I got the impression that Elise liked modeling more than she wanted to admit, so she continuously put the industry down. She seemed insecure about who she really was so she clung to her education to hide. She never became a doctor, but she did keep modeling for some time.
I agree. I think the clue is that she says she didn't think she did well, and her response is to tell herself she doesn't care. She cares. Why argue with yourself about how irrelevant it is? You could always just leave.
I kinda of got that vibe as well, maybe growing up modeling was looked down upon in her family or something versus school/studies. Being studious and smart could of been a coping mechanism for her. I also wonder if there was some sort of tension that happened off camera for her to blow up like that, cause you know how these shows like to cut out context to fit their narrative. This is all just my theories and assumptions, cause I don't trust reality tv 😂
*THIS* is the Ms J I liked. Actually giving feedback that's constructive and "funny" in a good way. Not just mean one-liners TRYING to be "mean funny." _wish this act stayed the entire series...._ 😮💨😔
Miss J never changed imo. Like in cycle 16 when some of the girls won the fan meet challenge, they went to dinner with Ms Jay and he gave them super real advice. His "mean comments" were probably encouraged by production and editing since they literally pressured judges to say snappy things and also edited out nice comments when they WERE made. And considering almost every model from every single season still gushes about Miss Jay, I'm gonna put this on production and not him.
@@underthegardenwall I can agree with you. But you also have to admit that production had some of these things to work with BECAUSE HE DID IT. so he's still somewhat responsible for what he's said and done even if it wasn't always from him directly. Just like I used to like Nigel but then realized the bad parts were still something he agreed to do and say. 🤷🏽♀️ But we can agree, we know for a fact production and Tyra caused most of this.
@@_labacanitaz And that's totally fair. Like, Ms Jay pushing Danielle to close her tooth gap was one of his rare "wrong" moments, but at least I get the sense that that was his actual true opinion (as wrong as it was), whereas judges like Nigel constantly seemed to be mean to the models in order to please Tyra and production. Most of the judges caved to that bullying culture, whereas Ms Jay rarely seemed to. Don't get me wrong, he IS responsible for any wrongdoings he did, but I very rarely got the sense that he caved to production's demands or lost his morals in the process. Other judges did imo.
@@underthegardenwall Agreed. I know this is off-topic but thankyou for just TALKING with me about this. It's very rare, sadly, that somewhat disagreeing views on the internet are taken to THAT level. You know the level I mean without even saying it. LOL I love just talking through things with someone. 😊💙 And we can both still agree , PRODUCTION is the main evil ones. At least DEFINITELY behind this show. I watched Jeanna (sp?) Turner's video and was in tears listening to how Tyra treated her and how production did. Absolutely disgusting.
@@cheesecake134 No, I've only seen her be chill and awkward in the episodes Jessica has reacted to - but I might have missed it. Let's just hope they've grown and matured since then 🤞 Ain't got time for that internalised misogyny - that can stay in the 2000's along with sperm-shaped eyebrows 🚮
@@Lanzey Oh god, Adrianne got red pilled and I’m so sorry to have to tell you that. Elyse retired from modeling, settled into a career, and got married and had a baby. One of them matured.
@@cheesecake134 yep Adrienne literally says “I’m the only Tom boy here” and “the other girls are crying/complaining but look at me” etc. and the “why do they need black history month” she’s posted on MySpace, and transphobic talking points more recently + q anon nonsense she spews now is not ok. she also said someone should kill themselves for prank calling her in a hotel, totally the opposite of “chill”
I used to love Elyse because I was bookish person but as an adult, damn girl, if your'e so smart you should know there's a difference between educated/good at studying and intelligence.
I'm also a bookish person, and maybe I'm projecting but I think that Elyse wasn't really saying those things because she believes them, but because she was feeling really alienated from the other girls and wanted to convince herself that she's not the one with a problem. I often catch myself doing the same thing if I'm in a group of people where I don't fit in and I can't get away.
@@emmafischell622 I was also thinking she'd be scared of the reactions of her peers going back to uni. But still not an excuse for the heinous things she said. You never call a person worthless.
I think the reason Elyse’s doctor vs. model thing rubbed the others the wrong way was mainly because of her superior attitude. She so clearly thought she was above this industry, she’d be making fun of it while still doing it. A lot of them wondered why she wanted to be there if she hated it so much, it was like she was taking an opportunity away from someone. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing something for a short time (she knew that any modeling career she had would be finite because of the industry’s focus on youth); but constantly mocking the other girls for caring about beauty, fashion, etc. crossed a line. Truly smart people don’t need to constantly brag about their intelligence, or to demean others around them, and she was incredibly rude and condescending to her roommates and to a lot of the industry people she met.
Your comment made me reflect and maybe she was actually genuinely into it but terrified of 1 failing at something that isn't intellectual and 2 any backlash returning to college and having to deal with how her peers there would maybe judge her. That said, not an excuse to be an intellectual snob to the point of being downright rude, mean and condescending.
