@@brittneylamar9864 Yes but those are significantly cheaper than diamonds. Most would spend a little more for natural gemstones. But for a lot of people, spending an additional 4 months of salary on an identical stone just because it's natural is insane.
@@brittneylamar9864 as a gem seller and buyer I can tell you that most retail jewellery shops here in Australia are selling man made sapphires, rubies and emeralds. And most of the rubbish they sell is NOT advertised as lab made. I am sure you are an intelligent person I suggest that when you go into a jewellery shop hang a 20X loop on a chain around your neck and ask ...Are these natural? Watch them telling you that they are not. Then send a girlfriend a few weeks later without a loop and watch them tell her that the same gemstones are natural. You should know by now what to look for in a natural gem v a lab gem. So I hate to break the news to you most retail gem stores are selling lab grown gems. And passing them as natural. One dead give away is the manufacturing of the ring, chain, ear rings etc. Look at the display cases and you will find the ugly word UNIFORMITY or made in Italy when they were never made in Italy. Most if not all are ready made in China or India. At a fraction of the price it costs a real jeweler to manufacture that same ring but selling that same ring mounted with a natural stone. Whereas they are selling a copy of a copy mounted with a lab grown stone. What I say to my clients is that if you want quality go to the people that I know are manufacturing jewelers and for no fee they will help you design your ring and source a natural stone with a GIA certificate. My friend Joe will also allow his clients to see the ring take shape in front of them if they wish. YES it is dearer but you are buying a heirloom that is authentic and will last hundreds of years. I am sorry that I sound like a snob but I am not a snob ... I expect clients to get quality over quantity.
1. Resale - i dont plan on selling it 2. Establishment - i dont care what people think 3. Perception - i still dont care what people think 4. Availability - I’m not afraid to buy online 5. Confusion - my partner isn’t an idiot and this channel is informative Basically there are no cons
If you truly don’t care about what other ppl think, you don’t need to buy even lab grown. You’re still following social convention. You care about what other people think.
Truth. The fact that I have 2 Diamond necklaces, a Diamond bracelet, Diamond earrings, and a ring…. Yeah. Lab Diamond is my friend. All VS and excellent cut, not that SI crap they sell at department stores. So no cons over here
@@dutchjefe5363 Yes because I wouldn't want to spend that much on a diamond that looks exactly the same and has all the same properties just so the certificate says natural. I'm not trying to invest in diamonds.
Why I like lab diamonds: I bought my wife’s diamond from a wholesaler for a $1585 and took it to a well known jewelry company to compare it to a natural diamond. They had the same diamond in all specs at $46,950. Side by side my lab diamond shined brighter
One downside is that they don't retain value like natural diamonds. These jewelers love these labgrown diamonds so much lately, to the point they don't even care to buy real diamonds (because they aren't selling much of them). I imagine because of this uncertain shift in the market. Although this is some speculation. Anyway, keep holding onto your real diamonds because the supply is ever decreasing, and the value should theoretically continue to rise.
@@natewilliams6657 this is only one theory of many, but another very valid theory could be... people not wanting to buy Natural diamonds because why would they? if they can buy literally the same thing, knowing it's a bit less "human Labor exploiting" as advertised, and for a fraction of the price ... supply and demand could force natural diamonds to fall in price as demand decreases, specially if supply rises as well.
It took me a moment to wrap My mind around lab diamonds until someone put it to me like this; Would I call My child born through IVF less of a child because he was made in a glass? 😳 I was shocked at that explanation but immediately understood it. A Diamond is a Diamond.
The only resale value you lose on a lab grown diamond is the money you didn't pay upfront. All diamonds, natural or lab grown have poor resale value. The gold/platinum band/setting is the only aspect of diamond rings that have good resale value.
If you have a good diamond you’ll get at least 50% but most wear diamonds without intentions on selling. If you have a really really good diamond you can get close to the value but never full I’m sure.
Why do you have to TELL anyone what "type" of diamond you have. IT'S A DIAMOND. Talk to your SO & see if they'd rather have a smaller natural diamond or a larger lab. SHE'S the ONLY PERSON WHO NEEDS TO KNOW.... You have amazing videos! Thank you for all your hard work. Your honest & obviously love what you do! 😊
I would be fake just as fake as the man made stone on my finger. I like to keep things real. If someone is dishonest about a stone to make everyone think they have something they don’t what else are they deceptive about. IT MATTERS. Eventually there will be a plethora of lab created diamonds and will become poorly made because of companies competing with each other. The natural diamonds will be less sought after. Everything in the world is becoming unreal. We have virtual reality , artificial intelligence taking us by storm and we are losing sight of what’s real anymore.
These poor diamond dealers are so scared that soon the best diamonds are going to be obtained from a little baggie at the bottom of a cereal box. Price and value of diamonds should have crashed years ago but DeBeers and others are now withholding mined diamonds from the market to keep the market price high as much, and for as long, as possible. Which, by the way, is illegal price fixing. However, because they changed their official place of business to be in Africa and other 3rd world countries it makes it difficult to go after them.
