- Have you ever wondered where your state stacks up when ranking the most dangerous? The Most Violent? These are kind of the same, but some studies include things like highway safety, workplace injuries, and a few other things.
We aren't looking at that today; we are only looking at violence.
Before you call a realtor and start looking for real estate, you need to watch this video.
Violent crimes don't just affect the victims. Crime stats affect real estate prices, tax burdens, jobs, and a bunch of other things.

The next problem is that "Healthy" is a no longer a achievable goal if you follow the American Nutrition association and USDA: United States Department of Agriculture as all "What to eat" food lists are based around epidemiological and observational review which, when it comes to research... Epidemiology and observational research is the weakest form of research because its unable to show case cause and effect or causation... So everything you read off Google is bullshit, bought and paid for and created to benefit someone else's pockets, this is why "Red meat/Saturated fat" is still demonized and thought of as bad when in reality it's the healthiest food group you could consume.
The next issue is what labs are you basing health off? Most labs don't reflect health... Look at blood tests, The medical community is always moving the goal post of what's healthy and what is when it comes to reference ranges. So let's say your blood lab for a liver test is suppose to be within 50, Well 20 years ago that 50 was once 30... If you were below 23 you were considered healthy, but now if your under 50 you're considered healthy which,the medical community does this because the general public is getting sicker and sicker due to the foods we eat, instead of creating updated guidelines and messing up the cheques they receive from coke, cereal industry, sugar industry and big Pharma... They'd rather just move the goal post up so you think you're considered healthy. Rule of thumb... If you're eating outside of your natural ancestor diet which is animal based, you're not healthy
I don’t know how accurate that would be considering big hospitals, like the Mayo Clinic, receive patients from around the country.

As someone from MA i can see both sides. Theyre all very similar but also just different enough that those difference would still be quite obvious to locals.

I don’t know where you live in NJ but I live near the Meadowlands and I watch many breaking laws right in front of police officers and nothing being done, it looks like higher ups tell them to stand down and it’s sickening !!

@@davidhoj Couldn't be more true. There are some areas in NJ where literally NOTHING happens. Newark, Paterson, Camden (some areas close to NYC) are the ones with a significant amount of problems including crime.
@@christopherencalada3002 Very true. I live in western Atlantic county, work in Vineland. Most of the time when police are called to my neighborhood is either a medical emergency or domestic disputes. Or my stupid yuppie neighbors 2 houses down burn their dinner and call fire department 🤣🤣🤣

As an Arkansas native I can confirm these woods are dangerous. Currently we reside in Missouri on the Arkansas/Missouri state line in a tiny village. Population 135. This weekend a guy got shot in the stomach and nobody called the law. The guy had to walk to his grandmas house to get a ride to the hospital because nobody cared enough to report the gunshot or call an ambulance. The Ozarks are not a place you want to be acting foolish.

Still there are more Red states on top of the crime rates list than blue states. There are so many bad people in those states you need to have a gun to protect yourself. Sometimes you find them in a mirror.

Having lived in New Mexico for a majority of my life, I can say that (to borrow a phrase) if stupidity was food, the people there would be well over 1000 lbs, with an abundance of leftovers, enough in fact, to give some to another state.
I'm currently visiting, and I'm sad to say it's getting worse.

I was surprised by Kentucky, California, Texas and Montana on the list. Other evidence based objective data that I read ranks these top especially California and Texas and that's with dividing by their populations. ( Montana is the exception)Michigan may have done better but so many seniors list Florida as their residents and Michigan has their 2nd home due to taxes reasons. I also wonder how much crime goes unreported by California and Texas too. One thing that I know, California keeps delaying and sometimes not releasing their violent crime data to the FBI, including this year. You can Google media articles about that. At times, California will just release soft crime data. Nm

As a retired cop I need to point out that, the problem with these statistics, is that the higher ups in these cities and states modified how they reported crimes to make them look better. If they didn't, they would not get their bonuses!😮
I lived in Anchorage for 22 years and moved to Washington when a friend was killed in a triple homicide robbery. Anchorage is definitely a mean city!

