Really cool to see my model used in the video, and I love that you named him Grimey. In my mind he's called grandpa (Grimey Grandpa after watching this video). Big fan, keep up the great work.
Thank you for your awesome work! If anyone else is interested, check out the Grimey Grandpa model here - www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-wrench-gnome-1-140177
Jazza as a interior designer: "That wall could definitely use some streaking grime, it would really bring out the grimdark aesthetic this room needs"
Can't imagine the smell of a wall full of Streaking Grime :D
You got some of dem Paracetamol, dude? ^^
I'd love if Jazza came to my house to give it a Grimsark Aesthetic. No, Jazza, we don't need Bolter holes in the walls. No, Jazza, I do not think it's "a great way to bring in some natural light."
Sir, this is supposed to be a child's bedroom.
Jazza: Aaaaannnnddd?
"Sir this a wendy's"
The fact that they can so severely roast Jazza on one of his own channels just speaks for his character
I predict that jazza, by this time next year, will have his own brand of perfected streaking grime
hundred percent
nope@@bettsdn
This was so interesting!! I totally want to give all of this a try one day.
I really hope you do. It would be fun seeing you do like a disney inspired mini/diorama
Great vid guys! Though one tip from my experience of using enamel washes, is using makeup sponges to pull it back, rather than q-tips, as they tend to leave little fibers all over the place that you inevitably only notice later!
Great job capitalizing on a funny Jazza obsession and turning it into a good video idea. Those of us who watch all the vids totally get where this is coming from lol!
Oh boy, we get to see more AK products. What a noble company. /s
Agreed AK is forever blacklisted in my house.
@@LegionaireSiggi Same here. I have a few things from them that I got from Asset Drop, but have not and will not ever buy anything else from them.
Thank you! I’m impressed that you convinced Jazz’s to branch out! You are all wonderful to watch. I’m so glad you brought Murray onboard. I want a video where Dave uses streaking grime on Jazza!
You guys should do a poll on UA-cam about this, if we like or dont like streak&grime and if we think its to much to use it all the time (spoiler, its to much, its a product that best suitable for trench war stuff and scale models and some very speciffic armys and models in the miniature world, at least that maroon colored one, the light once got a few more applications) and the 3 rust effects once are best for that, rust and stippled on and stippled in to each other while still wet
jazza: streaking grimes the ground
"well I think it looks better" he says.
we never got to see how the popcorn would look after it was cleaned with white spirits.
I think I’m with Jazza.
I really like that contrast PUNCH!! Never mind that fact that I just crushed my highlights, I’m colorblind anyway, who needs’em!!
Thanks for the bit at the end with the white spirits on the removal side. I was watching the grime go on and wondering if it was just drying very lightly or something else happening to it.
This has been an extremely helpful video even for a fan who isn't *as* into the mini painting as I am other aspects of gaming (I love *watching* the process at the hands of others, but my own arthritic hands love *doing* it considerably less).
My primary hobby-crafting through off-&-on quarantines has been upping my leather & wood working game, though. This breakdown on various streaking grimes was *hugely* informative in helping me decide what directions I do & don't want to go with color & brand options, for "aging/antiquing" details like the metal fixtures on my wares 😁
Thanks guys!
How do you think the first & last MIG greens would do for a subtle "patina" effect on faux copper or brass?
Nice showcase! I like both the subtle and the heavy effects tbh. They both have their uses. I don't use mine in an airbrush tho… I just dab them where I want them with a regular brush and then use mineral spirits in the brush if I want to make it look more natural. The dark streaking grime is good for sooty, soaked-through mud stains on clothes, and the rust ones make for good dried bloodstains.
Interesting vid! I think it's hard to rank these objectively due to the specific nature of each effect. I think even the "worst" ones could be considered the best in the right situation on the right model/diorama. Thanks for showing us what they all look like :) I quite like the green algae effects myself, because I love the overgrown/mouldy/mossy type of look.
This is what I thought. Some of these just aren’t being used in the right scenario or in the right way.
Beyond the fact that this is a fantastic video, I love you guys. You bring such playful joy to everything you do that it’s infectious. I love that you add or leave in all your “oops”, too, like dropping the streaking grime bottle on the floor. Thanks for making my Monday morning better!
THE SHADE!!!! The look on Dave's face said it all when Murray made his shady comment!!
I like delicate application of stuff like this.
Really great overview of what's available and for what it would be the most usefull.
Fantastic video. I know for the purposes of this one you had to stay with a certain product line of enamels but you could have just added a homemade oil/mineral spirit wash to see how it holds up to the rest! Maybe an upcoming video?
Thanks a lot, guys you made my Monday better
Very amusing video, and I was looking forward to seeing how the testing went from seeing the title. Though I was a bit disappointed when I realised it was only going to be two brands being tested. My LGS's in SA don't carry either of these brands so I was keen to see how they stacked up to Vallejo and others I can get locally.