Just bought myself a 1 carat round brilliant lab diamond ring and I ❤it!! so beautiful and at a fraction of the price of earth mined , will be buying more!!!
Diamonds aren't meant to be an investment, they just have to be pretty and stand up to daily wear. Natural diamonds are a great way to throw away a bunch of money for an inferior product. Natural diamonds are artificially inflated in price, everyone knows it. My engagement ring is natural, and I told my fiance that I'd rather have lab made, which I prefer the look of and is cheaper, but he insisted on spending more money. I don't wanna wear it because I'm afraid of losing it and it doesn't look how i wanted it to look.
That's a real shame when the aesthetics are not what you hoped for. You can have it remade perhaps adding extra stones and having the setting designed into something more pleasing to your eye. Perhaps add lab produced stones with the natural - a good compromise.
I wear a getlove moisenette 2k less than $100 people are shocked when they find out it's not real good substitute when you don't want to wear the real thing. getlove is the best brand the stone doesn't show up white. very very sparkly
First I love you videos! Perception or talking to someone about your diamond is like talking to someone about your salary, your sex life, your income; nobody discusses it. Why would you even say that it's a lab diamond? Rock your "rock" and leave it at that. It's really no one's business whether it's natural or lab. Also thank you for mentioning the horrible resale value of natural diamonds but also mentioning the lousy resale value of a lab diamond too. Wedding rings aren't supposed to be sold anyways but I do see your point regarding upgrades. Lab diamonds are affordable enough that people should be able to get the size they want initially and then keep it until death do they part.
@@claudiacampbell848 A natural diamond looses some value, and that loss of value is more than the price of the lab diamond, you end up loosing less money with a lab diamond than buying a natural diamond.
Optically is key word to this video. It is a lot more to this discussion, especially for people who are working in gemological industry. You are touch only the tip of the iceberg.
I never understand the poor resale argument. I feel like the money you lose selling the natural will exceed how much the lab stone would have cost in the first place, because no way natural stones can sell for anywhere near 100% of the cost you bought it for. If a lab 2ct stone costs like $5k (probably less these days) and has "no resale value", and a natural 2ct of the same quality costs $10k (probably more honestly) but I lose 50% value when I then go and resell it - how is being net negative $5k when selling this natural diamond better than just being net negative $5k in order to have a lab grown? Either way it cost me $5k. This way, if/when I want to upgrade my lab stone, I don't even have to bother selling it and I wouldn't be losing any more money than I would if I were to have bought and then resold a natural stone. I just don’t understand.. as long as the lab grown cost substantially less than a natural, and a natural diamond does not retain 100% of the original value, the resale issue favours lab growns. I do understand that some jewellers have an upgrade policy for a natural stone where they give you 100% of the original cost of the natural stone back as credit, as long as you make a new stone purchase is 2x the cost. BUT, if you’re in the position to be spending 20k total on a diamond, are you really going to be sweating the extra few thousand you spent on a lab grown that you in theory can’t get back from reselling it? Wouldn’t you rather keep the original lab stone for sentimental reasons and then just pay for the upgrade if you want it down the road? I feel like lab stones these days are so affordable none of these "no resale value" scenarios make sense.
10000000%. and a two carat diamond lab is like 3,000 and a natural is in the 18-20k range. You are correct, to double that to 40k is wild! versus 6 thousand. In one of my vids, I show how you can sell a lab diamond on facebook marketplace and they got 50-60% back. So I totally agree with you!
The prices that are being quoted are retail prices with all the overheads and profit margins factored in. No different from purchasing a car, the moment you drive off the showroom floor you loose 40% of its value - diamonds and new pieces of jewellery are the same.
The only way to know that any diamond is right for you is to see it next to 2 or 3 other diamonds that are the same price and under the same light. This side by side comparison will always show you the nicest diamond. The other diamonds, which don’t pop out at you will be returned and eventually sold online sight unseen.
I am a gem collector and buy only natural. Ive seen lab diamant, ruby, sapphires but its just not the same.. I not only buying the gemstones, its also the story behind the gem.. something created over millions of years, or within a day (lab) gives a different feeling and appreciation.
What story? The exploitation of poor people in Africa? Warlords chopping people’s hands off because they aren’t digging up enough diamonds to finance their endless wars?
Like a natural diamond, you need to have a certification with your diamond. Like a natural diamond, cut is the most important factor in the beauty of a diamond, then look at clarity, color and polish. I have a 2.14k natural diamond and a 2 k created diamond. Both are gorgeous and both are special for me.
I have a fabulous 1.5ct diamond ring made circa 1920 ( but the stone is mid Victorian going by the cut ) ) I bought it 25years ago for £1,500. I got married last year and we got our wedding rings from Goldsmiths. The rep saw my diamond ring and asked to see it. She said the stone was really top quality and it would set me back approx £15-20K today! ( shop retail that is ). I will never sell it though ever, the value is irrelevant to me.
Great story, victorian cuts are not in fashion anymore you would have a difficult time selling. But for sure a small market that really loves them in the private sales side. You bought 2nd hand which is always the way to go. top cut diamonds in the 1.5 carat are going for around 9k right now. needless to say, you got a good value buying 2nd hand. Though you had a positive experience since you bought something private, most people do not share the same experience. Reselling a natural stone is awful. Not an investment.