I'm from New Jersey, and people outside of the state have pretty negative perceptions of us. I'm glad you set the record straight!
I also want to point out that New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the country, and we still have very low levels of violent crime. This is an awesome little place, don't listen to the stereotypes and the haters!

Safety, aside from cost, is my most important factor when considering where to live.
Unfortunately, the USA overall is one of the least safest and most expensive among the developed countries. Even the best areas here are garbage compared to other parts of the world.

Crime Would Be Drastically Lowered Overall, If It Wasn't For The Ongoing ThugaCron, ThugaPox Pandemic.
Fun "fact" - we moved to Idaho and watched the news at 5 the first day. Where we came from, the local news was at 5 but had a sort of good news thing at 4. And sometimes later at 9 they would so local school athletes, etc. They talked about the zoo, and similar type stories. When it was over I asked a friend if this was the normal news. She said, "Pretty much." I was like, "No murders or robberies?" I was in shock. Finally had a murder - someone didn't want to pay their rent, and then later had a mass murder (by knife) at a party (non-Idahoan). I've been pleasantly surprised at the lack of news.
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and shocking New Jersey are the safest states in the country.

@@hiroshi138New Jersey is as diverse as NYC so you must have never been there. I was born and raised there. The major cities all suck, but a lot of the smaller towns in the Northwest part of the state and down the shore are awesome and the people are nice.
I am very surprised to see NJ so low on the list, considering we have Camden, Newark and Paterson, along with bordering NYC and Philadelphia. I am not surprised that there are so many criminals in Washington DC. There are 100 in the Senate and 435 in the House.
Why? NJ is mostly upper middle and wealthy suburbs and no guns here. No major cities barely count Newark or Jersey city, Trenton is bad but when you have so many people living here and it’s mostly regular crowded towns that are doing good I wouldn’t expect it to be bad.
And gun reference I just don’t want to see it in a state so densely populated like people are living right next to each other I don’t feel unsafe ever….

I expected North Dakota a lot sooner, down around Maine. Kansas was a shocker. Illinois isn't all Chicago either, loads of farm country. That guy you quoted is right about Rockford. Montana was a surprise.
The thing is- Crime is everywhere. When you travel, head on a swivel at all times.
During the shale oil boom, N. Dakota drew thousands of oil rig workers. They work long, hard hours and have nothing to do on their down time. They soon went down the meth addiction rabbit hole and crime in the state shot through the roof.

This fits in well with what most Americans and Australians who have travelled in the USA tell me. Once you go outside the major cities you won't find friendlier or more welcoming people than in the USA. Red state or Blue state doesn't matter. Stay out of the bad parts of major cities and you are completely safe.

All I'll say about what some are alluding to is it is all about culture.
Where I live we have two African communities that to the lazy eye appear to be one. Nothing could be further from the truth. One, the Rwandans are as civilised as you or me, dress immaculately and have a reputation for being hard working and honest to a fault.
The Sudanese however are quite the opposite. Their kids roam the area looking for trouble, they dress like they came out of the hood in the late 1980's and they quite often stink. Most are on welfare.
They are NOT the same in the slightest.
I have a well educated Iraqi friend who says exactly the same thing about the various Arab communities.
It all comes down to culture and not race.
I live in the city of St. Louis, MO, and I’m a home owner. I travel for business throughout the Midwest and the South. I can say, without a doubt, that Pine Bluff, Arkansas is a complete “dumpster fire!” Avoid it at all cost! There’s no reason to go there.

El Dorado, Helena and West Memphis are not much better at best. Little Rock is dangerous too but at least their water's drinkable unlike Jackson Miss.