I mean they were also condescending to HER about wanting to be a doctor. Remember Miss Jay being all “that’s A LOT of work!” when she said she wanted to start medical school? It was like she just had some silly girlhood fantasy and hadn’t been actively working toward the goal for years. I also found it confusing and frustrating when the judges got snippy and told her she was being arrogant and talking down to them after explaining the benefit of classically feminine estrogen features in modeling. She IS an intelligent, educated person, so was she supposed to play dumb in that situation? It only bothered Tyra because she’s long convinced herself she’s the smartest in the room and hates any evidence to the contrary.
@@cheesecake134 I also agree with you. They definitely were condescending to her acting like just because she was doing modeling meant that she couldn't do anything science-based. However, she was also pretty horrible to them in the way she spoke about them. Just because someone enjoys modeling over science-based careers doesn't mean that they also aren't intelligent or worthwhile in their career choice as well. It's definitely one of those situations where I think everyone is wrong. We've long established that Tyra's just an utter trash heap so she's just wrong. But as far as the rest of it goes, I think they're all in the wrong here
You have to remember that in the early 2000s, any performance of femininity was considered vapid and unintelligent, and people who performed femininity were seen as inferior. I was a teenager at the time and experienced it first hand. I was affected by this and spoke like this myself, that was the social climate. Pick me culture, "not like other girls", "one of the boys", "too smart to like fashion". Those were all very real expressions of the anti-feminine trope. And to people who want to say "I grew up at the same time and wasn't like that!" - good for you. A lot of us were. Elyse's behavior wasn't bred in a vacuum. The early 2000s were the peak of internalized misogyny. Good thing we're passed that now.
Godm I remember those days lmao. Somehow girls were supposed to be "one of the boys" but still feminine and interested in boys enough to get approval but not be too over the top or you were an airhead. I do not miss being a teenage girl in the early to mid-2000s lmao. Edit to add: PLUS THE FASHIONS! I'm sorry but low rise hip huggers and too-small polos don't look good on anyone!!!
Hard disagree. I was in middle school in the early 2000s, the time when body insecurities really kick in for girls. The pressure to be a "glamour all star jock" was sky high. The pressure to start makeup, wear certain clothes, and above all, getting a boyfriend? That was all there. That lasted into the mid 2000s, which was high school for me. What happened was the *media* pushed for picture perfect femininity, while the general population began to cling to the "not like other girls" trope while simultaneously following the pressure . Now, the media is heavily into the "not like other girls" stuff, and in various communities I know of that claim they are feminist proceed to slam femininity both in general and when looking at various forms of media. Have you ever heard of Sansa Stark? The hatred for her in the game of thrones series and the book fandom (a song of ice and fire), is really really strong. And they slam her for being "vapid, only likes dresses and songs and tales of knights" with claims that she bullied her sister Arya, who starts out as the epitome of "Not like other girls," up to the point where she's legitimately a brat (she grows out of it but not in the healthiest way. But that's because her arc takes her down a dark path that's not entirely of her own doing). Internalized misogyny is very prevalent today. There's only one difference between then and now: People are starting to call out the "not like other girls" trope. People are starting to defend performances of femininity while still establishing you can be a tomboy or whatever you want to be. And it's really only around the Pandemic where I've started to see people fight back and sorta "switch the tables" on the whole "not like other girls" thing (ie: painting a very real picture of a girl that was never fond of sports and was drawn to makeup and fashion trends and high heels and good hair products).
Also fans only started liking Sansa Stark in Season 6 when she stopped acting traditionally feminine and started waging battles, killing people, basically acting more like her sister Arya.
@@beckyweiss6072 Agree! there was this push for you to be the opposite of whatever was around you, cause if you lean too much into femininity and boys you could be tagged as easy and other horrible words. I also think Elyse's mindset came from a deep insecurity that she masked with "uninterest" and a "smarter than everyone around me" type of attitude. I wouldn't be surprised if looking back she regrets every word said here.
Elyse is the most entertaining thing about cycle 1, and she really was a pretty girl and a good model. But her personality was soooo immature. She put her identity in her intelligence, and I think all of her petty annoyances and insecurities about fitting in gave her this superior, too cool to care attitude. I also think the editing played up that part of her personality as much as they could.
You also gotta remember she was actively being harassed by Robin for being an atheist, and all the girls were being sleep deprived and starved to increase their inability to control their emotions. There's no telling how much production didn't bother to show everyone about how much Elyse was being needled by everyone and this is just the end result of a lot of pent up frustration coming out in an unhealthy way. Like, what happened right before hand that caused her to blow up? Were people messing with her again for being an atheist? Making more comments about her weight?
Giselle was just there having a pleasant conversation, and then there's Elyse out there all like "dishonor on YOU, dishonor on your FAMILY, dishonor on your COW"
Elyse is one of those judgemental people who thinks their way of thinking is the only right way. This is literally the type of doctor that I would hate to have because she's lacking in empathy and a basic understanding of people
Thankfully she never became a doctor. I never understood why she took so much pride about her "applying to medical school". She said as if she was already accepted. Anyone can apply, getting accepted it's the real deal.
