    Also, sorry for the double comment, but can we talk about the more Rose/Ruth becomes independent, the more attractive she gets? There's actually a beautiful, deep message in this whole movie:
    Petty and spite are the most powerful motivators on the planet.
    Also, self love or something.

    One thing I find really weird about this movie is just how many fully grown men hit on the daughter. She's like 12 years old and you have the photographer of the magazine taking pictures of her while she's posing in a bathing suit. And then you have Garcia dirty dancing that child to puberty. No, no.
    Why were these choices made? Who thought of this 😆
    What is interesting about the daughter though is her transition in wardrobe. She dresses very bland while living with her mother and dresses maturely when living with Mary (more makeup, done up hair, and lots of flowing outfits). She's directly emulating the women in her life through physical appearance until the end where she actually looks her age. She dresses in a simple white dress, bow in her hair, and I don't know how but looks more tiny standing next to her brother and father. Maybe I'm reaching but it's something I noticed

  • @thewebster3152
    @thewebster3152 Рік тому +66

    So watching this with adult eyes, I think I just spotted a dark theory here.
    I think Garcia was grooming Nicolette, let me explain
    In the first part of the film, Nicolette looks very tomboyish in the first act of the film. She never talks about boys or makeup but she is very smart in knowing that her dad is cheating on her mom. Or at least that is my guess because she seems to call out both of them on the subject ("Why, so he'll stay at home?" or "Are you sleeping here tonight?" and "That would be unusual."). Andy never says anything so I am not sure if he knew before or not. But with Nicolette, I notice that she matures throughout the film but in a very sexualized way. At the beginning, she is wearing a tomboy-like style but then when she goes to Marry's house, she suddenly starts wearing tight clothes. And yes, you can say its because her clothes are dirty, but even after Marry washes the clothes, she doesn't put on her tomboy two-piece look she had going on at the beginning. What she puts on is something color and very feminity. And throughout the film, Garcia does give glances to Nicolette. Her appearance also changes to look more like Marry, her hair is puffier, shes always in makeup, she wears Marry's clothes. Which is another thing, she wears colorful and more feminine colors in Marry's house, but never her own. She also in bathing suits a lot outside, even though the pool is inside. She didn't seem to mind the attention of the weird cameraman (Chris) was doing when he was taking pictures of her. Why is Chris taking pictures of a child in a bathing suit for a magazine interview!? That scene was also questionable! Where are those pictures, sir!? 👀
    Now with Garcia, I just notice that he is way to conferable around her. He does give her more attention in the scenes that they are in. Even the first part of meeting, you do see his eyes on her first before Ruth. It could be just the actor doing the scene that way but it looked odd. Plus his character is suppose to have radiant sexual tension and aura, and being that he touched her behind in the dance scene, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to do more with her behind her father's and Marry's back. And since her father isnt there nor cares, and Marry's just doesnt want to be bothered, it would be that hard for this man to try to influence Nicolette into something.
    And then she just suddenly snaps out of it in the end after Marry slapped her. She doesn't wear makeup anymore, her hair is back in a ponytail and not poofy, and she is acting like herself again. She reminds me strongly of Cicilly from Eve's Bayou. Both young girls, the oldest sister, who knows about their father's infidelity, but tries to ignore the problem and make light of it by maturing as women. Bith girls get slapped and have some sort of hurt trauma moment that calms them down a bit and return them to their original selves that we as the viewers saw at the beginning.

      @mychannelaboutnothing8343 Рік тому +3

      I like that take. It’s subtle, but I think it plays a big part in the message of the movie as well. The message being that there’s always someone younger and more naive. Notice how Bob was shocked to learn that Mary was 41, and from there we see him coming on to much younger looking women. Nicolette was smart, but young enough to still be naive and easily groomed.

    It's insane how women in the movie were crazy for Bob. In my view, he is not attractive, but it made him "attractive" in women's eyes due to his way of being a charmer and telling them what they want to hear. Although I enjoyed how Ruth received good karma at the end and became successful, Bob lost EVERYTHING. Also, was it just me, but Ruth left her kids with their father coldly. I would have found it hard to leave my kids behind, but it would have held Ruth back from her success. Girl, I enjoy your channel. Have you done a video on Menace to Society? Your commentary is truly enjoyable, you have a beautiful voice and a super clear English . As I am Italian I found it super funny the way you say "ciaooo" because we use ciao the same manner (no just to say hello but to also mean" what a.f "or "bye bye, leave me alone").

      She said "chile" which means "child". In the south, we (black American women) say it. It can mean many things. She may have meant "can you believe that?"

    I love the part when Mary tries to do laundry and starts pouring detergent, and bleach into the machine, and then throws some dryer sheets in there for good measure and here's the doorbell ring, breaks her nail after the lid slams down on it, and then in a kind of crying manner asks if someone's going to answer the door, then yells "IS SOMEONE GOING TO GET THE GD DOOR!" And the part where she's sitting in front of her vanity mirror in her bedroom looking at herself and moving the tip of her nose to see what it would look like if she had plastic surgery and is quietly mouthing "hi" in the mirror, then she realizes that it's hopeless and takes a handful of Valium

    Let me tell you.... She-Devil is my favorite movie of both Meryl Streep and Roseanne.
    Also, this is the best feel-good revenge movies, right up there with The First Wives Club!
    Also, I enjoy your movie commentaries! Keep up the good work
    Could you review:
    The First Wives Club
    How Stella Got Her Groove Back
    Disappearing Acts (a HBO movie based on a book by Terry McMillan)
    Addicted (based on a book by Zane)
    The Trois movies (especially Trois 2: Pandora's Box)