I live in Maine. As a Mainer, we might be inclined to go out and commit a violent crime, but, at our age, it's just not worth the effort. By the time we've finished shoveling the driveway, we're simply not up to it. I don't know where it ranks by age, but the average age of Mainers is higher than in most other states, I think, if not the highest. There's very little work here since they shut the paper industry down, so if you're not on Social Security, you can't afford the heating bills. The fact that most of us, north of Portland, have guns probably reduces the home invasion rates, too.
😂 That is some of the funniest comments I’ve heard lately. I love Maine. Saving up my Bean bucks for a visit. Hopefully I won’t cross paths with any of those few violent Maine-iacs. Especially since there won’t be any snow to shovel when I’m there.

I once went to visit a guy I knew in the service on my way across country. He lived in Poplar, Montana. I found that it was referred to as "Stab City." There were, virtually every block, a liquor store and an alcohol rehab clinic. A body on the side of the road was a common occurrence. One of their listed notable residents is a convicted murderer. I am pretty sure they contribute to the Montana crime numbers.
Yep. It turns out Montana and Wyoming aren't as alike as most people think because Wyoming is much safer according to the stats.
Wweronko - and definitely skew the statistics, considering Montana's relatively low population.
@@buyerbware25 Overall population doesn't matter. The stats are PER CAPITA which takes population into consideration. It's based off of the percentage number of incidents per 100 people or something like that. I was shocked seeing Montana here, but the stats don't lie.
Native population, alcohol and poverty might be factors to consider.
@@solarguy1702I would like to say that Maine has an extremely low incarceration rate which brings down how violent it is on most rankings. But people are more chill and a lot older. Alcohol is very popular in Montana. I loved where I lived minus the obsession they had with drinking. I have had enough alcoholism and domestic abusers in my own family associated and want nothing to do it.
According to these statistics, we are judging the state too much by their big cities.
Mostly yes, but that where the majority of the population is and therefore the majority of the crime too. Then you have ones like Los Angeles or New York which aren’t enough to drag them down to TN NM AK levels

I've been told that crime drops when temperature drops in the Northeast. People don't seem to want to hang out or cruise around looking for trouble when they've got to go out into air that is close to or below freezing.
Crime doesn't disappear -- but for criminals, like for veveryone else, snow and sleet and freezing temperatures make it harder to get to work. Maybe it has something to do with having to put on bulky clothes
And then there's Alaska. I guess it just stays cold enough that the crime isn't seasonal

I think you should show the percentages for the bigger cities when you're saying they are the reasons for a state being so high. There are a lot of places in Michigan other than Detroit and Flint that have major issues. Actual numbers for the places that seem to be the reason for issues would be a good insight.
Would love to see top 10 most popular domestic travel cities and top 10 least populous domestic travel cities in the US!
DC crime is so much worse than it used to be when I moved here. Part of the problem is the ridiculous cost of living & lack of resources for the people native to DC (especially after the pandemic.) The lack of accountability & consequences for minors committing most of these crimes is also a major issue. Its even impacting the tourist areas at this point. Its out of hand.
When I was stationed in MD I went to DC EVERY single weekend. That was in 92-93. There were certain places to stay away from. More or less if the Metro didn't go there, you shouldn't go there, and if you'd do, that's on you and everyone would point and laugh. I NEVER once felt like I was in any sort of danger. I would go to Pentagon City Mall every Saturday morning when my girl went to modeling school in Silver Springs. Pretty much every stop on the red line I messed around at. I had the best time.
You could not pay me to take the Metro today. Nor could you pay me to set foot in DC.

No surprise to me. It's run entirely by democrats.
Yeah I live in DC and I think the main problem is Anacostia. Every other part of DC is fine and looks decent but Anacostia looks like literal trash. It's also unsafe to go there if you're white. Thankfully I live in a gated community complete with schools and stores so I don't have to leave it very often. So even if there is rioting and shooting happening I feel safe because it's fairly hard to get to where I live.

