If there was ever a house that screamed 'RACHEL', it's this house. It's so cool! I absolutely love the property, too. Congratulations on this new chapter!
All of the little nooks and secret rooms are just absolutely PERFECT for her, I know she’s going to make it look so cute! I’m so excited to see the decorating process!
@@theworldof11 Exactly, it does say Rachel right there! This house deserves her and she deserves this beautiful house and garden and woods. I am so fricking excited for her!
I sniffled at Rachel's husband comforting her when they were moving from their old house that had belonged to her grandmother. I wish them both every happiness in their beautiful new home.
It's so refreshing to see an influencer get a historic home instead of a giant modern farmhouse monstrosity that cost a small fortune. I'll never be able to afford to have a home or kids, but I'm really happy for you Rachel. It's so nice to see your life and your new home, thanks for sharing it with us.
I live in Massachusetts, like Rachel, and it makes me SUPER happy to see someone buying a historic home instead of the awful McMansions that are all too common around here. Or buying a perfectly good house and demolishing it to build a huge monstrosity in it's place; clear-cutting the entire lot.
This was nice. PRO TIP: paint the walls before tearing out the carpet that way you don't get paint on the new hardwood floors. It'd also be pretty cute if you made one of the rooms like an art gallery for your drawing/paintings on the walls
For the yellow bathroom: remove whatever is covering the bulbs, then switch to “daylight” bulbs instead of “soft light” or “warm light.” It made SUCH a difference in my house!
@@omegasage777 There are many different ways to light your home and guides here on youtube, how blue, white or yellow the light is is graded on the Kelvin scale and there are videos explaining that so you know what to look for in the store.
Ohmygod, that footage of Frodo running around his first time in the new house is too precious for words. Also, that barn studio...what a dream! I LOVE the ceiling beams
That house is kind of mindblowingly gigantic for me (European living in a 1000 sqf condo soon moving into an even smaller one-floor house) but it's lovely. The little oven, the creepy little nooks, the maybe prohibition-era barn basement... it has a lot of personality. And that backyard is to die for.
Yeah, to think they live there by themselves… meanwhile I’m with my husband and our two kids in 590 sqf 😬 Trying desperately to find a bigger place but that house honestly would feel too big even for us. It’s beautiful though!
Yeah... I always find interesting what is consider "small space" in USA. We just bought 700 sqf flat with my partner (we're also from Europe) and we consider it big for us two and our cat. We used to rent 300 sqf up until now. 😅 But on the other hand I understand that Rachel have different needs than me. She works from home so she needs studio space, office space, sewing room, a lot of storage for her projects. If she will ever want to have kids, they will need some space as well. I'm happy that she found a space to fullfil those needs and within her price range. 😀
My wife and I have a house that’s about 1800sqft and we know we’d never fit kids here. Especially with the pandemic, we’ve each made our own spaces in the spare rooms and the animals have their spaces and I guess we’re very spoiled now lol
1000 sqf is huge imo 😅 Even when I was living with my family we never lived in such a big place. The biggest apartment we had was half that. And when I started living alone I lived in much smaller places 200-400 sqf.
Your grandmother would have been proud to have contributed to you buying your HOME. Just keep that in mind. She'd want your total happiness in your home, rather than partial happiness in hers. I'm sure she's excited for you and sending you love from above.
Congrats, Rachel!!!!!!! I am so so ready to watch this house become a home! I made a very similar move a year ago (1800s farmhouse twins!!) and it has been a beautiful adventure restoring the house to its former glory!
So what you are saying is we are about to get a BUNCH of renovation content? Coz if so, yes please. I would love to see what you do to make the house all yours
This house is INCREDIBLE - we bought a house last fall that's pretty small because we wanted to be close to the city, but seeing your yard/forest just FILLS ME WITH LONGING, all I kept thinking was "you could shoot ANYTHING out there!!" Meanwhile our backyard just means we're always halfway attending our neighbor's porch parties 😂
My parents had the perfect setup, but moved states and sold it. Unfortunately they bought the house after my 1st year in college and so I only ever lived there a few months at a time totally live 8 months or so. They lived just outside of town but close enough that it only took 10 min to get to all of the grocery stores and strip malls and things and like 15 or 20 to get to the high school. They had 1 or 2 acres of woods, it was very much not flat, so "not usable," but I adored their property and when I lived there I would often go out and sit somewhere among the trees to read and absolutely want something similar when we can finally afford to buy a house, which won't be soon...
I had a feeling she was dating Nick even when she called him a friend. Now they are moving in together. I have not seen all her video but the ones that I have seen she would call him her friend. She has a ring so is she engaged?
