I was a member of this club in 1963/65. I was the youngest member and introduced latex molding to the scenery after visiting John Allen's layout on Monterey. Good to see it's completed. Nice work!
After you enter the tunnel skip forward to 3:44...............you will miss all the under the baseboard stuff in darkness and the wiring. To give credit though, the rest of the layout is wonderful and the builders and operators are to be congratulated for what the have achieved.
I came in to possession of the Feb 88 MR backissue over the weekend, and I followed along to your video with the trackplan on page 73! Very nice to see that this layout is still running (30 years later...) and the M.F. Kotowski artwork is outstanding!
Fantastic!! The rock details and the overall detailing of the layout is VERY impressive!!! I loved the ride, except for a couple of long tunnels. I really loved the different elevations...and the awesome bridges!! Thanks for sharing!! Your club has done a wonderful job with this layout.
That was an awesome tour of a neat layout! I enjoyed the many levels and the way the track winds around, in and out. It was fun trying to link the scenes. Thanks for posting!
I like the LED lamps in all the tunnels. A lot of people cut the stagings out, but I think that takes away half the fun. I like to see the train come out of the tunnel into a brand new "Land".
Great looking layout. I love the rock faces. Nice track too. Pulling the camera car instead of pushing it is also a nice change from the norm and a far more interesting view. Starting off with more than three minutes of non-scenic running under the layout doesn't make a very good first impression though.
Fantastic! What a layout! Love the video except for that one guy who just couldn't keep his mug out of the video. There is always one like that. Too bad. Thanks to all the members for such a great club.
What a fantastic trip! The scenery and backdrops are so realistic. It's a shame that when making this demo video the old guys couldn't keep quiet and out of sight for just under 25 minutes especially the one who kept popping his head into tunnel exits to see if the train was coming. THE TRAIN IS COMING! EXTREMELY ANNOYING!! There is hopefully still an element of imagination left in model railroading. Best layout anywhere.
Wonderful railroad, very well done video. Very nice scenery and buildings. Thanks for retaining video of the hidden trackage, it reveals construction methods relevant for anyone building a layout. The altitude change is very impressive, what is amount of height change?
Beautiful, I own several Fairbanks Morse locomotives. Very nice to see you display them as features during this tour of your layout *wink* (I am also very proud of mine).
Sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Ryder Julien i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Great, but there must be more, no? Some of the absolute best rock modeling I've seen in any of these vids. The tunnel ends finishing is really classy, not seen that much. How come no low height tell tails? Nice track side details.
have you fellas ever considered uniform power busses for the wiring below the lay out? It would greatly reduce the amount of wire clutter and make it easier to repair and locate faults. you could arrange the busses according to the voltage required for each component.
Yes they are. The ones over the loops at each end of the layout determine positions for 2 trains per track; there are 3 tracks at each end. Then there are a few storage tracks/spurs, so the sensors mark the end of the track.
+Jonny Beck Thank you. I am not sure the actual measurement of the climb, about 4-5 feet on the main line, 6-8 feet on the branch line. As for the location, please read the description above.
DCC is a wonderful thing for the flexibility it now gives us in operating trains and equipment. Certainly the ability to programme individual locomotives and to run them either separately or together makes things easy. On personal note though I do have some misgivings about sound. I find that in many instances it is overused......and its noise can sometimes spoil the simple appreciation of just watching trains run around, clattering over rail joints and points as they go...............and encouraging onlookers in their conversations with each other or the layout operators. Many exhibitions these days are just far too noisy with locomotive sounds overwhelming everything. You should be able to hear sound, if it is used, only when close to a layout and not far across the exhibition hall. .......and don't get me started on the excessive use of whistles and horns.......... horns in particular..! I sometimes wonder if there are those who fit the largest speakers they can to locomotives and turn up the sound to the fullest volume. Some years ago I first came across sound at an exhibition where the layout was 'OO' gauge and featured a German 012 Pacific. I thought it was wonderful, as the sound featured everything from the locomotive moving, to air pumps operating, to coal being shoveled.............. HOWEVER.........the sound was local to the layout and could only be heard when standing close by it. If I closed my eyes I was back in Germany in the 1960's and 70's where I watched and travelled on the DB 012 Pacifics on the Hamburg - Westerland line and the Rhiene - Nordeicch line. Thrash beyond imagination....!
Amazing looking layout!! I also think the camera back a few cars is a unique & interesting view, personally I dig it however, your entire layout is so detailled; the rock faces & cliffs especially so, it's why I can't understand your choice of not stringing your barbed wire fences (really obvious @ 15:34 - 17:56). Also at the same time frame your power poles, why have any at all if they're going to stand bare even when they clearly have insulators mounted? Apologies for my criticism but, this is among the most scenic & detailled layouts on YT that I've seen, those 2 issues alone, imo, are very glaring & so inexpensive to accomplish and give a layout a finished appearance. Just looks cheap & cheesy when power poles have no wires & fence posts stand bare. Otherwise a great video & I could care less some get bent outta shape over what exactly a cab ride video is. Ya'll accomplish the same thing imo, personally I don't mind not having the cab interior blocking my view. Thanks for sharing your incredible layout, it truly is sweet & it's a great video.
On this video, as with some others, I could do without 3 minute rides through plywood tunnels and/or staging tracks, perhaps editing them out. Great layout none the less.
Beautiful Layout but I'd rather you had edited out the inside of the tunnels. Otherwise I like the view from this car. Not a cabride but I think it is just as good or better. Everyone has the "cab view" but this is good to.
@Aussie Pom Best way to get almost a cab view is place the Camera Car in front of the loco, at least you can see the track, switches and a better view over all looking forward.
Very nice scenic ... is someone else going to do the layout with tent communities in the cities, human feces on the streets and the smiling faces of the political representatives among you ignoring their own while wanting to bring in more immigrants and taking care of them?

