To me as a Wisconsinite, Jack referring to 85-90mph as a normal highway speed is the most Illinois moment ever captured on this channel.

It really sucks man in South Africa the F80 was never sold as a manual and I want one REALLY BAD but importing ain't worth it for me, really SAD...
A used F80 manual commands a premium over the DCT models (if you can even find one). I own a 2018 DCT model, and while I love this transmission, I still pine over a proper manual. Curious how the auto transmission in the G80 compares to the DCT.
@@nuevocomienzo9571 Auto does 90% of what the DCT did, but feels a lot more pedestrian and less racy than the full throttle upshifts/awesome downshifts of the DCT. You get the same basic kind of trans in the M340, 330, etc.. there's a reason Porsche is still using and developing them
I used to have a LCI F80 Manual. That stick was frankly one of the only things I actually "loved" about that car.
@@papa_pt True but the ZF doesn't have the low speed jerkiness and harsh often unsettling upshifts. The BMW DCT was never on par with the PDK or Audi DSG IMO, its not a loss but its a shame BMW couldnt develop something better

Unpopular opinion... the 4 door is the best looking modern BMW I've seen so far. Decrease the size of my fair lady's beaver teeth and we'd be in business.
IMO the best looking modern BMW is the 2018 BMW M2. It looks good at every angle.
@@SiRSteel69 Have to agree with you, the 2018 M2 imo has a strong resemblance to the e46 m3 in terms of design language and for me it looks sleeker than the latter.

Size is just right for stuff and family, engine is an absolute savage, looks great IMO, modern tech, fast as hell, handles great, decent gas milage, sporty when you want, comfortable when you don’t & last of the manuals…

I may be in the minority, but I genuinely LOVE the beaver look on the sedan ONLY. It’s hideous on the G82. But the G80? It just works. I’m also happy that you can get it in manual. It’s definitely on my short list of daily driver purchases for my next buy.

Mark my geeky works. In 6 years when they come out with the new BMW M3 and they double the size of the grill again, every car review UA-camr is going to say "I liked the grill size in the last gen! - or - the size of the grill of the last gen wasn't that bad!"
@@YaYousef5 there's no way they keep this design. They're gonna facelift this and put the M2 grill on and everyone is going to want to but the facelift.

The Giulia looks like a jelly bean 1999 Ford Contour. I'm ordering an M3.
In terms of looks, the last generation m3 had a sleek profile, and was atleast comparable to the gorgeously sculpted Alfa. But with this new hot mess, the whole sleekness is lost and the confident face is replaced by beaver teeth. The only redeeming factor about this car is the 6spd manual.
@@sidshady7413 The Giulia is nowhere near as 'gorgeously sculpted' as a lentil. Seriously. Look at a 1999 Ford Contour. Same thing. It's a sad attempt at smooshing the Alfa 8C into a sedan shape. There's zero of the charm of classic Alfas, and the only worse looking Alfas are the 147 GTA and the SZ. At least the SZ is interesting.
Both the M3 and the Giulia are genuinely thrilling (as in kinda scary) to drive, even in automatic and blow away something like the Audi RS5 for drama.
@@thinkfaster that's the beautiful thing about beauty, to me the Giulia is one of the most beautiful sedans of all time whereas the last gen M3 was uninspired and the current M3 is downright garish.
Its been said before but it must be said again, i love all the technical sheets, graphs, and materials you guys get and post in these reviews in the mechanical/shop portion. I always have my phone ready to pause so I can read through them, really good stuff to nerd out on!

Just when I thought another M3/M4 comparo was too much to bear, you guys’ ability to personalize the driving experience made it fun to watch.
Aside from that grille, it’s good to see that BMW still knows how to make a good driver’s car especially with something that has a straight six and manual transmission which you don’t see often nowadays
I'm pretty sure you don't see I6 manuals anywhere else, unless I'm missing something.

Jack - the gear ratios are perfect. If you have gears that are too high you fall into the big Porsche manual mistake of gears being too high that you can't use on the street or too many gears in a manual that cause missed shifts. Thank you BMW for getting it right! Great review other than that one point guys!

If you’re still complaining about the grilles, you’re missing the point.
Remember in the early 2000s when Audi went to a massive singular grille, and then Lexus soon followed, and then Hyundai too?
The times, the times - they are a changin.
Having said that, I think the M3 looks far less distracting than the diamond-cross-hatch style of the standard 3 and 4 series.

To be perfectly honest, I am not a car person. I don't 100%follow the under body segment, but I find the videos entertaining nonetheless. Keep up the good work!
Much like the coupe SUVs, BMW knows what sells. As much as people complain about the 4 series, they're selling well. 2600 sold in June vs 4800 3 series. The way the internet talks you would have thought the 4 series would have been only 10% of 3 series sales, anything but.
Also worth noting the vast majority of these are sold in the US, people need to stop blaming the grill on the Chinese market. This atrocious giant grill is for the US, and it's working.

You can easily code the fake engine noise off, without affecting the actual exhaust.
You can code it out. But you can't code out the grill.
You can always fix the exhaust. You’re not fixing that abomination of a grill.

The new M3 and M4 are so good because Alfa Romeo gave them a wake-up call when the Giulia Q kicked the F80 M3's ass...
You can at least drive the BMW. The Alfa does look good on a lift with its hood up though.
Alfa romeos are so shitty inside. The leather feels like shit. Everything squeaks and it’s like a Audi rip off minus quality.
Apart from the bad looks, the fake exhaust note these BMWs though, it's a big facepalm for me. It only makes me appreciate the giulia qv more.

@Steven Strain ? Lexus had the hourglass grills from the mid 2000s. It just grew bigger and joined into a single grill in 2014.

@@papa_pt 01 Lexus LS has a big front grill similar to the 05 A8, but it wasn't an hourglass yet.
My comment wasn't really about copying though. It was just that people said Lexus front grills were ugly. But the BMW grill is a step above.