Rachel, can you imagine when your grandchildren and children have as many fond and beautiful memories of this house as you did in your grandmother's? Absolutely amazing 😭💖💖💖💖 Congratulations
I feel like you just went “Yeah, we could film a Pride and Prejudice movie here. It’s THE ONE!” It’s beautiful and I’m so happy for you, Nick, Frodo, and Binx!
omg I'm so glad it's Rachel's hands this house is held by. The magic, art, and love that will go into each room is so special and will make the entire house sing. So so excited to see the growth in this new (and very well-deserved) season of life
Rachel, the way you talk to us always makes me feel like I am in the room and we are chatting as friends and it makes me cry a little bit and I love it. So proud of you and can’t wait to watch this next adventure unfold.
I don’t think you’re bragging, I appreciate that you shared this with your viewers. Your home is beautiful and I can’t wait to see what you guys do to it! One of the best parts of owning a home is putting work into it, and your own touches and decor, making it your own cozy space! So happy for you guys, congratulations!
It’s very OK to be proud of your beautiful new home. It’s a family homestead! Much love to you and your husband in making it your own. Living in it a while you will feel you way to how you want each space to be. The back yard is amazing, such a lovely setting.
This house has the right balance between cute farm house and cursed weirdness for Rachel. Plus the studio is going to be great, not having to worry about sound or mess in the same way as the last house. Honestly if this were mine though, the pastels would be staying, and I'm perfectly happy for you to judge me for that XD
Appreciative of the openness about leaving a house that has an emotional attachment to childhood or loved ones. I felt that. Hey, if you ever do a history background check for the house, see if you can learn more about the Winchester Stairs. So intriguing.
Lots of old houses have a steep, narrow back stair like that. I was always told they were so that whoever cleaned the house wouldn't be walking up the good front stairs with wet rags dripping on the carpet, but that could be wrong. I've seen numerous houses where they've had something like this done to them. In one, they turned it into storage by building drawers into the stairs, sturdy enough to still go up and down if you needed to.
My grandma’s ranch house had a set of stairs like that. She said they were the original stairs, then when the house was expanded and newer stairs were built on the other side of the house, they kept the old ones so that there was always an emergency escape route. They used to worry about fires a lot because the area was very dry and they were on their own, no fire services available in the county back then. (1890’s California)
Its nice to have another odd bean going though "normal adult" things like buying a house. Also the idea of Rachel being a mom makes me smile. She'll be the best type of crazy mom
Watching you get emotional in the footage leaving the old house and seeing the love and support you and Nick share got me all teary eyed too. You're a big part of our lives too it seems and I'm glad you're sharing this change (not that you owe us any sharing of course). It is a beautiful historical house! Enjoy every second of this crazy process and fooey on those who say it's bragging (Also who would say that? Clearly people who don't watch you enough). For those of us who can't get a house we'll just live vicariously through you. 🤣🤣
NervousHobbyCollector27, her leaving grandma's old house was sad, but I adore her new old home! I hope she does a mural like she did at Grandma's on the vanity wall. I hope she took the vanity and so much other stuff from their last home. I have a googleplex of decorating ideas Rachel does not need. I'm sure she won't disappoint. 👍🏻 Vicariously livin through my virtual acquaintances and Rachel the creative, old house loving, retro and cosplayer, designer, and film maker. 🙂🌹🎅
As someone who's currently struggling with housing, watching you frolic in what might be my dream home, all I can think is how hard you've worked for what you have and how happy I am that you have it. That house is beautiful, it just screams "you," and I'm glad I get to live vicariously through you. Thank you for showing us! I can't wait to see your journey in this new home, and watch it become more and more yours as you shape it into what you want. I'm so excited for you!
Most folks are struggling with housing. Nowadays, unless you're making six-figures, then more likely family members are helping you get on the property ladder. Rachel was lucky to inherit her grandma's house otherwise this Farmhouse purchase would likely never have happened.
I have my home because my dad moved and I rent it from him. Almost everyone I know is renting with an outrageous rent price especially in my state. I can’t even imagine where I’d be without my dad and his letting me rent here..
Since I abandoned all hope of ever owning a house myself what with what Covid brought, I'm living vicariously through you guys! Can't wait to see your craft room all set up and you settled in and maybe even renos or makeovers, and see how you decorate and arrange the house. ETA: My god, that yard is a dream! And that little forest will look magical once the trees are green and fluffy again.
Sam, do not fret or lose hope. Things will get better and I'm sure you will have a home you can be happy with. And I agree, that yard and view would be my absolute dream. Wishing you the best.
@@SayHelloToOblivion I appreciate the sentiment! ❤️ But let's be real. With the way the cost of living has risen, the inflation and especially the prices of houses (now I would be paying for a studio apartment what I would have payed for a 2-bedroom apartment before the pandemic and everything hit), slim chance of that. I'm trying to stay positive but also realistic.
