The neat thing about Pena is he was amazing the whole playoffs. He goes clutch game 1 of DS on the final out works a walk after a billion pitches to bring Yordon up to walk off. Then he homers in the top of the 18th inning. Then Goes on to when the ALCS MVP and then the WS MVP. All as a rookie. Also I believe the only player ever with all three of those : a GG, a ALCS MVP, and a WS MVP.
Madison Bumgarner is a swear word in Kansas City. That goes for Bumgarner, MadBum, That Giants Pitcher in 2014, and all variations. If they hadn’t won in 2015…I don’t even want to think about that
I think if the Dodgers win this year, Freddie Freeman will be remembered for that Game 1, Walk-Off Grand Slam. So far, he is setting himself up to be the Dodgers World Series MVP.
Ortiz’s numbers would have been better if Carlos Beltran doesn’t make a fantastic catch to rob him of a Grand Slam. The effort to make that catch took Beltran out of the game too, so even when Ortiz was making outs, they were helping the Red Sox win.
I'm also not a fan of co-mvp, but I would have been okay if they split the honors between Zobrist and Schwarber in 2016. I think Schwarber deserved it more than stats alone do justice. Not being able to play the 3 games at Wrigley hurt him more than anything else, yet he still managed a 4/5/4 slash on 1.5 legs and 5 regular season PAs.
Joe Buck having his mouth firmly pressed to Kyle Schwarber’s butt cheek probably didn’t help him. Absolutely everyone was sick of his commentary about Schwarber, to the point Cleveland TV stations were mocking Buck for his love of Schwarber.
@EonArashi Valid. I guess I did watch all those games with the radio broadcast in my ear lol, so I'll never know what that was like from a non-fan perspective. @@trevormacek8556 I think Schwarber might have gotten it if Zobrist hadn’t gotten that final hit. But combined with his performance in the rest of the series, he was the obvious choice. Schwarber was a definite factor and the clear #2 in that line.
I think Hamels winning the MVP was more of a culmination of his entire postseason. He was pretty much lights out except his start against Colorado. I also think the team fed off the fact that they felt no matter what, when he pitched they were going to win. But I do agree that in those 5 WS games, Howard was the driving force offensively
Jermaine Dye once hit a ball so hard down the left field line at the Oakland Coliseum it one hopped the bullpen mound sailed between the two heads in front of me, ricocheted off my hip and landed in the next section. Literally had just taken off my glove that pitch to eat hot dogs my Dad brought back. Would have caught that ball for my first foul ball. Was the day after 03 Detroit actually won a game. Way cooler than getting a ball from career 5.4 WAR player Chad Tracy
I am an Astros fan and I can tell you that no one benefitted more from what was happening than George Springer. His drop off in production in a BlueJay uniform also confirms his stats in Houston were elevated.
As a Cubs fan, I was surprised when they didn't give it to Kyle Schwarber. He came back triumphantly after missing nearly the entire season and postseason because of a serious injury. He healed, he rehabbed, and he delivered like he had never left. Also, as exciting as that 10th-inning go-ahead double from Zobrist was, so many people forget that his was not the ultimate winning RBI. Miguel Montero had a single that plated Anthony Rizzo for the 8th run, which ended up being the difference between a championship and an 11th inning.
ok jolly i really enjoy all these videos, it's really fun to reminisce + learn about big classic moments and people, if you put it on ur second channel or something id still def watch!
Hideki was already a full time DH so he only played 3 games as a starter. And still he had 8 RBI, the most on this list, and 3 HR, tied for 2nd on this list is crazy.
Where up puttin freeman from this year? I'm torn because he could have earned it more in a longer series, but was also a big reason the series was only 5 games
For Zobrist, I think it’s “they don’t win without him” because every player on that team was so important and had crucial moments, especially him. They simply don’t win without him, but also not without Arrieta, Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber, Baez, Ross, etc
Then 2 seconds later proceeds to say eckstein had the biggest hit of the series and rbi double lol jolly either not proof reading or that got passed multiple sets of eyes

No mention that Jeremy Pena was a rookie when he won WS MVP?! I do think though that the only reason he was named MVP, was mostly for what he did to get them to the WS.