New Mexico is also getting much worse, not better…such a unique culturally and historically awesome state but just overcome with a myriad of issues like homelessness, psychiatric illness, drug abuse, and both property and violent crime
In NC you have high crime areas like Lumberton, Albemarle, Reidsville, Rockingham, Gastonia, Whiteville, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Henderson, and Durham as well as rural areas.
yeah NC is dangerous. Its not extreme but it evens out as pretty much everywhere is unsaafe except the coast
I was about to visit my friend in Durham(Im from NJ). The area he was living in had a shooting where aparently more then 10 people were killed. The police litterally closed the area so nobocy could enter so he told me not to come.

Most of the people in Connecticut are rich white retirees which helps bring down the crime rate dramatically.

This was fascinating and included some big surprises. I was not surprised, however, at my home state of Ohio’s low violent crime rate; I always felt that we at least had that largely under control.
What’s very intriguing to me is that there seems to be no relationship between the strictness of gun control laws and the violent crime rate. You’ve got a low violent crime rate in a high/easy gun ownership state like Wyoming…and also a low violent crime rate in ridiculously gun controlled New Jersey.
Makes me wonder what the real drivers of violent crime rates are. Ease of access to guns or lack of the same seems to not be a factor either way.
My fiancé is from the Youngstown area and that’s the only place where certain areas throw me off and make me feel a little uneasy. Cleveland, Cincy, and Columbus all feel very safe in my experience.

You hit the nail on the head for the low crime rate in New England: small states with BIG cold weather.
No matter what state you live in, try to minimize your exposure to the largest cities in that state and you will improve your odds of not being a victim of crime.
Small towns and rural areas are not without their crime issues. Crime is everywhere not just in the metropolitan areas.

Western Massachusetts native I think more crime in Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Worcester is where the numbers are not Boston so much
Pittsfield also has a lot of crime.
I live in the Lehigh Valley with the cities Easton and Allentown. There is violent crime here in these cities but Philly overall is the worst. Your list has rankings that aren’t updated.

The capital city of Harrisburg is also supposed to be very dangerous from what I have heard about that city. It is the third poorest state capital in the US after Hartford CT and Trenton NJ.

They list suicides into the gun violence category which sadly is what makes up a chunk of Utahs. I think it is because of some of the towns that while low crime have little jobs

I drove through and stayed a couple of days in South Dakota the summer before last summer, and it doesn't surprise me that the crime rate is so high there. The percentage of people with a bad attitude and rude behavior was way higher than other places I visited.

South Dakota and Montana are likely from the reservations and conditions on those reservations. Pine Ridge is especially nasty.

As someone who spent several years stationed at Ft. Bragg, and as someone who got stabbed at the Cross Creek Mall when I worked part-time as loss prevention, I can unequivocally say that Fayetteville, NC blows. As Obi-Wan Kenobi once said, "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Also, as a born and raised South Dakotan, most of South Dakota is pretty safe. There is a tremendous amount of violent crime on the reservations. Also, there are Mexican cartels who are on the reservations. I think that's where most of the violent crimes stem from.

Born and raised in Fayettenam and honestly thought it was a very friendly suburban town. College and branching out via the army changed my view. What I viewed as normal everyday suburban shenanigans was apparently not normal suburban behavior. 😅 Can’t drop your guard at cross creek mall.

East Side's reputation is undeserved in my opinion. I've been there lots of times and have never felt threatened. I'm almost always the only white guy in sight. There are a lot of nice people there. It's the politicians running the town who are responsible for the bad reputation.

Tennessee is always in the top 5. I’ve actually had more crime experiences in Chattanooga than I did in Memphis. Yet tons of people move there every day.

Hey Briggs, what's your theory about why some states that are sparsely populated (like Maine and Vermont) are pro-gun but have low violent crime rates, while Montana has a relatively higher rate?
My guess would be there are more drunk people in Montana. With a very low population it would only take one crazy town to make the statistics go way up.
It would be interesting Briggs to see Red vs. Blue state stats on violent crime. Also all states ranked by violent crime per 100,000 per square mile. I’m thinking closer together, more crime.