When I started reading this I heard it saying… “I’m so excited that you’ve gone from hiding from neighbours, to hiding from delivery guys.” 😂😂but seriously… the house is awesome Rachel! Congrats! 😁
Oh my lord. I live in England. I can't get over how big your houses are! My entire house would fit in two of your rooms! I can't imagine having all that space and such an amazing garden without neighbours peering in.
I love all the creepy things Rachel is afraid of, eventually they will just be part of the house and she's going to transform them into the coolest hidden spaces! Looking forward to all the "look what we found when we redecorated in here" content.
The 'staircase to nowhere' was almost certainly a servant's staircase at one point judging by the fact that it's narrow, steep, and was tucked behind a door. Considering the size of the house itself it's very likely that the original owners could afford and employed a maid, who would have used the staircase rather than the much grander, main staircase.
This home doesn’t seem to be structured nor large enough to have housed servants. It’s surely the old set of staircase. The home would probably be at minimum twice as big and much more fancy and ornate if it weren’t just a farmers home.
True even middle class had a house woman who had to do it all from tend fires to cook and laundry. Those women worked their behinds off and longed to work in a richer home.
My Aunt and Uncle had a much smaller farmhouse than this one and it had a similar narrow staircase that led to a small bedroom which was a maid's quarters. It led directly to the kitchen. Of course the maid would have lived there about a century before they owned it.
I was sad when I moved from my childhood home in California. I hadn't been happy until 2 years ago when me and the hubby bought our own place. We lived with his brother and his family and our boys were getting too dang big.
Hey Rachel!! Love your "new" old house!! The "cooking arm" in the fireplace is called a crane. An alternative name for your sitting room could be a more traditional name, the keeping room and the small office, the parlor... Just some ideas for you. Your home is wonderful and you have a great adventure ahead of you as you make it your own!
never for a second thought of this as bragging. bragging would be talking about how hAAArRrd it is to move from one mansion into an even bigger mansion. its wonderful to take a little tour around your forever project that's completely on brand being a historical property. best of luck with the carpet and kitchen projects, i'm sure you'll take us along for the ride!
The 'stairs to nowhere' are probably old servant stairs that were boarded up. Those narrow, high, DANGEROUS stairs were often made for servants because they took up little space, and the wider, safer stairs for the owners of the house with their bigger skirts. This is the reason the stairs in the barn are the same type- because the masters of the house never had to go out there.
I would have assumed it's from having moved the staircase as some point and that the stairs in the cupboard are what's left of the original ones. I wouldn't expect a farmhouse like this to have servants, without the more modern extention the house itself would be pretty small.
I would be compelled to find where they connected upstairs, and if practicable, open it back up, but with concealed doorways at top and bottom. SECRET STAIRS
I feel like at the end you felt like you had to apologize for having a beautiful new home. But as someone who has been searching for a house for 8 months, I don't begrudge you this blessing at all. It's so wonderful to see this historic property pass into the hands of someone who will love and cherish it, and will not tear it down to build 63 identical townhouses. I can't wait to see how you make this house a home. Wishing you many years of laughter, love, and beautiful memories in this home.
this!! small *and* split closets sounds like a nightmare and a surefire recipe for forgetting about things and making getting dressed an unpleasant process. put those books downstairs / in the offices and make a library nook, and give your clothes the clothing rack breathing space they deserve!
Never apologize for being happy, Rachel, I am so happy for y'all. The house has such amazing potential and history already, and it will develop so much more with y'all taking care of it. Many congrats and the best of wishes on future home improvements! also the little barn studio is almost every crafters dream! enjoy the heck out of that girlie!
As a german, living in a city, having a house is something I will most likely never ever achieve. Seeing people refer to this as "normal adulting" is crazy to me. This isn't a backyard, it's a garden! A park! It is baffling how two people can just own that much property. I definitely live in the wrong country haha! Congrants though! It just blows my mind how this is affordable at all. :D
I will say, for most in the US, a house this size isn't necessarily "affordable" for people their/my age. I'd say they got lucky on location and having at least one decent income. Most live renting here too because it's what we can afford. :) I'm a dual citizen with Germany and I'd honestly rather be there any day. 😂
@@drakenfolk no worries! I'm super jealous of their ability to live like that. I wish every day, but alas, Healthcare and school payments are more important than "owning" a home. I'm happy with a roof lol
This isn’t normal for most people her age in the US. She mentioned that her previous house was her grandmothers, so I imagine she probably inherited the house and got a decent amount selling it especially in this housing market. She also makes quite a bit off of her UA-cam videos.