I always find the resale argument funny. Anyone buying a ring & considering how much they can get back if they sell is somewhat missing the point & likely fooling themselves.
How many women when given an engagement ring say to themselves “Gee wonder what the resale value is?” None! Who cares! I keep seeing articles on resale lab diamonds. It’s an engagement ring. Good grief! I just wanted my dream ring 4 carat color D VS1. $8000 That diamond the earth version? No idea how much probably more than $200,000! I wouldn’t pay that if I was rich. No. I don’t think I’ve made a trade off.
There is something I love about a stone that took billions of years to create. It traveled a long way to get to my finger. I have nothing against lab diamond, especially on a budget. I don’t have a big budget so I will have to buy my platinum band and engagement ring. Those will have real diamond vvs1-vvs2. Then possibly get a lab diamond for the center stone. I personally would rather have. 1 carat higher grade diamond than a huge low grade.
I love that too, but at the same time is it worth enabling hurting the earth and others to get it? Also carbon is carbon and even the carbon in a lab took billions of years to get there. Ice made from a freezer doesn’t make it any less like ice from a glacier.
the carbon materials used in lab also took billions of years to create and combined with millions of years of human intelligence and technology, the lab diamond has more value. In fact any man made item has more value as diamonds are pretty much everywhere in the universe but man made items are far more rare.
So what price point do you think you would have to be at to have an "investment grade" diamond? Something really wouldn't lose money on as long as you held onto it for a little while. Obviously there are people who buy investment grade gems. I'm assuming it would have to be large enough to be pretty rare, and it would have to be very expensive..
I’m curious about longevity. I want to pass down my diamond. Hopefully through multiple generations. Natural diamonds have withstood the test of time but lab diamonds are so new. What if they discolour in 300 years ?
Hello Sir. I am seriously considering a lab diamond to propose with in a ring. I would love to hear what you think of Grown Brilliance as an online company. Im looking at a 2 carat Emerald cut set in a split shank platinum setting with a single halo. They seem to come out around $4-$6k. Im a US Vet and police officer. So I’m a no BS kinda guy. Im open to your honest opinion and/or suggestions. I really love this woman, but I don’t have the bank to drop $60k at Tiffany’s. Thank you. Be well. I’m going to order your LED ring box too!
May I suggest you attend a few reputable auction sale rooms which have seasonal jewellery sales - these are places where you can browse and enjoy what is available as in preloved often beautifully crafted pieces with provenance - 'admire' the estimate prices, observe how the bidding works and pace yourself when the bidding starts and maintain discipline to work within your budget and remember always factor in the commission anything from 20 -25% on top of the hammer price. It's exhilarating and thrilling. I have bought many pieces over time some remained intact some dismantled to be reinvented into new pieces by a talented and trusted manufacturing jeweller. Every piece I have co-designed has been admired and enjoyed.
Best Channel if anyone wants to learn anything about Diamonds. I have seen most of your videos. I am from India & I wish I could have bought my lab diamonds from you. When i started I knew nothing about Diamonds or lab Diamonds, just had that perception that lab diamonds are artificial diamonds . Its been quite a revelation that both are real diamonds only , only the place of origin differs. Thankyou for the education on diamonds. You are a dong a brilliant Job by putting out these really clear, crisp & comprehensive videos. P.S. I had one question. If the lab & naturally grown diamonds are just the same chemically & optically. How is that jewellers can still identify with the use of machines which one is lab grown & which is naturally grown, when they are the exact same , differentiation shouldn't be possible, right? So there has to be something different in both type of diamonds, can you please tell what is that ?
Lab grown rubies are actually identical that no one can tell them apart so jewelry community actually required that lab rubies be marked. Maybe it's the same with diamonds.
Great video! I have heard ppl said that lab grown diamond’s colour will change over time. Is that True? Also is HTHP better than CVD? I feel like CVD diamonds have a higher chance that its colour will change.
Thank You sir. You help me pick out a beautiful diamond for my then GF now wife. I had anxiety about buying a diamond. I watched your videos and found a beautiful natural GIA Diamond at James Allen. I took it to my local jeweler to set it and he said I got a real good deal. I feel like I saved so much money and my wife and her friends love it. Went for the ideal cut, clarity and downgraded the color that little bit of fluoro actually makes the diamond look more white and because of the cut it sparkles. You're the best man. Appreciate you.
I have as saying.... Diamonds should always be real, fur should always be fake😊 just something that I've always stuck to. I love diamonds, I have many old inherited diamonds but I also love so many gemstones too. I am very grateful and appreciate every piece I have but for me I don't want or need any lab diamonds. I've seen some really lovely pieces and I believe in freedom of choice but not for me. Buying in person is so important, your eyes will let you know the right one for you Blessings to all
people that know the hardship real diamonds incur, yet still want them over lab diamonds really lack awareness or empathy, but whatever, we all know you are benevolant because you'd NEVER wear real fur. the salt of earth kind of guys@@LizzieSparrow2
Thanks for sharing your experience. Its a terrible and is inline with my statements. Plus if you buy a diamond wrong,(bad cut) they dont want to buy because it may take years to sell.