@@zairnermuller4960 Nah the real deal starts after you get accepted ... I kinda feel bad for Elyse because it looks like she put her whole self worth in being perfect in every way, but it just made her bitter.
I had a doctor who was judgmental against PLHIV. I was like girl you should know more than I do about the latest trends in HIV medicine and research ahhaha. Elyse would be that type of doctor and say she's "got an intellectual advantage" that's why she isn't in the patient's position
@@zairnermuller4960 I dated someone in medical school. If Robin make Elyse cry over visiting a grave, then Elyse wouldn't go far even with her "intellectual advantage"
Elyse was one of the contestants of ANTM who went on to have a long and lucrative career in modeling. She relished the travel and adventure it afforded her. She never went to medical school as far as I know. Elyse later gave an academic response to college students doing research on ANTM . She ultimately agreed with Jessica. Editing and production shaped narratives that made it easy for audiences to be entertained.
Some photo shoots I think you would like to react to: Cycle 5 - Pin-up; Cycle 8- Girls covered in candy; Cycle 9 - flowers and plants; Cycle 10 - music genre; Cycle 11 - eyes underwater; Cycle 14- blue perfume; Cycle 19- Steam punk; Cycle 21 - Ice royalty; Cycle 21 - sci-fi genetic; Cycle 22- bound by love.
@Jan Paolo Cartel Canteras I kinda thought it would be interesting for her to react because of the photos and Victoria being all over Twiggy's comments BUT GOD YEAH, there was so much more 😱
It's because Elyse preaches the whole season about how she thinks all models are studid and how she's gonna be 'the first model with some intelligence' she acted like she hated the whole thing and joined as a joke. I don't blame Giselle, I don't like her either.
@@4pplesl1ces12 It's funny people are saying this though knowing what top model and Tyra ended up becoming. Is she really far off the mark by thinking she's too good for it? Many of the models were too good for this crap. .... And they weren't wrong for thinking it either
@@Yuri92001honestly the more I see of her I think her approach was just off but she was right these challenges WERE stupid and she was understandably over dealing with Tyra and all the other shenanigans. Was she wrong for insulting everyone there? Yes. But she did have some points about the show being shallow and somewhat demeaning
I mean being a model is way easier then being a doctor comparatively each has their own set of issues or setbacks. That’s why even though she talked down on it deep down she knew it was easier so chose modeling.
@@monbebearmybird1239 that's very very false lol these aren't professions that can be compared. modelling/acting without industry support is not easier than being a doctor and vice versa. i know society still views the arts as easier options when compared to sciences and commerce but we need to change that.
@@monbebearmybird1239 If anyone was beautiful and wanted to be a model then wouldn't a lot of them be more successful then? It is a skill after all, just like being good at medicine. Sure it is more school but some people are naturally good at that too.

@@siribaimusic That's the reality of the industry however. Literally any casting director or designer would say, "I would book them because of their body." It's not the only factor, but it's reality. Your body & your face is determinative if you book certain jobs.
Elyse had a ton of internalized misogyny. I mean, this "i am so smarter than other girls, all they are talking about is just nails and make up" is so 15yo me. I hope, she grew out of this eventually.
I agree. Between talking about how ugly the dress was and how stupid the other girls were for talking about makeup or modeling... I remember feeling like I had to reject typically 'feminine' styles and hobbies if I wanted to be 'interesting' or whatever. I hope she got over that, too.
I loved Elyse’s rant pt 2 when they went on a carriage ride or something later on & one of the men asked her what she thought about the other girls 😭😭😭 she had something bad to say about everybody but when it came to Kesse she was like “I actually really like Kesse , I don’t have a problem w/her at all” LMFAOOOOO
Yes, because how you behave when you’re 20 in one scene on a producer driven reality show is a FANTASTIC indicator of how you’ll behave in your career.
@@jazbarry13 No, it’s really not. Reality shows are not reality. They are real people but real people placed in extreme circumstances. I’m sure the producers saw she was frustrated and then baited Elyse with leading questions to get this rant. That’s how these shows are made. Making an assumption on someone’s character after seeing them in a reality show is naive and lame.
@@cheesecake134 I disagree with the statement that her behavior isn't an indicator of how she might handle her career. It shows that she can't control herself - whether she was baited or not. It shows that she has difficulty working well with others, regardless of this extreme circumstance; which, I might add, she could choose to walk away from at any moment. If her problems lie with the Producers, as your comment suggests, then taking out her frustrations in a tirade against the other contestants is an indicator of misplaced anger and aggression. None of these things are traits I'd look for when selecting a physician. My comment stands. By the way, I'm allowed to make whatever assumptions and judgments I like - just as you are. You're not the gatekeeper to people's opinions.
@@jazbarry13 You also have to remember Elyse was 20 at this time. I would really hate it if someone saw a clip of me at 20(again, on a heavily produced and edited reality show) and used it judge and make nasty assumptions about my character. I’m sure you would too. All I’m saying is a reality show is not a good indicator of how someone is in their personal life and to believe so is naive.