As a person who lives in an old house to another, keep in mind carpets (or rugs) are great insulation. Love the pond. Always wanted one myself. If you can swing it drains in your bathroom floors makes mopping so much faster and easier and you don't risk flooding your whole house. Ventilation is a must in a bathroom, and so are moisture barriers, and licensed installers cause they are insured. Also they did some experiments recently, up north. If you have enough insulation you can heat your house with your refrigerator motor, that means no spending $10,000 or thereabouts on a house furnace. Never let anyone tell you, you can't have something because someone else might need it. They're both devaluing you, and the other person in need.
Wait, American bathrooms don't have floor drains? I thought that was a normal thing. Even my downstairs loo under the stairs has a floor drain. (I live in Australia.)
@@thebigbadwolfe_27 no we don't. I never heard of a bathroim floor drain until seeing an Austrailuan UA-camr. I moved to the UK a while back, never saw a floor drain here either.
As one of those people struggling to find a home right now, these kinds of videos actually really encourage me and give me a lot of hope! I’m living vicariously through you right now lol, I’m so excited to one day find a quirky old home that I can make my own while keeping its historical integrity. I cannot WAIT to see what you do with this place, it’s gorgeous💖✨
This video has gotten me through this entire year. I've watched it dozens of times while working to finally get our first home, after being told we inherited my childhood home when I lost my dad. The mix of excitement and nostalgia and as Rachel said, the emotional burden of being the one to leave the family home, is such an overwhelming mix of emotions. We officially got our house last week, which is very bittersweet so close to the holidays.
I'm so proud of you for handling the grieving process of leaving a family home. It is a gut punch that takes a moment to accept. Congratulations on the new chapter!
And thank you for letting us see you grieve... Lately I have found myself contemplating that someday I will have to do the same and I always felt somewhat guilty about how attached I was to what others in my life would call “just a house.” After you shared what you were going through and even showed video of your process I realized it really was completely normal and that when the time comes it will be ok to linger, reminisce, and feel all the hard feelings in my own time! 💓
My to do list today: 5:30- JAZZERCIZE 6:00- Dinner with me ( I can’t cancel that again) 7:00- Wrestle with my self-loathing 8:00- New Rachel Maksy video 🧡🧡🧡 I’m booked lol Your videos are always so wholesome and make my day. Congratulations on the new house it’s beautiful!
Oh Rachel! I'm so excited for your beautiful new home! My partner and I also recently bought our forever home so In know how you feel! I've never felt so overwhelmed and so grateful at the same time. Honestly, it's been exhausting with the big move, but so SO worth it!
Rachel: "look at this fun little box on the backside of our chimney" Me: "ooohhhhh its one of those old fashioned bread ovens" Rachel: "DeAtH HoLE" Me:......😐😐😐🤣 I will forever love Rachel
@@BeeWhistler Same, they work great for pizza, or oven s'mores. I don't think that one would be functional, you need to get the bricks super hot, and the fire would have to be directly in the hearth. I think the cast iron stove would have been added later. My mom used one in a museum she worked at.
Rachel: "This was the guy's man cave, now it's my..." Me: "Lady cave?" R: "Floor troll cave." M: "That's more on brand." M: **Realizes that lady cave sounds dirty**
You want the attachable screens for the porch. That way when you're in the peak of bug season you can still use your porch. And then you can remove it when the bugs are minimum or non-existent.
This is a great tip for New England, especially with a pond and the woods on the property. Unless they have a lot of bats nearby (also common in New England, there will be mosquitos up the wazoo)
I love your "old room" - I would call it the drawing room or parlour. As someone who grew up in a 1750s (?) old crumbling house, I think you have the exact right level of spookiness. (Edit - Asked dad it was built in 1754.)
Why is there no “LOVE” button for this video?! A “like” button doesn’t say enough about how excited I am for you and how adorable I think your house is. Congratulations!
I had a house that was notorious for making homemade hooch during Prohibition. It was half a block from Lake Erie, so it even had a tunnel to the lake! There was a huge cement tub in the basement. Lotta fun!
I think chokey #2 is a cellar for cans! (They look like canning shelves) you could def store food cans and other excess food supply stuff there and I think temperature wise they would be good!