First of all.. thanks for this, I think the enamel washes depend on what army or what kinda army/base you're going for, streaking grime in general, racing orks through the desert, definitely dust and deposit at the end
Wow, I'm surprised how good some of these look. I really like most of them.
Remember everyone! All the washes are winners, because they all can shine & grime in their own ways for different things.
Loved this so much!
Brutal application for intense and epic effects all day long!!
That über green looks like my clothing when I cut the grass. It would do well in a lot of applications - foresty things, nimphs, elves, druids - that is a pretty cool effect tbh.
This video was really awesome.
I love what this channel has become.
So useful, thanks for sharing 👍 👍
12:20 “it’s a damn good green-grey wash” as the bottle says “brown-blue wash” 😂 MIG might need to work on their labelling!
I'm with Jazza. Track Wash is my go-to. Streaking grime being too Green for me, TW, over Red, or White looks delicious.
But I find one of my favorites missing... Rust Streaks. Oh, and Exhaust Wash... Another must have.
Can’t wait to see you use some of the Track Wash, Jazza!
"slap it on space bears kinda streaking grime" is the jazzaest sentence ive heard so far
Yep streaking grime applied to Murray when Jazza hears this. 🤣🤣🤣
If you listen very closely during Murray's spraying session, you can faintly hear Jazza foaming at the mouth
Ammo of Mig Starship Wash is my new go-to, and has supplanted Streaking Grime for me.
I really like the MIG wash for wood. I like how intense it is.
great video, it only needed a bit more crazy Jazza streak and grime in my opinion but further it was great xD
Jazza's gonna tell his kids to pick up their bedrooms and they're just gonna pour streaking grime everywhere and he's gonna be like "awesome looks great"
This video was great....my painting method is essentially base colors and then Agrax Earthshadd brushed on (no airbrush) Id be very interested to see a comparison like this but between Agrax Earth Shade, Army Painter Strong Tone, and your winners from this battle.... done using a brush.. or even with a brush vs airbrush.... to get a real good comparison between the most popular arcylic/enamal washes and the brush vs airbrush
I like the subtle
Jazza you should paint a mini in the Grimdark style so you can streak and grime all you want.
If you haven’t done it yet, I’d love to see one where you test the various abteilung oils
So you spray the grime on with am airbrush but how are you cleaning the model off after
Is it possible to use this kind of grimes with a paint brush? I don't have air brush and would like to try some of the shown products :(
MURRAY! SAVAGE 😂😂😂
the AK light rust looks like me after a day in the woodworkshop
Currently using burnt umber oil wash. So using an oil paint and thinning it down.
I love the moss wash, but I'm a swamp hag and would probably make a lot of forested and river/pond themed miniatures rather than industrial/ battle-worn types that are more what you're thinking of for the general purpose finish. Very cool comparison and I love both the basic and improved Grimeys!
Shad is gonna have to guard his sword collection during family reunions lest they end up streaking grimed.
I really appreciate this, a) because I can see how the other washes look b) since Jazza started talking about streaking grime, I went to my local hobby shop and they are completely sold out across Canada... and they still have no stock. So maybe I can find some of these other washes. That being said, maybe in a few weeks or something you could do a video on how to make your own streaking grime? For those of us having a hard time finding availability.
Meeplemart and sunward hobbies in Ontario and Kingdom of titans in Quebec ship country wide and stock AK and mig. Meeplemart and Kingdom of titans also care scale 75 soil works
@@BrendanPace wow, thanks for the info!
@@Stixanimated2 any time. Those places do have some occasional supply issues but do restock regularly. That said all 3 manufacturers make their stuff in Spain so that can be iffy, especially with the temperamental supply chains were dealing with in every industry.
Hobby Sense in Winnipeg also carries AK and MiG and ships internationally (they're my AK, MiG and Vallejo Model Colour hookup)
all the videos that feature jazza and dave make me laugh.
Waited so long for this 😂😂😂
They have a few streaking grimes which one inpaticular is your number 2 ( what's the product code)
Thanks!
MIG oil and grease is my favorite
Which grime shall grime Grimey?
All praise be to the Dave!
So do you have to airbrush this on? Or would brushes work?
I mean at the end of it all it comes down to what you want to achieve with your models if it's a gritty dystopian city scape then make the place as clean or grimy as you want.
if it's just one or two vehicles then maybe just put the grime on them and their crew?
You guy's interaction and humor is the absolute best.
Still completely not sold on the Jazza streaking grime though.. I am more on the subtle side of things.
All the heavily grimed mini's just look very unhygenic and dirty. Sometimes that's ok, but also, you often have mini's that have some level of pride in themselves and keep themselves and their clothing/accessories clean... I am more a friend of the latter type of mini's.
I still don't understand what appeal these have over oil washes. Convenience, I guess? But you can get so much more out of a bottle of thinners and a few tubes of oils.