In 1997, I worked in Houston, Texas, and it was like living in the Wild West. The crime rate was crazy but between their driving and shooting at each other, plus the fighting in the bars. I still live there, but the humid weather was lousy.
It would have been great if you'd put the final list up to see all at once, because then I might actually remember some of it. This goes for most of your videos. Just a nice, visual wrap-up.
A lot of states with a lot of guns high in that list. The myth about guns making people "polite" is just a myth.
I wish it was possible to make a video of like a misery index. Bugs, pests, animal problems, extreme weather.
I live right across the river from DC and it’s getting really bad over there. So much of their violent crime used to be contained south of the Anacostia river. However, it’s been seeping into other much more wealthier neighborhoods now.

And nobody there will point out the elephant in the room. It’s a single demographic committing a majority of the violence. I grew up in the DMV and lived there for 20 years, and it’s decayed within my lifetime. Very glad I got out

Not surprised by Washington D.C. Years back it was clean "for a big city" but last time I was there it was like night and day. The cleanest small city, and seemed really safe, was Gettysburg PA, I could live there......... Thanks for posting.
I figured my home state of Michigan would be close to the top 10.
I grew up outside Lansing which isn’t too bad or that good either. Detroit & Flint are really bad. So is Battle Creek, Jackson, Benton Harbor and Muskegon.
The rest of the state is really nice. Especially the towns along Lake Michigan, like Ludington, Grand Haven , South Haven, Holland and Saugatuck. Traverse City, Petoskey, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids are really nice.

If you list DC as a city then it is 24th. But as foreign tourist having visited it a couple of times, it is actually a really safe and pleasant city to visit and walk around. And so is NYC and even Chicago. But cities like San Diego, Seattle and Atlanta are much more of an issue because whereas I think in a place like DC the crime is most likely in areas that tourists wouldn't go to, in SD, Seattle or Atlanta, the tourist areas / convention centers are overrun by vagrants. I was in Atlanta last fall and basically the hotel district is full of vagrants although the cops seems to clear them when there is an NFL game on. You can still walk around but it really feels you have to be more careful . Never felt that in Chicago, NYC, DC.
This Is by State statistics not city. DC shouldn't have been In here but since It has the highest crime rate I guess it makes sence. Without DC Alaska is number 1 wich surprised me.
There's a lot of poverty in Alaska, and a lot of alcoholism; couple that with the long winter nights. Yeah, I've heard that if you're a woman, you do NOT want to go there alone.@@wertz987
I live in rural NV and was surprised to see how high up on the list we are-I would venture that Las Vegas is mostly responsible for violent crime. Very low crime here in rural area.
I’m from Vermont but I can admit we’re basically the same as New Hampshire and Maine. Also for Massachusetts you don’t need to worry about Boston it’s Worcester that’s bad, if you ever go to mass do not go to Worcester
I agree, though like any large city, you just have to look out which neighborhood you're in. Parts of Worcester are nice enough.
We moved to Mass (Quincy) from Tulsa OK. Worcester has never had me feel threatened as a woman like I did in Tulsa at times. We did live in Portsmouth NH for a year though and definitely never thought I could feel so safe in the US
PA...in the 40's. I was shocked we where 25. But the Burgh's crime has gone up a lot.
I have heard that Erie has also gotten very rough with a lot of crime. It’s economically depressed so that doesn’t surprise me.

I agree with you. Maine is the least violent state and has barely a million people, one of the least populous states. No way is it 20th in total crimes.
This list got me thinking: D.C.'s geographical location is in the state of Maryland. What rank would Maryland have, if D.C. was counted in with them?
DC is the Nations capital which is not a part of any city or state, but if you wanna know how bad things have gotten in DC, we have surpassed Baltimore for the first time in 20 years in homicides 😫

Many statistics have mentioned Kentucky being one of the top 10 safest states for years. I always wonder how could that be. Tennessee, it’s southerly neighbor is on the opposite spectrum being in the top 10 for highest violent crime despite that poverty is significantly more prevalent in Kentucky than Tennessee, in fact eastern Kentucky is one of the poorest regions in country right there in Appalachia.

