Sea otter pup wakes up before mom
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 бер 2017
- When you observe and don't disturb, you can see fascinating natural sea otter behaviors! There are so many interesting behaviors packed in to this 6 minute video, it's hard to know where to begin! The Sea Otter Savvy team was monitoring a raft of females, many with pups, and a territorial male in the harbor at Morro Bay when one pup awoke and lost his bearings while his mom continued to sleep soundly (she's at the far right of the frame, very close to shore). Sea otter pup vocalizations are very loud, and are designed to attract mom's attention even in crashing surf or roaring winds. As you will see, the entire raft becomes agitated in response to the panicking pup, but the mom (who probably needs the rest) sleeps on. Females outside the raft vocalize in response to the pups cries, a male pops in and rebuffs the pups advances, and an old territorial male (very grizzled (white fur), at center, near shore) ignores the activity and quietly rebuffs the incoming younger, healthier male. Stick around for the happy ending!
Disclaimer: viewers may hear one of the observers in this video make a comment about throwing a stone at an otter. Arguably in poor taste, the comment was nevertheless a nervous jest in reaction to the unresponsive state of the mother sea otter. Normally, a mother otter would react immediately to her pup's cry. Sea Otter Savvy clearly does not advocate throwing stones at sea otters or any wildlife, and we hope that the comment can be viewed within the context of our extensive outreach and advocacy for sea otters.
That SCEAMING KID woke everyone up in the entire neighborhood. This proves that some parents have selective hearing....
same goes for idiots that own dogs that bark n bark n bark to no end.
@@fadetoblond And that's why I'm a fish person.
@@jedimasterdraco6950 😄 yeah, fish are pretty quiet. 😜
I had the impression that all the other mothers woke up and checked their pups and were wondering where the crying pup's mom was, too. Amazing how relatable this situation is.
I think, if you have this kind of child you will take a deep nap eventually 😵
All I can hear is MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM!!!!
Yeah I started to hear it too. It sounds a lot like Cartman yelling for his mom in my opinion.
Lol!
This is the otter version of being stuck on an airplane with a screaming kid.
I’m a mom and this makes me laugh so hard because it’s so relatable! Just let me sleeeeeeep!
"I thought it was a bad dream." LMAO!
If you are joking about a child being a nuisance you should not reproduce for the sake of the child. It's another human being, not a pet.
@@electric0618 calm down caren!
@@alvinasandra6233 You don't even know what I was replying to 🤦
@@electric0618 okay sorry
Omg baby... crying while going here and there to find his mom. Glad he didnt go far away and can meet his mom 😊
I love what the one lady says how it’s like when you see a toddler screaming in Safeway and you’re just like “geez lady, do something about your kid!” Soooo true!! 😂😂😂
"This child. I swear." - Mama Otter
I was ready to dive into my screen and rescue that pup glad his momma woke up in the end
Rescue it from what there are no predators let nature run its course
Sharks, Whales, Sea Lions, Eagles... are all well documented predators that eat sea otters.
Fascinating!!! I love that this has been documented via recording. What a stunning display of a panicked pup and a mom in need of some sleep. Reminds me of a screaming crying child that got themselves lost in the department store while mom happily shops on, none the wiser. Sea otters are such in incredibly intelligent and interesting little beings.
amazing how that pup can yell so loud without the mother waking up... i'm glad they were both okay, though!
When you’re in the checkout line at the grocery store and your mom runs off to get one more thing
Did you comment this while inside the buggy?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
When you lose your mom in the grocery store
Love the community of women!
So sweet!
My heart was melted for the crying sea otter baby.
Aww! All that build up made the reunion all the more satisfying! Man baby otters can be loud! It’s cool you know how to tell em all apart,
Poor little guy 💔 I'm glad mama came to the rescue
Awwwwww.... sooooo sad... but so cute at the end when he finds his momma....
Agree! Heart breaking to hear that long crying. I'm happy that the baby otter finally found mommy 💟
This mama sure had a crazy night - nobody can sleep that tight)))
I was so worried he was going to swim out to the channel.
Got my heart pumping. Feeling sad and defeated for this pup. It’s like watching a thriller/ suspense movie. Thank momma came to the rescue. Much love to all the beautiful otters.
Fake sleeping! She just needed that extra 5 minutes of rest. We have all been there 😂
Well, it's not like her ears are underwater.
She was hoping if she ignored him long enough he’d give up and go play quietly by himself.
You can hear the little baby sea otter saying mommmmm it's kinda sad how the little sea otter couldn't find its mom for so long. Thank God the little guy did.
That mother needs her rest otherwise they both suffer. Something could have disturbed the baby and caused it to wake up. Because they sleep while the mother is active this makes it particularly hard for the mother to get any rest when there are so many things capable of disturbing her pup.
