time, but on the plus side, playing around with it on the computer allowed me to choose my colors and shades beforehand, so I already knew what the finished product was gonna look like before I even started

    I watched your bathroom redo video right before this one and cannot believe what a difference that brown ceiling made in pulling the bathroom together and how that bit of gold and brass decor on it then changed the dusky color to rich and elegant everywhere in it!
    But the painted addition in the barn was my favorite as I love a fairy tale cottage look and that definitely hit that spot!
    I could be wrong but I think you don't like the office one because it still leaves a pretty big blank space. Maybe a castle floating on clouds in the middle?