While I do agree that Pena was amazing that postseason as a whole, that's also kind of the point of him winning MVP in the World Series. Once things hit October, Pena was in another galaxy the way he played. That just happened to carry into the World Series. Which, as we've seen with some players, doesn't happen.

As good as Beckett was, he only had a hand in 1 of the 4 wins. I know the Game 2 loss wasn't his fault. But they won 3 games without Beckett. It's not just comparing the teams they beat, but they teams they played on. That 2014 Giants team was running on fumes and had a starting rotation that, aside from Bumgarner, didn't resemble the 2010 and 2012 teams.
15:45 I have to take issue with this. Whether you are talking about a career or a single World Series, Bumgarner is up there but is not even the greatest GIants postseason pitcher of all time. Christy Mathewson had 3 shutouts in six days to win the 1905 World Series. Rivera and Bob Gibson are up there too. Gibson had a 7-2 record and 1.89 ERA in 9 starts with 81 IP and 92 Ks. Plus, he added 2 HRs in there.
Okay I love the channel but when you mentioned Eckstein you said "no extra base hits" then almost very next sentence was about his RBI double being the biggest impact hit. And he also had 3 doubles that series. Lol. Carry on.
Absolutely insane that bonds with 8 hits, 4 homers, 2 doubles and 13 walks doesn’t even get a mention in this video. He had an absolutely Goliath .700 obp for the series the second place effort (because obviously that’s a record) is David Ortiz with a .576 in 2004. Berry bonds with THIRTEEN walks had just as many total bases as Troy Glaus (22), 22 total bases is tied for #10 overall with bonds in a single World Series in total bases… except he also had 13 walks… I’m too lazy to do it but if you added walks to total bases surely bonds had the most overall “bases” of any World Series… ever. George springer had 29 bases + 5 walks, that puts him at 34 bases. Bonds had 22 + 13, that puts him at 35 bases. Crazy no one remembers the dominance of bonds this year.
The problem with the 2006 world series, is that Eckstein shouldn't have even been consider... Molina was absolutely the clear MVP, and Rolen also deserves props. But Eckstein wins it because of one hit. It's a five game series, basing it upon a clutch hit in one game was a bit silly, instead of basing it upon overall series performance. I'm fine if the series is 6 or 7 games and there is clutch going on, but ultimately in a five game series, the team is stomping the other team, give the MVP to the guy doing the majority of that work.
That Arizona Closer cost Schilling a win in Game 4 or 5. Schilling and Randy definitely deserved it. That starting pitching staff was trash without those guys.
I am honestly sick of hearing about David freeze and seeing him get ranked in the top tier all the time seriously F that guy that triple in the ninth inning wouldn’t have even been a hit if Ron Washington had been smart and pulled Nelson Cruz for an actual defensive player in right field to finish off the game in the ninth inning, the ball would have been caught and the series would have been over. He’s OVERRATED
@12.20 … top 10 plays of the 2002 World Series doesn’t include the game 6 Scott Spiezo homer … facing elimination down 5-0 in the 7th and hitting a three run homer? … what?
It honestly baffled me that Edgar Renteria won WS MVP in 2010. The 2010's Giants were insane, and I feel like it's weird to say that Renteria was most deserving due to his offense on a team where everyone else was 100% completely locked in as well. And the fact that the Giants went 4-1just shows that even though Renteria was certainly a valuable asset, I do not think it was THE most valuable. In my mind, the WS MVP should have gone to Tim Lincecum. If there is any one player who did more for their team in the 2010 WS, it was him. They would not have gotten as far as they did if it weren't for the fact that Tim Lincecum was easily their biggest weapon for not just the WS, but the entire postseason, most notably against the Braves where he struck out 14 batters in one game. He was the one leading the charge, and won BOTH of the WS games he pitched in(1 and 5), so it makes no sense to me at all how he didn't win it even though he was the biggest reason they all were there. Like I said, the 2010 Giants were just an absolute machine, and you could've honestly given the MVP to pretty much any one of them, since every single one of them pulled through when they needed to. But to this day, Tim Lincecum not winning WS MVP in 2010 is something I will never be able to understand

2009 Hideki had more RBI and higher OPS than 2013 Papi
Ortiz 2013 was ridiculous. Essentially won the WS by himself. (Not literally of course, but you know what I mean.)