They're not mentioning this, but lab diamonds could change color and lose sparkle over time, especially when you have your ring resized or cleaned and polished. It would degrade in color and sparkle, unlike natural diamonds. Reason is that lab grown diamonds are mostly treated.
I wonder how many lab diamonds are being sold as real ones. The jeweler shop I went to for my engagement ring needed a machine to decide whose were lab and which were real
Hi Erin, Most labs have a certificate number inscribed on the side of the girdle indicating its lab. Yes, jewelers buying uncertified goods need to have specific testers to confirm.
The first ring I had made for my wife has a 1 carat lab diamond in 14K gold. I had to explain to her that it's a real diamond. Because it is. It's 100% real, it's just not a natural diamond. The only way a person can tell the difference between a lab and natural diamond is by reading the serial number. She gets compliments all the time. This year I bought a 2.3 carat lab diamond G color, VVS 2, Ideal cut, Excellent polish/sym, and it's in platinum. I think she'll love this one more.
Question, will a local jeweler be fair or take on the business of setting a diamond I didn’t buy from them, and set it in a setting they provide… at a fair cost? Jewelers are in the business of making money. I predict them declining the job, or overcharging for the gold setting. And will they offer any short term guarantee on the ring?
They will charge you to be profitable. Service, depending on how busy they are, will be given priority to a higher-paying client. If you buy a ring from them, the ring should have some guarantee, in the end its gold. If it fades its on you. If you drop it and a stone pops out they have the right to decline warranty work if they see damage. Warranty is subjective this isn't electronics. Its gold and diamonds.
To get value for money always buy at auction and sell at auction. In the main prices are 30% lower compared to retail jewellers prices. The added benefit is you can purchase preloved pieces of jewellery with provenance and enjoy them as is. Or you can purchase a jewellery piece/s have them dismantled and reimagined into a totally new piece - all you need is a talented craftsman jeweller who can translate your vision into reality. One word of warning never break up quality heirloom pieces because old craftsmanship is not easily replicated and also old cut diamonds (which I prefer) have character and a subtleness in their sparkle, more nuanced and lively than a modern cut. Style and design is not always about the 4Cs
Moissanite stones are the prettiest. Given a 2ct solitaire Earth diamond vs. a 2ct Moissanite, I’d take the Moissanite any day! 💎 I own several. Because its affordable and practical.
If all you want is sparkle, go for the lab grown. But a real natural diamond will have value a hundred years from now. My grandmother’s lovely mine cut diamond gets comments all the time from jewelers. They can definitely tell.
I bought natural and the upgrade was valued at 100٪ of my purchase price. The disclaimer on lab diamonds were 50٪ of the purchase price on most online vendors with brick and mortar locations.
I sold diamonds in a family business. I have owned some beautiful diamonds. I just acquired a 3 carat lab grown…..I am thoroughly convinced they are fabulous. You can get a gorgeous stone, bigger, if that’s your preference, for a fraction of what a mined diamond would be. Please be careful…..don’t buy a “lab created or lab made” stone…..that’s a CZ. Make sure it’s LAB GROWN…
Selling your natural diamond to a jeweller, you might get back 20% of source price, if you're lucky, meaning 3% of retail. You can get a lab grown diamond for that 3%, same size color and clarity. And they last forever, same as natural. Everybody can own one, that's inclusion, right?
@@hopespringseternal2624 good for you, holding on to your natural diamonds, you can pass em on to your family and loved ones to remember you by. Diamonds, natural or lab grown, they last forever, that's a beauty in itself.
The biggest difference is the cut. Lab diamonds often have inferior cuts. Guess they figure if there are fewer flaws they don’t have to go to the effort to maximize the flash.
I dont know why you dont talk abouth the main difference... you can see the difference under special light, so it's not the same thing and will never be... or sell them as real diamond if it's the same thing.... nobody will see the difference..
All I said is its chemically and optically the same, nobody walks around with a special light to look at your diamond. Yes, there are special testers same as diamond testers. Nobody sells a lab and pretends its a natural, there is laser inscribed certificates # on the girdle stating its lab. So its not the same thing in one way but also its chemically and optically the same thing in another way. So I am justified to state that.
I wish I didn’t mind, but I just don’t see price value relationship for a manufactured diamond. Maybe eventually I’ll get used to the idea, but I can’t justify spending so much money on it.
Where can one get 3+ carat trilliant cut, IF (or very close to it), HPHT, ideal cut, D or E color lose diamond? Seems no one has a decent selection of trilliant cut.
Most people don't buy diamond rings for resale. I'm wearing a ring made with man made diamonds. It sparkles beautifully. I don't care about resale because it gives me a lot of pleasure just looking at it.
haha, see what I did there. I spoke on the common negatives which tend to be myths. Rare carat is okay, its a search engine that has a of of newer brands. I stick to some of the OG companies that have longer track records for quality and customer service.
