    My brother Jayson is a devout follower of Michael Gregor. Ever since he was 12 he has started growing lots of plants and only eating vegetables. Tonight he came into my room and harassed me into watching this whole lecture. I've always believed Michael Gregor, but never felt the need to watch him. Because the rules are quite simple. I appreciate this video lecture very much. Michael Gregor has changed my already healthy brothers life. He's 14 now and teaching farming and dietary plans to others.
    With love, Joey.

    This man is a hero. I'm not a vegetarian. I'm a stem cell biologist with high cholesterol and I'm changing my lifestyle and diet because I now understand the real benefits of a plant based diet.
    I mean, as a biologist I'm supposed to know more than the average person, and maybe I do, but Dr Greger has taught me so much that I can't ignore it any more.
    This is science communication at its best!

I have long been attached to Dr Greger's sane and rational approach to such an important topic ...the good thing is that this is just his 2012 lecture, and there are 3 more recent ones to watch (linked at the end of his videos), and countless other more focused videos in his channel. The best thing we can do with the work he so selflessly does every year is to *apply it* and *promote it*. I'm absolutely certain he wouldn't mind us plagiarizing in the effort to spread the knowledge :)

My skin became brighter, I started sleeping better, I wasn't as foggy all the time, and was suddenly able to breathe through my nose. What amazes me is that people still doubt the benefits of a vegan diet. Even a doctor I met the other day was giving the big 'un about B12 and how it *HAS* to be *_injected_* periodically and a whole load of other "deficiencies" I'll have because of a vegan diet.
    Then there's that ridiculous "where do you get your protein from." Why are people so obsessed with protein as if it's the most important nutrient to consume and is only available from dead animals!!!
    I hate to don my tinfoil hat, but I think it's a conspiracy. All the evidence shows animal products are dangerous but yet our governments (definitely here in the UK) are siding with "drink lots of milk and only eat lean meat. It completely ignores the health issues and ethical issues resulting from the amount of resources that go into producing a tiny amount of animal products.
    Ex:- Solar power is not in widespread use because what you get back is not enough to justify the resources (although with more usage, it would increase our renewable energy and get cheaper and become more efficient because of more investment) but animal products....
    Government only care if it doesn't effect their personal investments and party donors. Meat, tobacco, alcohol and weapons (especially guns in the us) pay too much money for any government to change policy.

      ***** Through fortified foods (same place people get quite a few vitamins and minerals) and the occasional supplement.

    • @zemstone
      @zemstone 9 років тому

      +Yoda on DMT Serious question, where DO you get b12 from? I thought taking it orally is NOT effective, it HAS to be injected?

    • @YodaOnDMT
      @YodaOnDMT 9 років тому +5

      +mpBomil Many foods are fortified with B12. The soya milk I use and the cereal I eat has it fortified.
      On top of that, I take a supplement just to be on the safe side.
      I had a blood test not too long ago and there was no deficiency.
      Personally, I think B12 is somewhere in nature but we just haven't found it yet.
      But on the whole, I don't think I could ever go back to eating meat. I feel better and healthier than I've ever felt. The thought of eating an animal is kind of disgusting now.

    • @LiquidRush
      @LiquidRush 9 років тому +4

      +Yoda on DMT You just answered your own problem. You don't know where the B12 is. You take supplements which is not natural. B12 is found naturally in meat which if it's grass-fed is extremely healthy. If you don't get B12 you get nerve damage and/or you can die.
      Unfortunately animal products (that come from healthy animals) are healthy. If you want to be vegan fine, that's good that you don't eat dead animals (even though agriculture kills millions of animals and eradicates entire species, not to mention destroy environmental topsoil) BUT don't kid that yourself that an omnivorous isn't healthy because it is.

    • @YodaOnDMT
      @YodaOnDMT 9 років тому +6

      +LiquidRush I don't need to take a B12 supplement, I just take a multivitamin every day to be safe.
      I also take additional vitamin D because dark skinned people in temperate climates suffer with deficiency regardless of diet. Is that unnatural to do as well?
      And it's well known that if we stopped eating animals, we could easily feed the world since most of what we grow and our water go to feeding cattle.
      Ultimately, if you want to eat animals because of one potential benefit, you can. But don't be fooled into thinking you're healthier than the average vegan.
      The stats are there in this video... and anecdotally in comparisons between vegans and meat eaters of the same age. I pass for someone half my age and look younger than my entire circle of friends.

    11:54 "If these recommendations were adhered to, cancer incidents may be reduced, but farmers and the meat industry would suffer important economical problems."
    Sums it up really. So the health of patients, and the suffering of animals isn't as important as paid executioners losing money. Even the healthcare industry is corrupt.

    • @aureum_
      @aureum_ 2 роки тому +1

      Animal agriculture is more corrupt than anything because who they give to people to eat is gravely dangerous to eat long-term. Meat, milk, and egg companies manipulate and lie to billions of people by claiming it's "healthy" and even necessary for our health. Which by the looks of this video proves that to be profoundly the opposite.