On top of those accomplishments, he was also the first rookie SS to homer in a World Series game
I think when you said no XBH for Eckstein you meant no homers prob? Cus right after you mention the double he hit lol
The David Eckstein disrespect will not be tolerated
Mid
Cool it with antisemitism bro
@@camsilva7021big part of 2 world series winner. If that's mid, I'll take it.
Watching Excited Tangerine grow up has been awesome.
Good call on the Sandoval, his stats were too good
So we’re all in agreement Freddie in 2024 is the top spot if jolly does this list again.
it seems like olive only puts guys that had fantastic series *and* went to game 7s in the top tier, so freddie will almost certainly be in tier 2
not all lol, 1.300 OPS and 29% CWPA in a 5 gentleman's is probably 2nd tier off the legendary moment in game 1 and the injury.
It went 5 games… 3rd tier if generous
Pena's best moment in the WS was getting on base so Yordan could turn the game upside down
Madison Bumgarner is a swear word in Kansas City.
The effort to make that catch took Beltran out of the game too, so even when Ortiz was making outs, they were helping the Red Sox win.
weve reached the period in time where even baseball people are too young to know how to pronounce Derek Lowe (LOW)
I personally never had a huge problem with Joe Buck but do understood the criticisms toward him. I don't think it's my bias saying that what Schwarber did, as a 23 year old, was truly remarkable. Could be tho
@@trevormacek8556 I think Schwarber might have gotten it if Zobrist hadn’t gotten that final hit. But combined with his performance in the rest of the series, he was the obvious choice. Schwarber was a definite factor and the clear #2 in that line.
As someone who always gushes about Lester’s 2013, I would love to see a video about the best World Series performances to not win MVP
Jeremy Affeldt pitched 2.1 innings in game 7 of the 2014 World Series after Hudson exited in the second inning.
that doesnt matter lol
Freddie this year would be better with a close series
2:49 This man said David Eckstein got no extra base hits when it clearly says 3 doubles. I guess it's only an extra base hit if it goes over the wall.
Then 2 seconds later proceeds to say eckstein had the biggest hit of the series and rbi double lol jolly either not proof reading or that got passed multiple sets of eyes
Bro misspoke. Chill out
Edgar Renteria. A MLB '05 Stud! Especially with that batting stance 💪
Jolly, I love your videos. Can you do a tier video for final plays of the world series? Selfishly I'd like you to go back to 92 just because I'm a Jays fan but if you wanna stick to the 2000s I'm cool
Illegal sign stealing was a LEAGUE-WIDE scandal, it was not just the Astros
C A P
Fact.
@@Hage35Lots of teams accused of cheating, even current or forner MLB players point out that the Astros weren't the only teams cheating
@@Hage35saw a video of a pitcher spitting on the ball and it went unpunished. Cheating is a part of life and only infants believe it shouldn't happen.
And it was only Home games. Springer batted .378 3 Hr, 6 RBI Away and .200 3 Hr, 3 RBI Home.
Papi's 2013 has to be Most Valuble MVP. look at everyone elses numbers
Before the I started the video I knew where jolly was putting hamels. Respect the Mets bias
David Ortiz with a .760 On Base Percentage is insane. Over 3/4 of the time he got on base. That is an unreal 6 game stretch.
Given that I spent a minute scrubbing the video looking for Podsednik, I second your Jermaine Dye placement.....
Mad Bum had the greatest combined single world series performance in history. What he did in that world series overall will never ever be topped. I still hate the Giants though. Go Angels.
"He didn't even let the series get back to LA."
