  • This week it was time to build an oak door for my camper.
i decided to go with a dutch door design because that is very practical for camping. the door also has a little look out window for my dog Smudo :)

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

This is extremely enjoyable, watching the gradual progression and build out.
Watching you use all the skills, hacks and experience you've learned over the years is really inspiring.
...Plus, that roll-out shelving unit is wicked!

I think that there's something deeply philosophical about that "LET GLUE DRY" steel block. In projects like this (and most other things in life) you can't get decent results if you try to rush or force things. Sometimes you just have to wait for things to happen and events to unfold and plan around the things you can not affect or change.
That said I hereby petition to have "LET GLUE DRY" t-shirts and stickers in Laura's shop and I definitely need a miniature version of that block as a paperweight for my desk.

My absolute favorite part of this video is when you get a smile on your face after something comes together nicely. You’re just so pleased with yourself and how it turns out, and I totally know that feeling. It’s one of my favorites things. Well done on the door!

The split door became a thing after the “Duty on Lights and Windows” late 17th century, as it was classified as door, but could act as a window.

This kind of door is called "Klönschnack-Tür" in northern Germany. Was build for old houses....so called "Friesenhaus".

Or shorter a Klöntür a little further south. At least around here, the traditional way of building those seems to have mostly been a tilted cut rather than the additional strip of wood - obviously, either works just fine.

The reason she glued the style to the piece of plywood is because it was twisted. Otherwise most of what she does leaves me scratching my head.

loved the build, as I always do. Loved the secret tips- hot melting the slab to a planed face, sawdust mixed with glue. Those kinds of little details, shared without a word, whereas other makers need to make a whole video just about them, jabbering away. Thanks again!

You are a badass! That was so fun to watch. I have been pondering building my own front door to my house. I promised my wife I would start with a new door on our house 6 years ago. What I didnt know was how many things needed attention first in our home and that both of us would go back to school to get our masters degrees at the same time. We will both be Nurse Practitioners soon! This has inspired me to do a little something to relax after almost 4 years of school. I'm gonna build it after I take my national board certification. But before I start my new career at age 45! Thank you for sharing your work! Keep it up!

Nice! A Dutch door (that what I've always known them as) for the camper is a great idea. Additionally, I really dig the sign on the wall that says, "Every defect gets repsect". Being I have numerous "defects" I can identify with that sentiment. At least, I'm 93% sure that's what it says.

Definitely better then most men that I've hired through the years lol. You can see that you care, you feel the wood, you can tell you really enjoy it. There nothing quite like the feeling of satisfaction you get from making plans, building what you thought up, then standing back and looking at what YOU created and built. Hats off to you ma'am. Beautiful build! Love the Dutch doors. I built a Dutch door for our nursery room before our first child was born. The idea was to provide ventilation and be able to hear the baby while keeping our two year old Doberman Pinscher out of the room (just in case). Two days after the baby came home, the dog was missing. Found that our Dobie had leaped over the lower section of the door and was curled up beside the crib protecting the baby. Our son and the dog were bonded for the next eleven years.