You can't re-activate oil washes after a week... Being an acolyte of the oil, a lover of the linseed, and a taste-tester of tubes, myself, there's still a value to having a product that operates on a purely evaporative basis...
You have a point. It's for convenience at achieving a uniform shade and application consistency... They transition well, and the gloss is very spot on.
They are not as good as oils, though, to further work on them once dried. But shorter drying time can be both a pro and a con.
@@andrewamann2821 Interesting... I was typing down there, that for "short" after-work, oil seemed to me more workable than enamel... But never considered "weeks-long" further.
I expected this to be you removing it with white spirit opposed to just putting it on the model :D
Of course, he picks the even heavier version of streaking grime lmao. I really liked the MIG accumulated earth effect.
Gotta say, I love mighty streaking grime for interiors then use their black wash. Haha. So yeah, subtly is not for me when it comes to grimdark style. 🤣
Interesting stuff. I prefer to be selective in the use of such defects and enjoy bright clean colours. Still some of those effects are great for specific applications.
I feel I'm In a very opposite way of like, I like things to be dirty and feel used.
Okay Okay... that's all cool... but what was that synthesized "Website" at 2:54?! I'm not the only one hearing that, right?
You're not the only one.. Would love to know the story behind that one
We heard it too. Loud and clear. Either to cover a mess-up that they are too lazy/time crunched to re-record, or just some inner joke. At this point, does it even matter? :D
@@szabib8048 BUT I WANT ANSWERS!
I bet this was a lot of tedious fun.
I wish we could have seen straight comparison on the screen, like two cheeto dusts side by side, otherwise loved the video and I think I like the green algae one best bc ocean and green 😁
I think streaking grine can give a very cool and quick effect, but using it on a finished paintjob tends to really desaturate it and reduce contrast :/
But if your painting plan takes that into account beforehand, you can pre-select colors of extra saturation so that your end result after the grime lands where you intend it to. You can could conduct a multi-color test on a board made from the same material as the model, perhaps even with a texture pattern molded into the board.
@@AceFrahm for sure, however that is very difficult to do in practice. Much easier to do a highlight step after the grime is dry. Also most of the time jazza has just grimed over normal finished paint jobs 🥲
Murray with the burns
I love streaking grime, as long as it's not running out in public...
Jazza shall be forth known as the "GRIME REAPER"
Each of these washes has a specific time and place (though I agree the subtle ones are kind of pointless). So there's no real point in choosing "the best", they're not meant to wash random figures anyway. I mean sure it works, but might be better to split them up into categories first.
This was great although my favorite, the Mr weathering color washes/filters was unfortunately not here. My favorite is their mutliblack and shade brown colors
Is Mr Weathering Color the same as these products?
@@tristb3225 it's more of an oil wash I think, it's really thin and it behaves the same
Delicate for cleaner good guys, full on sludge for my CSM, necrons, and demons
2:55 Dave momentarily turns into the google translate guy! ROFLMAO!!
I think we have a pretty obvious solution here, just put streaking grime over Jazzas eyes and he’ll be happy with everything he sees
Question: did Jazza accidentally spilled the streak and grime or was that preplaned?
I also loved that when Dave was speaking about the sponcer they did an text to speech to "fix" what he said
Now do one with all the citadel washes lol
nobody tell them they can make their own oil washes of any colour with oil paints and mineral spirits
I was really worried at first because I disagreed with almost every opinion these two gentlemen had. I was convinced it was a bit....or at the least Jazza would set them straight. I am happy he did . BRUTAL and EPIC. Subtle is a complete waste of time for 99% of people looking at a mini.
I want your custom grimmie
We Tried EVERY ENAMEL WASH So You Don't Have To: The Roast of Jazza
I want more Murray content!!!
if i have a meckanic charackter then engine grime is the one to go for.
*takes a sip* Hmmm... Needs more Streaking Grime!
(Seriously Jazza, are you going to release a "Needs more Streaking Grime" tshirt yet or what?)
Is this a stupid question, but being enamel based will these treatments protect the paint job on a model and make it more durable?
It was just amount of time before jazza did this video
dumb question...... what would happen if you mixed the two?
"Wait, Jazza here?"
Oh..
The actual video starts ar 4:00
Well this plan backfired >XD
if your after something more subtle i wouldnt use an enamel wash, id use dry pigments.
If I'm going for grime, it's gonna be darker or browner so not gonna lie those light oranges or yellows just... don't do.
If I want lighter, dryer, dustier stuff, I won't use grime.
*Steve Irwin pops up*
GRIMEY!
Am I the only one seeing that there's only 9 Top 10 Streaking Grimes? xD
why dint u try vallejo sreaking grime
track wash
the vallejo dip washes are way better for miniatures than all this grimes that are made for engines etc moastsly made for brush aplication. or just juse miniature washes or oil washes