I love how whenever someone mentions 90s supermodels they always mention Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss but rarely include Tyra. I bet that really bothers her 😂
@@yay_danae_nae27 her comment about chocolate too. I’m from the UK and I really don’t like how American chocolate tastes, haha. She’s right, it IS different.
I think Elyse's reaction is better understood within the context of the other episodes of that cycle. A lot of Robin's behavior towards her throughout the show looked like passive-aggressive~barely hidden bullying. People (contestants, judges and probably behind the scenes producers too) kept pushing this narrative on her that she should want it differently, pick only fashion over everything else, be thankful to be here without ever being critical of anything or feeling negative emotions, etc.. She was away from her family/friends/boyfriend for a while and didn't really connect with anyone (until much much later) on the show and was basically all alone. You can see the beginning of a shift in her behavior once they let her see her boyfriend. They're also 10 very very young barely adult women living all over each other under the same roof. All of this generates a lot of tension, stress, and Elyse's reaction to this is cynicism and irony. I'm honestly not surprised she snapped and feel bad for her even if I do not think the things she said were fair or respectful. Edit : Also it's not abnormal to have doubts. Most of us have moments where we feel so defeated we don't even know or feel like we want something anymore. Edit 2 : And I remember she was constantly being questioned about her body and weight, then contestants and judges would make wild assumptions about her having an eating disorder when it wasn't the case. That's not pleasant things to deal with.
@@kherise Robin, other contestants, the judges and as I said probably also the producers behind the scenes, were already pushing these narratives on her, and the first time she got weird comments on her body was the very first episode with the bikini shot. The reaction vid isn't the complete episode and earlier in episode 2 Robin was behaving like a bully with her because Elyse doesn't share her religion. And they literally are 9 (in this episode) people barely out of teenagehood living in shared rooms. Also I'm not excusing what she says at all, there's just more context than only arrogance that could lead to her snapping in the confessionals. It's built up frustration, stress and anger coming all at once since she choses not to confront the other girls and start arguments. Everyone gets mad or frustrated and people aren't constantly behaving in the fairest way. It's easy for us to judge and condemn her with the distance we have on the situation as a viewership, but she was living this irl and you don't always have hindsight and composure when you're under pressure. I'm not saying she's exempt from all criticism, just that extracts from only one episode aren't sufficient to fully grasp what is going on here.
@@mnemos_ I agree we don’t have the full context and she was surely triggered by many issues, personally what annoyed me the most was her ongoing bragging about how she was more intelligent than the other girls and the overall more offensive attitude. And as you’ve said, other than having them living together, their young age is also a definitive factor in whatever conflict they had.
I agree to all of this- we also have to remember this was the super early days of reality competition tv. I think people are was more savvy now about how they’ll be portrayed and how it could affect them after the show ends.
Elyse was the MEANEST and most condescending of her season, always talking ish, and putting down the other girls ...Yet, Robin is considered the "bad guy" (or "mean girl") of the season. I guess such behavior is overlooked if you're non-black, an atheist, and talk all of your ish behind a curtain (instead of more directly to people, as Robin was more likely to do).
Jessica never quesion your comedic instinct. You are hands down one of the funniest youtubers of all time. "A doctor..? You wanna save lives? What, you're e gonna give medical advice?" 😂💀
Elyse kinda acts like she joined ANTM because she lost a bet or something lol. Or she enjoys modeling but has the need to put others down and point out how much smarter she is because she is like "I'm not like the other modeling girls".
She joined a show that didn't exist yet, because there was a scouting booth in her local mall, and she was there with her boyfriend and did it to make him laugh. She never expected it to become anything, but then was invited to NY and she was like: sure, free trip to NY, let's see what this is all about. If you then end up in such a wild circus, being an introvert, but also a perfectionist who doesn't want to give up...
Katie said she wanted to do acting and TV after the show was over. She ended up being one of the briefcase girls on Deal or No Deal, so she kind of got her wish. And what happened with Elyse was probably a build up of stress that just came out. Doesn’t excuse what she said, but it may explain why she said it the way she did. Frankly, if I had someone like Robin use Bible passages to attack my own character, I’d probably go off too.
I don’t think anyone who really wants to be a doctor wastes a year on reality TV or modeling in Hong Kong. When Elyse didn't win ANTM, I thought she was going to med school. but what did she do? She signed with an agency and left the country instead of enrolling in school. Plus she got in trouble with the law when she abused her boyfriend.Girl bye.
All I keep thinking is that saying: hurt people hurt other people. Her rant and the things she said definitely weren't okay, but also she felt completely alienated from everyone else. So it's not surprising. She probably didn't mean the things she said
she really reminds me of that one kid in school that did everything they could to shut themselves out and be edgy. like would it kill you just to communicate how you feel? not everyone is going to be on the same page as you, but if you don't even attempt to let them know how their actions effect you and you just bottle up that negative emotion, it's only going to result in disaster. elyse really seems to thrive on this "i'm being tormented in this dark world" mentality.
