My daughter had an engagement ring with a 2.81 carat center stone, brilliant cut. The setting was 2 carats of small, (5 & 10 pts) round diamonds, halo. The mounting was $23k. Magnificent looking ring. That ring was in the shop more than it was on her hand. Every time she looked at it, one, two, three stones were missing. They kept fixing it, until finally she put the 2.81 carat in a solitaire setting. The original jeweler took the defective mounting back. Small diamonds have small prongs, or are pave set. I prefer a solitaire with a sturdy mounting.
