Thank you, Nava, for treating everyone to hot chocolate. You're a lucky young man, Cole. Having great family and friends willing to work in this weather. I can totally relate, the couple days of worm weather spoiled us. But it's back to reality for us. The basement is coming along great.
If you are going another 6ft up on the walls for a total of 14 ft. You might want to consider a 2 stage pour. I am a construction superintendent and we always would do multiple stage pours if a wall was over 8ft. The risk of a blow out increases greatly and to be able to vibrate the concrete mix at more than 8 ft is very hard. The basement addition is coming together and looking good
Hey Cole, I'm really enjoying watching you guys build this underground theater. I have some serious concerns tho regarding where your forms meet the existing house foundation. Its been my experience that's where you would scribe in a plywood form that we call a make-up form. That location is a major fail point if not constructed and braced properly. I'll be interested in seeing how this all works out for you. 2nd, your scaffolding planks should be 2" thick or a minimum of 2x12's. To prevent an accident. Don't Jerry rig where you're walking on your scaffolding. 3rd, you should be staggering your whaler 2x4's and not butting up the lengths of 2x4's. All in all. You guys are doing a fantastic job. Side note: it wouldn't hurt to have a local professional concert guy give your form work a once over before you pour. The pressures that concrete can exert are mind boggling. Best wishes.
I had to drive from Wisconsin to Missouri for a funeral this past Saturday. We stopped in Coralville, IA on Friday night. Woke up to ¼ inch of ice on our car Saturday morning. Broke the ice scraper trying to chip it off. The drive all the way to the state line was pretty sketchy. Glad you all are safe.
Four foot wide, 18 inch deep footings and enough rebar in the walls to hold up a bridge, this structure has to be a luxury family storm shelter. That would explain building it before finishing the house. That also would make sense considering the increasing severity of storms. There is no where to hide on a 2000 acre Iowa farm.
I think it's a nuclear attack refuge personally. I last took a class in structural engineering fifty years ago so I don't remember enough to do the math but those footings and walls look strong enough to hold up a ten story building. Interestingly I watched a video today that explained how home theater's are not a thing anymore.
I’m genially curious watching this build for years.. why not finish the inside of the house where it’s half way warm so you can move back in and then finish this movie theatre?? This has got to be the most extravagant farm house in the area 😂 but seriously.. why not the inside.
You forgot the part where when the concrete sets y’all have to take all those forms down and cart them all out of the pit and clean them, pack them up and send them on their way. I’ll be so glad to see them gone. That’s called progress.
Amazing seeing all this activity in raising the walls of the foundation. It all looks so impressed indeed! Much success in the pouring of the concrete. Love seeing something rising from one's imagination! 🥸
I am surprised that you don't have some flood lights and a tarp or at least heavy plastic sheet across the hole in the basement wall. I hope Roman is healing without stressing his arm too much.
Please don't make the wall crooket, Cole needs to straighten it out before pouring the concrete. The saying goes, measure twice before cuting! Cole, get on top of this before pouring the concrete! 😮
Didnt you say your grandpa's house was 4500 square feet?? The addition looks that big as well. Seems like a crazy big house for 2 adults and 2 kids on a farm!!
Cole i think this would have been cheaper to purchase a movie theater. I have a feeling it will not get used very much as your farming duties will be long hours.
Some plastic and some of those scrape 2x4s and the big hole in the basement is reduced to two flapper doors . Weight them down when not going in and out . Keeping the basement a bit warmer as well as the inside.
He could simply build a temporary wall with a doorway to close up that gaping hole in the foundation. It would keep some of the cold out and once the big snows come, keep snow out of the basement, too.
I love how Cole is learning the languages of his wife and his friend. There's no greater respect than showing true interest in the cultures of those you hold dear.❤
Great video. I remember last year when you had several people complaining about the lack of remodeling content and the channel turning into a “farming” channel. I thought, “Duh”, it IS a farming channel. I love the remodeling stuff but I like the farming>remodeling ratio more.
It's great to see the fourms going up! I can't wait for concrete day!! Download the SYMONS manuel for full installation details. Keep up the good work!
Cole it's a big job, It's going to take more than one pour. Get the out side walls or a wall done, don't worry about the inside walls. You can form and pour them later. This time of year you need to step it up!
@@johnsilvernale6472 Yes, heating is a concern if the weather outlook is bad. Just need to watch the weather and pour when the weather is above freezing and you will not have to heat the walls. A few hours below freezing at night is ok. First two days the concrete will create it's own heat, and if in the next three following days are in the high 30s maybe 40s you're good to pour.

I imagine you spent a dear penny on those custom boots. The absolute worst thing you can do to leather is treating it like neoprene. If you're gonna be in wet and mud all day, be sure to brush the dirt off those boots WELL before you go to work the next day. Let them dry completely, brush them again to remove all sand and grit, then oil them with neatsfoot oil. Never allow your boots to carry around dirt and mud. The fissures and natural cracks in the leather retain all that grit. And just like an abrasive wheel, prematurely chew up your boots. Cracks will develop everywhere dirt is allowed to reside. Oil them at least once a month. Take care of them Cole. Just because they were very expensive does not mean they're invincible. They'll only last longer if you maintain them.