In all fairness those kids often are tormented IRL by people who actively make them feel like outsiders on a regular basis through bullying and other forms of mistreatment so it’s not like they’re just like that out of nowhere, it’s understandable for someone who has endured a certain amount of trauma over several years to be at least somewhat distrusting of others but Elyse is different because she willingly came on a show called America’s Next Top Model to say how much she hates modeling.
@@ii954 no, they don’t, not the ones i’m talking about. they think everyone is supposed to magically know their thoughts and feelings and then get their panties in a bunch when no one does.
When Elyse got eliminated for acting above the competition she said something like “they said I think I’m better than everyone else, and they’re right” lol 😂 I love Elyse. Funny enough she has a very successful modeling career in Asia before going into the technology profession, so maybe she didn’t hate modeling as much as she claimed.
In her book she said that real-life modeling is not at all like top model, so she liked it much more. She stayed snarky though, her blogs were hilarious. I think the snarkyness is the best attitude when it comes to the modeling world, that takes itself waaay too serious.
The way Elyse was at this time in her life, she had the wrong temperament to be a good doctor. She did come off as the stereotypical arrogant surgeon, but that really doesn’t fly in this day and age. Perhaps she has grown and matured and would be a better candidate now, who knows? But it looks like her life took a path away from Medicine.
This season had me hooked when I first watched a few years ago! I loved the eventual friendship between Elyse and Adrianne and how they ended up including Shannon later too. Was sweet to see after all of the drama in the earlier episodes. Was sad to hear that it didn’t last after the show though.
I believe things happened behind camera, which built up the resentment and anger in Elise. There were clearly some clashes during the day, or even a week between the girls, which lead up to this blow up. Thing Elise said we're hurtful, there's no denying that, but there had to be a reason why she went that far.
The fact she didn’t fly into a violent rage the *second* Robyn showed her that Bible verse proves she has more restraint than me. 😂 People in the comments really want to hate on Elyse but are forgetting the absolute horrendous behavior of Miss Robyn that season. She was a bully to Elyse, full stop.
@@cheesecake134 Yes this! The bible verse scene was BEYOND disgusting and straight up bullying. What Elyse said was disgusting, but I'd say a 1x breakdown backstage to a camera is less bad then someone actively bullying someone through the WHOLE season for not being Christian. Elyse certainly had a superiority complex to a certain point, but so did Robin in her own religious way, and hers was openly toxic. Plus we had Elyse in ep1 being told her body is super skinny by other girls, have rumours spread online that she might have an ED, get judged by Adrienne in this episode in the car for not responding when she had headphones on. They really did not like her, so I wouldnt be shocked if there was even more we didn't see. I'm not even a huge fan of Elyse, but the hate she got at some point all whilst Robin got away with it, possibly since at the time more people were Christian, was ridiculous. I'd rather be in a room with an Elyse talking smack about me to a camera, then a Robin spend a whole season bullying me in my face and making sure I KNOW about it, sheesh.
Not y’all making excuses for elyse calling others worthless. Like whoooo tf are you elyseeeee?!? And you want to be a doctor and care for others with an attitude like that?!?
She gives me gay vibes and as a queer woman (lesbian, and also ironically enough, a doctor) I'm ashamed to admit I went through a "not like other girls", internalised misogyny phase myself, as a young girl. It's a combination of society's blatant misogyny being imprinted on one's psyche and genuinely not fitting in with other girls due to my queerness. It's a shame so many young women go through this phase and it's blatant evidence of the patriarchal society we live in.
The producers must have done something to prompt this tirade from Elyse. However, I’m sure they were delighted when they got more for their efforts than they ever dreamed possible.
as i have followed her, watched adrianne and shannon’s insta live, other people on reddit and some info from luxeria, i have concluded for myself - she is just book smart and zero street smart
Season 1 was ICONIC! Elyse, Ebony, Robin and Adrienne came out with some of the best lines in antm history. You really should just react to the whole season. 🤣
When I was a teen/kid originally watching this episode I remember thinking, wow that rant was really uncalled for. Now as a disgruntled adult watching this back with you, I'm like, I'd be saying the same damn thing to that camera lol ain't nobody got time for passive aggressive Bible quotes and "ThAT'S a LOt oF wOrK"
I remember Giselle being really insecure due to her mom belittling her, she said her mom was going to throw it in her face when she was eliminated. It showed but I felt like the judges shamed her instead of actually helping her build her self esteem.
This video led to a Google search which led to a Reddit talking about the rant. Haha. It made so much more sense with context. But I also saw some photos she took after and about how successful she was. Her post show photos were sooooo good!!
The plus-size thing is that they tried to break a mold when the industry was about all skinny people. So they used to cast at least one plus-size girl every season. It is bad that they identified her every minute as "the plus-size", but again, this was shot many years ago, when these were something new for the fashion industry. It is like the current years when people say something like "this is my gay friend", and stuff like that. People do not need to bring up these facts every minute.