Cory Dalton Sound so cute and adorable 💙💙
My heart was aching, but all was well with a happy ending. Thank GOD
Glad you waited around and showed mum, my mommy instinct was raging!
Wonderful video, even your comments were hilarious 😆
This video deserve more views, Kinda shows humans not that different from animals.
Reminds me of being at the Walmart McDonalds.
HOW NICE,BOTH GOT TOGETHER,I WAS SUFFERING ALSO.BLESSINGS!
Those other two otters near shore that slept through it all! 🤣
"That momma needs a.... " WHAT? Now, we'll never know. For all we know, she could need a new baby monitor.
Probably can't hear the kid because they sleep on their back and their ears are underwater.
Lovely criatures.
It's too bad the videographer didn't zoom in more, to see the full cuteness of them all.
@Turnips That looks like a pretty decent camera though from just seeing the distant images of them. Perhaps the person just didn't think to do that. Oh well, they're still pretty adorable either way. I would've liked to have seen them up close though.
@Turnips Yeah you have a point. I have a 600.oo security camera on my home, that when zoomed...really sucks...and yet my crappy little 1990s (60.oo) panasonic camcorder that still works awesome....takes amazing zoomed images. Go figure huh?! lol
Momma needs an alarm ⏰
Maybe mum is actually deaf? I was so worried
I wondered that but I think she just needed extra rest.
Watching on my cellphone does me no justice. 💻 or 📺 will have to watch again in the morning.
Okay, took me awhile to figure it out. Had to watch in reverse to figure who was who.😆
So this is their version of a grocery store tantrum lol 😂
Adorable
My heart 😭
Oh man that cry gave me a headache. Such a distressing headache.
Lol and its really loud, kinda surprised she didnt wake up earlier
Awe
the book are you my mother scared me as a little kid. i thought i was going to lose my mom.
Oooh the poor baby!
MOM!!!!!! MOM!!!!! MOM!!!!
That was very stressful
That was very stressful, I wished I hadn’t watched
Just wanted to wake mom up, he sounded so pitiful. Sqeekers, sounds like a dog toy.
Sleeping sleeping some one call care services that poor baby lol she woke up in end
mama doen't knows the best
Somebody call CPS...
Great video but maybe next time you tape them let the otters do the talking.
Thanks for the feedback. This is intended to be an educational video from an outreach organization. This video without some explanation (which was happening during an on site session for the benefit of the people watching this unfold) is way to open to a wide range of interpretation by the internet world. If your objection is to the "folksy" tone of the narrative, well that's my interpretive personality and I suppose I have to own that.
@@SeaOtterSavvy Don't even acknowledge people like this. I mean, he's saying he wants to hear the baby otter shrieking more clearly, we can tell he's upset about some personal issues.
2:50 "i want to throw stones" how dare they huh ruin your day by screaming. everyone knows this is your world and everything should be for you
Hey Scott, We appreciate your comment. The remark may have been in poor taste but was completely said in jest as the mother otter seemed uncharacteristically unresponsive to her pup's cries. Her lack of response concerned me, and the remark was meant to reflect that, not as a literal suggestion that we (or anyone) should throw rocks at sea otters. If you check out our other content on this channel and our social media, perhaps you can view this passing remark within the context of all the work we do to protect sea otters and increase awareness.
They're all waiting for child support, but sadly thy will never get it...
I would beat it up, I don't care it's a pup.
Waste of time.
Oh my GOD. I can kill that stupid mother otter. Cry of that baby broke my heart so bad. Thank GOD pup and mother were united. I was so afraid that the video was gonna cut short and not show what happened in the end.
LMAO be more salty about nature
Maybe you are right but when you are a mother something changes in you. When I was younger I was more realistic but now I really can't think like that.
What does fantasy figures have to do with anything? Get real.
Cisel Carda some times mom's just wants to sleep in.
'More realistic.' About... Killing an otters mother?
"MAAAAAAA! MAAAAA!"
omg poor baby the mom was out. Glad the baby outer stayed near by. He mustve floated away while he was sleeping. This video made me cried animals are just like us.
Oh , thank god at the end. It was killing me! I adore Sea otters.
Otters chill like us. Love it!
Awwww little baby asking for mom... Such a big mouth lol but cute anyway
I love you baby
this made me so sad :'(
The babe like mooom.
Mum, muum, mum! MuMM!! MUUUMMMM! Mum? Mum?
sounds just like a human baby.
Poor mama she just needed alone time for a bit baby too clingy
He probably always do that and she ignored him. Animals tend to ignore just like us lol
Too much talking.
Oh were you having trouble hearing the baby otter? Or were you distracted from the exciting footage?
