I am a Board member at Fort Negley and a descendant of a US Colored Troop soldier in the Battle of Nashville. I wish you would of reached out to us at the Fort to add some context to your video. Thanks for highlighting our park!
Great idea! I didn't realize that there was a board for Fort Negley and what an amazing tie to history you have through family. Would you be interested in coming on to our Talk with History podcast in the future? We normally try to make a podcast about each of our videos. 😊 Thanks for reaching out! 😁
If you are ever out in Northeast TN, we have a pretty great little history museum in Greeneville. Has a well done Civil War display highlighting a very little known campaign and battles that happened in our area. Lots of history around for exploring!
I live about 5 miles north of Lafayette, about 60 miles north of the battle site and I've never visited it. I just can't bring myself to go to Nashville. I know one of these days I'm going to have to break down and do it because I also want to visit the site of the Franklin Battle and it's in the same area.
I'm in Rossville, GA. I'm just right by The Chickamauga Battlefield. Chattanooga, of course, is right here and also has a lot to see when it comes to battle sites. I've not traveled to Nashville, to see Battle sites. Now, I'm going to have to make it a point to do so.
My Great, Great, Grandfather defended the fort during the battle (though it never got that close); I grew up during the 1960's and our country just having celebrated the centennial of the Civil War, it was the talk of the 'old timers' at every one of our family reunions. As a kid, I loved hearing the stories... mostly about Morgan's Raiders stealing the livestock and ransacking the family farm in Vinton, Ohio, and how after that the men of the family joined to fight for the Union Army. Alvin Russell fought for the 173rd Ohio and was sent to Ft. Negley.
Most people who study the Civil War know next to nothing about this battle. Coming shortly after Franklin, it's seems more of an afterthought and the final proof that JB Hood had absolutely no business conmanding an army.
Thank you for the feedback. I thought I had that worked out but it sounds like I didn’t. Truly thank you the for note on this as we will work to get better.
To put this in context, you need to discuss the Battle of Franklin. You didn’t even mention the battle at Shy’s Hill and the surrounding engagements. Confederate troops didn’t even reach Fort Negley. Do your research please.

Fort Negley is about 5 miles from my home. I have been there several times. Thank you for the video. It was very informative. Love your channel!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very informative and well done. I enjoy everything you do!
Thank you so much. We appreciate hearing that.
Great video with really sage advice at the end.
This is a battle that i really don't know much about. Great video, you two. And i am loving the way the graphics are done at the beginning.
Thanks Larry! This is a much lesser known battle as it’s at the end of the war. We’re always trying to get better! 😊

That’s amazing! What a cool family tie to history

Truth!!!!
Thank you, never heard of this battle! Very informative!
Our pleasure!
Nasty battle for both sides. Hood wasn’t fit for command. Too many died in the war. Rest In Peace to all 700,000+.
Thomas never gets his due because he died shortly after the war. He was an efficient commander and always performed that way.
I have an ancestor that travelled from West TN to Nashville to enlist in the Union Army .....
How cool!
Turn down the soundtrack !
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching! 😊
The background music is WAY too loud. I could scarcely hear the narration. Frustrated, I quit the video before it ended.

Unwatchable. The music is louder than the monologue.
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching! We are looking into that.

I’ll pass along your feedback to the park service so they can correct the displays and placards we were reading and quoting. Thanks!
More information less of that music please. Unwatchable