Robin was definitely controversial, but I love her conviction and her confidence. She didn’t let any of the higher-ups pressure her into doing something she didn’t want to: she and Shannon were right to not let Jay or the judges shame them for not doing the nude photoshoot, there’s nothing empowering about a woman being bullied into taking off her clothes. And whenever the fashion people said there was no market for plus-sized models in high fashion, she just clapped back that they had better get ready to make room for her.
Not for nothing if you are actually into fashion you would have seen most of the top models tits because brands make you and it’s apart of displaying clothes. If they don’t like they should go for catalog. It’s just the high fashion industry
when you talked about Shannon at around 16:50 it gave me flashbacks to the all-star cycle where they had her back and did her even worse with constantly trying to get her to pose in underwear and tearing her apart when she didn't mind posing in swimsuits, they tried so badly to get to her all the time it was so uncomfortable to watch
Now I may be aging myself here, but Is it just me who gets the vibe of windows media player visualiser playing on the projector in the background of the catwalk.
The fact that people can't decipher when someone one is being honest and real; to someone be rude and carrying a, "I'm better than you attitude" is concerning. There is nothing real about sitting in a confessional talking about other individuals, if Elyse was so real, she would have had a conversation with the very people she has an issue with. Please stop with the, she is the most successful, and, that doesn't take away the nastiness she displayed in this video. Being self proclaimed intelligent doesn't give you a Segway to being nasty to someone, and people think it's cute to say they act that way, all I'm going to say is you know who to do it to lol.
I've seen the posts from a certain model's finsta account that was very reminiscent of Elise 😆 That being said, J's critiques were very accurate, Ebony's face had too much tension and looks much better on the runway when she softened up. Shannon fit perfect in the Molly Sims lane and Elise looked straight off a Prada runway.
Anyone else used to read Elyse's Livejournal blog??? That was the best. She modeled in Asia for a long time after the show and did pretty well. Her writing was hilarious.
You’re right, Jessica, the chocolate in Australia is different! They modify the recipe to cope with our horrendous summer heat and unconscionably intense sun! 😁
Runway is chaos lol even with hangers and helpers. I've done at least 30 of them. And it's extremely stressful. Half the time you're walking to your place as your adjusting pieces.
I mean it's the first season. Elyse, along with all the other women, definitely didn't know what the show would be like. Maybe she did have real aspirations to model beforehand but the show just killed that passion
Elise says she’s an atheist and Robyn pushes Bible verses on her. She says she is interested in med school, she gets picked at for it. By the captions, it seems J inferred she only wanted it because her boyf is a doctor. Then to top it off, she’s in a house with strangers she has nothing in common with (who later talk behind her back about her supposedly having an ED). It’s understandable that Elise may have just snapped.
I absolutely agree with you. I'd think they were definitely vapid and empty conversations. All these girls are so young, have had no life experience and really hardly any education from the sound of it. I'm an agnostic and if someone I had to live with was pushing bible verses at me, I think I'd probably end up pushing some of those verses where the sun doesn't shine, at the end of the day. I can completely see Elyse's frustration. But what I don't understand is why she didn't just go home. I understand that the episodes aren't necessarily filmed in order, but as soon as she realised that this really wasn't for her, just go home. What's lose? Go to medical school and do that instead.
@@ForceFreeTrainergirl06 I think she did want it, but she was struggling. She said it herself, she isn’t used to performing poorly and I think she was struggling with the idea she might not be good enough. After the show she went on to have a successful modelling career and later in the season she does warm up and admit she does want to model, so I think a lot of the early episodes were bravado.
I don't know what Elyse was expecting from ANTM. Was she expecting conversations that had nothing to do with modeling...in a modeling competition? It wouldn't be so bad if her disdain for the other girls wasn't so visceral, and honestly, unwarranted. Like we 2 episodes in...who has done enough to you to make you feel this strongly in that short period of time? Did she ever stop to think, maybe she was the issue? Naw, ppl like that never do lol
@@winterdreambell right but in just two days what could possibly happen that you write somebody off as wasteful and stupid?? @@winterdreambell there usually is, yes, but these contestants have the option to take the bait or not. And even if she fell for it, she legit overdid it. She called a girl she knew a c***. Like, sheez lol
@@KeepingItReal66441 Tbh judging how the other girls treated her in later episodes I don't feel really bad about the rant.. like I think she's right y'all 😶😭
I really enjoyed Elyse on the show when it was originally airing, it seemed like she was the most honest person about what was really going on. Now, I definitely see that she was clearly insecure and doing a very reject-you-before-you-reject-me kind of thing, but I still feel like at least she was honest about how she was feeling. 😂
If Elyse was a doctor…she shouldn’t be. Awful tableside manners. Not in it for helping people. Clearly she is not the empathetic kind. She would be the kind liable for malpractice.
Being older I understand Elyse’s reaction to not wanting to be a model better than I did when I watched it as a youth. She even said herself she isn’t used to under performing or not performing well. She did what I (and a lot of self proclaimed perfectionist/high achievers) do and that’s reject something before it rejects her. It was definitely a defensive reaction to feeling inadequate. Also I think she was an introvert thrust into a highly social environment with no escape. That rant was probably her stressed and tired and at her worst but we’ve all had those moments, they just weren’t televised.