It’s kinda funny when people say they only want a natural diamond engagement ring because it’s rare and more meaningful but then they talk about resale value when upgrading. If the diamond is so rare and precious to you why the hell would you trade it in 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Is your ring box one with white light? I just bought one off of amazon that looks identical but the LED inside is very cool spectrum (blue) and completely washes out the color of the ring.
This might sound crazy but my issue w labgrown diamonds is that it looks nicer.. maybe even shine brighter. It has less imperfections. In a way, the real diamonds look more real because of their imperfections versus lab grown always looks perfect.. but I don't know. I still am not fully decided about this topic..
i read somewhere that there is a site where you put your diamond measures and it shows you how brilliance it might look , can you help me find that site ?
Where would “you” sell a “real” diamond w appraisal please? I understand there is a loss of value..do you recommend Sothebys? eBay? Etc… I had never heard of a lab diamond 💎 until yesterday… then, how would you ship it? Would you show the appraisal as one if the pics? Can you show me or direct me to a good description of an authentic diamond please?
I bought my wife a non lab diamond 10 years ago when we got married. Paid $12k for it. I was barely making 6 figures then ($110k). Now I am a much higher earner and I see how awesome lab diamonds are and how affordable they are and Im convinced that when I upgrade her ring, I am doing it Lab.
Lab diamonds are a clear example of greenwashung. The environmental positives are highly exaggerated. As well as on blood diamonds. Look up the kimberly process. Blood diamonds basically dont exist on the primary market
Ive been dipping back into gems and everyone misses this on the lab resale. First they're about the same resale value. A sub $10,000 piece at retail you get a lower percentage on resale because of the minimum amount a business needs to make to stay in business. If your minimum per transaction gross margin is $1000 then if your diamonds retail value is $1100 youll get $100. If its $3000 maybe you get a thousand for a typical mark up after the minimum cost of a $1000. So maybe a few hundred. Same with natural and lab. The issue is no one compairs the same gems. They compare a $5k lab to the $50k natural and say that natural retains more value. A $5k vs $5k and a $50k nat vs $50 lab, the price is much closer. Most of the differences is older vs younger buyers. As the post lab customers age out the pre lab customers the small difference will go away. Also remember that lab prices are going down quickly so a 5c lab will be half. In 5 years. The 5c losing 50% over that time is LESS than the drop in value of natural. A 5c nat when a lab cost 10% of its value is 50k now. What price will a 5c nat be in 10 years when a lab is $500 and more than half of retail sales are lab and a majority of customers buy lab? Lab retains 10% of retail are you betting a nat will cost $5000 in ten years??? 2022 the record for largest cut gem was 30ct and in 2023 it was 50ct. Anyone want to bet what it'll be this year? So much for large rare gems being the ones to hold value. Thats the last straw of current natural fans. Since 2000 i watched christies sales. Its the art that retains value, not the gems, pieces from the 1920s on have non natrual material and they get top dollar in auctions because of the artists qualities of the piece. The ability of more artist to access affordable material is the value in jewelry. Go to art festivals and find a jeweler you like. Have thwm make you custome pieces with lab material and youll retain more value than anything and depending on how go you are at collabarating you make have pieces that increase in value. I build homes. One that i worked on had a desk that took one peraon 9 months to make and was about $75k, the front door on that house was $50k. Saying gems have value is like saying the wood in those items has value. Its true but its less than 10% of the value. And to answer the comments ahead of time, it was simply more desk than I could have imagined before seeing it. L shaped with thw writing area as the short leg 4-5ft and the long leg 6-7ft to face people over. Unbelievably detailed floral design across the surface in a nuevous style like William Morris or Mucha. Just the surface with elegant legs, no drawers. That was all in the built in woodwork in the wall behind it. Front door was nice also, french double doors 15ft tall but it didnt touch the desk.😮
Only one minute into this video, and you already explained the most important thing about diamonds (natural or synthetic): THEY ARE ALL OVERPRICED AND WORTHLESS… if something doesn’t hold resale value, is it really “valuable” … that’s an honest question? Example: Gold has resale value that either generally meets or exceeds the original purchase price (barring any unforeseen market declines)… whereas we don’t see the same for gemstones (or cars, or most major items other than high end musical instruments).
Correct, I always shoot the people straight. Its an emotional investment. Gold is an actual investment. However, i will say, a gold chain has some serious retail markup, but the golds value will increase over time. But if you wanted to sell a gold chain right after buying you will lose as well due to retail markup /manufacturing of the chain.
Reselling diamonds is not easy generally . It is also potentially dangerous ie. Don't sell it from home . People have died doing that (retired jeweller)
8 pages of resale ( unsold) diamonds on the real real. All the in house jewelers I know can get deep discounts since the prices are plummeting. Most independents can pass those on to customers. There is zero shortage of lab grown diamonds.
I think most will answer that way however budgets and expectations are real. Economy sucks and young people are struggling especially trying to buy a home. So lab helps stretch the funds
@OsirisDiamonds That natural diamond of the metal around the stone may at some point help them with their deposit towards a home, etc, as its an asset.
