That was a great explanation but all the Anti gun people heard was....30 magazine clip and it weighs as much as 10 moving boxes. But seriously, you are correct...it is not a military grade rifle and is very weak when compared to the average hunting rifle. The only tidbit of information you left out was the amount of legally owned AR-15 rifles that have been used in shootings across all of Canada.

The AR platform has been around since the late 1950s and it's not exactly "ultra modern".
As far as "high powered" [ I hate that term ], the 5.56 cartridge produces less than half the muzzle energy of a .308 and was decsribed as an "intermediate cartridge" with 300 meters as the desired, effective range.
Having added my two bits, this was a very good video, thanks

I loved the video, I myself am a gun owner and love the this platform for its modularity and aftermarket support. The problem we have here in Canada and else where isn't so much the education of parliament as much as their need and lack of accountability when demonizing something just for the sake of furthering their own agenda of total and complete power over the population. Once again the video was great 👍.

Another thing worth noting is that .223 is illegal for more than varmint hunting in Canada and some states, as it's not powerful enough. That alone should be enough to make the lawmakers look dumb.

@@TATVCanada Yes! And one thing I would also love to see is exactly how many illegal handguns are used in shootings vs registered handguns. Seeing as how they banned the sale and transfer of handguns because of shootings in major cities like Toronto I can tell you that I have never seen ANY information from the government on how many people who own handguns have been in shootings. Something tells me that if you were to look youd find out that almost none of the guns used are registered to the person committing the crime let alone registered at all. And frankly if thats the case which is most certainly is, Trudeau should be thrown in jail for banning guns that are almost never used in shootings like the thousands of "assault weapons" (as if thats a real term that means anything at all) and for taking away what should be fundamental rights from law abiding citizens.

Thanks for making the video but you should have also pointed out the AR in AR-15 stands for “Armalite Rifle” and not “Assault Rifle” as most people mistakenly assume. The AR-15 is just a 1950s updated semiautomatic rifle design. If you doubt that then look up the AR-7 also made by Armalite. The US military version of the AR-15 uses an “M” prefix and is the M16 which you already noted. There’s also another military derivative, the M4, which is a short barrel M16.

  • @XxnosmanXx

One thing I hear a lot of misinformed people say is this. “ The AR15 can be easily converted to fully automatic “. This is simply not true. The firearm lower receiver is not machined to accept the auto sear. The bolt is neutered so it can’t function the same as the M16. The hammer doesn’t come with a hook latch for the auto sear to function. The safety switch will only function in semi automatic. There are many precautions put in place so people can’t easily convert the AR15. It doesn’t mean it’s impossible but you would have to be an experienced machinist with gunsmithing knowledge to be able to achieve this. Making your own parts because they don’t just sell them at the local gun shop in Canada.

    • @TATVCanada

Moreover its illegal to convert a semi-automatic firearm to fully automatic of course. Laws already exist to address this, further laws in a similar vein do not serve as a deterrent for anyone who's already breaking the existing ones.

So maybe the rules are now the ruling party can’t just now pass whatever bill/ laws they like without several meetings and debates like sane people. The sad thing is it’s always about the appearance. I think a good way to explain things is up until recently it was illegal to hunt with the.223 because it was deemed to weak to ethically hunt any medium sized game animal. The ar-15 hasn’t been a legal option to hunt with, you could only use them at the range. We are getting harder on rifles that we should be being less restrictive on.

@@TATVCanada I have lots of videos up and have been considering doing one on ar-15 rifles. The only reason why I don’t bother is even if it returned to restricted status it still would be illegal to hunt with. Our laws in Canada are moronic at best, people who know nothing about hunting or shooting make the laws.
People always think it’s super easy to convert ar-15’s to fully automatic, they also think we have huge capacity magazines in Canada. The mis information is staggering. We can have 5 round magazines that’s it that’s all. I have spoken to many people who don’t understand, many think the ar-15 has special bullets that blow up, that can penetrate steel plates etc… they are clueless how weak the cartridge actually is. It doesn’t matter what the rifle is, it’s the cartridge that matters.
Look what they have done with handguns, no one can buy or sell handguns. The government has pretty much stopped people from getting rpal now, that said it’s pointless to get one as what restricted firearm can you even shoot anymore. The liberals have basically destroyed the firearms community, the firearms industry in Canada. I worked for years to get a proper setup for three gun, I finally got a setup the same year they made everything illegal.

That's a very complicated question. Short answer; in Canada you have the right to use force to defend yourself if you reasonably believe your life, or someone else's life, to be danger or at risk of serious harm. Long answer; 'Home defense' is not considered a lawful reason to own a firearm in Canada, and our safe storage laws make it a challenge to justify using one in self defense as most prosecutors would argue if you had time to grab a firearm, you had time to escape. Historically the Crown has taken a very dim view of using a firearm to defend yourself and while its pretty difficult to find 12 jurors who'd be willing to convict you for it, that doesn't stop the crown from trying, at great expense and peril to you. There is a channel called 'Runkle of the Bailey" hosted by Ian Runkle, a notable Canadian defense attorney who specializes in firearms law. He has at least one very detailed video on the subject and I would encourage you to check out his channel as he is an expert on the law here.

Would you burn copies of this video to DVD and mail to every member on the SECU please. It should clear up some of the lack of knowledge that is paraded in front of the world on a weekly basis by taxpayer-funded politicians. Perhaps that will make them a little less embarrassing to watch.

While busting many myths about the AR-15 you, very ironically went on to reenforce a common myth about the AR-15. You claim they are chambered in .223, they are in fact not chambered in .223, they are chambered in the very similar 5.56x45mm NATO. Very similar but not the same. This error can cause chambering issues when trying to put a 5.56 in a .223… the head spacing is different. You can put a .223 in a 5.56 but you can’t put a 5.56 in a .223. That is why it is so important to make sure you state which round a weapon is actually chambered for. Some cheap knock off ARs are chambered in .223, but I have never seen one, I have only heard of them by rumour. You should correct your video accordingly because this mistake may seem minor but it’s very ironic you spend a video debunking many myths while also reenforcing one as you go.

You should probably rewatch it as you'll see I said the majority, and also noted I was summarizing things for simplicity sake. It's much easier to explain the contrast in sizes of cartridges to someone when using the same standard of measurement (caliber, in this case); ie 22 vs 223 VS 308. The average Canadian citizen does not care about and will not understand headspace or the distinction between mm and caliber in a rifle cartridge.

@@TATVCanada okay, fair point. But maybe a quick insert of clarification/FYI would be beneficial.

223 makes a good rodent gun used by a lot of trappers