    Hi Doc. Four years ago my wife became vegetarian. Her liver was failing. Bile production was nonexistent. After starting a vegetarian diet, the bile came back within 48 hours.
    I thought it was pretty cool, to say the least. In support of her decision, which was 'cold turkey,' (pardon the expression) I decided to stop eating hamburgers.
    I weighed 180 pounds. Three months after that I weighed around 160. I did nothing else to modify my diet, and I have kept the weight off for four years.
    Not only have I lost weight, but I feel so much better. I finally know what it's like to not be hungry 24 hours a day.
    We eat vegan when we eat at home. I still eat some meat when we eat out. But I like it less and less.
    I do not have a religious obsesssion with veganism like some people. But I can tell you that the more vegan meals I eat, the better I feel.

      @keecefly stop being so selfish - we don't need to eat animals, it's incredibly cruel and nothing can justify putting an animal through a lifetime of torture and misery only to suffer a most painful and agonising death. Plus meat isn't even good for us, it's been linked to heart disease, type-2 diabetes, cancer, strokes etc. Basically just do your research before you come out with stupid shit like that

      @@dancindavey1515 Dude. Let me break it down for you in real simple terms: The original comment said that veganism is for beauty obsessed people and people who are must watch this video. I pointed out that the person in this video looks terrible. His body looks malnourished as if he is 12 year old girl, and to add to that he is just 47 but looks 60+. This apprantly is counterproductive to anyone who is beauty obessed. That was the point of my comment. It does not matter what you majored in, veganism is malnourishment. No matter how you look at it. It is a religion putting animals and their life above our own. We are predators and we need animal protein and fat to maintain optimal health. Simple as that. No wonder we are at the top of the foodchain. It is NATURE. Try to fight it and you will see what happens - disease.

    This film clip, out for over a decade, is as fresh as the first time I saw it. I am as devoted to Dr. Greger as many young women are to Taylor Swift. Though I haven't learned all of his prounouncements by rote, I've taken them all to heart. I appreciate nutritional science.
    Indeed, when I read "The China Study" in 2005 I went plant based. In the years since I haven't had one sick day, even throughout COVID-19, not so much as a cold. I set out to avoid the cancers that had afflicted both my dear parents, one of whom died of it.
    Yet when my arthritis pain vanished and I stopped losing teeth to periodontal disease, after losing 8 teeth, it was like icing on the cake. I treated myself for both these untreatable conditions with an all plant based diet. My labs are normal, BP just fine. I have no diagnosed illnesses and, at 81 years of age, I require no prescription drugs.
    Nevermind that I smoked for 50 years, and for a time was a raging alcoholic. All my drinking buddies have preceded me. It's not just our genetics or our bad habits, it's the food we eat that makes the difference.

      Not exactly karma, but rather we are "designed" to be herbivores, with little to no evidence saying otherwise...the only reason people believe we are omnivores is that we think all these diseases he mentions in the video are COMMON for humans, despite not occuring in any other species of monkeys, and therefore accept this as though we can eat animal products. No one ever looks up these kinds of things, because people around us who has not looked up the real facts say something like "Oh we are omnivores, right?" which they are unsure about until someone claims they are not.
      Omnivorism and diseases...One causes the other, and the industry benefits greatly.

      it's almost impossible for everyone to live on the same diet though, even a diet that would be most optimal for humans. the main reason is that people are simple different from each other. the other reason is people living in different climates and locations. the good thing about being human is that our body does its best to adapt to any diet (or lifestyle) we are on.

    It's sad about the amount of research out there yet it's still being kept in the dark because of the power of the animal agriculture industries. People are constantly bombarded with meat and dairy promotional advertisements, TV commercials and even the systems we depend on telling us to continue eating meat and dairy.I am going to university and studying nutrition and yet my teacher is providing misleading and contradicting information to the class of future dieticians.
    You want to know why many health industry "experts" are part of this whole process of information corruption because like at my school all of these students going on to work in the health industry are being told to have 3 glasses of dairy a day, eat red meat for iron and protein. My school is SPONSORED by the dairy industry and when you open your eyes and become aware of that you will than see how specifically centred the class is in promoting dairy, it's ALL about MONEY!open your eyes people and do your OWN RESEARCH!

      Amaaaazing job. You know, instead of water, you could use cold-steeped hibiscus and green tea in your smoothies. Just throw a few green and hibiscus tea bags in a gallon of water and keep in the fridge. High antioxidants. Add berries and maybe a lead of kale, or better yet, a few stems of chocolate mint, BAM! Mint grows like CRAZY. Plant a few in the yard and next year you'll have hundreds of them.

      Alexis Cabrera Dates. Just use dates, no sense in adding refined sugars. Hell, Dates have more potassium than banana's and taste sweeter than sugar. Get all your potassium/fibre fix without refined sugars... which are the absolute worst form of 'carbohydrates' available to the human body.
      Bonus recipe:
      2 Bananas,
      2 cups almond milk
      2 Tbps Cacao powder
      2-3 dates (depending on sweetness preference)
      1tsp cinniamon
      1tsp Nutmeg.
      1/2 C Oats.(optional but advised)
      Blender.
      Congratulations you have a deliciously creamy chocolate milk shake that is supremely healthy for you.
      Add in the oats and you've got a calorically sufficient meal.

    Great presentation. My first thought was what is his agenda and is he a vegan. it's clear that he has your well being and healthy lifestyle as his agenda, which is commendable, and yes he is a vegan. i was reminded of the observation "how do you know someone is a vegan / vegetarian? hold a conversation with one and within the first 10 seconds they will tell you." Now i go to his critics for the other side of the debate, as there is always an opposing view on any subject and i draw my conclusion from the middle ground.