Fantastic layout! 8), all the place names give me fond memories of visiting Oregon. Best wishes
Love the scenery and all the elevation changes in the space available. Great ideas before my son and I start our next layout. Thanks for sharing
Great and excellent job with the layout and scenery......enjoyed the ride!

Superb layout. The rock detail is outstanding.
Thanks for the mighty fine train ride, I thoroughly enjoyed it! :-)
Nice ride on the train. Thanks for showing us the layout.

Love the rotary dial phone at about 7:30.

Looks great, liked the surf backdrop...
very pretty looking cliffs you got there
Beautiful. A great way to take in the terrific scenery. I like the camera being a couple cars back.
awesome ride! I enjoy the look at the underside of a layout too. it gives me insight on improvements or future ideas for my layouts, thanks again!
Hey Chaps, It is Great ! I love it. Beautiful Model Landscapes and Sound of Model Train. Look Like Real 100% !!
Very impressive layout.
2nd time around... I've come to appreciate the camera mic picking up the sound of
the wheels "rollin' merrily along"
cheers
I love this railroad. I shared this video with the guys in my round robin group.
Fantastic build guys. Always love on board cams 🤓
Fantastic! What a layout! Love the video except for that one guy who just couldn't keep his mug out of the video. There is always one like that. Too bad. Thanks to all the members for such a great club.
Ahhhh. Lots of shiny guard and wing rails . . . . .
Beautiful model railroad.
Nice video and fun to watch. Take care now.

Wow. Co.pletely finished inside tunnels.
Thank you very much for this. Now I don't feel nearly as bad about my wiring!

@Ryder Julien It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@Sam Bobby Happy to help :D
very nice touch in the end..
What a great layout. Be cool if you could get one of the ATSF GP30s POV
Simple exquisite layout.
If you are filming a ride thru would it be possible to hide all the grownups for a few minutes? Your setup is absolutely incredible.
Awesome work by the way.
Nice trip! Do you have a vid going up the dual gauge track?
Greeeeeeeatt !!
All the track is hand made? It looks spectacular
Great, but there must be more, no?
Some of the absolute best rock modeling I've seen in any of these vids.

Departing Aromas @13:24 'whew' that's a long way down (!) 🤔
That is impressive!
Nice work.
great video , great work !!!!! i like this.
I am wondering how all the rails are cleaned on such a huge layout and all the sidings? ,Cheers,Retired Aussie in Peru. Great video...ta!
7:20 I got so lost in the scenery, when the phone appeared, I momentarily thought it was a giant phone on the side of a building.
Great video
And just where is the cab ride, they are usually views from inside the cab looking forward,
BEAUTIFUL
What type of camera are you using. Would like to get one for my layout. Your layout is just great.
love the layout
But, what happened to Central City, Jimtown, and Gunnison? ;-)
are the lights on the gallows affairs under the layout to illuminate optical detectors? If so what is the purpose of the detectors?
Yes they are. The ones over the loops at each end of the layout determine positions for 2 trains per track; there are 3 tracks at each end. Then there are a few storage tracks/spurs, so the sensors mark the end of the track.
Really cool! So just how far do we climb in this footage? I also love the switchers!
How close to L.A. are y'all and do you ever have open houses?
+Jonny Beck Thank you. I am not sure the actual measurement of the climb, about 4-5 feet on the main line, 6-8 feet on the branch line. As for the location, please read the description above.

swear i can hear that steam locomotive entire time saying i think i can i think i can i think i can

I had tyco and atlas train sets as a boy

Awesome

Superb RR. You need to add more figures. Your stations and towns look deserted. Not a cab ride. A hobo ride.
That engine seems to have some valve issues!
cool
Formidable
I love it WEED SEED, and you never put any scenery in to show spilt weed seed.
nice work but too much wire clutter
What is the ethnic make up of your workmen for this layout
Nice layout, but it's not a cab ride!
@Aussie Pom Best way to get almost a cab view is place the Camera Car in front of the loco, at least you can see the track, switches and a better view over all looking forward.
Conversely, I was going to comment on the caboose view giving a better perspective than pushing the camera car in front of the engine. Like it a lot!
Good Lord if ya went any slower you'd be backing up. Give it some gas for Heaven's sake.
The speed wuz perfect!
For a 60 year build this is a very bad result...
Very nice scenic ... is someone else going to do the layout with tent communities in the cities, human feces on the streets and the smiling faces of the political representatives among you ignoring their own while wanting to bring in more immigrants and taking care of them?
