Dude! I watched this yesterday for the first time since I'm building my own Roubo. Then I get home and crack open my new FW Tools and Shops edition and am like "I know that bench!" Crazy coincidence. Congrats on getting published! Stellar bench!
Dude, your sense of humor and concise explanations, plus good editing made that a great explanatory video, but also entertaining. Nice bench and nice work! If the music was a bit quieter, it would help. Still very good though.
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen. Interesting to see a Roubo set up for a left hander, it confirms my thoughts for my soon to be built workbench. Re. Music, it doesn’t sound like we’re really in your workshop with you rather on the outside looking in. That said I have subscribed and look forward to more

Great videos, thanks Courtney. I'm interested in building my own bench in the next year and have been looking at a lot of Roubo videos. I've thought that it would be a good idea to put my leg vise on the front right leg of the bench as I'm left-handed and I'm pleased to see that you're left handed and did that too. I hope I make a bench 1/10th as good as this!
I vacillate between this design and the latest Schwarz release of the Anarchist Workbench. I like the idea of a non-split top which leads me towards the anarchist bench but then I really like the idea of a dog hole and wagon vide set up which leads me back to the benchcrafter roubo. This is a gorgeous split top though, well done.
Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/BtEJATZ-Oa4/v-deo.html. You can see how I made the gap stop and towards the end where I put it in you can see the horizontal rails that it sits on top of. Let me know if this answers your question!
@@StarrWoodworks Thanks. I am building a work bench for my daughter, I have two with Emmert vices for my woodshop but they are on a different style bench. I milled ash trees on my Norwood bandsaw mill for the top and poplar for the frame.
I have reached the culmination of finally assembling the bench build. The slabs are assembled, every part is mortised, and both the tail and bench vise are installed. Before i assemble this beast, I want to plane, sand, chamfer, and apply preliminary finish. The species of wood for both the base and tops is ash. Hence my question. Could you share what product you used to finish the top portion of your bench. I do prefer to retain the natural look of the ash. Thanks.
Go with Osmo 1101 extra thin. Just one coat should be fine. It will give it nice protection, beautiful look, and MOST importantly it will not be shiny or slippery. DO NOT sand the top of your bench smooth. You want it to be grippy. If you already have, no worries, just sand it again using 80 grit sand paper.
@@StarrWoodworks Yes I’m making a split roubo that’s an alteration to the bench Tom McLaughlin, Epic Woodworking built. Tom’s design has a tool tray that I dont want. The split style will be easier for me to handle too. I’m using Hobarter vises, ash top. I didnt notice how you made the split section insert. Do you have photos of how it goes up and down? Not many of us lefties in woodworking!
Do you find you benefit from having the bench in a left handed orientation? Ive only ever used right handed benches. This is definitely better set up for planing left handed. Has it proved useful in other ways?
I would much rather hear your speaking and not have to tune out the music to hear you.. Besides.. Not everyone enjoys others choice of music.. Enjoyed the video.. Was really wondering what the Gap Stop was all about.. Thank You..
I see that you posit a question about, "What is a Roubo Split Top workbench?. So you showed us a leg vise, that you put your leg into, hahahaha. Then a tail vise, where you sat to squeeze your tail,... again hahaha. Then you showed us lag screws and bolts the hold your bench together, oh... and an ancient invention.. called a shelf. It's all very Purdy, but I'm still wondering,... what's the purpose of the split top???? Is that where you lose your tools, or are the wood chips supposed to fall off the workbench down into the drawers and shelf. Two guys work across the split top and share the tools??? So... WHAT WHAT WHAT IS A ROUBO SPLIT TOP. ??????
what a horrible music background over quiet talking.
Well if you ever want to watch a woodworking video on date night, this one is actually perfect.
Gotta match the music to the stache
If you can't say anything nice.... maybe you shouldn't say anything at all.
I seriously love the music. Jazz and woodworking dovetail well. Pun intended
Womp womp.
Finally! A woodworker that puts the vises in the “correct” orientation on the workbench. Southpaws are the only ones in their “right minds” 😁.
Don't be quiet, it's just the right amount of commentary and humor. Beautiful bench, keep it up!
Just gonna call you Shawn for some reason...amazing workbench Shawn, respect!
Thanks Mike!
A new bench is on my list of things to build this winter. Thanks for the info, you did a very good job!
This is one outstanding video
So great working bench

