We don't pressure them enough to rely on personality again. They hold close to this futuristic nothingness mindset, therefore never developing their own identity, hurting the brand and the mind's tastebuds of anyone who enjoyed them
And that little tusk arrow is actually very informative, it strikes a connection between the viewer and the logo itself, ensuring you know, full well, that the part of the logo overlapping from the elephant is, without a doubt, a tusk. Please do not complain about the fact the tusk is a different color, as in real life, the colors differ as well.
When I was in design class, I had this very super "by the book" teacher that was always rambling and rambling about how when we make iconography and logos we have to make it simple to understand and stuff, and he actually cited the adobe stuff like a perfect and well made example. I hate this "simplifying" trend so much. As an artist I love the originality and expression old logos had, heck, I remember Nickelodeon's logo and was fascinated by the use of the simple touch of a single color but the use of a dynamic shape, it made it stand out, and that's what you're suppossed to do as an artist, not make a "splash all the colors in there" logo but to work smarter with simple and less. Now this "make it simple" trend is killing the creativity so much because of the "corporate demand" to make it "easier to understand" is honestly insulting even as a consumer. You go to study shapes, colors, composition, and what you do? Put some base letters without a background, put two pallete of blue on a ridiculous dark blue (Adobe), is like they're not even trying anymore. Art is expression, and they're totally killing it.
wait, so actual university classes are encouraging this shit? thats screwed up honestly. it'd genuinely be great to see more logo designers take inspiration from what worked in the past than what the shitty trends are now. i sometimes like the minimalist aesthetic but 2016-onwards era corporate logos look as if they're made with the mindset that being simple will make it good, without thought into what makes a good simple logo. like, i kinda like a more minimalist aesthetic when its done properly and tastefully, like with 2007-2019 era dunkin donuts. theres no emboss, no weird shading, a small palette using only two colors on the logo with an extra color for the coffee and a white outline/backdrop. you can tell what they sell at a glance of the logo (coffee, donuts), and its fairly distinct due to the coffee drawing. its distinct and gives an indication of the product modern dunkin donuts completely FAILS to give an indication of what they're selling in any way, and looks exactly the same as every other shitty 2016-era logo. everything about the logo's identity goes down to the font and colors, which rely on the viewer to be familiar with the previous logo to make an association to "donuts and coffee". i'm canadian and i didnt recognize the logo to be "that american donut/coffee shop that has like two shops in our city because they're hopelessly outmatched by tim hortons in my country". i thought it was a basketball shop because the ONLY WAY YOU'D UNDERSTAND THE LOGO IS IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THE PREVIOUS LOGO. it feels like the corporate mfers literally just said "dont care, we basically own the world so we dont have to try anymore". i'm not buying your shit, dunkin. as much as i was personally not a fan of the skeuomorphic aesthetic trend from around 2008, seeing a logo that relies on that in modern year would actually attract a lot of attention than following a trend would. that applies to anything, really. following trends means you dont attract much attention to yourself, which can hurt a brand a lot when your logo designers have basically just become mindless sheep. as much as i love to shit on that weirdass pepsi logo rebrand document where its talking about moon physics, at least the pepsi logo's designers had enough braincells to come up with that weird moon-speak to justify a switch to a worse logo. "guh me simplify because pepsi and apple did it" so when the point of the logo is to create a brand identity that stands out, tell people what your product/service is about at a glance, and actually look decent, maybe its better to not always follow trends like a mindless sheep and try to come up with something smart. i think it'd be more valuable to teach people WHY trends are the way they are in a uni course, so that artists can know the right technique to breaking common trends. courses that just teach people how to follow trends are frankly boring.
Yeah cause speaking from a logistical viewpoint, the older logo's were complex. Difficult to transport and contain, now it's a v simple image so it's easy. Is the artistic value gone, yes. From a companies viewpoint though it's cheaper and easier. That's why it was done, corporate greed and because they could do it. Is a dunkin regular going to stop because the logo changes no, that's the problem.
Omfg same here. My sister opened a buisness and I made several logos that her business partner and friends loved but she decided to go with the 500$ coffee stain logo made by some asshole. It looked stupid and her business failed, most likely because of the dumb boring logo.

yeah he made it more complicated and intricate than the original.
I really like it actually. Very creative and actually to the point with the elephant. The text gives it more body as well.
------> tusk
Definitely better then.... Ani 3 al Planet 😆😆
Art is expression, and they're totally killing it.
wait, so actual university classes are encouraging this shit? thats screwed up honestly. it'd genuinely be great to see more logo designers take inspiration from what worked in the past than what the shitty trends are now. i sometimes like the minimalist aesthetic but 2016-onwards era corporate logos look as if they're made with the mindset that being simple will make it good, without thought into what makes a good simple logo.
like, i kinda like a more minimalist aesthetic when its done properly and tastefully, like with 2007-2019 era dunkin donuts. theres no emboss, no weird shading, a small palette using only two colors on the logo with an extra color for the coffee and a white outline/backdrop.
you can tell what they sell at a glance of the logo (coffee, donuts), and its fairly distinct due to the coffee drawing. its distinct and gives an indication of the product
modern dunkin donuts completely FAILS to give an indication of what they're selling in any way, and looks exactly the same as every other shitty 2016-era logo. everything about the logo's identity goes down to the font and colors, which rely on the viewer to be familiar with the previous logo to make an association to "donuts and coffee". i'm canadian and i didnt recognize the logo to be "that american donut/coffee shop that has like two shops in our city because they're hopelessly outmatched by tim hortons in my country". i thought it was a basketball shop because the ONLY WAY YOU'D UNDERSTAND THE LOGO IS IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THE PREVIOUS LOGO. it feels like the corporate mfers literally just said "dont care, we basically own the world so we dont have to try anymore". i'm not buying your shit, dunkin.
as much as i was personally not a fan of the skeuomorphic aesthetic trend from around 2008, seeing a logo that relies on that in modern year would actually attract a lot of attention than following a trend would. that applies to anything, really. following trends means you dont attract much attention to yourself, which can hurt a brand a lot when your logo designers have basically just become mindless sheep.
as much as i love to shit on that weirdass pepsi logo rebrand document where its talking about moon physics, at least the pepsi logo's designers had enough braincells to come up with that weird moon-speak to justify a switch to a worse logo. "guh me simplify because pepsi and apple did it"
so when the point of the logo is to create a brand identity that stands out, tell people what your product/service is about at a glance, and actually look decent, maybe its better to not always follow trends like a mindless sheep and try to come up with something smart. i think it'd be more valuable to teach people WHY trends are the way they are in a uni course, so that artists can know the right technique to breaking common trends. courses that just teach people how to follow trends are frankly boring.
It looked stupid and her business failed, most likely because of the dumb boring logo.
zzzzzzzz