@@claudiacampbell848 Absolutely not, you will be shocked how little gold is used in making a ring. They will get peanuts for it, including the diamond. If they spend 10k they will get 1500-2k back. A terrible investment. ring purchase is a personal and retail purchase.
I completely understand but genuine made by nature over millions of years is the genuine article! Just like my beautiful Girl. She's brick shit house genuine article! So she's worth it! For that one special diamond, it's gonna be real! Let's describe it another way! If you're looking for a 1962 Shelby cobra, wouldn't you want the genuine Shelby, or do you want a kit car? 😮 me i want the real deal! If i was buying allen Iverson earings for myself, I'd buy lab Dimonds, but for my Fiance's engagement ring it's going to be a real diamond made by nature not lab rats!
I do not plan or care to resell my diamonds, so all I care about is how pretty the stone looks and how much money I am saving by buying lab-grown diamonds.
One of the reasons I never proposed to my GF was because of the movie Blood Diamond. So I started looking at Citrin rings because my gf loves that stone because its her birthstone but it just didnt shine like a diamond. Now that lab diamonds are more readily available, Im actually looking to tie the knot after 20 years lol. Also I always felt the price of diamonds was way over priced growing up. I always thought, why the hell does that thing cost so much, it doesnt do anything other than glitter in light. Just get a torch lol.
De Beers is investing $94 million in a new production facility in Portland, Ore., that will eventually produce as much as 500,000 cts. of lab-grown diamonds a year, which will translate to 200,000 cts. of polished. The stones will be polished by a “third party,” a non-sight holder in India.
My kids are IVF, still human, wonderful and 23 now. Lab all the way for me. Don’t care that my sperm was not able to swim upstream. Don’t care we can grow food in a lab and do care that we can now stop digging for diamonds.
@@fenrir834 1. Lab diamonds are certified and have a laser-inscribed number on them. So you can find out if its lab. 2. If you do a diamond test on both they both say diamond, there is a specific lab diamond tester that can also discover if its lab. But most people can see by the cert. Nobody is trying to scam people and try to sell as real. Its a transparent process mostly.
@@OsirisDiamonds Can't someone fake the laser-inscribed number? Also the lab diamonds are supposed to be the same as natural ones, how can some specific testers tell the difference?
If 8ts pretty and i can afford it, i dont care if its real or lab. I care NOT what others think. I would never sell. I would just give to friend or family and move on to something new when my taste changes. My 21st anniversary is coming up. I'm getting something new and passing on the original engagement ring to a niece who wants it. To me, that feels good.
There is a specific tester for labs, if its a generic diamond tester it will read diamond. Also, very simple, labs have laser inscribed numbers on them which states its a lab.
If you spend 5x more money on something that's identical purely because you care what people think of you, you have a problem.
Haha its a crazy world we live in. Damn these expectations!
I mean people are not buying huge amounts of lab sapphires, rubies or emeralds. And those have been around longer.
1. Resale - i dont plan on selling it
2. Establishment - i dont care what people think
3. Perception - i still dont care what people think
4. Availability - I’m not afraid to buy online
5. Confusion - my partner isn’t an idiot and this channel is informative
Basically there are no cons

If you truly don’t care about what other ppl think, you don’t need to buy even lab grown. You’re still following social convention. You care about what other people think.
Resale is irrelevant if they cost less of course they will sell for less
Truth. The fact that I have 2 Diamond necklaces, a Diamond bracelet, Diamond earrings, and a ring…. Yeah. Lab Diamond is my friend. All VS and excellent cut, not that SI crap they sell at department stores. So no cons over here

I'd rather get 25% back on a lab diamond that cost $3,000 than 50% back on a natural diamond that cost $30,000.

Why I like lab diamonds: I bought my wife’s diamond from a wholesaler for a $1585 and took it to a well known jewelry company to compare it to a natural diamond. They had the same diamond in all specs at $46,950. Side by side my lab diamond shined brighter
Damnnnnn ! Well played
Where did you get that? How do you find a reliable diamond wholesaler?
One downside is that they don't retain value like natural diamonds. These jewelers love these labgrown diamonds so much lately, to the point they don't even care to buy real diamonds (because they aren't selling much of them). I imagine because of this uncertain shift in the market. Although this is some speculation. Anyway, keep holding onto your real diamonds because the supply is ever decreasing, and the value should theoretically continue to rise.
meanwhile your natural diamonds would retain 30% of the value today and maybe 10% in 10 years just like the lab ones@@natewilliams6657
It took me a moment to wrap My mind around lab diamonds until someone put it to me like this;
Would I call My child born through IVF less of a child because he was made in a glass? 😳
I was shocked at that explanation but immediately understood it.
A Diamond is a Diamond.
Nah its not 😂 a diamond is a diamond not zcs
Well played comparison!

Great analogy!
Actually, it IS less of a child. Test tube is creepy.
The only resale value you lose on a lab grown diamond is the money you didn't pay upfront. All diamonds, natural or lab grown have poor resale value. The gold/platinum band/setting is the only aspect of diamond rings that have good resale value.
Yes sir! I still don't think the band has good resale. You will always be lowballed.
Lab grown diamonds have a zero resale value, they are worthless.
