30 years I have been reading prints with my tape and you always use the 1' mark on the tape to start. 😜
Only a consummate furniture craftsman would put as much time and energy into Lindsay's and your kitchen cabinets. Congratulations on how great they will look when finished!
I’m concurrently building out my own custom kitchen, and it’s amazing how every added detail seems to have such a large impact at this stage of the build. It’s keeping me motivated, I can tell you that much!
This is how a kitchen should be made!
(2) months ago I would have not really paid attention to all of the details in this video!
I thought very little about the kitchen cabinet construction and than my home builder tried to install a "flat-packed" kitchen.
All of sudden, we had to come up with another 22K for something more in line with what you are building.
I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and wish my dad and Uncle Herb were alive to see them, too. But I especially enjoy seeing all your blueprints. My dad designed the house I grew up in and drew up all the plans by hand. He started out as a draftsman, eventually becoming a process and methods engineer in the aerospace industry. His whole career all the projects he and many others worked on were done without computers, using sliderules, protractors, rudimentary calculators. I still have some of his tools. A different time.
We always make the middle front of the hood removable that way its simple to hook everything up.
You know it is a custom fit when 8.8° is just right!
A mistake ? Well, now we know your human. I was beginning to wonder after all this time on the remodel. You should do a video of mistakes/outtakes for all us wannabe wood workers. Thanks for the slip up. Great job on the hood cover.
Matt, your work is so wonderful ! Don"t forget to put a time capsul in the wall !! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!! 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰 🥰
All I can think is Lindsey is a saint for putting up with the disruption for over two years and probably another year to go.
IKEA
Matt: As always a masterpiece.
I just want to share that this series has been an absolute joy and a source of inspiration for me. You are a treasure sweet little introverted Jesus cremona
man, your making headway..Doing things twice,,haa.i guess you have a vent for the hood range,,,oh its on top,,,my...thats special, haa carry on..great video Matt...
My brain is hurting from all that engineering- great job!
You're doing the building right, in checking and rechecking every step. It's going to be a very good looking kitchen.
🕊 Nice work as always. Great collaboration, too! I appreciate your style, humor, and dedication to family first. I look forward to your videos. God bless you and your family.
Hi Matt, I always enjoy watching you Saturday mornings. You are one of the skilled maker/woodworker that uses your shop that looks like mine when I finish a project. Keep up the sawdust!!! Timothy
Matt, your build videos are fascinating. Settings like an 8.8 angle and a 1/32 shim just cements in my mind that I am no way near the WW. I guess I am more utilitarian.
the quality of your work is amassing
I typically prime first, then caulk
You Know..........The Thing !!
Custom kitchen is coming along very nicely! Great work Matt
Thoroughly enjoying this series.
Well done!!!
How did you even up the door sizes?Aren’t the cabinets still the same size? Your skill is incredible. Love watching your videos.
Left cabinet got 4” narrower; right cabinet got 4” wider
A couple of more items checked off the list of cabinets to build another step closer to completion. Looking good Matt.
Looking better & better as you build Matthew. Actually, I'm looking forward to the actual finished project. Keep up the great work.
Love the information and the good humor.
I call the bottom rail/ledge a light rail. Hides the bottom light apparatus.
Good Morning Cremona Family.
Wow, I can't believe the spray has worked outside with snow on the ground.
You must have very dry air coming through your compressor.
My lesson for the day: You can say "when it comes back from paint" even if you do the painting yourself on the premises. 😆
That hood surround turned out to be a bit complicated. Great job.
very nice.great job
Hello Mathew, maybe I missed it in some of your earlier videos, What is your academic/training background? You certainly have a great understanding of carpentry, metal work, construction and indeed many other things. You can interpreter furniture/builtin schematics and I find all this quite amazing given your young age.
It’ll be still beautiful don’t beat yourself up to much over the measurement situation 14:17, luckily it wasn’t very far off and you can work with it still
They look great Matt. Hope the wall is strong enough to hold the weight….haha! Congratulations!
I made one of those range hoods from ship lap for a customer from exhaust to ceiling with crown! I quoted a price and stuck to it loosing money! They can be a tad difficult if the ceiling is out cabinets are not put in by you ! That’s where I lost time!
From now on I buy plans and leave options open!
Yours looks good!
One think I make sure to tell them now... Is the custom item has an estimated cost. I lost some serious $$ on a project for a customer... Who later sold my item at the actual cost! Needless to say... I don't work for that client anymore!
As always nice work!
Looks amazing
Nice work ❤
Nice work!
Good job Matt :)
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Nice work Matt. Love the vent hood details. Curious about why not making it slightly pop forward at the top to create a crown moulding step and not having to worry about flush sanding. Is it just down to straight crown across the whole upper stretch more your vibe?
I appreciate quality work Matt
Nice work Matt
Awesome stuff Matt! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
Beautiful work. It is most definitely coming along.
And you will have a lot more things to do. Job well done. Thank you for sharing.😊
Right fine vent hood, Matt 👍
You did that well.
"...thing...thingy...thingamajig..." Impressive...
Amazing what 1/8 of an inch on a diagram can do.
So, what you were saying is, the center thing a bob sticking out of the wall, being 1/16th off scale, is actually 3 inches off center? Therefore the left cabinets had to be made 3 inches smaller and the right cabinets were made 3 inches longer. Wow, good catch and recovery, great video and thanks for sharing Matt!