This is all just my theories and assumptions, cause I don't trust reality tv 😂
she did all that and never became a doctor 😭
I thought so too! She seemed to only say she hated modeling when she thought she was bad at runway walking in ep 2
It's kinda funny she shat on it but earned her dollars there
*THIS* is the Ms J I liked.
Actually giving feedback that's constructive and "funny" in a good way. Not just mean one-liners TRYING to be "mean funny."
_wish this act stayed the entire series...._ 😮💨😔
The producers must have asked him to be more like his persona of being a diva.
But we can agree, we know for a fact production and Tyra caused most of this.
LOL
I love just talking through things with someone. 😊💙
And we can both still agree , PRODUCTION is the main evil ones. At least DEFINITELY behind this show. I watched Jeanna (sp?) Turner's video and was in tears listening to how Tyra treated her and how production did. Absolutely disgusting.
Elyse just really wants to make sure that EVERYONE knows that she is NOT like the other girls 😂 How 2000’s of her 🌸
You must’ve missed Adrianne Curry’s whole thing that season then, huh? 😂
@@hankypanda omg I did not know that. She was also probably very traumatized by Tyra that she feels prejudiced towards black people now
The whole irony is that Elyse is the breakout model of this season. She did have a very successful modeling career.
I used to love Elyse because I was bookish person but as an adult, damn girl, if your'e so smart you should know there's a difference between educated/good at studying and intelligence.
Preach! 📣
Yass! People think, just because you are book smart that that makes you intelligent. It does not. Please say it louder for the people in the back! 💯
THIS IS ACCURATE! 💯💯💯
I absolutely 💯 agree.
But as far as the rest of it goes, I think they're all in the wrong here
She was above the industry tho.
Lol no. Never happened. "Performance of femininity" what even. Did a gen z highschooler write this?
EBONY is the most entertaining thing about Cycle 1. When she disappeared, Robin had to take in the reins. Elyse was plain snarky
WHY was it okay for Elyse to be condescending and bishy, though (but NOT Robin)?

Yes, because how you behave when you’re 20 in one scene on a producer driven reality show is a FANTASTIC indicator of how you’ll behave in your career.
@@cheesecake134 But it IS an indicator nonetheless.

Ok but this was episode 2. It was tricky editing or how do you actually explain this over the top rage of hers if the show only started ?
You guys basically nailed it.

THANK YOU! I've been waiting for you to cover this! Elyse is my all time favorite.
Your advice section had me DYING.
She called Giselle the c-word worthless and her parents should be ashamed. Outright cursing her. Hell yes she went too far.
I mean, they get paid and get exposure, that's 2 reasons.

Also those kids do oftentimes say how they feel? Is t that usually why they end up getting ostracized in the first place?
@@ii954 no, they don’t, not the ones i’m talking about. they think everyone is supposed to magically know their thoughts and feelings and then get their panties in a bunch when no one does.
Not Jessica agreeing with Mr. J on not “being tight in the booty”...I’m dying!! 😆😆💀
I LIVE for your level of sarcasm!! 🤣🤣🙌🏼🤗🥰
I’m dying laughing on my lunch break, thanks to you 😂!!!!
The squeaky voice reaction to the girl wanting to be a doctor was hilarious!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love your videos 🥰❤️✌🏾
It also could have been the way it was edited. We’re shown what they want us to see.
In her book she said that real-life modeling is not at all like top model, so she liked it much more. She stayed snarky though, her blogs were hilarious. I think the snarkyness is the best attitude when it comes to the modeling world, that takes itself waaay too serious.
You probably have the same attitude as Elyse
@@Bianca_Toeps Heyyy, someone else who used to read Elyse's blog!
For someone who claims is smarter than everyone else, one would wonder why she couldn't become a doctor.
ONLY you to get me to watch these episodes of ANTM without crying for those girls...
Tyra “Only I can judge! Get your own style” 😂
Girl, I missed your antm videos you never fail to crack me up!! Put em on blast every time I love it 😂🤣
The way Elyse was at this time in her life, she had the wrong temperament to be a good doctor. She did come off as the stereotypical arrogant surgeon, but that really doesn’t fly in this day and age. Perhaps she has grown and matured and would be a better candidate now, who knows? But it looks like her life took a path away from Medicine.
Jay: What do you want to do after this?
Jess: Eat !
Lmao me too girl me too!
You should react to the Cycle 8 episode where the girls pose with ice cream and Brittany gets frostbite.
It was Cassandra, not Brittany
@@syedmazharhasan6803 Oh damn I forgot about that
👏🏽 right!🙄
Brittany did have that bad weave which started to irritate her scalp
I reacted to that yesterday but I didn't see where she got frostbite? Can you let me know what episode / time stamp it is? Thank you!
This season had me hooked when I first watched a few years ago! I loved the eventual friendship between Elyse and Adrianne and how they ended up including Shannon later too. Was sweet to see after all of the drama in the earlier episodes.