It was a home run that Pearce hit... at Dodger Stadium.
2001 D Backs were straight up Spahn, Sain, and pray for rain.
@@PlasmawarriorToo bad he's been shit in the postseason ever since tho...
@@bryson1482 Can't argue with you on that one. But at least he's still an elite defender.
Jolly says "All Time" a lot when the cut off it 2000. Check out Jack Morris' ws history the OG Bumgarner
Dude does this all the time. Baseball history began when he was born.
10 inning shutout. Would love to see that today, but you would throw more than 90 pitches.
Great content Jolly
Man watching this and realizing I was spoiled as a child first World Series I remember watching was 01 dbacks end the Yanks dynasty 02 angels rally monkey deny bonds his shot at a World Series ring 04 Red Sox break the curse and also come back from 3-0 series deficit in Alcs to yanks hell 03 alcs Boone with that walkoff 05 white Sox drought ends crazy how many memories from those days stick with you what a time to be a baseball fan growing up
Unless I didn't see, would you mind posting a link to these tier lists? I have some friends who would love to do these as well!
George Springer really should be in the second tier. The Astros don't win Game 2 and game 5 without him.
Nah man, Hamels should have been up in the "would lose the world series without him" or "would be better with a close series". Although I think most people forget just how dominant Hamels was in the 08 playoffs. Remember he won NLCS mvp also. But in 08 when the Phillies won everybody knew that Hamels was going win.
You have to forgive the ignorant Mets fan, lol
clicked on this video for David Freese, glad he gets respect here, my goat
Loving the tier lists jolly keep doing these 😂
Springer 2nd from bottom is insane man idc if they were cheating. Good list
Literally did better hitting in LA, cheating or not he was having his moment in the World Series
@@bryson1482fr
The Astros weren’t good because they cheated (yes I know they cheated in 2017) but they were a already a good team, look how they did post-2017.
@@theman1412 Yes I'm saying that the performance is so impressive that the cheating, which was proven to not even help the Astros much, shouldnt matter
freddie gotta be up there
Why does he keep saying Jorge soler hit the big home run in the first inning, it was the 3rd
I forgot you were doing both a pitcher and hitter for MVMVP and was AGHAST that Madbum went up there over Freese.
I was wrong. You got it right
Ah yes
The only positive Giants content.
Thank you Jolly
Freddie freemen is definitely MVP this World Series 💯
Love these videos, a good name for the lowest tier in this list would've been "someone has to win mvp, right?"
You think of David Freese on the batting side? Do you really? Or do you think David Ortiz?
In honor of the Yankees choking game 5, can you do a worst chokes tier list??
Curious as to where you'd put Freeman on this list now
Josh Beckett should be on the most valuable MVP. That 2003 Yankees teams was way better than the 2014 Royals.
Beckett pitched in Game 3
@@chrisuncleahmad666 My mistake. Though the rest of the point holds. While he pitched well, they lost that game too. They won 3 games without him.
1905 world series lmao; yeah cause he was throwing to janitors and milkmen for a living
It's really difficult to compare baseball played in the old days with baseball today. It's almost a different game.
He’s OVERRATED
you said would you look at the time like the burger king foot lettuce guy, and im honestly interested in your impression of that guy
I wish kershaw won 2020 mvp he deserved it
teir list o'clock is my fav time of day!
Next do the NLCS and ALCS MVPS

matsui deserves a top spot
Derek LAO?!?!?! You take the butchering of that man’s name back!
@12.20 … top 10 plays of the 2002 World Series doesn’t include the game 6 Scott Spiezo homer … facing elimination down 5-0 in the 7th and hitting a three run homer? … what?
David Freese lurking on this list for the entire time
It honestly baffled me that Edgar Renteria won WS MVP in 2010.
Yeah, that MVP should have been Big Time Timmy Jim.
The final standings for the 2014 WS weren't Giants 4 - Royals 3. They were Giants 1 - Royals 3 - MadBum 3
2008 should have gone to Carlos Ruiz and I will die on this hill
The Joe Crede erasure is wild.