Would have been a better catch if I caught it in August when I laid out the cabinets 😂
@@mcremonaeasier to just move the plumbing to correct spot?
The plumbing needs to move too
The 6” or so off on the pot filler should have been your designer’s call. Typically the plumbing is coordinated with the cabinetry by the person who did the drawings. Being a DIY’er you probably are responsible for your own coordination. But doing is learning. Great catch and not too difficult to center your pit filler before tile and countertops are in. I would recommend offsetting the pot filler to reach the burners you think you’ll use it for. Personally I never use my right back burner to boil water. It may be the opportunity to take the planning one step further for your customized needs. You can move it where you need it now.
That’s going to be one of those things that we won’t know until we start using the kitchen. We have a 2 burner stove now and will be going to a 6 burner
The whole cabinet setup looks great. Thank you for sharing the OOP’s moments too as it’s nice to see how you recover from those moments and what it takes to continue moving forward. The vent surround really turned out looking like a piece of furniture when it was nestled between the two side cabinet face frames. I noticed that you use Gorilla Glue most of the time. Do you like that brand better than Tightbond or is it just what you had and both work for various assembly jobs? Also, I noticed that you always ease the edges of the boards where hands could rub against them. A lot of newbie woodworkers may not realize how sharp an edge is on hardwood and they can cause severe cuts if the edges aren’t sanded or eased to soften them from the sharp edge.
your master Matthew
Sweet! Does the cold weather interfere with the paint drying?
man, I had PTSD when the plumbing was in the wrong place. That first trip back to the prints was sweaty, I'm sure.
My favorite is when the laser is right, but the floor isn't and the base needs to be level (or the crown)
I am really enjoying your build series and everything else you do. A crazy thought is when you are done with the total project not just the kitchen is how many biscuits did you use
I often wonder the same thing!
I’m coming up on a full case of 5x30 dominos
@@mcremona how many I a case
I learn a new technique, method or procedure (I don't like the word "trick" in this sense) from each installment/video.
Looking great!
Check with your code office on whether you need the ducting to be inspected.
Its becoming an issue ,often doors or hinged panel are needed for the inspector's head.
Access panel, yes, that is sometimes something that comes up. I’ve also gotten comments about the requirement for a make-up air unit. Definitely check with your local code enforcement department. You can always say “asking for a friend” 😉
I wrote the same thing in Florida you have to have access from the front of the hood and it's easier to hook it all up.
@seancasey2444 yep, also if you need to fix it when a part fails.
What computer program do you use for designing all of your projects? I still do mine by hand but would like to start using the computer to do it. Amazing job by the way.
I love the cabinets for Matt's addition... However, I'm not a fan of white everything. I would most likely paint the MDF the color used in the pantry and just cleared all the maple... But, that's just me.
❤
👍👍👍👍👍
Battery...cu tomorrow
Het Matt, I think you may have mentioned it in a previous video but what type of MDF are you using for your beaded panels ? Things are really coming along and looking great.
Medite; thanks!
Thank you for your very quick response. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. @@mcremona
Matt, no matter how I ask this it will be perceived as criticism by some but it’s really born from curiosity. What was the rationale behind angling the hood surround? Apart from breaking up a uniform flat front it doesn’t add anything aesthetically. It doesn’t make the build more efficient (it actually makes it much more complicated). It also doesn’t improve the door swing of the cabinets that flank it. If you had simply boxed it you could have used doors on the front to allow for an adjustable/removable shelf (with a cutout for the vent pipe) above the hood for additional storage and future maintenance access. Was this something Lindsay wanted or was it a kitchen architect thingy or something else entirely? It still looks great but inquiring minds want to know…
personally I'm good with questioning the content. 99% of people are just all praises and it's not constructive. different opinions and suggestions and criticisms are better for the dialogue as long as they are polite. not to say that praises aren't constructive as a reinforcement of the work it's just not as engaging to say great job to everything no matter what, for those type of viewers it's just entertainment. Other types of viewers come to learn something and may question decisions for their understanding if they are in a similar situation seeking a solution.
It’s pretty common for the hood to have a slope/taper/some kind of angularity. I think having it be a rectangle and stepping completely forward of the cabinet faces would look really boxy and inelegant. As far as storage goes, there won’t be much useful space after the duct jogs over to the outlet
@@mcremona Matt Cremona doing something “common”?! What have you done with the real Matt? 🤪
Can the power supply for the lighting be enclosed in the chase you designed safely (from a fire safety standpoint)? Can you access the chase if it ever needs service or replacement?
Yes and yes
Another great video for my Saturday morning on the exercise bike.
Just out curiosity, between the trim and the cabinets, any estimate on number of domino used in just the ktichen?
Currently 1500 5x30 between the floor, trim, and cabinets
I just paid 30K to have a similar kitchen built and installed, not including granite, backsplash, appliances, etc. The range hood with 12' ceilings was the most interesting.
A while ago I worked on one where the cabinet budget was $40k alone!!! And you still had to put them together 🤦
Jees, I feel a little better! These were brought in by the cabinet maker and then all the doors and draws, and hardware were installed over the course of three days.@@OldsmobileCutlass1969Va
Matt, can you post the specs for the undershelf light system? Many thanks.