If you have a good diamond you’ll get at least 50% but most wear diamonds without intentions on selling. If you have a really really good diamond you can get close to the value but never full I’m sure.
@@cindimams4394
You cannot sell diamonds .. you will get the price of the gold/other metal only
You will only get a fraction of the worth of a natural diamond. Please don’t be fooled by diamonds being a good investment because they aren’t.
Exactly my point, no need to discuss it. I appreciate the support and kind words!
The person buying it knows. They know if they’ve been cheap or not. So yes for personal accountability it really does matter.
@charliewilkinson You say "cheap" I say "wise".... I'd bet you a lab diamond that you're not the best investment for a woman.
@@MissKitten422 what a poor comment to turn something personal based on zero information.
However, because they changed their official place of business to be in Africa and other 3rd world countries it makes it difficult to go after them.
isn’t that funny how debeers gets away with that. what i tell my friends though is…… have you ever seen a diamond shortage?
I love how calmly you speak. It really helps drive your point. Great video‼️
i love that the negatives are really in fact positives! You're my favorite diamond resource
Thanks for the love Stella!

Omg yes! I always thought the important aspects are sparkle and hardness. Now ppl are obsessing about origin.
Thanks Tracy, exactly, no need to discuss it! and yes, resale always sucks! Its awful and eye opening!
I am GIA certified as well but I *LOVE* lab diamonds.
Always wanted at least a 1 ct for my GF but times are tough. LGD I believe is great and makes sense environmentally and humanely

Ew lab grown diamonds
You don't like Lab Diamonds, because you don't make enough profit with them, a diamond is a diamond, so i will take the Lab Diamond.
Ima but my future wife a lab diamond ring. I will never need a resale value.
Basically, they are artificial. Any stones that are artificial or treated are worth less or nothing at all.
Lab diamonds allow people of income levels to own a diamond. That is a great thing.
I concur!
They’re valuable because they’re rare
The more common lab grown becomes the more that rare gems consumers will find way to stand out.
@silversurfer8237 so do natural diamonds. You just have look.
And your losing more then that cuz in that 10k diamond u getting no more then 1k back if that much! It's between 5 to 10 percent of what u paid
The only way to know that any diamond is right for you is to see it next to 2 or 3 other diamonds that are the same price and under the same light. This side by side comparison will always show you the nicest diamond. The other diamonds, which don’t pop out at you will be returned and eventually sold online sight unseen.
🤣 “When you find that unicorn you hold on tight” quote of the day!
Their magical creatures that must be protected and preserved.
Exactly. Cut is king. Both have a benefit.
Facts!
Exactly, but they do think, my god look at that big diamond lol. Nobody thinks of resale.
I love blood diamonds
so you love diamonds that were mined by black slave children in Africa?
Travel to Liberia and see what diamonds has done to that country
It’s great to have a choice. I just hope jewelers are honest and not selling lab as earth diamonds. Thanks for this video.
I totally agree! They mostly come certified and laser inscribed. So pretty safe
Its just not a good idea. They are not good investment pieces. If you buy them 2nd hand its the only way not to lose cash.
I’m curious about longevity. I want to pass down my diamond. Hopefully through multiple generations. Natural diamonds have withstood the test of time but lab diamonds are so new. What if they discolour in 300 years ?

They are a reputable company. I would have no problem dealing with them.

They're not mentioning this, but lab diamonds could change color and lose sparkle over time, especially when you have your ring resized or cleaned and polished. It would degrade in color and sparkle, unlike natural diamonds. Reason is that lab grown diamonds are mostly treated.
That doesn’t happen. Stop spreading misinformation.
But the testers are only accurate 50% of the time, indicating there is no significant difference. In other words, the machine is guessing.

She is very blessed to have a husband as yourself.😊
U r so sweet. Lab diamonds are exactly like Earth diamonds but much prettier. I love that it’s in pt! Can you talk to my man? 🫠
I love my lab diamond 💍. Great video.
The best! Congratulations.
Didnt get upset you get one?
@Jaksur_Trucker Nope, not at all. It's still a diamond, and there's no difference to it visually.
Thanks for sharing!
How much money on average does a natural 3.0 carat diamond solitaire earrings cost? Are they worth the money?
If all you want is sparkle, go for the lab grown. But a real natural diamond will have value a hundred years from now. My grandmother’s lovely mine cut diamond gets comments all the time from jewelers. They can definitely tell.
Be aware different cuts add or subtract value from a diamond - compare the mine cut to old cuts to the modern - its symmetry compared to artistry.
I bought natural and the upgrade was valued at 100٪ of my purchase price. The disclaimer on lab diamonds were 50٪ of the purchase price on most online vendors with brick and mortar locations.
Love your website. I learned a couple of things I didn't know but overall you and I feel the same on lab diamonds. Thank you

In my opinion, as long as a machine can tell them apart, one of them is real and the other one is fake.

Diamonds are going to become the new pearls
Hahaha no I don’t think that much of a change. Prices will forever be in check for sure.
Hi random question how will
They know if it’s a lab diamond when you resell it??