Violent Crime Index in Canada is about 78 events per 100,000 ppl in 2022. My City of 1 million had 65.7 violent crimes per 100,000 and about 84.4 for the province, Ontario. Major Canadian cities tend to perform better than mid sized cities. I suspect that to be due to lower quality of life opportunities, drug and alcohol abuse and lower education outcomes.

Per capita, we have fewer billionaires but Canada's middle class is more than twice as large than in the US. Tertiary education is high with 64% of the adult population having a postsecondary degree. But we are seeing the violence of crimes shift steadily in cities in Southern Ontario. I'm likely ancient compared to you, but a shooting in Toronto or GTA when I was a teen was virtually unheard of. Occasional stabbings, lots of good old fistfight, and drunks on street corners. Me and my teen friends could go hang at Ontario Place on a Summers Eve and all ride home alone on the TTC safely. Now there teen girl gangs stabbing subway riders. I met up for dinner with a retired Toronto cop friend ofvm8ne downtown, and we could hear bullets going off a d he just shrugged and said welcome to Toronto now. The migrants bring their wars with them, their knives and stabbings, and every summer during g Caribana festival handguns from tne USA get smuggled into Toronto. So we have excellent policing, but Toronto is not a safe spot anymore.
Very interesting list. Was surprised to see SD so high on the list after, in one of your recent videos, you said Sioux Falls was one of the best cities to retire to. This city, and its surroundings, account for about 25% of SD's entire population, so most of SD's crime must occur here.

@@curlyg9925 No, but I've been to Sioux Falls and a couple other cities in southeastern SD as I have personal interests there. I found the area to be rather quiet and laid back as well as clean. As I mentioned in my previous post, I was surprised to see SD so high on the list.

Just moved to SD. In short, getting a job was easy. (Search UA-cam for the phrase “freedom works here” for info from the governor.) And I got a house for a tenth of the price of a comparable one in San Francisco (except mine has more land around it).

I have been observing a drop in Violent crime in Cleveland, personally in my neighbourhood before surveillance installed, there were urban terrorist attacks, but those dropped significantly, Cleveland is becoming a Surveillance state akin to China.
There are things I am quite eager to see in Cleveland's future, such as Identification chips for every civilian that lives there.
I wish to see as a percentage per total state's population ranking. It is a bit confusing when you see two rankings in crime ranking and state ranking.
I figured my state (Connecticut) would be about 10th safest (or #42 on this list), but it was actually #48. (You wouldn’t know it from watching the local news.) For the most part, the states were about where I expected them to be.
I'm right above Hartford it's literally shown the most on local news besides New Haven and Bridgeport. Litchfield, Tolland, Windham counties got lower rates.
Even though Hartford has one of the highest rate it's only the 4th most populous city which isn't good. bridgeport, Stamford and New Haven are top 3.
The closer the crime numbers are to the population = higher rates

I am surprised that Mississippi was so high, l thought it would be lower on the list. I thought lowa would be higher on the list. I am shocked NY is not much lower on the list. I am also very surprised that Maryland is not much lower on the list. Illinois is another surprise. California was also a surprise. Texas is no surprise, you are right about Houston. Those at the bottom of the list really shock me. Who would have thought?

So you cherry pick two states with lots of guns and hypothesize that firearms are the reason there's no violent crime. Then you proceed to list 3 states with high numbers of firearms in the top twenty and can't figure out why they don't have low violent crime like vermont. All while ignoring the fact that Vermont has the 7th lowest poverty rate in the country and also has strong social programs. There's low violent crime in vermont because they look out for each other and there's social programs to help people when they need it.
But yeah, guns are making you safer.