This home can be in so many eastcoast areas. It looks like upstate NY to me. No matter where it is it is a wonderful, lovely home already because of its it's new caretakers. 🙂👍🏻🌹🎅🕯
@@terrylawrence4121 the stone wall is picture perfect, and it so fits Rachel's aesthetics; in my mind. I wonder how her hubby likes it. If he can work from home, yippee! Any move is a great strain. They're just starting up, and I'm winding down. How nice is it they want a family? Not wanting to raise or have children is an option, but I believe Rachel mentioned children in her future. I can't wait to see the house's progression. I'm so excited for Frodo and friends, and us! I think we helped make that happen and all it cost me to support someone's dreams is tuning in and subscribing. Not a bad trade off to see such creativity, and a nice young lady and family like others on here who filter their First Amendment rights. Especially with tender ears listening. 🙂👍🏻🌹🎅🕯
As someone struggling through a major housing crisis- this is so much more encouraging than you know. Being able to see someone relatively my age doing the awesome things really gives me hope 🖤 we are currently my daughter, my partner& our pets crammed into my family's home- with my family. Idaho's market moved out of our capabilities when covid hit. We were approved for a loan in the morning and about to bid on a house when at 4:50pm our loan advisor called telling us he could no longer make it work because of how bad things were. Please- let the rest of us live through you 😅
In regards to your Grandmother's house, think of it this way. Your family had lots of years to have important moments and create memories in that home, but now you have given a whole new family the chance to experience new memories and fall in love with the home. You have left your mark but it's time to see what a new family can add to those memories and imprints.
I don't think I've seen your face light up like this in a while! So lovely that you and Nick are able to get a fresh start and take on an exciting home project!! Am unashamedly using this as motivation: "See 2022 is not gonna be that bad, you'll be able to watch Rachel rip up hideous (surely the previous owners knew?) carpets for months! The satisfaction of that alone will remedy the shitshow that is modern life "
Rachel, as a long term watcher, I can't even begin to express how excited I am for you! I have been sooooo looking forward to when you got a place you felt was your own ❤ I know moving from a home that has such sentiment in it is hard, but the wonderful thing is that now this house gets to be the place your grandkids grow up in (fingers crossed its the forever home).
We just moved this summer. Our living room is still "the land o' boxes," but we're about 80% unpacked and 95 % functional. I relate so much coming from a third floor apartment to a cute little ranch with a backyard "the size of Montana" for our little girl to run and play. I had to comment because of the end where she's having emotions about leaving her grandmother's house. I had a kitty who was my first fur baby all on my own. She passed away last summer at home in the comfort of familiar surroundings. She chose to pass under our daughter's crib which had been mine when I was a baby, like she was imprinting a bit of her spirit in that. When we were doing our final walk through of the apartment this summer, I laid on that spot of carpet and had a good cry. I didn't want her to be left behind. My sweet husband reminded me that she was at rest in my mother's beautiful backyard and that she was in our hearts and memories. Seeing Rachel having the feels reminded me. It may have been "just an apartment," but it's where we first lived on our own as a married couple, where our daughter came home from the hospital, where she took her first steps, where our Adella played with her and where she passed, where we started our journey as a family... that's hard to let go of and it's important to let yourself have that space to transition emotionally as well as physically. You are such a relatable and sweet-hearted person, Rachel!
* Rachel enters library* Rachel: “We are planning to keep the wallpaper at least for now” Me, aloud: YAAAY!!! 😅 It’s so dang pretty and old fashioned. I was relieved to hear it’s fate, at least for now. Your new home is so so beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on this journey with you! I dream of a home with a yard that large someday, and I love exploring old houses so much. 😻 Twas lovely!
Having a part of Rachel's life once a week is truly blissfull. These videos makes me so so happy and I know that I can feel safe in this little space of the internet and it just beings me such immense happiness. Thank you Rachel, for inviting us into a part of your life and being so generous with yourself.
I have carpet and 2 cats - one shreds everything he sees (but he is Siamese - DOH - smart choice there!!!) and the other a black and white moggie who loves the couch too much to destroy it....so cats are very individual!
Home with some history, your own forest, little fish pond, shed and a staircase to nowhere?! Sounds perfect to me! P.S. Rachel, I really admire Your work, your style and love your videos!
Can we get an entire series of your remodel / home projects over the next few years? I’d love to see the process you his go through to make this beautiful home your dream home
Please do a renovation series! So excited to see what you do with the place, its gonna be so beautiful! (the house is already so amazing tho omg the fiiiish)
I do lead glass windows. If you would want a custom one, instead of finding an antique, I would love to do it for you. Although, I understand the charm of a great find!
May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door! ☘️ Congratulations on your new home it’s beautiful
As someone who is struggling to find a rental house within my budget, I'm happy to see you enjoying your new house and the journey it will provide. If we can't rejoice in each other's wins, then what joy is there in this world. Congrats!
hear hear! love this sentiment so much. and as someone in the same rental boat as you, this video was a lovely reprieve for my brain. it's so nice to know homes like this end up with people like Rachel who will make each room a thoughtful masterpiece :)
Finally!!! BTW… You need to name your farm! My papa’s house was “The Rollin’ Acre! I’m so excited to see the farmhouse. This is so perfect you the four of you! Be been subbed to Acorn for years (bought it specifically for Miss Fisher), but the detector it’s is truly charming… between that and Oak Island I tried my best to get my father into that hobby… each year I keep buying him more gear… eventually he’ll find something good and hopefully he’ll be hooked!