It comes with a laser inscription on the diamond with cert number. Not easy for scam artist to sell as naturally. People have lab diamond testers.
But I am not selling my natural diamond. I did not purchase my natural diamonds to sell them, I purchased them to wear them
@@hopespringseternal2624 good for you, holding on to your natural diamonds, you can pass em on to your family and loved ones to remember you by. Diamonds, natural or lab grown, they last forever, that's a beauty in itself.
My comment got deleted. Again.
You rock! Thanks for your assistance.
About to buy a lab asscher cut for my ring. Excited
I wish I didn’t mind, but I just don’t see price value relationship for a manufactured diamond. Maybe eventually I’ll get used to the idea, but I can’t justify spending so much money on it.
How do you feel about reeds diamond rings

It’s kinda funny when people say they only want a natural diamond engagement ring because it’s rare and more meaningful but then they talk about resale value when upgrading. If the diamond is so rare and precious to you why the hell would you trade it in 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Haha great point
Is your ring box one with white light? I just bought one off of amazon that looks identical but the LED inside is very cool spectrum (blue) and completely washes out the color of the ring.
My box has a white light. I avoided the colored ones for that reason.
Im in love with my moissanite, which was faceted by a diamond cutter. Yeah, i paid more but ive got brilliance abovecand beyond ideal cut diamonds.
Do you know if James A. (Red box;) offers a trade in for lab diamonds now?!?! I didn't think they did! Thank you for answers... 😊
Yes, they have a trade in program if you bought from them original. Has to be twice the price tom upgrade.
So they are better… thank you for making this video you are very helpful.
Happy to help!
What online store would you recommend to buy a lab diamond?
I Do Understand Everything About A Lab Diamond…! But For Some Reason I Want Natural Stone.
Reselling diamonds is not easy generally . It is also potentially dangerous ie. Don't sell it from home . People have died doing that (retired jeweller)
Yes its a crappy experience. Thanks for adding to the conversation.
8 pages of resale ( unsold) diamonds on the real real. All the in house jewelers I know can get deep discounts since the prices are plummeting. Most independents can pass those on to customers. There is zero shortage of lab grown diamonds.
If it's a choice of a lab grown diamond or other natural stone, I would always take a natural stone even if it's not a diamond. Due longer value.
Great video!
Thank you!
I do not plan or care to resell my diamonds, so all I care about is how pretty the stone looks and how much money I am saving by buying lab-grown diamonds.
The only difference between lab diamonds and natural diamonds is that smart people buy lab diamonds and stupid people by natural diamonds.
Why is that ? Im actually trying to buy a lab diomond because it's cheaper
Hi, when will you update the recommended diamond list this month?
Hi thanks for writing. I’m gonna try for Wednesday or Thursday this week. What shape are you looking for?
@@OsirisDiamonds Round. My budget for the diamond ranges from $3000 to $4000. Have a good day!
@@OsirisDiamonds Hi, how can I see the new list? Have a good day!
Hi, I just updated my recommended stones- www.diamondcityonline.com/diamond-recommendations/
When did lab diamonds first come about?
De Beers is investing $94 million in a new production facility in Portland, Ore., that will eventually produce as much as 500,000 cts. of lab-grown diamonds a year, which will translate to 200,000 cts. of polished. The stones will be polished by a “third party,” a non-sight holder in India.
My kids are IVF, still human, wonderful and 23 now. Lab all the way for me. Don’t care that my sperm was not able to swim upstream. Don’t care we can grow food in a lab and do care that we can now stop digging for diamonds.
If you are given two diamonds, one lab and other mined can you diffrenciate?
No you cannot.
Google says that natural diamonds have tiny amounts of nitrogen and lab diamonds don't.
Now, how they detect the nitrogen, IDK. Maybe spectrometer ⁉️
@@OsirisDiamonds Then why would lab diamond sell for less? How would they know it is a lab diamond?
@@fenrir834 1. Lab diamonds are certified and have a laser-inscribed number on them. So you can find out if its lab. 2. If you do a diamond test on both they both say diamond, there is a specific lab diamond tester that can also discover if its lab. But most people can see by the cert. Nobody is trying to scam people and try to sell as real. Its a transparent process mostly.
@@OsirisDiamonds Can't someone fake the laser-inscribed number? Also the lab diamonds are supposed to be the same as natural ones, how can some specific testers tell the difference?
To the naked eye can anyone see the difference between natural and lab?
No. Identical.
I would rather have a small IF or VVS1 than to have a 2 carot with lesser clarity. Bigger isn't always better for me.
It’s a great way to think. But what if you couldn’t visually see the difference between them. Would the value still be there?
What’s your website?
It’s certainly better than traveling with a real diamond. If it’s stolen, it’s easily replaced…with less emotional attachment and grief!
I’m Ok with traveling with my diamond that’s what I’m paying insurance for 😊though I hope I never lose my diamond.
If lab grown diamonds are chemically the same, how are pawn shops able to tell that they are lab grown then?
There is a specific tester for labs, if its a generic diamond tester it will read diamond. Also, very simple, labs have laser inscribed numbers on them which states its a lab.