Simply Amazing... Always wondered why everyone in the wood community had a bench like this.
Beautiful bench Courtney 👍😊just finished mine. Good job 👍
This is beautiful and I want to build one. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome bench
Best of luck, great video keep it up
A left handed woodworker! Feel like I just stumbled across a very rare Pokemon
🕺
Cool. Sure does help with the written captions to all the technical jargons used to describe the parts of the roubo workbench .
You're a goofball. That's my kinda guy. Subbed!
Great video

Great series! Really enjoyed it.

I like the lefty configuration.
Great video, keep it up!
Thanks Jason 🙌
Words... good.... more... make!
haha, noted.

Lefties for the win! You can do it!!
Im going to have to watch this series, i am i. The process of designing and building a bench
Very nice.
Great overview! (Lower volume on music or no music at all would have made it even better)
Beautifull. Thanks
Amazing!
Keep it up!!
Well explained, thank you.

I feel ya! I mostly like the split top because it makes it easier to make and move by dividing the weight into two pieces.
@@StarrWoodworks I hear yeah. All these videos left me wanting a longer edit. Really well done!
New subscriber here but I’d say keep talking... and nice job on the BC bench. It’s a heck of a project.
that jazz music is trying to strangle him
Great video! Any thoughts on the build from softwood?? I’m contemplating if I can use pine.. or go no ha heavier harder wood
Yellow Pine would be fine! The base of mine is Pine, but the top being Pine would be ok too.
It would be helpful for you to pull the center board all the way out so we can see the details of how it is supported at the two levels,

Are you left handed? I am and I’m making my bench like yours with the leg vise in the right side.
I am. You making a roubo? Or some other style?

Game changer as a lefty!
Liked the video. Also cool watch you're wearing, what's the name of it?
It’s an old Swiss army!
Love the plans posted on the wall. Where do you get those?
online12plus they’re old blue prints from a local reuse store called the scrap exchange.
Hey I love your architect drawings on your wall! How did you cover your wall with the drawings? Did u laminate them? Or glue them? Pls let me know
They're old Durham blueprints pinned to the wall with thumbtacks.
Lefties rise up. ✊
Great workbench and mustache! Do you work in the adult film industry as your day job?
It gives a whole new meaning to the term “woodworker”
keep talking dude, this was a great video
Just found your channel… enjoy all the tips BUT the background music is too loud and distracting. Cheers!
Left handed?
South paw reporting for duty!
@@StarrWoodworks I’m just used to working on right handed tools as a lefty, but I think this convinced me to build my bench left handed. Thanks!

Un banco para zurdos!!!
Don't understand why you chose to talk over the muzak.
How tall are you?
Who listens to sax only music, it's like being in an elevator
ка поставить дважды лайк?!? супер!
Good videos; however, the background music is too loud as compared to your voice pitch…
The contend was verry interesting but it was hard to undestand due to useless loud Music.
Thanks for the feedback.
Please reupload without music. We do appreciate workshop noises. And it’s easier to focus on your commentary. Thanks

Excellent video, terrible music. The only thing wrong with this bench is the price ;)
This probably would’ve been a great video if we could hear you over the music. Hope all your videos aren’t like this
The background music is annoying. Why did you think we need that? If I wanted music, I would have provided my own.
Not a great idea to play music while you are narrating the video.
The unnecessary music drowns out your voice.
Background music ruins video.
I am interested in getting you to build me a bench. Please contact me.