Oh! I agree. My Dad bought a farm when he retired and the first thing he did was name it. Five Acre Farm (it's a lot more than five but that's my Pops for you)
as someone leaving grad school to move back in with her parents, i may slightly be living my house dreams vicariously through you in this video lol. congratulations, you deserve such an awesome and interesting house to make history in!
Why did I laughed so damn hard at Frodo vigorously slurping water? It's just a doggo drinking water right? But something about that interruption hit me right in my giggles 😂😅
We are moving into my husband's grandmother's 1940's era log home. We have done some work to it and there is a lot left to do...but I love it SO MUCH. Knotty pine walls, awkward transition area too small to call a hallway, lopsided upstairs bath with a tiny shower and enough room to house my art desk and supplies! We have 6 acres of mostly woods too and it is glorious. I cleared the old walking trail and added some more paths. Congratulations on this beautiful home!
As a former pastry chef, when I saw that bread oven my heart skipped a beat. So amazing!! Your house is stunning. Congratulations!! I am sure whatever mods you two make, it will be stunning.
What a terrific home! I too have a historic home and totally understand the challenges you face. You have youth on your side and I'm sure are able to put in the work. Oh the fun you will have there! I look forward to seeing your renovations!
Ahhhh so exciting for y'all!!! As someone who also bought an old, "ugly" house with solid bones and refinished it in my personal flavor (medieval revival, D&D-core) it's amazing to see someone else exploring the same adventure!!! I love this for you guys and so excited to see the reno projects come along and what you make of the space!
Oh my gosh guys! I didn't even see this! Let me get this place tidied and in order and I might put something together!! 🥰🥰🥰 I love y'all's enthusiasm 😭
Oh man I did NOT know you guys bought 5 acres of property. I'm so envious of that!! But the rest of the house looks absolutely amazing. I love love love the architecture and I can already see the image of what you want to do to it in my head. It'll look amazing and I hope you show us the entire process! I'm so excited for you :D
Congratulations on the house!! Not gonna lie, when you were talking about your grandmother's house I choked up. I had a chance to buy my childhood home and decided against it. That was tough at moments even though it was the right decision. Now though you and Nick can build your own space and make it yours. Been in my house 20+ years and there are projects we are still trying to get to so don't be too hard on yourself if it takes a while. Looking forward to seeing what you will create in your new space!
Rachel if u see this. I would love to see an Update on the house with all the rooms and things you have done since you moved in 😍 maybe you can do a side to side with this video and compare how it looked and what you had in mind with what happened since then and what worked out and maybe also what not

You will be able to have a home. I know you will
@@Duskembraced yes but historical houses look nice
@@colonyofrats4193 Modern ones too if you look for the right one which is rare to find.
Also I love the wide stairs. It must make moving furniture so much easier and also less stress of tiny staircase squishing through it
Oh my gosh I love the idea of an art gallery!!!!!!
Yes, an art gallery!!
Just paint the walls before putting in the new flooring; that way you get the paint right down to the floor bords
yes, art gallery in one of the libraries or the study!
For the yellow bathroom: remove whatever is covering the bulbs, then switch to “daylight” bulbs instead of “soft light” or “warm light.” It made SUCH a difference in my house!
Oh thank you for this! My house does not have a lot of natural light unfortunately, and the lighting is terrible. Definitely going to try this!
Do it, she's not kidding. People thought a window was made it was that different.
Wow, I didn't even know there were lightbulbs like that!
@@omegasage777 There are many different ways to light your home and guides here on youtube, how blue, white or yellow the light is is graded on the Kelvin scale and there are videos explaining that so you know what to look for in the store.
Also they make skylight tunnels!!!!
And that backyard is to die for.
ua-cam.com/video/xUmFCcWQqeU/v-deo.html
Yeah, to think they live there by themselves… meanwhile I’m with my husband and our two kids in 590 sqf 😬 Trying desperately to find a bigger place but that house honestly would feel too big even for us. It’s beautiful though!
Yeah... I always find interesting what is consider "small space" in USA. We just bought 700 sqf flat with my partner (we're also from Europe) and we consider it big for us two and our cat. We used to rent 300 sqf up until now. 😅
But on the other hand I understand that Rachel have different needs than me.
1000 sqf is huge imo 😅
Even when I was living with my family we never lived in such a big place.
This is so sweet 🥺
I bet her grabdmother would agree. What a kind thing to share. I hope Rachel sees this!
I totally agree with you Sparklypig.
Congrats, Rachel!!!!!!! I am so so ready to watch this house become a home! I made a very similar move a year ago (1800s farmhouse twins!!) and it has been a beautiful adventure restoring the house to its former glory!

