Samurai magician. You're creating great memories for your sons. I look back to the many hours helping my dad at his business, holding a trouble light while he got something fixed. Sometimes I wished I was home and didn't have to do all that -- but today I relish the memories. My father passed away over 2 years ago - I miss him daily. The memories of him teaching me plumbing, woodworking, electrical, and the ethics behind good honest hard work have stayed with me my entire life.

I've been building for 30 years. My wife and I have 5 amazing kids, all out on their own. They all worked with us from a very young age until they went off the college or joined the military. We miss them dearly everyday day. Seeing you with your little own is something special. Enjoy each moment with them . Awesome door, awesome father for taking the time to slow down with your kiddos.

In the world of UA-cam I know it's customary to say how I "woulda done this differently" or how I coulda "done that better", but as a woodworker myself I just wanted to take the time to tell you that even other craftsman admire your work. Great job on the doors and thanks for all the entertaining videos.

hcwd workshop When you say 'customary for [other craftsmen to say how they] coulda/woulda done better, you mean 'common for trolls to shit on other yt'ers' work, right?

He should not have used maple for an exterior door which will be directly exposed to the elements. Also, he should have sealed the top and bottom edges of the door with some kind of oil-based finish, exterior glue, or other waterproof sealer, before hanging the doors. This is good advice, not trolling.

Your plane and chisel blades always look as if they are super sharp but you never give any indication of when you stop to sharpen them. I get a mental image of you spending the last 11 hours of each day sharpenning your blades.
Keep the great videos coming, they truly are inspiring. Thank you for taking the time to make them and having the generosity to share them.

Great to see another generation learning. Maybe not in their eyes yet but little do they know they're picking up one of the best trades in the world. I know I love spending time together with my son building houses. At age 7 maybe not always the best help but a good thing for him to know.

Nice to see you're teaching your sons even at this young age. I have a father that believes he is the only one that can do it right and I didn't even touch a paintbrush until I was married. I was touched by seeing your son helping out. That's the marrow of life right there!!
Also, cool mortiser! Used similar machines (incl. a four-head, double-sided multi-mortiser). If possible I'd suggest bolting it to the floor or a much heavier base as a solid foundation increases realiability and consistancy immensely.

Scandinavia, Canada, America literally still teach complete carpentry skills which is amazing tbh.
here in England they have Segregated carpentry i to certain skill sets so when a English person says there a carpenter basically they actually mean i hang doors.
there aren't even many people in this country who can cut a traditional roof seriously

Samurai, indeed you are wise and awesome. There are many ways to skin cat and build a door. If I can be so bold though to make a few suggestions for the next time you make some doors, or windows. Mainly with the glazing aspect, in NZ doors I have made were always glazed and beaded from the outside. The bottom stile is beveled slightly as is the bottom bead to match, this prevents any water sitting on the edge( i know how much you hate water sitting on things). Also I sit the glass on little bits of rubber as well as running a couple of saw curves in the bottom bead to allow any water did get in a place to exit. Granted this does take a little extra time, I know you love these bits of extra detail though. Love your work!!