Was sad to hear that it didn’t last after the show though.
yeah but elyse screwed over adrianne that was the end of there friendship
@@alisonb1673 Exactly. Like I said, sad it didn’t last. :)
It's a shame so many young women go through this phase and it's blatant evidence of the patriarchal society we live in.
omg the music change lol amazing!
“What- you’re gonna save LIVES? What’re u gonna do- give MEDICAL ADVICE??!!” 💀💀😂😂😂😂😂 Jessica, I can’t with you!! 😂😂❤
The producers must have done something to prompt this tirade from Elyse. However, I’m sure they were delighted when they got more for their efforts than they ever dreamed possible.
Thank you for say good bye… It feels so weird in other videos that it were like cut… when you didn’t say bye. Nice video!
I was so amped for this video that I even got out of bed to put my glasses on
Elyse about Giselle: “Write this down! Dishonor on YOU! Dishonor on your COW-!” 💀
Thank you for the advice segment. It was great
as i have followed her, watched adrianne and shannon’s insta live, other people on reddit and some info from luxeria, i have concluded for myself - she is just book smart and zero street smart
The music you put over the runway 💀💀💀💀🤣
Season 1 was ICONIC! Elyse, Ebony, Robin and Adrienne came out with some of the best lines in antm history. You really should just react to the whole season. 🤣
Ebony making eye contact with the camera is everything 🙌
"I saw then shimmy go round and round!"
@@erinpilla I love it when robin was saying prayer ebony give the look to camera i always cracked up laughing
@@alisonb1673 "this is a competition. this is not a sorority!" lol
Hahaha 😂
When I was a teen/kid originally watching this episode I remember thinking, wow that rant was really uncalled for. Now as a disgruntled adult watching this back with you, I'm like, I'd be saying the same damn thing to that camera lol ain't nobody got time for passive aggressive Bible quotes and "ThAT'S a LOt oF wOrK"
You crack me UP Jess!!🤣🤣🤣
I remember Giselle being really insecure due to her mom belittling her, she said her mom was going to throw it in her face when she was eliminated. It showed but I felt like the judges shamed her instead of actually helping her build her self esteem.
i remember watching that rant for the first time during quaratine and my face was little just :O
You hang out with people who introduce their friends as "my gay friend" ? Doesn't seem like a good friend
Love the windows 95 screen saver as a back drop during the runway teach
the frist season was so thrown together i love it
The music edit is HILARIOUS.
when you talked about Shannon at around 16:50 it gave me flashbacks to the all-star cycle where they had her back and did her even worse with constantly trying to get her to pose in underwear and tearing her apart when she didn't mind posing in swimsuits, they tried so badly to get to her all the time it was so uncomfortable to watch
Now I may be aging myself here, but Is it just me who gets the vibe of windows media player visualiser playing on the projector in the background of the catwalk.
Same! 😆
Oh thanks Jessica....your comic scenes had me rawing with laughter!!!!
Jessica you’re so hilarious 😂. I die every time I see one of your videos 😂😂
Omg Jessica I have the same notebook 😂
Elyse went all 'Dishonor On Your Cow' unprovoked!
It’s even more funny that she hates the industry because she ended up having the most success as a model from this season.
@River McAndrew nope LOL she never became a doctor
This is how my doctor talks when my appointment is over
I've seen the posts from a certain model's finsta account that was very reminiscent of Elise 😆 That being said, J's critiques were very accurate, Ebony's face had too much tension and looks much better on the runway when she softened up.
I came across your channel and you are hilarious 😆 love you!!😂🤣😂❤️❤️🎄⛄🦌💯
Runway is chaos lol even with hangers and helpers. I've done at least 30 of them. And it's extremely stressful. Half the time you're walking to your place as your adjusting pieces.
The funny thing is that Elyse ended up being the most successful model on her cycle when she talks bad about modelling 😂
Sadly I have actually done runway modeling that went almost exactly the way this event went! More than once too.
Yeah “later” they talk behind her back - I wonder when this confessional was actually filmed in the timeline of reality? 🤔
Remember that this is a reality show, there's definitely more that happened off screen the producers definitely stirred something up.
@@winterdreambell right but in just two days what could possibly happen that you write somebody off as wasteful and stupid?? If I was in this competition I would be too busy still learning people’s names by day 2. Like no emotionally healthy person should feel this much hate for someone they just met.
@@winterdreambell there usually is, yes, but these contestants have the option to take the bait or not. And even if she fell for it, she legit overdid it. She called a girl she knew a c***. Like, sheez lol
@@KeepingItReal66441 Tbh judging how the other girls treated her in later episodes I don't feel really bad about the rant.. like I think she's right y'all 😶😭
This is why we need all the full, unedited film because who knows what production did to get someone to go off like that.
That rant was probably her stressed and tired and at her worst but we’ve all had those moments, they just weren’t televised.
you should do a reaction of Supermodel Me Revolution sometime! Loved your reaction here!
Your filters make me crack up every single time ☠
I felt like I am watching the office when J said the dress looked good and then in the confession Elyse said it's hideous 😂