Yesss!! Love reno content!!
This house is INCREDIBLE - we bought a house last fall that's pretty small because we wanted to be close to the city, but seeing your yard/forest just FILLS ME WITH LONGING, all I kept thinking was "you could shoot ANYTHING out there!!" Meanwhile our backyard just means we're always halfway attending our neighbor's porch parties 😂
ua-cam.com/video/xUmFCcWQqeU/v-deo.html

Rachel, the way you talk to us always makes me feel like I am in the room and we are chatting as friends and it makes me cry a little bit and I love it. So proud of you and can’t wait to watch this next adventure unfold.

This house has the right balance between cute farm house and cursed weirdness for Rachel. Plus the studio is going to be great, not having to worry about sound or mess in the same way as the last house. Honestly if this were mine though, the pastels would be staying, and I'm perfectly happy for you to judge me for that XD
Fun fact: the Addams family house was pink pastel because that showed best in black and white! Irony at its finest
I didn't mind the pastels either hahaha
That color of purple was so cute haha I didn't mind it at all...though the nice white/gray/neutral color she's repainting is is also pretty!
Pastel/mint green has actually been my obsession recently!
Appreciative of the openness about leaving a house that has an emotional attachment to childhood or loved ones. I felt that.
Hey, if you ever do a history background check for the house, see if you can learn more about the Winchester Stairs. So intriguing.
I guess that's probably just the original staircase that was never fully removed after the house got renovated
@@bluelagoon1980 What a cool drawer/stair idea 💫
My grandma’s ranch house had a set of stairs like that. She said they were the original stairs, then when the house was expanded and newer stairs were built on the other side of the house, they kept the old ones so that there was always an emergency escape route. They used to worry about fires a lot because the area was very dry and they were on their own, no fire services available in the county back then. (1890’s California)
Its nice to have another odd bean going though "normal adult" things like buying a house. Also the idea of Rachel being a mom makes me smile. She'll be the best type of crazy mom
She really will be.

Most folks are struggling with housing. Nowadays, unless you're making six-figures, then more likely family members are helping you get on the property ladder. Rachel was lucky to inherit her grandma's house otherwise this Farmhouse purchase would likely never have happened.

I appreciate the sentiment!
I’m so excited! Rachel can finally frolic around in her property without having to worry about her neighbors seeing her lol

She still has to dodge the UPS person. Lol!
Honestly I’m so excited that you’ve gone from hiding from neighbors to A WHOLE YARD AND FOREST to yourself so no one will bother you .
When I started reading this I heard it saying… “I’m so excited that you’ve gone from hiding from neighbours, to hiding from delivery guys.” 😂😂but seriously… the house is awesome Rachel! Congrats! 😁
The little snippets of Rachel and Nick’s relationship in this video just hit me RIGHT IN THE HEART ❤️
Considering the size of the house itself it's very likely that the original owners could afford and employed a maid, who would have used the staircase rather than the much grander, main staircase.
dude that explains why that other staircase is so wide
The new staircase is from 2003 though.
I think it's just the original stairs that got boarded up after the newer addition.
I appreciate the highs and lows: showing the joy in the new home and the grief of leaving the last. It’s just beautiful and human.
Your home is wonderful and you have a great adventure ahead of you as you make it your own!
who doesnt love living in an old abandoned farm house with ghosts thats the best stuff!!
The ghost crawl out of the “bread oven”
Wait! no one said anything about ghosts...
👀 Can they move out as well?
never for a second thought of this as bragging. bragging would be talking about how hAAArRrd it is to move from one mansion into an even bigger mansion. its wonderful to take a little tour around your forever project that's completely on brand being a historical property. best of luck with the carpet and kitchen projects, i'm sure you'll take us along for the ride!
Wouldn't the house have been smallish without the renovations? Would the people still have had servants? That's so interesting
that's what I thought as well.
I would have assumed it's from having moved the staircase as some point and that the stairs in the cupboard are what's left of the original ones. I wouldn't expect a farmhouse like this to have servants, without the more modern extention the house itself would be pretty small.
Hahaha I just posted this. We have a set boarded up in our old farmhouse, too.
Your 'tower room' should be your walk in wardrobe or an extention of your office. Congratulations Rachel. It's beautiful
absolutely! I dislike those tiny closets, this room would be way better
this!! small *and* split closets sounds like a nightmare and a surefire recipe for forgetting about things and making getting dressed an unpleasant process. put those books downstairs / in the offices and make a library nook, and give your clothes the clothing rack breathing space they deserve!
I instantly thought the same thing when I saw it she would need to move the radiator and put the giant mirror on that wall
i was thinking "that could be the new sunroom!" and also considering she's gonna put the stained glass window
Best wishes, never give up.