Hey Matt why didn’t you make a jig to cut your hinges out for the trimmer?
Gives me an excuse to do some woodworking that I enjoy
Great job. What is the brand of the green-handled f style clamps?
Masterforce from Menards
that's what I thought,,,,thanks
Matt...how has the Domino held up over this long project and likely thousands of mortises...same cutter? Same Domino?? Talk about product testing.....
Kool Cabinets! Why are you keeping Pancake from any screen time? Why? Seems cruel to me!
Are you warming that paint before you spray. Looks like you got that Q4/paint dialed in.
It’s at room temp as is the part being sprayed
@@mcremona Plus it has been unseasonably warm, ‘cause they knew you would be spraying outside this year, LOL
Hi Matt, Could you tell me what kind of paint you are using and did you have to thin it? I have a Fuji Semi Pro 2 and it seems underpowered to spray normal latex paint without significantly thinning it. I’m wondering if I need to upgrade to a more powerful unit. Thanks!😊

Start using push sticks on your table saw
I've been working with machines for 60 years, and am proud to still have 10 fingers
Had a couple of near missed 🤪
Got one finger with a very handy 30 degree angle 🙄
Iit only takes a moments distraction and there goes your finger 🫣
That’s true of whether you’re using a push stick or not
While I agree you should use push sticks if you can’t fit your whole hand between the blade and fence, he’s got a SawStop table saw so at worst he’s losing a little chunk, not a full finger.
Did you also have to remake/adjust the lower drawer boxes?
I haven’t built the drawers yet
oops, I meant the carcasses, like narrowing the one on the left. Anyway, looks amazing and I enjoy your good humor about such a huge project. @@mcremona
Both lowers need to be adjusted. I remade the faceframes at 13:17
What’s the trick of spray painting outside in the winter. I though it would be too cold.
Be quick
@@mcremona ok but do you bring it right back inside to dry where it’s warm

I may have missed it, but what are the metal strips that you are inlaying for?
I think those are buss bar for powering the under cabinet lights.

I noticed you use the gorilla glue instead of titebond glues, do you think it’s better?
It just confuses people better

why are you using MDF instead of regular wood throughout the project? Especially in a semi wet enviornment and an area that might see more abuse like the kitchen?
Matt is using Armorite it is a exterior rated Mdf made for outside use as well as kitchens and bathrooms
Also I don’t have to allow for wood movement
@@mcremona at least for the next 25 years, when 'somebody' wants to re-do the kitchen...
Please remove the hoodie strings from it on all hoodies you use with power tools, especially table saw without guard. If those strings get sucked in the saw they will pull your head down towards the blade. Very dangerous. I had one sucked in by leaf blower fan and got lucky . But then I realized how many times I cut on the tablesaw just like you.
What are your thoughts that the US is the only country on this planet that still uses imperial measurements?
It's weird to see fractions instead of mm's.
That’s the only thing that I don’t like about imperial.
But the US isn’t the only country using imperial measurements. The Canadians use a mix of both systems, for example.
@@mcarendt wrong....Canada is 'officially' a metric country...some people use imperial in Canada because of laziness and living so close to the States....
@@SRM_NZ not wrong - nothing was said about “official” use. I’ve not really seen any Canadian carpenter use metric for the measurements, so unless they’re going out of their way to pull an American audience, I’d conclude they’re using both. If the concern is purely “official” use, the list for imperial is the US, Liberia, and Myanmar.
