Just wanted to thank you for putting this door lock fix video up. One of my doors started making the same noise you demonstrated. Had the same lock and a $13 set of parts and some time later - problem fixed.
Ebay. It is a common part for other cars we have here. Mazda and the Australian Ford Falcon uses the same parts. You might have to look at ebay.com.au Try a search on "Ford lock door actuator". If it doesn't show up then include the word Falcon or repair kit in your search.
Excellent!! You saved $104. Those guys who sell the parts are crooks. Thanks for the video, you inspire me to fix my own things instead of buying new parts.
Fantastic video! Thanks for making it. Now I know how to take apart my central locking mechanisms. My central locking is sticky, especially on the left side, that gets the most heat from the sun. On hot days, the locks don't work on that side. Presumably, the internal mechanism needs re-lubricating. I'll take one apart, for a look and possibly use silicone grease to fix it.
Thank you for the vid! I searched eBay for "Mazda Falcon Actuator Gear", I got a set of 5 plastic cogs for $7 USD shipped. Save you a trip to the junkyard, plus extras when the next one breaks!
What year, what market Corolla? What is the manufacturer ID on the actuator, if there is one, like Bosch, Denso, or Mitsubishi? Take it apart and tell us which part broke inside the actuator.thx 4 watching!
In these kind of things, you could produce these with 3D printer. Don't know if they have, but it would be great to have a scanner that can scan 3D dimentional objects so you don't have to model them first with computer in order to print it.
That's a crappy design (the real problem) - solenoid actuated locks are more dependable. A nice fix! I'd do exactly the same. Thanks for posting video!
Hi there. I have a 2005 Chevy Uplander and my door lock switch only works when locking the door, When I press the button to unlock, It doesn't unlock and makes no noise. Any clues? Thanks
Watch your video and it's cool Frist time that I have seen someone do it the fun way it was a lot of fun and did enjoy it , I fix a broken switch for him the same way as you try ,it worked hope to see more of your videos. Thanks Charlie Pena
(Also where would I buy a part like that?) All of the problems with my doors and stuff have been because of the plastic that they use. I'm not sure if it's for every older vehicle but for my mazda it's just getting ridiculous how brittle all the plastic has become and broken!!!
Never checked the other 3, but based on the service manual rough images, they are identical. This keeps manufacturing and parts warehousing costs down. L - R sides could be mirror opposite images.
TED6667 Absolutely. I`ll shoot a video on just that. Some I guess may not. OK. There is an accident. Vehicle is a total loss or total write-off, but not a mangled wreck. Owner is paid, wreck is taken. Basically, the auto insurance company sells these wrecks at an auction to wreckers for a few hundred dollars.Wrecker buys them, hangs out a big sign "You Pick" or something like that and hopes to sell in parts more than they paid for the wreck. They scrape by. Of course, the big-ticket items are engine, tranny, PCM, drive line. So I get to pick whatever I need. Cars are in isles in the yard. There are no shelves or bins or stock. No technicians to ask anything. No manuals, no diagrams. Bring your tools.
thornwarbler I haven`t considered that. It barely freezes here. Much like in London, UK., and the other locks are fine. And I`ve never heard about this issue before. I have an "old and brittle plastic" theory, due to the petroleum grease on it?. It was kinda` chippy when drilled into, but more so on the outside. Had a nice soft long shaving from the inside. Another one: Could be signal lenght issue (powered for too long) from the door lock control module. It the center tab is slammed into the groove end every time, it could stress the shaft with overtorque that kills over time. I don`t have an oscilloscope to check it, but will do.
+Alexander Marshall Ewart Check key fob battery and car battery connections and charge with voltmeter. ua-cam.com/video/swB4mLVMNzw/v-deo.html If good, the Keyless Entry Module is usually near the rear window or rear seats, check for loose wires plugged into it. Mine is here 3:14 - 3:17 the square unit in the middle of the picture ua-cam.com/video/g_fwBlVQeo8/v-deo.html If nothing is visually wrong, find service manual in library, (the 2000-page real one) find the keyless control module chapter and read about it.
One determined man in saving a few quid, well done
$105, not happening. LOL, love you bro! You're a man after my own heart. "No way am I paying $105 for 35¢ piece." Amen bro.

Thanks for watching. As I`m on mission against ripoff pricing and sales practices, good score.
Where did you get the $13 set of parts?

What year, what market Corolla?

I am from Chile, my Toyota is Corolla 2008 and it is of Brazilian origin
Excellent. Plus nice you included the failed 1st attempt.
Thank you. I used a aluminium rivet knurled with cutter dipped into epoxy. Good job.
smaller screw and glue the screw in place. still great fix all the same

BluWarta92 Totally! Thanks for watching.
theoverengineer Thanks for the video! These neat instructions for everyday situations are fun to watch. Keep it up!
A 3D printer would likely cost more than his Mazda.
I think there are places you can go to and get things printed. You don't need to go and buy the printer yourself.
Great job mann!!
That's a crappy design (the real problem) - solenoid actuated locks are more dependable.
A nice fix! I'd do exactly the same. Thanks for posting video!
So good
Thank you, I had the same thing happen to me........thanks again for your you tube video.
TY
Good work !
AWESOME VIDEO helped alot thank you very much
Thats one sweaty car!
The screw would have worked if you filling the holes with superglue first....lol. But $1 dollar is a hell of a lot cheaper than $100 or $300!
Amen to that. Thank for watching.

None. Some mechanical engagement issue inside. Take it apart, see what it is.
received just the gear for $20. hope I don't break anything else replacing it.
OMG, this what my 2000 Dodge Dakota is doing.
Probably the same $1 part needs replacement. Dig it out let us know.

Are all four door lock actuators the same or is there a different method for the rear doors and the right and left side of the car?
Never checked the other 3, but based on the service manual rough images, they are identical. This keeps manufacturing and parts warehousing costs down. L - R sides could be mirror opposite images.
Where can I find that 1 usd part again?
In 1996 it was somewhere in China probably ... in a big bag next to the granulates ...

Which of the 45 parts you have in mind?
Why not go to the lathe and turn a new axle?
Possible, of course, if set up, takes a lot less time than sourcing a replacement part.
you should have used continius thread on screw
Do auto wreckers let you rummage through their stock?

I wager a frozen door lock caused that shaft to shear