I will say, for most in the US, a house this size isn't necessarily "affordable" for people their/my age. I'd say they got lucky on location and having at least one decent income. Most live renting here too because it's what we can afford. :) I'm a dual citizen with Germany and I'd honestly rather be there any day. 😂
Okay, I thought so too. The USA a huge country and judging the whole property availability by one lucky pair is probably not fair. :D
Good on you for not apologizing about being unpacked! Sometimes shits is hard and we should honor that
As a person who lives in an old house to another, keep in mind carpets (or rugs) are great insulation.

@@thebigbadwolfe_27 we plan to install one, if we ever get around to updating our bathroom. We do have one in the downstairs shower.
I wonder if the "basement" in the barn was an icehouse? If your house predates electricity, a larger farm would have their own icehouse.

In regards to your Grandmother's house, think of it this way. Your family had lots of years to have important moments and create memories in that home, but now you have given a whole new family the chance to experience new memories and fall in love with the home. You have left your mark but it's time to see what a new family can add to those memories and imprints.

This brought tears to my eyes. What a lovely way to remember your first home.
Your new home and property is lovely! Looking forward to seeing some of the updates.

Rachel: “We are planning to keep the wallpaper at least for now”
Me, aloud: YAAAY!!! 😅
It’s so dang pretty and old fashioned. I was relieved to hear it’s fate, at least for now.
Your new home is so so beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on this journey with you! I dream of a home with a yard that large someday, and I love exploring old houses so much. 😻 Twas lovely!
And that she's keeping those beautiful beams in the barn! I just saw someone paint them white elsewhere and my heart died a little
Having a part of Rachel's life once a week is truly blissfull. These videos makes me so so happy and I know that I can feel safe in this little space of the internet and it just beings me such immense happiness. Thank you Rachel, for inviting us into a part of your life and being so generous with yourself.
that dress is absolutely perfect - the swirl, the flare, PERFECTION!
Rachel: "Cannot simply have a cat and have carpet,"
Me, who's only ever known about Frodo: "I'm sorry, you have a cat??"
LOL her cat Binks is delightful, but I had the exact same reaction a while ago when I found out hehe
Binks is a stealth ninja kitty - rarely seen on camera.
My cat Pippin agrees
I have carpet and 2 cats - one shreds everything he sees (but he is Siamese - DOH - smart choice there!!!) and the other a black and white moggie who loves the couch too much to destroy it....so cats are very individual!
She is an elusive creature
If you did renovation videos i would watch the hell out of them. The backyard is georgous, im so jealous lol
I can imagine this house with young kids running around, that's would be wholesome!
Five Acre Farm (it's a lot more than five but that's my Pops for you)
I named my farmhouse Open Door Farm, cuz I have an open door policy…drop by anytime…but also cuz there’s 14 doors on the ground floor alone!!!
Omg yes they have to name it!!! Something LOTR I'm sure! Or perhaps Darcy Acres??
Darcy Acres!!! Whether that’s what they go with or not, that is how I shall now refer to your home Rachel! 💖
It’s “The Shire” of course!!!
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL
This is definitely the kind of house I want, antique trash, stone and old dark wood.
as someone leaving grad school to move back in with her parents, i may slightly be living my house dreams vicariously through you in this video lol. congratulations, you deserve such an awesome and interesting house to make history in!
I’m living vicariously through video too 😂😂
Why did I laughed so damn hard at Frodo vigorously slurping water? It's just a doggo drinking water right? But something about that interruption hit me right in my giggles 😂😅
Fields, forrest, barn, hallways, balconys, a tower, and a dungeon!
Epic find.
Soo happy for you both.
I hope she keeps the bread oven ❤️
What a terrific home! I too have a historic home and totally understand the challenges you face. You have youth on your side and I'm sure are able to put in the work. Oh the fun you will have there! I look forward to seeing your renovations!
Ahhhh so exciting for y'all!!! As someone who also bought an old, "ugly" house with solid bones and refinished it in my personal flavor (medieval revival, D&D-core) it's amazing to see someone else exploring the same adventure!!! I love this for you guys and so excited to see the reno projects come along and what you make of the space!
Now I want to see your house 😅
Yeah now you have to do a house tour. Sorry it’s the rules 😂
I demand a house tour 😆 this sounds like me dream house lol
House tour! House tour! House tour!
Oh my gosh guys! I didn't even see this! Let me get this place tidied and in order and I might put something together!! 🥰🥰🥰 I love y'all's enthusiasm 😭
I love how happy your dog was ,running from room to room.
The house is so cool!! Also, multiple years worth of Maksy home renovation content sounds EXCELLENT.
I know, the amount of land and nature she acquired is a dream of mine. Just lovely.
@@hangoutwithme346 same!
